Over on the GOP side, John McCain is still being described as the "presumptive nominee", at least by CNN. For once, CNN are right. Neither McCain or Obama have <em>officially </em>secured their respective nominations. Obviously, there won't be any surprises in St. Paul; but Obama - the "One Man Gaffe Machine" - still has work to do. For the sake of Operation Chaos, Hillary needs to get her shit together. Once June 3rd is over, it’s really cheap to “keep hope alive” because all Hillary will be doing is calling superdelegates and appearing on various talk shows. Thus, I think the only way Hillary steps down before the convention is if she gets bought off, either with the VP ticket or with reimbursement of her campaign debt. Obama can’t do either without significantly weakening his chances in the general. But the longer Hillary stays in, the weaker he gets (and, candidly, the greater the chance is that Hillary will stage a last minute upset with the superdelegates, secret or otherwise).
