He might have approached them initially with a very boring, rah-rah Bush manuscript; they might have looked at it and thought they could pressure him into something more spectacular, the windfall potential of which would certainly justify signing him and giving him a modest advance

This is a Far Lefty publisher, ultimately owned by George Soros through Perseus Books. The idea that he would approach this particular publisher with a rah-rah Bush manuscript seems rather unlikely, not unlike going to their colleagues at Nation Books and expecting a warm welcome.

How do we know that Osnos or one of his Human Rights Watch comrades didn’t approach McClellan first, not the other way around? Or that McClellan (and/or his agent) was stupid enough not to know who they were, and allowed himself to be manipulated, just like a good useful idiot? It’s possible Public Affairs could not believe their good fortune when this dolt walked in the door.

At any rate, I don’t care how open minded Alex Koppelman claims Lisa Kaufman, the editor, is. After all, Koppelman writes such mainstream pieces as Michelle Malkin’s White Supremacist Ties.

The Politico has obtained and verified the authenticity of a scathing email former Senator and GOP nominee for prez. Bob Dole sent to Scott McClellan:

Hm. Just like the DNC was ready with a whole campaign on Bush’s National Guard service the day after the first 60 Minutes story which sourced the forged memos.

I guess I should not be surprised that Scott McClellan turned out to be as big a useful idiot as Joe Wilson for the forces who have been hell-bent for 8 years on undermining our president. It’s probably a good wake-up call for our side that these folks are still out there and they are not going to stop. With the war in Iraq finally on its way to being won, they had to pull a big damn rabbit out of their hats to yank the country back to the “Bush Lied” meme. Looks like it’s Scotty.

So there’s DNA in there on each side of the family for both mendacity against your supposed friends and bad timing in going on the attack when it either doesn’t do anything to change the situation or creates future long-term enemies.

The state legislature only meets for five months every two years, and almost immediately out of the box in January 2003 Strayhorn began criticizing the budget and fiscal plans of Gov. Rick Perry (also re-elected in ’02) to the point of siding with House and Senate Democrats in the Legislature who were opposing his budget. There already were rumors that Strayhorn planned a run against Perry in the 2006 GOP primary, but 2003 was also the year Democrats in the legislature fled the state to prevent a quorum from being present to support the Republican redistricting plan, which replaced a court-mandated plan based on the Democratic legislature’s lines drawn in 1991.

Siding with the Democrats in a legislative year that was so divisive was a truly stupid move by Strayhorn, who spend the next two years sniping at Perry (and other Republicans in the Legislature) before challenging him in March of 2006. She lost, then lost again in her independent bid that November, with Bush (obviously) supporting Perry, as his party’s nominee.

Scott seems a lot wimpier than mom or dad, so if he got a job from some liberal media outlet or organization thanks to his willingness to attack Bush in the book, I think he would shut up and do what he’s told as long as he kept his position. But once he left, I wouldn’t count on him to have your back for very long.

Bush has himself to blame for appointing this weasel.
