Video: Mary Katharine Ham vs. Juan Williams on Michelle Obama and the Clintons’ whining

A substantive political segment (well, sort of), opposite one of Fox’s most high-profile contributors, no less? Good lord. Is Bill finally starting to take our “little lady” seriously? And to think, it only took a year.

Consensus verdict: It’s open season on the Bride of Messiah. Split decision: Whether the media really has been unfair to the Clintons. Ed made the valuable point this morning, and MK repeats it here, that the press was perfectly respectful when she was the frontrunner. Only when Obama pulled the upset in Iowa and proved she was beatable did the pile on begin — which, as longtime HA readers may remember, had been prophesied. I’d cap this with a reminder about what payback is, but using that particular word word within 100 yards of Hillary even if it’s not aimed at her is apparently grounds for a sexism charge, so instead I’ll simply direct you here to illustrate just how feeble the whining’s become.

Big Brown will show this week. HA the place to go for conventional insight.

O’Reilly is wrong; Bill Clinton does help his wife by the whining because it consolidates women who feel marginalized by the system.

And that’s a nice complement to MKH. Something not frivolous, and Mr. Williamns is a smart guy.

Spirit of 1776 on May 27, 2008 at 10:12 PM

Heh. Bill talks for 4 mins. The final 1 1/2 min is mostly Juan w/ a little MKH. Bad time allotment in my opinion.

VolMagic on May 27, 2008 at 10:17 PM

Michelle needs to man-up. You can either be a Laura Bush (my personal preference for a first lady)or a major player. If you are a player you don’t get to be a lady victim. I don’t think she’s smart enough to be a player so she will be a net minus for him. Doubtless, she will throw a pity party or herself over it.

It’s the first time I really enjoyed a snippet of Bill O’Reilly’s show. If O’Reilly were like this all the time, I would like his show.

thuja on May 27, 2008 at 10:20 PM

Bill O is SOOOO annoying. MKH was awesome (as always) and Juan had some strong points too (pretty rare for Juan if you watch FNS every week).

malan89 on May 27, 2008 at 10:20 PM

One of the few times MKH has been able to string more then seven words together before I-O’Reilly cuts her off.

Weird year when I find myself wanting to know what Williams says and reach for the clicker when George Will shows up.

Is there a cure, or must I wait for National Health Care to offer me the hemlock?

Limerick on May 27, 2008 at 10:23 PM

Juan made a mistake when he said Clinton would have been the first woman president. He forgot the Carter Administration.

P.S. I get why Bill says some of the crazy things he does. It’s for the eye rolls. *rawr*

I wish Bill would pay ME to talk, but never let me do so. I’d get paid anyways, right?

It’s kinda like if a pundit were to appear on O’Reilly would they make a sound. Or what’s the sound of one talking head debating. Or which got the last word the chicken or the O’Reilly .

But he actually didn’t do that bad this time.

MirCat on May 27, 2008 at 10:44 PM

There’s Something About Mary (Katharine Ham). When I see her smile, I feel like everything will be all right somehow with our country. MKH for Prez!!

Given his personality type I would say you would not only get paid but you would likely receive a very nice bonus.

Sigy on May 27, 2008 at 10:47 PM

Big question – now that MKH is leaving townhall and is going to the Washington Examiner, is that going to impact her appearances on O’Reilly???

And yes, I agree totally with AP that it’s wonderful that she’s finally being given an opportunity to talk serious politics, rather than simply being interrupted by an O’Reilly rant about porn (as scantily clad women from a Youtube video du jour dance around on the B Roll)…

Agreed. His show used to be great, but it jumped the shark when he started devoting half his segments to tabloid news and old celebrity bios.

I have really changed my opinion about Juan Williams. Not just from this segment but for awhile now, as I listen, he states things very logically, and I find myself agreeing with him.

As far as Barack’s defense of his wife in that interview–I have a very hard time just listening to it. We heard what she said, there is nothing for Barack to defend. You say the things that she has said, you are going to hear about it. It came across as so anti-American, there is no excuse in the world for me to hear it any other way, and I do believe many others except Obama supporters, would agree.

What O’Reilly saw in his teleprompter:

Am I the only one out there who thinks a show where MKH and Juan Williams talk shop wouldn’t be far more interesting than whatever else is on that currently passes for a decent news commentary show?

I suppose this hasn’t happened yet because, what, it makes too much sense?

Am I crazy?

Tman on May 28, 2008 at 1:44 AM

which, as longtime HA readers may remember, had been prophesied. -AP

Well, at least the noble and magnanimous AP can bask in the vindication of his prophesy without a suggestion to Convert!

Sometimes. But still, it wasn’t long ago on FNS when Juan was shocked – shocked I say [and aghast!], sputtering protestations – when someone suggested that NPR was liberal !

eeyore on May 28, 2008 at 1:58 AM

If they truly are just snippets that misrepresent Michelle O., let them play the part of those speeches that show how wrong her critics are. Until then I’m quite comfortable with characterizations of her as whiny, self-involved and unpatriotic.

snaggletoothie on May 28, 2008 at 2:06 AM

Color me confused also. For weeks on end now, I’ve been nodding my head in agreement practically every time Juan Williams opens his mouth. I mean, really intelligent words keep coming out of it. Weird!

As far as MKH goes, I agree that she’s ready for the big time…once she gets a decent haircut. Until then, it ain’t gonna happen.

grits on May 28, 2008 at 3:02 AM

I hate to bring this up but at 33 seconds Bill says

“as for Senator Obama, he’s mad at some critics for hammering his wife”.

I almost broke out into a 5 min. laughing spasm. Ok, I know what he meant but you would think he could have rephrased that. Was that Bill off the cuff or was that actually written on the TelePrompTer? Who does proof reading at Fox anyway?

Dollayo on May 28, 2008 at 4:24 AM

Allah, in that same article, you also prophesied a Mitt or Rudy candidacy. Ahhh, those were the days…

mpbk on May 28, 2008 at 4:28 AM

Bill Clinton:
“She IS winning the general election today…..”

Someone might want to ask him what his current definition of “IS” is….

I thought he said before that “IS” means in this current moment…at this particular instance in time.

We need to ask him to clarify….it IS really hard to not be as smart as a Clinton

Dpet on May 28, 2008 at 6:37 AM

How about we send Bill O on vacation for a week and have MKH fill in for him?

I would record every show, because MKH rocks!

pilamaye on May 28, 2008 at 7:34 AM

A substantive political segment (well, sort of)

Thank you, Allah, for the “(well, sort of)” caveat. I don’t think you can get away with calling any exchange that includes the phrase, “Gallant? This is what they used to do in King Arthur’s court” a “substantive political segment.” Maybe I’m alone, but Bill’s delivery of that line kind of cracked me up.

Also:

I lost respect for BO after he let Heraldo dump on Michelle Malkin. I dont think I’ve watched his show since then.

“O’Reilly is wrong; Bill Clinton does help his wife by the whining because it consolidates women who feel marginalized by the system.”
They love Billy, always have. He reminds them of their husbands, fathers and grandfathers who were slick and ‘charming’ womanizers. It’s part of the psychological need to protect the perpetrators. The ‘feminists’ ‘love’ him too, probably for the same reason–and that he’s a pro-abortion Demo.
Whether Billy really wants Hilly to win is another story…

Christine on May 28, 2008 at 11:54 AM

I ditto on the ditto. O’Reilly should be running the greatest show on earth, not a ‘mega-star’ on FNC. Horealdo would fit in quite well in the freak show tent.

Christine on May 28, 2008 at 11:56 AM

Should be..not running his big fat mouth as a ‘mega-star’…
