Yawn: Olbermann compares right-wingers to jihadists

Whenever I post about him, inevitably half a dozen angry comments follow demanding to know why I keep posting about him, as though he’s too inconsequential to warrant five minutes of precious blog energy. Newsflash: I posted an eleven-year-old soccer video today. Content is content. But after watching this I’m reconsidering those comments, not because he’s not worth my time but because he’s so shameless that he’s basically impervious to charges of hypocrisy. No one on television takes greater (or rather, more histrionic) exception when the left is labeled soft on terror, yet no one but no one is quicker to equate his own opponents with actual terrorists. Fox News is “worse than Al Qaeda” and as dangerous as the Klan; the Republican Party is “the leading terrorist group in this country right now”; Michelle and the “lunatic fringe” are “fascists” and “the people in this country who most closely share the mentality of the terrorists.” Ironically, the only evildoers in the Olbyverse who don’t seem to be guilty of terrorism are … actual terrorists themselves. His show is one long serial exercise in questioning the patriotism of people he disagrees with, yet heaven forbid that the cause of Progress ever suffer the same indignity. So here he is, either oblivious to his own rhetoric or fully aware and fully indifferent, hammering away on the bloggy equivalent of the 9/11 hijackers or Nazi camp guards or whichever demon he’ll use tomorrow to demagogue conservatives. Exit question for Time magazine: Is Olby still merely approaching self-parody or has he with this at last attained full-fledged self-parodic nirvana?

Why does anyone even have cable TV? It cost, what at least $50 a month?, and is not worth that much for a year. It cost far more per year than a regular TV set, which should last at least 10 years, costs.

This guy is a 1st class loser. He has few peers.
By the way, on the scarf, either way the company responded to market concerns. That’s smart business, KO.

I think its important for conservatives/sane people to take on these lunatics and propagandist. When you don’t, they may not get as much free publicity out of it but at the same time they are influencing some who casually watch and don’t know any better. Same for Ron Paul/lew Rockwell idiocy, the ignore/dismiss strategy just let uninformed conservative voters to spend alot of time reading their propaganda.

Keith Olbermann is Ossama Bin Laden’s worst nightmare.
Bin Laden is saying to himself after watching Keith Olbermann:
“No attack. I’ll pass, let them have him.”
Indy Conservative on May 28, 2008 at 11:18 PM
I’ve left my share of those comments, but they were never in anger, and never because I thought KO wasn’t worth the blog-mojo. It’s just that I think he feeds off right-wing outrage, and the worst thing anybody could do to Olby at this point is ignore him.

As AP notes, Olbermann insists that the Islamist terror threat is neglible to non-existent and is merely used by Republicans to terrorize (literally) the electorate into supporting them.
And yet conservatives (Fox News, et cetera) are as bad as the Islamists.
Who, again, according to this clown aren’t much of a threat.
Somewhere on some planet that makes sense; but not this one.
So, we have the long line of NBC anchors going from Chet Huntley and David Brinkley to Tom Brokaw to Keith Olbermann.
Such is the decline of a once great news organization.

Frankly, I couldn’t care at all about this pretend journalist if not for the fact that (1) nearly every media critic swoons over the guy and (2) MSNBC allows him to co-anchor the news desk for their election coverage and for debates.
Now that’s a joke.
If he wants to be a lefty Limbaugh, fine; but don’t pretend to be a friggin’ news anchor and objective reporter because that is completely baseless.
SteveMG on May 28, 2008 at 11:25 PM
The reason I’ve decided not to write about this fool on my blog is because there isn’t a single ounce of authenticity, believability, credulity… any “ity” at all.
He is just a buffoon, a clown, a goof. There is nothing that he says or does that is can be taken seriously. Therefore, he is utterly immaterial to serious debate and discussion.
I’d rather not waste my time on court jesters. This is the same reason I do not write about John Stewart. Neither are serious commentators, they are comedians!! There is no there, there.
So, the clown prince of MSNBC stays off my blog. I value my blog space more than that.

The left in this country will grab any straw (like Olby) that might show that they were right to begin with. The trouble is and the truth is that the left in this country has been aiding and comforting our enemies for the last five years. They know this and feel guilty. That’s why they are happily united at the McClellan disloyalty.

I’ve never watched this man before this clip.
Please don’t take my remarks as flippant, they are from a scientific study and measure of his head in this clip.
My observation: Although he has an overly large head, he has a very small cranium. The quantitative relationship between human cranial capacity and mental ability has been established for over a century.
It would be a reasonable estimate that his IQ does not exceed 110.
I was taught not to mock the dumb kids in scool. It is proper behavior here as well.

Olby’s in the unique position of firing up his base through self-marginalization. His 24/7 shilling for Obama and demonizing all of the left’s perceived enemies has boosted his ratings within that core group, but his attacks on Hillary Clinton have caused other Democrats to suddenly see in his act what Republicans have known since 1998 at the earliest, and 2004 at the latest.
Winning those viewers back without a George W. Bush in the White House is going to be tough, whether or not Obama wins or loses this fall. So if more moderate Democrats aren’t going to watch and conservatives and Republicans definitely aren’t going to watch, Olby can only maintain or grow his ratings through that narrow base. Post-November, when political TV and radio show ratings will trend down (as the always do post-election), having such a narrow base means a bigger worry about ratings loss, unless he can hold the left’s attention by ginning up his manic hype even further.

Voted on Senate floor to kill amendment to prevent Social Security for illegal aliens in 2006
Sen. Obama voted in favor of a motion to table the Ensign amendment (SA 3985) to S. 2611, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 . The Ensign amendment (submitted for himself, Sen. Santorum, and Sen. Inhofe), would have prohibited the payment of Social Security benefits based on quarters of coverage earned by an individual who has not at some point had a valid Social Security number. This would have addressed part of the problem of aliens getting Social Security credit for work performed while they were illegally present in the United States (aliens who came in on temporary work visas, but overstayed their visas, would continue to get credit for all work performed, including after they became illegal). The motion to table the Ensign amendment passed by a vote of 50 to 49, effectively killing the amendment.

Keith Olbermann takes hypocrisy to a whole new level. He labels people like Michelle Malkin and President Bush as fascists, while at the same time he defends people such as Mahmoud Amidinajad and Hugo Chavez. He’s called Republicans terrorists, while at the same time he rails against the seeking and capture of actual terrorists.

For $600 bucks a year I get books/videos from the library, read milblogs (and hit their tip jars), and get documentaries on Netflix. We turned our cable off not too long ago and after the first week we didn’t miss it. A**hats like Olby are one reason why – along with all the usual suspects on CNNABCNBCCBS. Best of all – I have absolutely NO IDEA what the ParBritLindsey Bimbo Patrol is up to. Nor do I know who this week’s missing white woman is. And I haven’t seen any pointless car chases. Life is good.
As for Olby – smells like desperation to me. Pretty soon MSNBC is going to reach fewer households than the cable access show I directed for a few months.

aengus on May 29, 2008 at 5:07 AM
Well, certainly, when it comes to Olbermann… as an individual, Right wingers are more dangerous than Jiadists.
Look at it this way, if Olbermann lives outside of New York, Washington, or maybe LA, he has, what?… a one in a million of ever being even slightly, but directly, physically, injured by Jihadi…. a one in a .5 million chance of it if he lives in one of those three aforementioned cities.
But he has a 3 in 5 chance of a punch in the nose or in the gut if he ever runs into THIS ‘right winger’ while spouting his usual idiotic leftist tripe.
Now, sure, when around me, , normal people… even your average liberals are more likely to be protected by me, rather than harmed… But for olbermann and his ilk, I’ll gladly make an exception.

KO’s just a Max Headroom w 21st cent graphics, and he DOES serve a purpose. He’s a barometer for MSNBC/NBC/GE integrity and patriotism. As long as the KO program is running, we know that they’re not at all interested in serving this nation or in professional journalism. When they hit the little X at the top right corner of the KO program, then we’ll know they’ve had enough. My only question is this, “If the backround of the KO set were bright red, and he wore a big furry Russian hat…would anyone notice?”
scottm on May 29, 2008 at 7:45 AM
Keep fanning the flames of hate Keith. His rhetoric is now more closely approaching that of an Ahmadinejaid then it is what could even closely resemble any sort of reasoned analysis. When hate is all you have, you have nothing.
I never thought I would say this about that man but I now feel sorry for him. He has become so removed from reality, so vitriolic in his language, and so single minded in his pursuit of pretend enemies that he can not realise the real threats to American society. Threats that are omnipresent and real and unrelenting in their goals.
I hope we won’t have a front row seat to the final breakdown of this man. MSNBC needs to give him time off, away from news, internet, Blackberry or any of the other normal sources of information so that he can decompress and regain his perspective. Maybe a skiing trip to a remote spot or a guest spot on Survivor.
I just hope he gets the help he needs and the time to recover before something truly tragic happens live on TV.
