Video: Dad who spots gang brand on daughter does what must be done
posted at 2:20 pm on June 2, 2008 by Allahpundit
The latest in a continuing series of authority figures earning effusive praise for showing tough love to budding teenage miscreants. This one’s dicier than what we’re accustomed to, not only because of the unusual “toughness” of the love but because as far as I can tell there’s no evidence that it was an actual gang marking as opposed to just dumb kids giving themselves dumb amateur tattoos.
In that sense, it’s more like a taser video — you understand the cop’s impulse, but dude. Click the image to watch.

Oh,I have a daughter,and applying a red hot knife
to her leg, maybe its just me,but kinda sounds
a bit monsterous,Umm,laser surgery would be the
right avenue for removal, unless you live in the
mountains and have a barbaric,3rd century mentality!

If only I’d had a father that cared for me like that.

LOVE IT!!! It seems like a harsh punishment until you consider what the father was attempting to protect his daughter from. Once the gangs pull someone in, their lives are instantly and completely off track. If more parents took steps like this there wouldn’t be a gang problem.

The father did not “go after” his daughter. He removed the offending mark in a way that illustrates how serious he was.
Was it over the top? Heck yeah.
Was it necessary? Not sure. We can never predict the outcome if he hadn’t.
However, the daughter seemed honest and adamant that this was the first time he has ever done anything like this. There presumably is no prior history of abuse, so I wouldn’t be so quick to judge the father.
I probably wouldn’t have gone to the extremes he had, but I don’t condemn him for the action. He only applied the knife to the area she had the tattoo, not anywhere else.

Next thing you know they’ll prohibit cattle branding in Texas, too.
Seriously, the father needs his head examined. Something’s loco.

Just to get something straight here – the father did NOT set out to torture his daughter by burning her, he over-reacted in trying to quickly remove the offending mark before it was too late.
Cruel? Yes! Necessary? No! Effective? Yes! (in this particular case).
Different strokes for different folks.

I beat her because I love her. . . .

P.S. What kind of husband is this guy teaching his daughter to expect?

Screw that. I’m with the pop. Personally, I’d ask a doctor to remove it, but he was on the right track.
Nip it in the bud. With a hammer or a flamethrower if necessary.
