Shocker: Pfleger hates America, too! Update: The connecting thread

How many coincidences can people buy about Barack Obama’s circle of friends? First we have Jeremiah Wright sermonizing that God should “damn America”. Next, we find out that Obama worked with and for William Ayers, the unrepentant domestic terrorist, who believes along with his wife Bernadine Dohrn that America is a “monster”. Now another member of his Chicago circle. Father Michael Pfleger, thinks that “America is the greatest sin against God”:

Let’s see Bernadine Dohrn from last November once again:

And here’s Ayers in 2001, doing the Old Glory Boogie:

And the original Jeremiah Wright version:

Having one “crazy uncle”, as Obama noted in March, might be enough to excuse anti-American ravings, even if that “crazy uncle” was the pastor of the church to which Obama belonged for over 20 years. But the four people with which Obama chose to associate in Chicago all have the same diagnosis: anti-Americanism. For all of them, America is the greatest evil in the world, and for Dohrn and Ayers, an enemy to be destroyed. Four data points stops being a coincidence and starts being a pattern.

Pfleger’s latest rant also shows that Trinity United hasn’t gotten a bad rap. Listen to this audience cheer Pfleger when he calls America the “greatest sin against God”. They completely buy into that assessment, which belies any rationalization Obama gives for remaining a member of this church for most of his adult life. He’s backing away from TUCC at warp speed now, but Obama cannot escape the years that he associated himself enthusiastically with America-haters of the most vicious stripe.

And how closely did Obama and Pfleger get? ABC’s Jake Tapper reports:

But Obama’s relationship with Pfleger — who is the priest at a different, Catholic, church — spans decades.

In September, the Obama campaign brought Pfleger to Iowa to host one of several interfaith forums for the campaign. Pfleger has given money to Obama’s campaigns and Obama as a state legislator directed at least $225,000 towards social programs at St. Sabina’s, according to the Chicago Tribune. Pfleger appears to have been scrubbed from the Obama campaign’s page that features the testimony of faith leaders, but you can see the cached version HERE.

Obama liked Pfleger enough to make him part of his presidential campaign, and to put hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars in his pocket to fund this kind of America-hating rhetoric. That says volumes about Obama’s own radicalism, if people bother to listen.

Update: And let’s not forget the rhetoric that brought Obama into the arms of Wright and later Pfleger. In his own book, Dreams from My Father, he acknowledges the attraction of the radical demagoguery that Wright spewed then and Pfleger spews now:

“It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks’ greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere … That’s the world! On which hope sits!”– Barack Obama, “Dreams from my Father,” 1995.

This is all a distraction!

You nailed it on the head, Ed. You’ve taken the sheep’s clothing off the wolf, to find the hidden agenda of the Democrat party. They want the “top spot” to kill off America, which they hate, and replace it with their socialist (fascist?) utopia.

The media won’t help communicate this. We must!

stonemeister on June 2, 2008 at 7:52 AM

And the hit’s just keep on comin’.

Dash on June 2, 2008 at 7:57 AM

I am fearful that so many people who are more in to their feeeelings than their brains will ignore all this and vote for Obama because they want “change” or they think he’s “such a nice young man”. I know a woman who is solidly conservative but she refuses to think bad of Jimmy Carter since he is “such a good Christian man”.

Sigh.

Ellen on June 2, 2008 at 8:03 AM

I question the whining.

Four data points stops being a coincidence and starts being a pattern.

Four data points? I count five; ya gotta include Michelle Obama in that pattern.

On the other hand, maybe Tony Rezko is pro-American. After all, America is a place where an immigrant can make something of himself.

NeighborhoodCatLady on June 2, 2008 at 8:06 AM

Also, I’d like to ask Pfleiger why he seems to think that only America is racist? The Arabs, whom Farrakhan loves so much STILL practice slavery and guess who they are enslaving? The Europeans, who are oh-so sophisticated, have attitudes toward Gypsies that would horrify most Americans.

Ellen on June 2, 2008 at 8:08 AM

First, I will apologize for going off-topic with this, but it generally fits within a “hate America” theme. I have an e-mail from a General that I want to make sure is accurate. He should know better than to say this publicly, but here’s his quote:

“Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn’t follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

“As I’ve said about the flag pin, I don’t want to be perceived as taking sides,” Obama said. “There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song ‘I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing.’ If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.”

“WHAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our next president. I, for once, am speechless.”

Did Senator Obama really say this? I’ve not heard this quote, though I’m up to speed on the flag pin brouhaha.

And Pfleger’s a tool. As a Catholic, I know there are procedures to remove a preist. As an American, I know there are tax code issues. Where’s the IRS in this?

Bigurn on June 2, 2008 at 8:09 AM

I think this is a very important observation. At the very least, Senator Obama is comfortable being around these people. That makes me uncomfortable with him.

Jill1066 on June 2, 2008 at 8:12 AM

Pfleger is nothing more than an “agitator”. Stirring up people by telling them everything that happens to them is whitey’s fault, as well as the “white” government. Same thing Obama did when he was a Chicago “community organizer”. Same thing the pseudo-preacher Wright did. Foment hate and discontent and wait. Classic communist subversion …

darwin on June 2, 2008 at 8:12 AM

Obama wants CHANGE in America. That’s why he’s running. He said so himself.
Sad thing is, all of his followers agree with him. They don’t much like America. America is the reason for their troubles.
I’d like to take America away from them for a time and show them how good they’ve got it.

Somebody, please tell me that people like this are in the minority and that Obama will never be elected.

Scary how Obama and company make me think better of the Clintons. whoa.

First, I am SOOO glad that we have the Captain here at HA. ALWAYS excellent posts!

I am amazed that the dems are so hell bent on sending this guy out as their champion. They typically like to keep their true motivations and ideology hidden from view. They do not have that option with Obama or his wife. Nearly every day, Obama disavows himself from something one or more of his “acquaintances” says. As MM said last week, everything is a “distraction” to Obama these days.

It has been obvious for MANY years that the dems were going farther and farther left, but they have kept it hidden from the general public. me thinks that Obama is going to call some chickens home to roost in the general. That is if Johnny decides to point this stuff out. To date, he has remained “above” that sort of thing.

Michael Pfleger has been an absolute pain in the a__ here is Chicago for as long as I can remember. He is something of a Doonesbury cartoon character that has come to life. He says he is for the poor and the underprivileged, but he also loves to see those cameras and microphones just as much as our other illustrious Windy City Windbag, Jesse Jetstream Jackson.

Problem is that in the past the Archdiocese of Chicago has been somewhat reluctant to offer the less-than-Good Father Pfleger a nice piping hot cup of SHUT THE HELL UP, but it looks like over the weekend, Cardinal Francis George finally called Pfleger on the carpet, and now we see Pfleger plastered on the front pages of the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times this morning saying he is oh so sorry for the terrible nasty things he said and that he will be oh so good from now on and blah-blah-blah.

That is until the next time some news agency shoves a camera and microphone into his face and gives him another new platform to rant and rave from.

And their last nominee, John Kerry, collaborated with an enemy we were at war with and headed a group that voted on assassinating US Senators. It is literally the worst people in the US who rise to prominence in the Democrat Party. People who should have been publicly executed decades ago for the health of the nation.

Dead on! This particular campaign has opened a lot - and I mean a lot - of eyes among traditional Democrats here in Metro Boston. They have come to realize what Reagan told them in the 80s when he famously said, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The party left me.” The number of people who fully intend to pull the lever for McCain is actually astounding. I just wonder if the damage is temporary (limited to this campaign) or permanent.

TheBigOldDog on June 2, 2008 at 8:53 AM

So this is why Hillary keeps going on: The Obamassiah is so very vulnerable with the anti-Americanism. The lower class whites aren’t going to vote for him not because he’s black but because he’s too radical and too invested in Blame America First.

By the way, anyone else see that the Hildabeest keeps racking up wins way after it became clear that The Obamassiah has essentially clinched the nomination?

Tee hee.

Well stated. Since the left (Clinton’s & Soros) created the moveon.org site, the Democrats have been completely taken over by the radical elements of their party. That site paved the way for other “like sites” where the echo chamber has reached feverish levels of extreme radical chatter. Pretty amazing though, a Clinton creation (in part) helped sink the Clinton’s.

Good info - thanks. I didn’t realize that the Jewish Axelrod was so enamored with Catholicism. Must have something to do with the fact that St. Sabina’s (like Trinity United)is a temple of Marxism.

Buy Danish on June 2, 2008 at 9:11 AM

From the St. Sabina’s website:

As the largest African-American Catholic Church and school in the Chicago Archdiocese, St. Sabina pursues its mission of faith and justice with no operating support from the Chicago Archdiocese. While this is a remarkable accomplishment for a Church in any community, it is a credit to the Faith of the parishioners who count on St. Sabina to renew them spiritually and educationally.

Yep, that’s what it’s all about. Teaching Marxism 101 (with an afro-centric tilt) under the guise of religion, and your tax dollars are supporting this hate America, hate Whitey indoctrination program.

Jill1066 on June 2, 2008 at 8:12 AM

You’ve hit the nail on the head. Obama has hung out with these types of people for so long that their words and behavior appears normal and mainstream to him. This is why he didn’t remove himself from Trinity before he became a candidate. He thought Trinity, Wright, Ffleger, etc. exemplified the norm (or should). This is also why he has shown precisely the opposite of what he claims to bring to the table (unity). There can be no unity, no bi-partisanship when a candidate has spent his entire adult life this far left of centrist America. That is where his mindset resides and God forbid he should bring more of these nasty skeletons in his closet into the White House with him.

How many coincidences can people buy about Barack Obama’s circle of friends?

A few months ago I would have estimated about three, tops. Now it’s looking more like an unlimited number.

I’m starting to get the impression that we’re witnessing a kind of mass delusion re Obama, fueled by his media sycophants, social fashion and vague dissatisfaction with the status quo.

It’s like the tech-stock or subprime mortgage or global warming bubbles in a way, all the elite self-anointed experts pushing the bandwagon while a few level-headed outcasts peep “wait, this makes no actual sense” from the sidelines.

Will the bubble burst before November? I hope so, for all our sakes.

People forget that there really were a lot more Father Pfleger’s in the public spotlight during the Vietnam era, 35 and 40 years ago, when the Catholic Church’s ‘revolution theology” really came into flower. It was the edict by Pope John Paul II telling priests to get out of politics combined with his negativity towards those involved in the left-wing “revolution” movement that forced many of those followers either to mute their beliefs or in some cases leave the church.

Pfleger was able to survive both because the area of Chicago he was in was still fertile grounds for this type of theology, and the fact that he basically confined his activities to Chicago, which allowed him to maintain a low enough profile to keep his sermons out of the national spotlight. Once his association with Obama became known that game was over, but apparently, pretending to be black and delivering anti-U.S. and anti-white diatribes are like crack to the Father, since he had to have known after the Wright videos that anything said from the pulpit at Trinity was going to be used against Obama (and get wider media play as long as Hillary was still in the race and still had a few key media supporters to keep the story from being repressed).

As a Chicagoan, what do you know about Alex Giannoulias, one of the fund raisers for St. Sabinas, whom Obama endorsed and in turn received contributions to his presidential campaign?

When Barry was asked about Alexi’s nefarious connections to organized crime, his response was vintage Obama:

Thursday, April 16, 2006

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama said Wednesday he is concerned by revelations that the bank owned by Illinois Democratic treasurer nominee Alexi Giannoulias’ family gave loans to a Chicago crime figure and said the candidate owes him and the public a full accounting.
“I’m going to take a look at what’s been going on and I’m going to ask Alexi directly what is happening,” said Obama, an early and enthusiastic backer of the first-time candidate, after a town hall meeting at York High School in Elmhurst.
“I think it is absolutely appropriate for [Giannoulias] to have to explain what exactly the nature of the relationship was, how aware the bank was of some of the illegal activities that this gentleman had engaged in in the past,” he said. “I think that is something that, as his campaign goes forward, he’s got to explain to voters.” […]
“It sounds like they hadn’t fully thought that through,” Obama said. “My recommendation to him will be that he needs to have a thorough press conference in which all of this gets completely aired and all of these questions have to be answered. I think that’s what any elected official owes to the voters.”

If there is one chance in a 1000 that Obama and Michelle could possibly spend 20 years in this hateful environment and believe just one bit of this racist and hate mongering garbage, then the risk of his presidency is not warranted.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think that Jake Tapper may be my favorite reporter at this moment.

its vintage duh on June 2, 2008 at 11:22 AM

Me too. It’s a weird thing these reporters face, I know a little about it from my time at media organizations, they’ve got pressure from both sides.

There’s always the motivation for scoops, getting there first, reporting what others can’t or won’t. But there’s also the massive institutional office politics, keep-your-job pressure of conforming with the ideological atmosphere of the paycheck-provider’s milieu, which often wins on the individual reporter level.

Jake Tapper is making baby steps into John Stossel contrarian territory, and good for him. Maybe the fact that Stossel’s still on the air at ABC helps him. Or, maybe, he’s actually a decent and honest reporter. That’d be a breath of fresh air. Newsworthy in and of itself.

I have a question for our Catholic members here - since when are Priests allowed to adopt children? Is this a common practice?

I never heard of such a thing.

AprilOrit on June 2, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Obama is a monumental mess.
Over his formative years, look at his associations and
the all this vitriol. How could he not absorb it?
This guy is not as smart as he thinks he is.

Whether conscience or not, this man is truly the Manchurian Candidate and rather dangerous, if given anymore power.

jimmer on June 2, 2008 at 12:13 PM

you can take the Obama out of the church, but you can’t take the church out of the Obama

TheCulturalist on June 2, 2008 at 12:15 PM

I had a big argument with my Obama-supporting husband yesterday about all of this. He comes from a New England working class Catholic family, and believe me, they know all about this stuff. He was floored when his mother called him to tell him she would never vote for Obama because of his going to this church for 20 years. This is a family that still has a picture of JFK on the wall at home and hasn’t voted for a Republican since Eisenhower.

The Catholic grapevine works fast. If Obama is the nominee this is going to KILL him in the white working-class Catholic areas of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New England.

Alas, the only thing that may expedite Pfleger’s removal is if the parishioners at his church cut off the collection plate. Money talks.

JetBoy on June 2, 2008 at 9:52 AM

You know that’s not going to happen. Pfleger is preaching what they want to hear. The more they are happy with his message the greater the contributions to the church.

abcurtis on June 2, 2008 at 12:25 PM

Does Phlegm, er, Pfleger know that he is white?

Just curious since he is doing his best black guy voice.

The Opinionator on June 2, 2008 at 12:27 PM

I wonder how many children this Pfleger pedophile has violated.

Yeah, sadly…you’re both right. But if Pfleger were a priest in my parish, he wouldn’t last.

AprilOrit on June 2, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Years ago, we had a priest in our parish who was married with kids. But he was a convert from Episcopal…and one of only 7 married Catholic priests in the world at the time. I think what you do prior to becoming a Catholic priest is one thing, but it does take Papal approval.

JetBoy on June 2, 2008 at 12:44 PM

AprilOrit on June 2, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Oh yeah, to add…I guess when Pfleger adopted his first of two, the Cardinal threatened to fire him. But he went ahead. It’s unconventional to say the least. But he got away with it. Even more amazing, he defied the Church and adopted a second.

JetBoy on June 2, 2008 at 1:00 PM

Why do I get the feeling that the RNC has much more on this (Obama’s questionable relationships), and other associations that they are holding back until after the nominations?
Being involved with these guys, being involved in Chicago politics, I just get the feeling the RNC is sitting on some “stuff”.

right2bright on June 2, 2008 at 1:02 PM

FWIW, I think Fr. Pfleger meant to say that “racism is the greatest sin against God”. I’m basing that on what he said right after it. He defines why racism is, in his opinion, the worst sin. It just doesn’t make much sense with “America” in there. It appears as though he doesn’t even realize that he said “America” instead of “racism”. Watch it again with this in mind, and see if you don’t agree.

I don’t like defending Pfleger - I’m just commenting on what I see, and trying to interpret what was meant by the statement. I think it is a just a terrible gaffe, not an honest hatred of America. I think he just got caught up in his own rhetoric during the sermon (which, for this Catholic, is a mockery of what I expect from the homily).

connertown on June 2, 2008 at 1:10 PM

America is the greatest sin against God - Father Michael Pfleger

The Greatest sin according to Christ:
Matthew 12:31
31 Therefore, I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit 22 will not be forgiven.

Christ to the Pharisees

Matthew 12:34-37
You brood of vipers, how can you say good things when you are evil? For from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks.
35
A good person brings forth good out of a store of goodness, but an evil person brings forth evil out of a store of evil.
36
25 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will render an account for every careless word they speak.
37
By your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned

He who lives by hatred has abandoned Christ. A ship without an anchor may drift into dangerous seas

entagor on June 2, 2008 at 1:11 PM

sorry for the numbers above. I picked up footnotes

Both Wright and Pfleger feed on hatred not against sin but against sinner.

This was Christ’s warning over and over. In these passages Christ went on to mention Nineveh, a nation God loved despite the sinfulness.

If these guys would read the whole Book, and not just the good parts, they would be better served

Yes, major mistake to open the doors of a “typical Black church”. I remember when the Rev Wright thing first popped up. The news was put out that it was a mostly White church. I even remember seeing pictures of the congregation. Guess that didn’t last long. Not after the vids started showing up on youtube.

Using the cover of the church has always been a staple of the Dem’s and was used to swing their votes from the Rep to the Dem party in the 60’s. Since then, it has also served as a pathway to push Liberation Theology which is just another way to say Marxism. That works fine within the confines of the Dem party and serves to keep Blacks on the plantation.

They have been doing it for so long, that they didn’t think about what would happen when a Black candidate goes national. It’s all well and fine for a super left socialist Black candidate to use that part of their machine to win local elections, but it isn’t what they needed to win the National.

Thing is, people like Wright, Pfleger, Jackson, Sharpton, Geraldo, et al, don’t really want Obama to win. Takes away their message. Hits them where it hurts. It’s like winning the war on drugs, poverty, etc. Never will actually happen because there are too many people who benefit from maintaining the status quo. Talk about a 100 yrs war…

Too late. As they say, Ya’ll made your bed, now you will have to sleep in it.

TheCulturalist on June 2, 2008 at 1:28 PM

But, but, but what about Hagee???? Come on, it’s the same thing right? You people can’t attack Obama over this without doing the same thing with McCain over Hagee’s endorsement. It’s EXACTLY the same thing.

TheCulturalist on June 2, 2008 at 9:27 AM

Notice how no one responded to your post…that is how far out in left field it was.
Here is two questions for you…what church (and the pastors name) in the past 15 years has McCain been a member of?
And in the past 15 years what church (and pastors name) has Obama been a member of.

the only thing these ‘liberal’ christians hate more than america is real christians.

right4life on June 2, 2008 at 11:23 AM

You said it. They are smug in thinking that because they adorn their walls with humanitarian awards that they are rendered innocent. They are indeed “pulpiteers” as Rev. Moss said.

What disturbs me the most is the ease with which these hucksters intertwine themselves in “interfaith” activities. What is that, exactly? It proves they have no core, no foundation of biblical understanding and agreement of what God’s word is and says. They are preaching POLITICIANS– first and foremost. They thrive on popularity. Christ nailed them for the brood of vipers they really are.

Father Pfleger will not be removed because the Vatican’s priorities are political. I love you Ed, and I don’t want to “go there” in your blog, but it’s the core problem with this priest, and why he is still in his parish (indeed, his tenure was extended!).

The Vatican is no place for a follower of the original gospel. Its bloody history makes the terrorists of today look like amateurs. Research it for yourself… well over 1200 years of religious suppression and political terror, in the name of Christ and St Peter.

leftnomore on June 2, 2008 at 2:47 PM

leftnomore on June 2, 2008 at 2:15 PM

Yes, they can and do.

It’s the same as the brainwashing that is used in Middle East schools and homes to “teach” generation after generation that Isreal doesn’t exist and America is the Great Satan.

The children hear it at the dinner table, they hear it at school, they hear it in their church. What else whould they believe? They are also taught that anyone saying otherwise is to be shunned and viewed as a form of evil.
