Video: O’Reilly flips out over NBC, MSNBC, Russert, pretty much everyone

The screamfest with Geraldo shall forever be the flipout against which all O’R flipouts are measured, and this one ain’t that. But it’s still pretty righteous, particularly Bill’s point near the end — echoed here by Chris Wallace — that Fox would never be allowed to get away with the sort of atomic partisan rants our pal Olbermann is routinely celebrated for by the nutroots and the halfwit press. That’s yet another component of Olbypocrisy that I neglected to mention the other night. How many “worst person in the world” segments haranguing Fox for bias, I wonder, have been immediately followed by a 17-minute “special comment” calling George Bush a Nazi? Which only makes Bernie Goldberg’s bizarre assertion near the end here that if it isn’t careful MSNBC’s going to cross the line “at some point.” At some point?
That said, I don’t see why Goldberg (or Wallace) thinks this is all going to come back and bite MSNBC in the ass. They give the left what it wants, and one nice thing you can say for Olby hosting election night coverage is that his bias is so well known that you’re able to watch with that in mind and discount accordingly. There’s no fear of some “impartial” newscaster, left or right, trying to tilt the coverage on the sly and then claiming the mantle of objectivity to call it fact. WYSIWYG.

Yeah, I watched Bill going berserk and wondered if he was being egged on in his ear piece. He seemed to want to flip out a little too easily. That said, he is right however.

*sigh*
A point overbeaten by Blowhard O’Reilly. The Boss could have said it better, and not looked like just some psychotic egomaniac.
MadisonConservative on May 30, 2008 at 10:38 AM
I don’t enjoy watching O’Reilly rant and rave, because he doesn’t do it as well as Rush, Savage, or the Great One, who I love to hear go-off, even if Savage gets bad service at a restaurant. But please don’t tone down Keithy until AFTER election night, because (God willing things go as I think they will) I will be tuned into PMS-NBC that night (at least until they go dark and/or start running a prison-reality show because they just can’t continue….)
Marcus on May 30, 2008 at 10:42 AM
I rarely watch O’Rielly anymore unless there is a particular guest I want to see. ie, “The Boss”. Bill jus “bloviates” and “opines” too much. : )
kcd on May 30, 2008 at 10:42 AM
By the way, when is FOX going to give The Boss her own show?!! She could easily do a much better job than O’Reilly and and damn mile better than Jerry Rivers.
kcd on May 30, 2008 at 10:45 AM
While MSNBC may be one of the most egregious examples of this, you pretty much could have said the same for any MSM outlet. I feel this way about the NY Times, so I don’t listen to anything they say. Similarly, I’ve never seen MSNBC.
JiangxiDad on May 30, 2008 at 10:46 AM
Episodes like this just give his detractors more ammunition. Why even mention MSNBC any more? OK, we get it, you have much higher ratings than them. Now calm down and let Goldberg speak.
JammieWearingFool on May 30, 2008 at 10:46 AM
You got the crucial point – we KNOW where Olby is coming from and can gauge accordingly. There’s no non-objective objectivity.
MarkJudge on May 30, 2008 at 10:46 AM
MSDNC is so much in the tank for the Dems it’s laughable.
Two nights ago the pre-empted regularly scheduled programming at 11:00 and gave David Gregory and extra hour on the air to giggle with delight about the turncoat McClelland.
This was following four hours of Matthews, Gregory earlier in the evening, Abrams and Olberdunce going full bore on the McClelland expose of evil Bush leading up to the 11 o’clock hour. No, but that wasn’t enough, the sharks smelled blood in the water. Gregory and his liberal journalist hack panel spent the entire hour praising McClelland, bashing the Bush administration and telling their viewers, “Aha, we told you so!”
If MSDNC is a “cable news channel”, then I’m a nuclear physicist.

Methinks B.O. doth protest too much. While he’s right about NBC (the National Bolshevik Cooperative), he spends way too much time sniping at them (and Franken, and GE, et al) and it looks like he’s deflecting half the time. His skeletons are well known to several in the industry, and it’s just a matter of time before his chapter in the eternal book of “Oh How The Might Have Fallen” will be written. We can only hope that Obama love-stalker Keith O. will have fallen himself by then and won’t be around to revel, because that will surely be pecksniffian.

Wow. O’Reilly “fliped out” while talking about media bias in the mainstream media, and how they are all getting away with murder, and calling him and Fox News biased.
It’s completely understandable. O’Reilly has had to take a lot of crap over the years, and when he gets dumped on from the left – it’s understandable. When he gets dumped on by some on the right, it’s not. I understand why he gets flack from idiots on the left. They can’t know any better, they just think that way. As for the idiots on the right, I’m not so sure. They should know better.

To be truly honest Russert needs to conduct McClellan’s “Meet the Press” session like a job interview, trying to uncover whether he is really a Republican apostate or just currying favor to be accepted by the media establishment. If he passes the test I see no reason why he shouldn’t join the ranks of Stephie, Moyers and… uh… Russert himself and be given a regular network gig.

The more Olby is protested the more popular he becomes. MSNBC is a carefully crafted marketing strategy to serve the hard left’s vision of fox, creating their own counter programming. After all, this is GE and they don’t just evolve their strategies in any market segment that they decide to participate.
Every time you post AP you feed the beast.

Slightly off topic…
After The Factor, along comes Hannity & Moron.
Several times, Colmes, or Beckel will ask this question:
“Does this mean, that anyone who is a member of Wright’s church is disqualified to be president?”
And, not once, has any of the beanbrains ever been able to give an answer to that…Which is, of course:
“No…All you have to do is get elected.”

Some here are missing a major turning point in American media.
In the 60’s, which I think was the primetime of TV news, there were 3 major outlets vieing for viewership. They had to stay centrist or they could easily alienate a large portion of their viewership… and there was also other media oversite which would call them on it.
Today, we have MANY more media outlets. We have 4 or 5 FULL time news stations, and news analysis stations, and then 4 or more major network evening news programs… along with local affiliates who cover national news.
Instead of, as in the 60s, being considered a successes only if you were close to 1/3 of the viewership, you are now considered OK if you have 1/10th or 1/20th…
NBC has made a business decision to slant their news to go after the 1/5th or so most LEFT viewers, to cater to their likes, to put personalities on who have their viewpoint, in order to cement that 1/5th into viewership.
They are no longer an unbiased news organization, but its about money, not ideaology.
Two problems however.
First is that they are not upfront, and so news orgs and viewers still think they are not slanting stories…
And there is no counterpart on the right.
So, if we total up all news coverage, this has created a shift to the left.

“NBC News” seems to be the magic words to flip out O’Reilly these days, but rants like this — where he comes across treating Bernie and Jane as if they’re on the NBC payroll — are counterproductive, and fall dangerously close to Olby territory.
Also, while Olby’s ratings are up because of his rants against Bush, Clinton and Fox News, his attractable share of the marketplace has gone down. Once he decided to go hard left, he lost all conservatives other than those who tune in for the performance art, but his most recent attacks means he’s also alienated Democrats on the more moderate left who support Clinton. That means to boost his core audience in the future, he’s going to have to get even crazier, which he may have given viewers a preview of on Thursday with his suggestion to Scott McClellan that Bush lied about 9/11.
Olbermann has so far stayed away from Rosie O’Donnell territory, but we may be seeing a change soon as he ramps up the outrage even further to satisfy the netroots desire to believe their political opponents are worse than Hitler.
jon1979 on May 30, 2008 at 11:41 AM
By the left, certainly, and by the same media that routinely gushes over Olbermann’s appalling narcissistic crap (but, of very late, has started to wonder if he’s crossed the line because he’s dared to focus a bit more on attacking fellow liberals).
Allahpundit on May 30, 2008 at 11:42 AM
I don’t mind MSNBC lurching further to the left every day. Anything that helps destroy the credibility of the MSM is all good. I even have a sneaking admiration for DNC-TV. At least they’re quite open about their bias.
Keep it up. Give Keith Overbite a two hour slot.

Bill O’Reilly is a real jerk. I saw his meltdown last night and it was totally uncalled for.

Why should she restrict herself to FOX? They certainly haven’t been fair with her. I’m thinking that if Rachel Ray can have a syndicated talk show, So can Michelle. HotAir TV, the show would almost write itself.

I like Bill. What I like about him is that he is an Alpha male type and doesn’t take any crap like most people in similar shows. When you go on Bill’s show you better have your *stuff* together or he will eat your lunch. (Wrong or right) I think we are just used to seeing beta males throw out questions and never really confront or challenge people like Bill does. I think a little healthy anger is ok.

Claypigeon on May 30, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Oh, that nearly drove me crazy…no one ever responded with the obvious answer, which could have been “No, if a child was brought up in that church & left it as an adult, of course, you would not hold it against them.” Or, “No, if an adult visited that church & walked away disgusted after one or even a few visits, we would not hold it against them.”
Any more, I can’t watch either show (O’Reilly or Hannity & Colmes)….they give me heartburn.

At least O’Reilly has the balls to tell it like it is on Media Bias and he’s willing to point fingers. God Bless him. That’s more than 99.99999% are willing to do.
TheBigOldDog on May 30, 2008 at 12:34 PM
Completely unnecessary and over-dramatic. I’m not sure if he can’t control himself or he’s just dedicated to being some kind of junkyard dog with a microphone. Between his emotional boil-overs and the self-righteousness that permeates every broadcast, I’m done with this clown. I would pay, however, to see a death-cage match between him and Olby.

SouthernGent on May 30, 2008 at 1:23 PM
Bills frustrations are totally warranted, we are witnessing the death of the free press and ultimately the loss of our freedoms. When journalists abandon objectivity in favor of agenda driven manuscripts truth and integrity become subjective. If the Democrats prevail in November, Orwell’s fiction may just become reality via progressive interpretations of moral relativity, the panacea of diversity and the need to replace outmoded traditional American values, free speech will be redefined to be anything but free. Soros and his minions appear to be on the brink of victory.

They could also have some other matches, but this could be the main fight on the card.
Chakra Hammer on May 30, 2008 at 2:07 PM
I watched last night and felt his flipout was totally contrived. It had noise but lacked sincerity.
sheesh on May 30, 2008 at 2:15 PM
I saw this thing last night and I thought it was pretty bad.
First of all, Bernie Goldberg was making a legitimate point…it IS possible to distinguish Tim Russert from the likes of Olberman. Further, O’Reilly completely distorted the nature of Mr. Russert`s quesions to Hillary Clinton during the debate. there was absolutely nothing wrong with Russert asking legititmate questions to the (then) front-runner. They were questions that needed to be asked and Russert asked them as any journalist worth their salt would. The Obama softballs are another issue, but that does not somehow transform the few legitimate questions put to Mrs. Clinton into some kind of inquisition.
Secondly, O’Reilly was extremely rude to his quests. Whether or not you agree with Jane, she should be allowed to get a word in edge-wise…not forced to sit there like some cut-out whose sole purpose is to receive O’Reilly’s verbiage.
Thirdly, O’Reilly is not smart enough to pull this off. Anyone who has ever heard Rush Limbaugh erupt can tell the difference…in knowledge, vocabulary, depth of thought…you name it.
Finally, I agree with KDC above…I don’t watch O’Reilly any more, per se. Ever since the situation with Michelle Malkin…in which he proved that he’s “looking out for himself”…I only try to catch certain guests…Bernie and Jane, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich and maybe Dick Morris. The rest of the time I switch channels and watch baseball.

Keep this in mind about Bill-O. He is very “passionate” about the need for all journalism to be–to coin a phrase–fair and balanced. Even the news analysis that he does on his Fox News Channel show must be based on verified facts and offer other points of view to counter his. It was interesting when he had a gentleman from California who is working in support of the proposed anti-gay-marriage amendment in that state. Bill-O grilled the man as to why he believed in marriage as only between a man and a woman. O’Reilly–despite his own feelings that marriage should only be between a man and woman–continued to push the gentleman even though it was apparent he did not have a good answer. I cannot image anyone on MSNBC embarrassing someone they agree with by asking them a pointed question, let alone pressing them on it when they do not have a good answer for the question.
Wildcatter1980 on May 30, 2008 at 3:02 PM
I remember watching that. People like Olbermann rarely have anyone on his show who disagree with him. O’Reilly does this all the time. O’Reilly is very much fair and balanced, and is constantly being called everything under the sun by the liberals who are no where near as fair as O’Reilly is.
O’Reilly getting ticked off and angry, is completely understandable. It’s really annoying to so so many people here who think that O’Reilly is a Blowhard or whatever. They probably don’t ever watch his program, otherwise they wouldn’t be so ignorant.

You know what – he flipped out over Lynn Sweet a month or two back, called her a Far Left zealot etc, went on a rampage against her, which is obviously not true. I was trying to find the tape on youtube. he included Lynn in a TPM.
Lynn Sweet is covering Father Plaeger and I saw her on with Greta. She does not appear to be a Far Left zealot, I think O’Reilly likes to cherry pick his victims/colleagues according to how they hold him accountable for his actions.
