Video: Time for another righteous jeremiad from Wafa Sultan

posted at 11:55 am on June 2, 2008 by Allahpundit

Not unlike the new Indiana Jones movie: You know exactly what to expect so it’s all very familiar, but still so compulsively watchable that you can’t look away. If you don’t get the reference to Qaradawi, that would be this fine fellow — the famous “moderate” who issued a fatwa against her after she did it up “Last Crusade” style on Al Jazeera in March. What a great woman!

Hilts on June 2, 2008 at 11:58 AM

in that case Islam attacks me, and I am merely attacking back

Did she clear that with the State Dept.?

mred on June 2, 2008 at 12:15 PM

Well educated woman, speaks the truth. Off with her head.

Ha! No, if she had, Foggy Bottom would have her studying the Dred Scott decision so she could ‘understand’ the Palestinian problem.

Always powerful! Man is a product of language – positive or negative. Islam, as per the Qur’an, is only negative, which is why Islamic societies cannot progress.

Connie on June 2, 2008 at 12:24 PM

This woman should be listened to in the Islamic world. The truth will set them free.

Travis1 on June 2, 2008 at 12:34 PM

This lady has more cajones than most MALE so-called world leaders.

pilamaye on June 2, 2008 at 12:41 PM

There is nothing that she said that I would disagree with. It is powerful in their own language. Muslims love God and that is a good thing. They need to direct their love for God in a different direction. . . ANY different direction from Islam.

It is good to hear from her because she isn’t in a ‘rage’. You don’t have to be in a ‘rage’ or ‘hateful’ to criticize Islam rationally.

The strength of any civilization is with it’s women.
She uses words, not bomb vests

Kini on June 2, 2008 at 12:49 PM

She’s a heretic. The problem is, Islam still cuts off heretic’s heads. She is brave, but she is in danger. Why not just disappear into the US and stop being a Muslim, since she said that Islam is irredeemable?

JiangxiDad on June 2, 2008 at 1:00 PM

“A woman’s paradise is beneath the foot of a man”

(and isn’t the bottom of the foot some sort of massive insult?)
So now what is the problem with Islam?
I think I will try that line on my wife after dinner, and after I have washed the dishes.

Wow.

She’s an atheist who lives in America.

Sorry– didn’t know she was an atheist. Then what does she mean Islam is fighting her? I thought she meant as a muslim woman.

Guess I’m not getting something here. As a non-Muslim, why is she taking on Islam?

Maybe because it’s crappin’ on the drapes in the part of the world that she’s from? Or maybe it’s preparing to crap on the drapes where she lives at now? Either way, gutsy woman.

Anyone seen Ayaan Hirsi Ali lately?

Any ideology that subjugates women like Islam does is a threat to all women.

The look on the interviewer’s face was priceless. I think his mouth was open for the full 8 minutes. One thing to his credit, he didn’t cut her off and inject like so many of our “journalists” do.

(in part)
“Dr. Sultan said the world was not witnessing a clash of religions or cultures, but a battle between modernity and barbarism, a battle that the forces of violent, reactionary Islam are destined to lose.

In response, clerics throughout the Muslim world have condemned her, and her telephone answering machine has filled with dark threats. But Islamic reformers have praised her for saying out loud, in Arabic and on the most widely seen television network in the Arab world, what few Muslims dare to say even in private.

“I believe our people are hostages to our own beliefs and teachings,” she said in an interview this week in her home in a Los Angeles suburb.

Dr. Sultan, who is 47, wears a prim sweater and skirt, with fleece-lined slippers and heavy stockings. Her eyes and hair are jet black and her modest manner belies her intense words: “Knowledge has released me from this backward thinking. Somebody has to help free the Muslim people from these wrong beliefs.”

Perhaps her most provocative words on Al Jazeera were those comparing how the Jews and Muslims have reacted to adversity. Speaking of the Holocaust, she said, “The Jews have come from the tragedy and forced the world to respect them, with their knowledge, not with their terror; with their work, not with their crying and yelling.”

She went on, “We have not seen a single Jew blow himself up in a German restaurant. We have not seen a single Jew destroy a church. We have not seen a single Jew protest by killing people.”

She concluded, “Only the Muslims defend their beliefs by burning down churches, killing people and destroying embassies. This path will not yield any results. The Muslims must ask themselves what they can do for humankind, before they demand that humankind respect them.”"

God Bless this woman. IMO, the world Islam needs millions more like her!

She was born and raised in Syria as an Alawi, which is a Muslim sect of the moderate Shi’ite persuasion…

She is one brave woman who knows the Islamic text well and who has suffered herself in a personal way from the hands of Islamist Extremists in Syria. She is an atheist because if this experience.

It is her belief that Islam will lose the battle between modernity and barbarism. To ask why she has chosen to take on Islam instead of just leading a simple life in California is a good question. Naturally not many people are as courageous as she and have as strong of a moral compass to bring them to risk their lives so boldly for the cause of the betterment of the world.

Probably one of the bravest human beings on the planet. She inspires me to be less fearful in my own speech. Thank you Wafa Sultan.

pleaseandthankyou on June 2, 2008 at 6:43 PM

The interviewer opposite her looked very uncomfortable. Like he was suddenly in a target-rich environment.

Wafa Sultan has my vote as bravest woman alive.

Urban Infidel on June 2, 2008 at 7:20 PM

Both her AND Ayaan Hirsi Ali…brave to the core.

rtsidedragon on June 3, 2008 at 12:21 AM

Start with a pedophile warlord and things go downhill pretty easily.

Wafa should be their sultan.

profitsbeard on June 3, 2008 at 8:52 AM

I agreed with everything, save her feelings on Palestine. While I don’t endorse suffering, I, under no circumstances, endorse giving palestinians even a single cubic millimeter of Israeli land. The land was theirs, the land is theirs, and the land will always be theirs. If the so-called “palestinians” don’t like it, they can move to Egypt.
