Nuance: New McCain ad features woman wearing … Obama t-shirt

Via Ben Smith. Here’s the video in case you want to check it yourself; most of the decal is obscured but the talismanic “O”, symbol of hope, change, and reasonably priced Whole Foods arugula, is clearly visible. Note to Maverick: While the idea of competing for every vote is sound in principle, time is likely wasted when spent on people wearing the other guy’s merchandise.

Exit question via Smith: What percentage of the black vote will McCain earn in November? Bush pulled 11% in 2004 but Obama’s already routinely winning 90+ against Hillary Clinton. Is 95% out of the question? I don’t think it’ll be quite that bad, but it might be close…

Ineptitude, thy name is McCain.

Zorro on May 27, 2008 at 8:00 PM

Nice catch, ad guys…Oy.

amerpundit on May 27, 2008 at 8:02 PM

Man, are they taking volunteers for campaign ad editors? I think they’ve got a mole from the Obama camp on their staff.

Hannibal Smith on May 27, 2008 at 8:02 PM

Somebody just got fired in the McCain camp.

Maxx on May 27, 2008 at 8:03 PM

McCain will pull 4% or less in the black vote.

Voters that see themselves as ‘Black’ first will vote Obama, conservatives that happen to be black will have to hold their nose to vote for McCain. I believe that those that can actually do it will be less than 4% of the ‘black vote’.

Voidseeker on May 27, 2008 at 8:10 PM

Probably easier then talking the HA McNos.

Limerick on May 27, 2008 at 8:11 PM

Gee, my T-shirt has Fred Thompson on it and I’m not voting for Juan either. What’s the big deal?

nivram1 on May 27, 2008 at 8:22 PM

Is it possible (no matter how slim the chance) that it could be a parody shirt? When I first saw this a few hours ago (on Kos, I’m ashamed to admit) he mentioned it could very well be a parody. Maybe.

Maxx on May 27, 2008 at 8:03 PM

Hell, someon just got PROMOTED in the McCain camp.
Shows his “reaching across the aisle” persona, you know.
Next thing you know, he’ll be guest blogging on Daily Kos.

McCain and his idiot campaign staffers are living in a sort of political “Bizarro World”. They all suck the Dems derrieres harder than remoras on sharks.
As far as us conservatives go, they wish we would simply absentee vote for McCain, then go curl up and quietly die somewhere.

TexasJew on May 27, 2008 at 8:27 PM

It flashes by so quickly, I couldn’t even tell what the shirt was. I don’t think this is a very big deal.

WisCon on May 27, 2008 at 8:29 PM

It’s simple…It was meant to imply that Obama voters are coming over to the McCain camp.

bard on May 27, 2008 at 8:33 PM

I think you got a point there bard

ArmyAunt on May 27, 2008 at 8:36 PM

Is 95% out of the question?

No, not at all. It’s only a gain of about 5% and Obambi is the first black candidate with an actual chance of winning. How many of the 10% of Black Voters that the Pubs get are hard core Conservatives and how many are Swing Voters? All it takes is for half of ‘em to swing to the other side.

Tony737 on May 27, 2008 at 8:37 PM

I suppose we should be thankful McCain wasn’t wearing an Obama T-shirt in his own ad.

saint kansas on May 27, 2008 at 8:48 PM

FAIL

doubleplusundead on May 27, 2008 at 8:52 PM

If Obama ran an ad with someone wearing a McCain shirt, half the people here would get in a snit about that.

Buford Gooch on May 27, 2008 at 8:55 PM

Campaign Management used to be a fine art. Those days are over.

baldilocks on May 27, 2008 at 8:55 PM

Well, to give them credit. They did search for five days for someone they could film with a McCain shirt on, but the only ones they could find were wearing these shirts.

McCain, wrong for Republicans, Wrong for Conservatives, wrong for America.

And of those few who would never in a million years think about voting for someone like Obama (like me), how many are considering not voting at all be cause of McCain’s RINOism?

baldilocks on May 27, 2008 at 8:57 PM

An ad agency trick on McCain?

I don’t know. If one has to think about the tactic’s message too much, it’s not a good tactic.

doubleplusundead on May 27, 2008 at 8:52 PM

Succint. Accurate. Funny.

Perfect.

Rhinoboy on May 27, 2008 at 9:00 PM

It’s deeply admirably to try to convince your opponents by argument. McCain show greatness for this ad and for talking to the Obama supporter.

There are times when you just feel like giving up. In fact, I just posted on another topic that there comes a point when I’m not willing to engage with the rabid jump off the cliff right-wing (just as I wouldn’t waste my breathe on Chomsky fan). Maybe, I should have the energy of McCain and he’s like twice my age.

You know, if McCain loses in November, and I honestly hope he does. We will be seeing St. John of the McAmnesty movement first in line to promise to work with the elected President. Hell, John will probably become a true Democrat instead of a RINO.

Snake307 on May 27, 2008 at 9:02 PM

Bipartisan, for shizzle.

Excellent!
That statement was more true than even truthyness.
McCain in a nutshell. The rest is commentary…

TexasJew on May 27, 2008 at 9:30 PM

Exit question via Smith: What percentage of the black vote will McCain earn in November?

Is one to assume Obama is the democrat party nominee? If so, 8%. If not, 20%.

I’ve had a mysterious vision after I ate some spring mushrooms in my backyard this evening…
After the election, McCain (who gets his sorry ass kicked by a ridiculous third-rate multiracial spam mailer), Chuck Hagel and Lincoln Chafee will biologically merge into a large multinucleated cellular mass like a slime mold.

This strange biotic conglomeration will be classified by mycologists as a unique “McHagelFee” and it will be as blue as the sky (of course).

Of course, there will be no visible cephalic structure in this strange creature, since those three are each as stupid as a pile of goat clusters.

A word of advice - stay away from the spring mushrooms (and brown acid).
This damn election is enough of a bad trip as it is!!

TexasJew on May 27, 2008 at 9:49 PM

f*** it.
McCain ‘08

sulla on May 27, 2008 at 9:52 PM

This is a message from John McCain:

“My friends, Senator Obama and myself have been friends in the Senate for many years now. We may have differences in issues such as skin color and race but we share a common goal which is being ‘President of the United States.’

“I urge my fellow Republicans and Conservatives to join my outreach to the other side and embrace Senator Obama with grace and openness and vote for him in droves.”

“My friends, this country cannot afford an old fart like myself. We need new blood and Senator Obama not only represent this new blood, but a Black blood.”

“My friends, Ronald Reagan negotiated with the Soviet Union and won the Cold War, by the same token, Republicans need to wear an Obama T-Shirt and sing “Hallelujah to the Lamb of God.”

“Finally my friends, please go on my website:

http://www.Support-Obama.com and donate everything you own.”

“And don’t forget to buy my Obama gear. I have included a huge collection of the famous “O” T-Shirt and an incredible collection of underwears carrying the picture of Senator Obama’s father who liberated the Jews from Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II.”

“Thank you my friends. And may Allah bless our next president Barack Hussein Obama.”

Oh for Chrisake people, it is a Tshirt.

Terrye on May 27, 2008 at 10:09 PM

When I was slogging through dkos this was on the front page. There was a mention that it could have been a fake Obama shirt, but who knows.

BadgerHawk on May 27, 2008 at 10:39 PM

Maybe McCain wants to be assured a spot in Bambi’s cabinet.

Obama’s self-immolation will cause about 25% of blacks to vote for McCain by November.

Barry is a festering embarrassment, and grows more rancid daily.
