Chelsea: Of course Mom wants more gun control!

Uh-oh. Chelsea Clinton lets the cat out of the bag, and in Montana of all places. During a Q&A with supporters in Billings, Chelsea said that the nation “need[s] to do more with gun control”. Did she notice the gun racks on the trucks while traveling through Big Sky Country?

During a question and answer session before seniors and other supporters at the Yellowstone County Council on Aging Office Friday morning, Chelsea said, “We also need to do more with gun control. And my mom supports- naturally what she supported in New York. Which is: we have different gun control laws in New York City than we do in upstate New York. I think a lot of people think of New York City as just being New York, but actually the majority of New York State, not only land mass wise, but also people wise, lives outside New York City- and we have very different gun control laws in New York City as what we do in upstate New York.” …

The younger Clinton made her remarks in a response to a question from Yellowstone County Commissioner Bill Kennedy (D), who asked her what efforts could be made to get more cops on the street.

Dave at Political Machine notes that Hillary has adapted her rhetoric on gun control to suit her political ambitions at the time. When first campaigning for her Senate seat in 2000, she adopted Chuck Schumer’s enthusiasm for gun control. In this campaign, she has tried to distance herself from it, using the Rudy Giuliani construct that local government somehow trumps the Constitution on the 2nd Amendment.

One of the things that most importantly has to be remembered is that when asked about Second Amendment, often you’ll hear candidates start talking about, well, I’m a hunter. And they immediately go into telling about the last time they went hunting, even if it was 50 years ago. And that’s fine. I’m always happy to hear it. But when a person, when asked about the Second Amendment, begins to tell me about his or her hunting license, the first thing they just told me is they have not a clue; they do not understand the essence of the Second Amendment.

It’s their way of trying to get more gun control by starting in big cities (since you don’t hunt there) but at the same time trying to keep from losing the pro-2nd Amendment bitter gun-toting, Bible-clinging people in “Jesusland”.

She needs those votes in order to make the best case she can to the Super Delegates.

But let me describe what I believe the Second Amendment is and why it’s important.

First of all, it protects our families. We have a constitutional right granted to us, in the wisdom of our forefathers, to protect our families, to protect them from criminals, to protect them from whatever might harm them. And it is as much of a constitutional right as it is the right to speak out against our government.

And let me be very clear: I do not believe the Second Amendment has any geographical boundaries. It does not apply differently on the East Coast than it does in the South.

There should be no sense in which people believe that there can be a different set of gun laws that somehow control the Second Amendment in urban areas than in rural areas. If that were the case, the Founding Fathers would have put some type of restrictive language in the Second Amendment, which they did not. That’s why I support the Castle Doctrine and believe that it ought to reign true, where people have a right to protect themselves, and that they shouldn’t have to prove that they were protecting themselves when in fact they were defending their own property and their own families.

Perhaps. I would have thought so all along, her parents keeping her under wraps forever while she “blossomed”. But oddly, the Bush twins adore her and dream to emulate Chelsea Clinton who hones personal skills and charms and whom the press seem to adore. With such praise, I guess Jenna is doing her part from Austin to keep it weird. Bushs aside, America loves an icon. And of her generation, Chelsea will likely be the leader of the pack. Look out for that day; she will be indomitable. She is crafting her alliances already.

Seriously, darling Chelsea has always been given a pass in a way that the Bush girls were denied. We were lectured that Chelsea got into Stanford on her academic merit while Barbara and Jenna Bush were academic lightweights who would be attending community college were it not for familial connections. If Chelsea marries, it will be reported as if a fairytale instead of the way they kept mentioning that Jenna Bush’s husband worked for Karl Rove. There simply is a double standard and there always will be unless or until Chelsea runs for office- then the gloves come off. I guess we should just be happy that Chelsea seems to be far more complete as a human being than Amy Carter.

That would fit right in with Clinton’s triangulation. The people in the big cities want tight gun control, the people in the country dont. So Hillary, by taking the middle ground, can make everybody happy by being for tight control when she speaks in the city and for loose control when she’s in the country. Chelsea just got confused as to where she was.
It’s like an old story I heard years ago: When asked where he stood on a particular issue, the politician answered – “Half of my friends are for it, and half of my friends are against it. I stand with my friends.”
Hillary is standing with her friends.

I spent most of my life working with highly educated people – engineers, physicists and scientists. Most of them, not all but most, were dumber than a box of rocks. They could tell you how high was up or give you a mathematical formula to cut down a 12 inch tree with a six inch saw, but everyday realities were totally foreign to them. One of the scientists would forget to eat, and pass out in the lab. Another would forget to come home and his wife could call him and remind him. Another lived in his office and about once a year the Navy corpsmen had to come and get him, take him to the hospital and have him scrubbed up and shot full of vitamins and antibiotics. But he was a genius if you could get close enough to him to talk to him. So a great education doesnt necessarily make you smart, just well educated.

How conveeeenient, no follow up questions for the princess who looks like Webb Hubbel. I guess they learned their lesson from the other two debacles.
We should cut Chelsea some slack; maybe she doesn’t know what a gun rack looks like.
One question: if hunters can’t use rifles, then what are they to use, a spear?

Thanks, Maxx. I’ve posted the links to their Constitution and their Game Plan several times, but I had never posted the entire Preamble to their Constitution before. I was starting to think that maybe I’ve been posting that too much, but comments such as yours make it clear that the message still needs to be delivered. Not every Democrat is a Communist (although a lot are…some notable exceptions are Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman, but look how hated they are by other Democrats Democratic Socialists!), and not every Communist is a Democrat (I personally believe that McCain is a Republican example…his leadership of the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill is 100% in line with the goals of the Communist Party USA).

In my experience, too many people suffer from an unreasonable fear of guns (or weapons in general).

I’m glad y’all cleared that up. Most of us here are pretty much on the same page when it comes to the 2nd amendment. It is protection of our right to defend ourselves against any evil, including a tyrannical government that steps outside the limits imposed on it by the Constitution.

I myself do not even own a gun. But my wife does, and she is an excellent shot. She had to drive through the Rodney King riots in LA, and immediately thereafter went through the process to purchase a Ruger. She then got an off-duty FBI agent to train her how to shoot. I’ve seen a sample paper target that she shot at, and every one of her bullet holes is either in the center of the forehead, or center of the heart.

And she has hollow-tip ammo.

I.E., don’t mess with her. She is the nicest person you could ever meet, but don’t mess with her.

Clearly, the Amendments to the Constitution were put into place to protect individuals from government intrusion. Yet, left wing liberal congress critters and judges want to instill their will, contrary thereof, upon us. I’ve always been amazed at how clear and simple wording was used by the framers, however, lawmakers/judges have been able to con-volute, and write thousands of pages to contradict the Constitution.

I’d still like to see a Constitutional Amendment, whereby in the general election, Americans could vote through the initiative process, namely to recall elected and appointed officials…including federal judges.

You want a real life example?
It worked for this unarmed woman when she was abducted by an armed killer who had already murdered other armed people.

The reason this guy surrendered was that the woman witnessed to him about Jesus Christ and read the Bible to him. If, on the other hand, she had tried to pull a gun on him, she could easily have ended up as dead as the armed sheriff’s deputy he shot earlier that day.

“You’re here in my apartment for some reason,” she told him, saying he might be destined to be caught and to spread the word of God to fellow prisoners. She also read the Bible to Nichols.

“He told me I was his angel, sent from God, and that I was his sister and he was my brother in Christ,” said Smith.

He eventually put down the guns police say he took when he overwhelmed sheriff’s deputies, putting them on the floor and later under a bed.

…but I do prefer to fight battles spiritually rather than physically. And it really does work. I’ve been with friends eating and talking (not drinking alcohol) with friends at a local ale house late at night.
