Susan Sarandon: If Obama loses, I’ll be “checking out” leaving America

posted at 3:27 pm on May 29, 2008 by Allahpundit
Send to a Friend | Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

What’s the time? It’s about that time. She’s been a trooper up ’til now — 36 years of her life lived under Republican presidents and still, somehow, she hasn’t left yet. How does she stand it?

She must be a bona fide SuperPatriot.

“I’ve got a lot of flak from feminists who feel that I should be supporting Hillary Clinton, but I thought the whole point of feminism is that you’re not supposed to be defined by gender,” she says…

Always busy, Sarandon is about to start work on the romantic period drama The Colossus, but with the presidential election campaign being heatedly contested, she also has bigger things to consider.

“If McCain gets in, it’s going to be very, very dangerous,” she says.

“It’s a critical time, but I have faith in the American people. If they prove me wrong, I’ll be checking out a move to Italy. Maybe Canada, I don’t know. We’re at an abyss.”

Exit question: Why only “checking out”? Is that a nod at McCain’s maverickiness? Amnesty plus campaign finance reform plus emissions caps must count for something.

Well… you know… since she’s no longer Queen of Andulusia….

/breaks into song….

Romeo13 on May 29, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Why do American socialists think we want them here in Europe? Seriously, just send her to North Korea. I hear Kim loves white prostitutes, albeit usually the Scandinavian variety.

GermanAtheist on May 29, 2008 at 4:02 PM

LOL. The hypocrites probably wouldn’t even change their citizenship, so their adopted countries wouldn’t even get to hit them with huge taxes that the rest of you pay.

funky chicken on May 29, 2008 at 4:15 PM

“…but I thought the whole point of feminism is that you’re not supposed to be defined by gender…”

There you go thinking again, sweetie. Careful, you’re not skilled and you may get hurt.

Did she ever pause to think about what the meaning of the root of the word feminism is?

Do we classify her statement as parody? Parodox? Oxy moron? I know…paradoxymoron!

ynot4tony2 on May 29, 2008 at 4:16 PM

The bet….isn’t this like taking the Patroits AND 20 points?

Nice spoiler!

Maybe sort of a Ghost Dad sort of angle?

Chuck Schick on May 29, 2008 at 4:17 PM

Either way, Susan will be living in a foreign country — because if Obama wins, they’ll be coming here to live.

My collie says:

Do you suppose that the liberals will still have the hots for Susan if she’s wearing a burqa?

CyberCipher on May 29, 2008 at 4:17 PM

I say go to Venezuela and work in Chavez’s Ville de’ Cine; You, Spacey, Stone and every other Hollywood fruitcake can all go make crappy movies down there and really live the Socialismo lifestyle. And just think, if each and every one of you takes a couple of Mexicans with you as translators and pool boys we will be more than half way to solving two problems; traitors and illegals.

Ciannaky on May 29, 2008 at 4:19 PM

“If McCain gets in, it’s going to be very, very dangerous.”
-
If B. Husain Obama gets in, this country will really go to hell in a hand basket! As for this Sarandon bimbo she needs to leave the country any way. Her acting is childish, and down right pathetic. As for her politics it is Nazistic! Hell I vote that she take the rest of those Hollywood idiots with her!

Confederate on May 29, 2008 at 4:19 PM

Wasn’t Alec Baldwin supposed to move out with the last election? Would be nice if the moonbats kept their promises. She could take her beau, Tim Robbins under one arm and say, hmmmm, Sean Penn under the other one. We need another Joseph McCarthy out in Hollyweird…The place is crawling with Commies…………

adamsmith on May 29, 2008 at 4:19 PM

At least conservatives now have at least one reason for vote for McCain.

orlandocajun on May 29, 2008 at 4:04 PM

Hey, orlandocajun, the AFL-CIO put in lots of union manhours to compile lots of other reasons for you too. Of course they really did it to scare their followers into believing that John McCain is a “right wing extremist” guy, but hey, it’s a good effort tracing his conservative record back for many years.

Take a gander at it, because it will make you feel better voting to send Ms. Sarandon’s candidate down.

Good point.

Most people don’t have a clue what faith really is.

Kerry lost and she’s still here. So go, already. Good riddance!

Steve Z on May 29, 2008 at 4:20 PM

When Susan leaves please let her take Obama’s America-hating wife with her.

MaiDee on May 29, 2008 at 4:20 PM

If McCain gets in, it’s going to be very, very dangerous,” she says.

“It’s a critical time, but I have faith in the American people. If they prove me wrong, I’ll be checking out a move to Italy. Maybe Canada, I don’t know. We’re at an abyss.”

Like my liberal pacifist brother-in-law, Sarandon is afraid of violence and war. She’s afraid of McCain because it might mean war with Iran. She’s looking at Canada or Italy because she wants a modern place that won’t be hit. I think this is about fear and cowardice, not principle. If she thought the US was about to be hit or hurt, she’d be gone in a minute.

JiangxiDad on May 29, 2008 at 4:22 PM

Nice spoiler!

Sorry.

Maybe sort of a Ghost Dad sort of angle?

Chuck Schick on May 29, 2008 at 4:17 PM

Sarandon playing a ghost might be a little too obvious. She’s fairly attractive, for her age, but she’s getting up there.

Esthier on May 29, 2008 at 4:22 PM

Promises promises,.. we heard all this in 2004 and the stink of hippies still hangs thick in the air.

Red Pill on May 29, 2008 at 4:20 PM

She could have said, “I have faith in the American people, so I won’t be checking out any other places.”

Not sure I have faith, but I know what it is.

JiangxiDad on May 29, 2008 at 4:24 PM

Believe when I see it. My guess is she’ll gain about 40 pounds like Vicent D’Onofrio.

Six years. Three months. Thirteen days. No movies attended, rented, ordered. I give Susan Sarandon the death penalty, every day.

mymanpotsandpans on May 29, 2008 at 4:32 PM

Why compromise your principles at all, Susan? I’m sure Hugo would love to have both you and your son…er, husband in Venezuela.

Blacklake on May 29, 2008 at 4:35 PM

I’m drawing a blank on the chick with the big lips - oh, yeah, Julia Roberts - that said if Bush won, rape would be legalized and the republican doctors would NOT be aborting babies in back allies on a timely enough basis.

Sarandon sounds like she’s saying things will be much better under McCain.

Cameron Diaz.

mymanpotsandpans on May 29, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Why do these egotistical idiots think we care what they do? Go already! Nobody is stopping you!!!

Maybe we could get Oprah to declare she’s headed out and get whole planeloads of these people re-settled in Africa, Europe or some liberal friendly locale.

highhopes on May 29, 2008 at 4:45 PM

I’m drawing a blank on the chick with the big lips - oh, yeah, Julia Roberts - that said if Bush won, rape would be legalized and the republican doctors would NOT be aborting babies in back allies on a timely enough basis.

I think it was Cameron Diaz who said that on the Oprah Winfrey Show. They might have both said similar things.

aengus on May 29, 2008 at 4:47 PM

Please, Hugo, take our precious celebrities. Without them, the world might get a chance to see America as a 24 year-old idealist volunteer putting his ir her life on the line daily to free millions from oppression and terror, giving them a chance to learn about democracy and send 7th-century barbarism back to the ash-heap of history.

With them, the world sees America as effete, spoiled children, ready to tie themselves in mental knots and roll in hip-deep hypocricy to be cool.

drunyan8315 on May 29, 2008 at 4:49 PM

Nothing like Hollywood morons making ignorant comments to rally the GOP base. I see a McCain landslide if they keep opening their mouths.

Rick on May 29, 2008 at 4:51 PM

I have no doubt that if McCain wins, Sarandon will backtrack and say that she didn’t say what she said. That is the way these things usually go isn’t it?

Rip Ford on May 29, 2008 at 5:07 PM

THE CHOSEN ONE on May 29, 2008 at 5:17 PM

Clue for Ms. Susan - Canada and Italy switched to conservative governments.

I’ve had the same instincts lately, if Obama wins, but I wanted to go to Australia or Switzerland. I realized that Australia voted in a liberal, though not as bad as I initially thought; secondarily the fear of sounding as irrational as Susan Sarandon cured me.

Entelechy on May 29, 2008 at 5:19 PM

Will she take Robbins, Penn, Baldwin, etc. with her? Let’s hope so.

Kowboy on May 29, 2008 at 5:21 PM

Oh, now, if Obama wins, I’d like to be transported to Mars, but I don’t know how to physically make it happen, and also don’t know yet if life there is possible.

Entelechy on May 29, 2008 at 5:21 PM

Maybe this dummy, can meet up somewhere on the planet, with dumber Alec Baldwin. Matter of fact, most of the Hollyweirdos belong at Gitmo, testing water-boarding.

byteshredder on May 29, 2008 at 5:32 PM

Thank, Susan.

That stupidity likely gained McCain 10,000 votes in the fall.

Americans don’t like being told what to do, sweetie. And they certainly don’t like hearing it from someone who openly loathes everything they cherish.

Yet another in the million examples of the greatest liberal truth: they are their own worst enemies - and if they ever shut up, they might have a little more success.

Keep talking, toots. Tell us more about the abyss. That sounded interesting. You should make a big movie about that.

Well, well. NOT that she has to choose between the two, with all her money…just that, well… weatherwise it’s like saying, “I don’t know if I prefer 90 or 65 degree summers…40 or -40 degree winters…”.

I suggest we all pitch in and buy her a one-way ticket to Teheran…heh.

docdave on May 29, 2008 at 8:53 PM

Sarandon is one of the best actresses that I can think of. That being said, considering leaving the country is stupid. It’s a surrender above everything else.

freevillage on May 29, 2008 at 8:57 PM

I saw Tim Robbins and his spawn at an NHL hockey game and I wondered why the hell does someone like him like hockey? It stands for everything liberals are against: it’s a game of physical superiority, intense competition, fighting is allowed and even an integral part of “the code”, you pick and play for a side, someone wins and someone loses, everyone gets paid a big salary, the teams are often owned by big eeeeeeeevil corporations, so whouldn’t he and his spawn be more comfortable going to like, an art fair or sculpture show or something wussified like that? They just don’t belong at hockey games. Anyway, sorry for getting off-topic. I think we should get a group together to offer to help them re-locate to another country.
