Susan Sarandon: If Obama loses, I’ll be “checking out” leaving America

What’s the time? It’s about that time. She’s been a trooper up ’til now — 36 years of her life lived under Republican presidents and still, somehow, she hasn’t left yet. How does she stand it?
She must be a bona fide SuperPatriot.
“I’ve got a lot of flak from feminists who feel that I should be supporting Hillary Clinton, but I thought the whole point of feminism is that you’re not supposed to be defined by gender,” she says…
Always busy, Sarandon is about to start work on the romantic period drama The Colossus, but with the presidential election campaign being heatedly contested, she also has bigger things to consider.
“If McCain gets in, it’s going to be very, very dangerous,” she says.
“It’s a critical time, but I have faith in the American people. If they prove me wrong, I’ll be checking out a move to Italy. Maybe Canada, I don’t know. We’re at an abyss.”
Exit question: Why only “checking out”? Is that a nod at McCain’s maverickiness? Amnesty plus campaign finance reform plus emissions caps must count for something.

Cicero43 on May 29, 2008 at 3:31 PM
What does Italy offer her, politically?
I have no problem with her wanting to live there- it is a beautiful country. But is it the Italian abortion laws that lure her there? The freedom of speech protections? Their lack of involvement in the war on terror? Her inability to vote there at all?
MayBee on May 29, 2008 at 3:32 PM
She’s only “checking out” Italy and Canada because she has no real intention of moving away from the US. Hollywood is where all the work is.
aengus on May 29, 2008 at 3:32 PM
Its just a jump to the left…..
and then a step to the riiiiiggggghhhhhtttttt…..
Romeo13 on May 29, 2008 at 3:33 PM
Given the way you and John Goodman sucked in Speed Racer I would think finding a new career in another country might be in order.
Bill C on May 29, 2008 at 3:33 PM
Couldn’t we just sell all the land in and around Hollywood (and San Francisco) to Canada?
jasnell on May 29, 2008 at 3:33 PM
But… but… if she leaves…. what happens to the Durham Bulls????
Romeo13 on May 29, 2008 at 3:34 PM
They never live up to their promises…McCain, very very dangerous…every election they trot out the doomsday Republican…very, very, dangerous…
right2bright on May 29, 2008 at 3:35 PM
Why wait Susan? Avoid the rush and leave now. And why don’t you take that tool Alec Baldwin with you when you go. Isn’t he the one who promised to leave the country if Bush won? Like most liberals, he’s all talk and no action.
AZCoyote on May 29, 2008 at 3:35 PM
Didn’t they say the same thing before Bush got elected twice?
Chakra Hammer on May 29, 2008 at 3:35 PM
Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.
piraticalbob on May 29, 2008 at 3:35 PM
So promised on May 29, 2008.
I can’t wait.
(I might have to go buy a copy of “Team America” and watch the scene of Susan Sarandon, Film Actor’s Guild in the DVD to celebrate.)

Please do!
But leave the breastage behind!

Promises promises….
These folks must have had problems finding the exit sign after Bush was elected:
Barbra Streisand (actor)
Alec Baldwin (actor)
Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam)
Robert Altman (director)
Pierre Salinger (Kennedy administration)

The Ugly American on May 29, 2008 at 3:39 PM
Susan SarandonRightWinged: If Obamaloseswins, I’ll be “checking out” leaving America. Especially if the House and Senate majorities balloon as much as it sounds like they might. Stick a fork in the US as we know it, it’s done. Enter socialist eutopia. By the way, mark my words, the protected status of the polar bear will prove to be a major nail in our coffin.RightWinged on May 29, 2008 at 3:40 PM
Robert Altman managed to find the big exit sign in the sky, Mo2Do.
MayBee on May 29, 2008 at 3:41 PM
Didn’t she make this threat before, to leave if Bush won in 2004?
Seriously, Susan, no one is stopping you.
I have a companion proposal for you also:
Hunger strike.
Hawkins1701 on May 29, 2008 at 3:41 PM
Defeat Osama! Obama! and Chelsea’s Momma ‘08!!
…Oh, and Susan Sarandumm
F*ck It! McCain ‘08!!
cntrlfrk on May 29, 2008 at 3:41 PM
She’s hedging her bet so that she won’t look as foolish as Alec Baldwin for not following through when McCain wins.
Nosferightu on May 29, 2008 at 3:41 PM
Unless you’re female and conservative.
Or worse yet….female, conservative and lesbian.
And no, I don’t date much.
The Ugly American on May 29, 2008 at 3:44 PM
Poor Canada or Italy.
Why not “check out” venezuela Sue?
SaintOlaf on May 29, 2008 at 3:44 PM
I wish for once these phuquin idiots would keep their word.
redrock on May 29, 2008 at 3:45 PM
Bull. She was supposed to leave after gore and kerry lost.
Honestly, will we miss her?
Mazztek on May 29, 2008 at 3:45 PM
I have a friend with a raging case of BDS and he is a truther to boost. At least he had the guts to put his money where his rhetoric was. He moved to Austria, married an Austrian girl and is now a happy little Euro-weenie.
Don’t just say it, do it. Show us your convictions, Susan!
tommylotto on May 29, 2008 at 3:45 PM
Please take your husband, Redford, Streisand and Baldwin with you. Maybe you can charter a plane for a smaller footprint.
We’ll miss you, but we’ll cope.
tgillian on May 29, 2008 at 3:45 PM
A move to Italy or Canada? Two conservative governments?
Vizzini on May 29, 2008 at 3:45 PM
Words…just words.
Mich_93 on May 29, 2008 at 3:45 PM
That picture of Sarandon looks just like Brett Sommers from Match Game, a game show in the 70’s.
Pam on May 29, 2008 at 3:46 PM
I’ll help pay for her ticket, as long as she takes Jim Carter with her.
Kjeil on May 29, 2008 at 3:46 PM
Smirk. Her faith lasted one sentence. Strong stuff that.

Well there you are. I’ll be voting McCain for sure now. See ya’, Susan!
Sue on May 29, 2008 at 3:47 PM
Gather all the Hollywierd Leftist wackjobs in one place & force them onto a leaky boat bound for N. Korea. Let Lil’Kim deal with them, if they make it.
Now doesn’t that sound like a dream come true ?
Ltmousseman on May 29, 2008 at 3:47 PM
Say Susan
If Obama wins I’m gonna leave. That makes the whole country more than even.
What would you be willing to trade to get that loony bin bimbo a one way ticket to anywhere but here?
RFA on May 29, 2008 at 3:51 PM
How can we miss her and Tim Robbins if they won’t leave?
Of course, so many of them already check out to go film in Canada, where the costs are less. American unions crank up the costs when filming in the USA.
William Teach on May 29, 2008 at 3:52 PM
Another person that makes a living repeating what others write threatens to leave……
The reasons just keep piling up to vote for McCain.
Hening on May 29, 2008 at 3:52 PM
Hey Susan: you Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi Leftist Democratic Traitor Nutbag; when you get ready to Pack, give me a call, I’ll be glad to come and help YOU PACK YOUR STUFF!

We’ve heard this before.
stenwin77 on May 29, 2008 at 3:54 PM
That’s a decent reason to vote for McCain.
Esthier on May 29, 2008 at 3:54 PM
McCain just pulled ahead in all 57 states.
JammieWearingFool on May 29, 2008 at 3:54 PM
One less nutty liberal in America? Sounds good to me. Go McCain!
SoulGlo on May 29, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Again? Didn’t she and other leave when Bush was elected?
My comment to her, don’t let the door hit ya where the Good Lord Split Ya.
LewWaters on May 29, 2008 at 3:54 PM
The McCain campaign should use her pledge in a commercial.
aunursa on May 29, 2008 at 3:55 PM
If Louise believes McCain is dangerous, then by golly he’s my candidate!
T J Green on May 29, 2008 at 3:55 PM
“Vote for McCain. It’ll get Susan Sarandon out of the country.”
Could work.
Esthier on May 29, 2008 at 3:55 PM
Please God dont leave before completing Stepmom 2!!!!!
Chuck Schick on May 29, 2008 at 3:57 PM
Will she take Tim Robbins with her? I’m still waiting for Alec Baldwin to leave.

Bye, bye, Susie-poo!
Shall we start getting together the one-way-ticket fund???
seanrobins on May 29, 2008 at 3:58 PM
FYI–it’s ‘trouper’, as in a vaudeville troupe, not ‘trooper’. I see bloggers misusing the term everywhere now; this one should should continue to set a standard for excellence.
Hope P. Muntz on May 29, 2008 at 3:59 PM
She died.
Esthier on May 29, 2008 at 3:59 PM
Unfortunately, not one of these dopes has the guts to follow through with their “threats” – they seem to hang around, nonetheless.
seanrobins on May 29, 2008 at 3:59 PM
At least it’s one of the first visible cracks in the Obama inevitability argument. Sarandon is an enemy, but not so dumb. She understands he’s likely to lose, but wants to blame it on racist bigoted America, and not on the candidate and his party. She’s just setting the stage for the inevitable blame us scenario.
JiangxiDad on May 29, 2008 at 3:59 PM
Tim Robbins (her “husband”) will stay here and actually marry some young thing.
baldilocks on May 29, 2008 at 3:59 PM
Screw that, she goes cargo.
Iblis on May 29, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Just like Sharon Stone and her most recent display of her lack of principles these folks have proven to date to be all talk. None of them are turning down American dollars or American work. I would have a little bit of respect for some of them if they followed through AND rejected capitalism. Now we can add Susan to this shameful list.
Terri on May 29, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Didn’t he? I seem to remember a phone call to his daughter saying goodbye.
JiangxiDad on May 29, 2008 at 4:01 PM
I bet you won’t go through with it Susan. Prove me wrong.
raiderdav on May 29, 2008 at 4:01 PM
All these hollywood morons say that, then when the evil republicans win, they dont leave. I think George Soros said that if he couldnt in effect buy the Whitehouse for the Dems in ‘04 with his money, he would go “to a Tibetan monastery.” If only these people were not congenital liars…
Lunkinator on May 29, 2008 at 4:01 PM
Well…. Bye.
saltydogg14 on May 29, 2008 at 4:01 PM
Isn’t Alec Baldwin Canadian?
raiderdav on May 29, 2008 at 4:02 PM
Why do American socialists think we want them here in Europe? Seriously, just send her to North Korea. I hear Kim loves white prostitutes, albeit usually the Scandinavian variety.
GermanAtheist on May 29, 2008 at 4:02 PM
At least conservatives now have at least one reason for vote for McCain.

Stay out my country wench! If Italy will take ya, that’s their problem.
Jim708 on May 29, 2008 at 4:04 PM
I know it’s an old cliché but it is still so appropriate for Sarandon . . . don’t let the door hit you in the butt on your way out: and see if you can talk some of your Hollywood friends into going with you. By the way, don’t leave a forwarding address because we won’t be needing it.
rplat on May 29, 2008 at 4:05 PM
Promise? Pretty, pretty please?
StephC on May 29, 2008 at 4:05 PM
FYI,
Sue-Sue is not married.
She’s been shacking up with Tim Robbins since 1988 producing two sons in their ‘partnership’.
A real family values type of gal.
To Sue I say: Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.
pocomoco on May 29, 2008 at 4:06 PM
Me thinks she won’t like Italy any better. They don’t allow gay marriage. Plus, it’s the home of those horrible Catholics. Ewww! Yucky. Perhaps North Korea is more up her alley. Knock yourself out Susan. Take Tim with you.
