New Vets for Freedom ad: When are you going to meet with Petraeus, Obama?

posted at 1:40 pm on May 28, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

Not as pointed as the first ad, which wondered why he won’t meet with military commanders but will meet with any degenerate who can call himself a head of state, but the basic point remains. Fearless prediction: Obama will ultimately meet with Petraeus before the election. If he doesn’t have the stones to stand by his flag-pin boycott, he’s surely not going to let the GOP chip away at him on this. The more I think about it, the less I understand why he’d shy away from that meeting in the first place. Yes, it would force him to recognize the liberal heresy of progress in Iraq, but there are aspects of that which can be assimilated pretty cleanly into the left’s platform. It’s not like Petraeus is going to tell him everything’s sunshine and candy canes, either. They chat for an hour, Obama emerges and pays his obligatory lip service to the fine job our men and women are doing in this imperialist criminal endeavor, notes that he’s heartened by the prospect of further withdrawals, then laments that the Iraqi government still hasn’t made enough progress. Easy peasy. Figure a quickie two-day trip to Baghdad sometime in July.

Anyway. Viewing this, I’m reminded of what Hitch once wrote about Ayaan Hirsi Ali: “I never know whether or not it’s right to mention, with female public figures, the fact of arresting and hypnotizing beauty, but I notice that I seem to have done so.” So too here. Good lord.

Petraeus isn’t a dictator looking for nukes, so why would Obama meet with him?

loganthompson on May 28, 2008 at 1:43 PM

… and when will you meet, one on one, unconditionally, with General Petraeus?

Oh, snap.

wise_man on May 28, 2008 at 1:45 PM

Hussein will meet and have cookies with the Generals after the nomination.

Once it’s secured, the Democrats will have no other choice and he can do whatever he wants, including meeting with Osama.

I think America is still sleeping.

Not surprisingly, a dirty bomb or a biological attack from Al-Qaeda on the Homeland maybe can wake people up, if not too late.

Hussein is as dangeous as Al-Qaeda is.

But, to whom I’m talking?

Idiots!

Indy Conservative on May 28, 2008 at 1:47 PM

Gen Patraeus is an American hero so why would Obama want to meet with him.

Mojack420 on May 28, 2008 at 1:47 PM

Until Petraeus is willing to sit back and listen to The Messiah tell him what’s going on in Iraq, I don’t see what a meeting could accomplish.

It’s pretty clear that Osama Obama hears one Voice only: his own. Sometimes, he speaks through Michelle or Wright….

He only meets with terrorist states unconditionally, not our Generals.

Chakra Hammer on May 28, 2008 at 1:53 PM

Buraq Obama is “the best and the brightest.” He obviously has all the facts he needs on every topic — witness his laser-like intellect as he discusses the leadership structure in Iran, the Kennedy – Kruschev Summit in Vienna, the number of states in the United States, the purpose of Memorial Day, the status of the nuclear clean-up at Hanford, the location of Nazi concentration camps.

What could Petraeus possibly have to tell him that he doesn’t know?

Cicero43 on May 28, 2008 at 1:54 PM

I saw something about him refusing to meet Veterans from Illinois! I think he hates the military more then Hillary, if that’s possible.

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on May 28, 2008 at 1:54 PM

Obama may think he may not have to meet with Petreaus.

Why? Because IF he gets elected… he can get rid of Petreaus… that is one thing that the President can do is Fire his Generals.

Think about it. If Obama met with Petreaus, and Petreaus is not the type of guy you “jerk around”, Petreaus is going to read through the BS and not hold back on what he thinks about Obama.

Word of warning Obama…. some people aren’t going to go with your Hope and Change flow!

Indy Conservative on May 28, 2008 at 1:47 PM

I’m pretty sure if a dirty bomb or biological weapon hits the US, then it is, by definition, too late.

Obama is just guessing when it comes to Foreign Policy, he’s just hoping the media wont ask about it. So far they’ve obliged him.

apollyonbob on May 28, 2008 at 1:58 PM

First of all….easy peasy? Who are you? Jamie Oliver?

Second…..my guess is that he makes a July 4 visit without flags.

James on May 28, 2008 at 1:59 PM

Obama doesn’t support our military or its efforts in Iraq. He’s for surrender just like Pelosi and Reid. I don’t look for him to meet with Petraeus because Obama can’t handle the truth.

katieanne on May 28, 2008 at 2:06 PM

Obama to Petraeus: “Nice to see you, general. Did anyone tell you that you look like a typical white person?”

apollyonbob on May 28, 2008 at 1:58 PM

See, I’m not even sure a dirty bomb or a biological attack on the Homeland can even be too late for people to wake up and realize the danger.

We became a nation of sissies, politically correct, rotten to the bone, taking life for granted.

We don’t have the guts to call a spade a spade.

Even after millions of us killed by Al-Qaeda, our government will be nice to the Muslims and will flee their leaders out of America in the dark of the night.

We became a nation of cowards.

Jaibones on May 28, 2008 at 2:23 PM

Great ads.

What Obama doesn’t seem to realize is that even if he wouldn’t concede anything in “uncoditional” meetings with the likes of Ahmadinejad and Chavez, he’d still be helping them pull off their own political stunts.

Big S on May 28, 2008 at 2:26 PM

It’s ironic how a self-absorbed empty suit like Obama — a former “community activist” — can see himself as fit to command truly accomplished men like Gen. Petraeus. He should be embarrassed to even be in Petraeus’ presence.

Appeals to conscience or even common sense to anyone on the left, especially a standard bearer like Obama, are pointless – because they want us to lose. When will our side understand this? Making America lose wars is the utmost dream of the left, it’s their Nirvana. Stop with the useless appeals to their hearts and minds.

Obama has to go back to Iraq for a second time. I predict he will. It’s just a matter when he will choose to go and how he will explain that he had planned to to back even before the McCain invitation and ads such as this.

He will say something like…”I have been planning this trip for a long time and it has nothing to do with the politcal pressure that I have received lately…Becasue of the rigors of the campaign I have not been able to make it happen. But now that I am the presumptive nominee I intend to visit Iraq to evaluate the situation as it stands today and report back to my supporters. I would personally like to invite John McCain to make the trip with me as I value his experience in these matter even though we may disagree on some of the particulars. I am not reading this from a teleprompter

Nelsa on May 28, 2008 at 3:10 PM

Like I’ve asked before, do you think Obama will look handsome in his new Commander-In-Chief uniform? Especially, after he has spent some time getting his “change” poses correctly for the camera. It’s just words.

Travis1 on May 28, 2008 at 3:16 PM

I feel so sorry for our military when hc come to ‘visit’ them in Iraq. The look on their faces don’t look warm and fuzzy. They know she can’t stand them and she would cut in run in a heart beat. They have to endure her. They will have to do the same if bho comes to Iraq. Thank God most of our military know what hc and bho think of them. I just hope their votes are going to be counted in the Nov. election.

pretty strong, but I’d quibble and say poorly edited and shot…
“This Iraqi veteran?” no.. she’s a “veteran of the Iraq war..” Sh’es not an Iraqi…

and the constant “EYE-raq” mispronunciation (I know, it’s common but still wrong) … it makes her sound less authoritative…
that said, i completely agree with the thrust of the ad… and hopefully it will thrust another nail into Obama’s campaign (not his Messianic hands or feet! :0

The left would be distraught with a meeting of Obama and Gen Petraeus. Plus, like Obama said in the ABC debate when he is CIC he will be calling the shots from DC, not the Officers in Irag. No need for Obama to have any contact with anyone who is connected to the current mission for victory.

I guarantee if we are attacked Obama will make Bush look like he was asleep during the past 8 years in violating peoples rights. (I don’t believe Bush has, but using their claim to illustrate a point)

One thing I know about liberals, they will surrender everything for safety. Oh, they got pissed off over the feds listening in on calls made by AQ into America, but If Obama gets into power and an attack happens you wont be able to call Dominos and order a pizza without being listened in on.

RobertInAustin on May 28, 2008 at 4:36 PM

Saying “EYE-rack” instead of “EAR-rawk” is no more disqualifying than saying “Cara-BE-an” instead of “Ca-RIB-bian.”

I say EYE-rack too, so what? It doesn’t mean I know less about it than somebody who pronounces it the British way. Anybody who’s ever been there knows more about it than I do regardless of how they say it because I’ve never been. Experience. THAT’S what makes you knowledgable, not which syllable you emphasis.

If Obama were even in the same building with Petraeus, MoveOn would go ballistic. The only way he could recover from such a meeting in the eyes of his base would be to come out and and call the general an uninformed tool of the Bush war machine. And then he’d look…uninformed…himself.

eeyore on May 28, 2008 at 5:33 PM

Strong women with looks like that turn me in into a liberal. (Nonsensical babbling, purely illogical, emotional subjective ramblings, etc.)
