Pfleger at Trinity: Hillary cried after Iowa because of “white entitlement”; Update: Pfleger on Farrakhan

Bob Owens e-mailed yesterday wondering why Fr. Michael “We’re going to find you and snuff you out” Pfleger had disappeared from Obama’s faith testimonials page after having once been featured there. (See the end of MM’s post from March for a screencap.) Here’s one possible answer. The YouTube description says it was shot May 25; I can’t find anything on the wires to confirm that but you can tell from the crowd behind him that this is from a different appearance than the one where he defended Wright and Farrakhan. Another case, a la McCain and Hagee/Parsley, of a politician not having vetted a colorful preacher thoroughly enough before touting his endorsement? Nope: According to this CSM piece from last year, Barry O’s known Pfleger since his early days in Chicago. Funny how these longtime acquaintances of his keep “surprising” him with incendiary racial rhetoric.

Update: Here’s older video, via Patrick Ishmael, of Pfleger paying tribute to the right reverend Louis Farrakhan.

When was the last time Obama was at church? If we can find the days he was there, we can find the sermons that were given as he sat through them.

Please Michael Pfleger, keep talking.

wise_man on May 29, 2008 at 12:17 PM

I’m convinced this man is, uhm, uh, on his knees a lot in front of Obama.

Do they even talk about Christ in that church, or is it only about race and red ideals?

If you go to the channel page for the video’s uploader, this isn’t the first video of sermons at Trinity he’s put online. Others include Obama’s new pastor (Otis Moss) rallying against “the enemy”.

Apparently never. Trinity could have it written into their statement of faith (or other euphemism for “reasons we’re racist”) that their service is explicitly racist, controversial, and hateful.

Obama would still say, “Well, I’ve never heard anything bad. And even if I did, I can’t disown him - he’s like my racist white grandmother!”

Every time I see junk like this I think this time, this time I’ve finally seen enough not to be outraged, but alas every time I see this kind of race baiting it just p***** me off.

And I know this is only a small clip of his whole sermon, but I just have to wonder was the equality under God or any part of the gospel or biblical wisdom taught here or was it simply “Whitey has it out for you my black brothers and sisters!”?

“The biggest challenge, I think, is always maintaining your moral compass.

Friends and advisers, such as the Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church in the Auburn- Gresham community on the South Side, who has
known Obama for the better part of 20 years, help him keep that compass set, he says.

Here’s Obama’s new pastor going on about lepers (who were treated as second class because they had a “skin condition”).

“They were considered to be second-class citizens. They had a skin issue. They had a skin disease. And the lepers lived in a leper project. The lepers had bad health care. The lepers were disrespected. They had funny names for lepers. The lepers were considered inferior, they had an inferior school system. The lepers lived in a ghetto leper colony. The lepers were segregated from everybody else.

The lepers were considered to be inferior, but they refused to give up. They decided to leave the city, even though they had a skin condition, that everybody thought was a problem in their life. They said, “That’s not going to stop me from my destiny”. Just because you think I have a skin condition, does not mean I’ve got to stop right here and die, and says “Oh, woe is me”.”

He goes on to say they leave the city, and go to the “camp of the enemy”.

amerpundit on May 29, 2008 at 12:35 PM

wh wha what? 401K’s are racist? Blacks don’t have 401K’s?

On another note, I’ve gone to the same church for 16 years. In that time no one, NO-ONE, has ever preached about race, not even once, it’s all about God, every week. Now, is it me or does Osama’s mosque church spend alot of pulpit time obsessed with America/whitey hatin’?

This should get like a billion comments.

darclon on May 29, 2008 at 12:36 PM

Give up your 401(k) to atone for your ancestor’s sins?!? Has he read the Torah (Pentateuch)? It says, specifically, that each person is responsible for his/her own sins.

This “Reverend” fell asleep in Hebrew Scriptures class, obviously.

Now, tell me again about John Haggee. I dare ya.

newton on May 29, 2008 at 12:38 PM

I wonder who Pfleger would like us to give our 401Ks to and whether he thinks our place in heaven would be ensured if we give up our ‘insurance policies’ that are based on the sins of our forefathers.
I’m surprised that this heavy mouth breathing idiot hasn’t had his skin changed to what Michael Jackson’s skin should look like. Maybe that’s why he keeps his eyes closed alot; he doesn’t want to see how white he really is compared to the congregation.
Despite his white guilt complex on steroids, Pfleger is a gift that keeps on giving.

This guy of the “religious left” proves that it is not just hate; you gots to have style and shake your ass while you throw out the invective like Hitler, Mussilini and Castro did. I don’t blame Pfleger. If you can’t engage in self abuse you have to find other outlets.
Having said that, the attacks on Hillary are sweet because this kind of big mouth mocking was often used in service of Hillary and Bill and not used to attack them.
Karma is gonna get you.

State pork to Obama’s district included allies, donors

“”It happens that there were major supporters in my district who had been supporters before they got member initiatives,” Obama said, noting that some of his contributors had been his allies for years.

One of those long-time supporters was Rev. Michael Pfleger, the politically active leader of St. Sabina Church. He gave Obama’s campaign $1,500 between 1995 and 2001, including $200 in April 2001, about three months after Obama announced $225,000 in grants to St. Sabina programs.

Pfleger said he made those donations personally, not on behalf of the church or to win grants.

“At a time when less people vote than ever, I don’t think pastors should be silent on politics,” Pfleger said.”

The guy is a moron and an embarrassment. In all the places I’ve lived, I’ve never come across any priest like this.

Chicago archdiocese speaks out on Pfleger

Bettinelli says:

“I’m not sure why the archdiocese needs to wait for the civil authorities to investigate before it can take action. Pfleger is a Catholic priest. His words are clearly documented. His previous heterodox and syncretist and publicly disobedient actions give clear cause for the cardinal to act. But as someone pointed out in an email to me, given the state the Church in Chicago is in—with the amount of heterodoxy among the clergy—that any kind of public statement from the archdiocese that is willing to acknowledge that a priest has crossed the line is a big step.”

Connie on May 29, 2008 at 1:01 PM

Pfleger went native just to find his little place in the spotlight, its all about him,not Christ, not the people.
He should talk about Entitlements, the democrats he supports are enabling this country and turning it into a Nanny State. Pfleger is a disgrace to the Church.

Irenaeus on May 29, 2008 at 1:02 PM

Bush tried to speak Spanish and he was accused of being racist against hispanics. What is Pfleger’s excuse?
Now we know how Eminem would have turned out if he became a priest. He sounds very condecending but the crowds seems to love it.

“l1911 wrote: You are correct in that this church does not resemble a regular Catholic Church. St Sabina is in an all black neighborhood in Chicago. The pastor is Father Fleiger and as a Catholic I can tell you he is not a conventional Catholic Priest. His services do not resemble any of the Catholic Masses that I go to and his vestments look a lot like what Reverend Wright wears. His Mass appears to be Black Revival Meetings I don’t know how he gets the Catholic Liturgy mixed in. I admit all I have seen is on TV. Father Fleiger is called Flacky Fleiger by a lot of folks, Catholic and Non Catholic. He is on TV, in Chicago, a lot because he has never seen a street demonstration he didn’t like as long as it has a liberal, socialist out come. The first time I saw him he was demonstrating against tobacco advertising in black neighborhoods. He loves gun control demonstrations a lot. From a Catholic point a view he openly defied the Archbishop of Chicago and got away with it. I lost a lot of respect for Cardinal George because of that. The Archdiocese of Chicago has had a long standing rule that a Catholic Priest cannot stay in the same parish for longer than seven years. This rule goes back for at least 70 years that I know of. When Cardinal George became Archbishop he asked Flacky Fleiger to leave St. Sabina because he had already been there for twelve years. Fleiger defied the Cardinal and his parishoners supported his defiance. The Cardinal backed down and Flacky Fleiger is still there. This is unheard of in the Catholic church. Normally when a Bishop or Archbishop tells a priest to jump the priest does not even ask how high, he just jumps. This guy is out of control and getting away with it.”

Connie on May 29, 2008 at 1:13 PM

Man there must be a lot of money in white hate. But you have to learn to talk the white hate talk, the short clipping remarks, the polysyllabic words that don’t fit but sound good. Each sentence a bumper sticker. You have to be “con-tentious without be’in preeetentious”, I think I have to pass.

It was bad enough Wright took the name of the Lord to bray false witness against his fellow man. Here’s this guy extolling the virtue of coveting thy neighbor’s property. This isn’t a church derived from Judeo-Christian tradition. It’s an intellectual construct of neo-marxism and black nationalism. The clerical trappings are sheep’s skin on the wolves. What good works are performed by this church? What kind of community did Obama organize with these poisonous nostrums?

Liberation theology, black or otherwise, is not about spreading the gospel of Jesus. It is a social “gospel” which is not a gospel at all, gospel meaning “good news.” Paul said if anybody comes along preaching another gospel they are anathema - accursed.
And Peter says teachers are going to be held to a stricter judgment. I really would not like to be in these guy’s shoes when they appear at the Great White Throne Judgment.

abcurtis on May 29, 2008 at 1:59 PM

When was the last time Obama was at church? If we can find the days he was there, we can find the sermons that were given as he sat through them.

amerpundit on May 29, 2008 at 12:15 PM

It won’t matter. Even the sermon he quotes in his book is bad enough to serve as proof that he knew what the church was all about, but that doesn’t stop people from their worship of him.

Here’s Obama’s new pastor going on about lepers (who were treated as second class because they had a “skin condition”).

amerpundit on May 29, 2008 at 12:35 PM

Esthier on May 29, 2008 at 3:05 PM

It doesn’t take a lot of insight to understand that you’re right, your enemies are wrong and they owe you lots of money.

Where did he learn to talk like that? Is it some obscure Irish accent?

snaggletoothie on May 29, 2008 at 3:07 PM

As a preacher, course language, political commentary, and racist propaganda are the last thing that should be coming from a Pulpit.

I find this so incredulous because in John 4, Jesus goes to the woman at the well and asks for a drink. This woman was probably of ill repute since she was getting water during the day and she was a Samaritan, people whom most Jews despised since they were half-breeds. To give a historical counterpoint, this would be like Rev. Wright going to a KKK potluck. Yet, Jesus spoke the truth to her in spite of her “origins” and did not even bring it up. The point of the Gospel is that all of these issues are healed under the blood of Christ. This Gospel these people are preaching isn’t the Gospel I read. It truly is sad.

brotherbell on May 29, 2008 at 3:09 PM

The second video really bothered me. Pfleger and his congregation do understand that they are Christians and Farrakhan is a muslim?

There is a place for dialog between religions, but when religion say fundamentally different things, there does come a time when their services should be separate. There comes a point where you have to decide if Jesus redeemed from our sins or if Mohammed is the final and greatest prophet. Logically, you can’t have both like the Marxist capitalists of the Democratic Party.

Keep talking about “white entitlement” because you’re digging your guy’s political grave. This sort of stuff just alienates the labor vote.

I don’t see how telling coal miners and factory workers they walked into the land of plenty because they are white will resonate. Speaking as one who came from a poor family and joined the Army to go to college, this sort of thing just pisses people off.
