The “joke” happened yesterday, the inevitable apology followed this morning. You’ll find both below. J$ makes the case that, viewed in context, it’s absurd to think she wishes ill on Obama: The “joke” comes in the course of knocking Hillary for her “outright lies,” her “race-baiting,” and her own moronic RFK comment from Friday touching on the “radioactive” subject of assassination. I’m giving you the whole segment so you can judge for yourself; the money quote comes at around 1:20. J$’s logic makes sense, but I honestly have no idea what she meant if she didn’t mean that.
Look on the bright side: It’s nice to see the left properly outraged at the prospect of assassination instead of treating it as a subject for entertainment. Exit nuance: The lefty site in highest dudgeon over Trotta is HuffPo, a.k.a. death-wish central.

What a stupid thing to say.
Who is Liz Trotta?
MayBee on May 26, 2008 at 1:16 PM
I think when she said “Both”, she just meant to acknowledge her slip on Osama. The topic of Obama and assassination was already established, so when she slipped with “Osama”, I think she was just kind of saying, “Oh yeah, him too.” Clumsy, but I doubt it means much.

You got very smart people that is currently acting very dumb at this moment.
jdun on May 26, 2008 at 1:24 PM
Call me humorless (Mister please) but assassination jokes usually don’t work.
Although immediately after JFK’s death, Monynihan reportedly responded to DeGaulle after DeGaulle said that he too had been shot at twice but the shooter missed, that “Well, I guess Americans are better shots.”
Guess you had to be there.
SteveMG on May 26, 2008 at 1:25 PM
Oops the old confusion of the Osama/Obama names crops up again, lots of people have made that mistake. Her apology seemed sincere.

Lefty Hypocrisy stinks.
President Bush was fair game, others NOT?

“Well, both would be good.” (Osama and Obama.)
What an ass.
Hashish popular in their inner circles?
profitsbeard on May 26, 2008 at 1:32 PM
Exit question:
Who has more potential to damage the USA, Obama or Osama?
jgapinoy on May 26, 2008 at 1:35 PM
c) The American people (if they allow it)
SteveMG on May 26, 2008 at 1:36 PM
This is not a PC question, so Shame. On. You.
Aristotle on May 26, 2008 at 1:38 PM
Here’s the deal, you’ve got Lincoln, Garfield, and Kennedy, right? Then the presidents who were wounded like TR and Reagan. Or narrowly escaped crazies like Ford of all people. Nixon was pretty safe but a Manson girl goes after Ford. And those are just off the top of my head, the major famous events. I’m sure the Secret Service has an entire file just for Kos and HuffPo.
And of course RFK killed in 1968 running for president. Sorry if that historical fact offends anyone.
You can see how some people associate presidents with bullets.
Beagle on May 26, 2008 at 1:38 PM
Another exit question….
If Obama wins, does that make the US an Obama Nation?
CynicalOptimist on May 26, 2008 at 1:41 PM
Just words.
jgapinoy on May 26, 2008 at 1:42 PM
She was trying to ad-lib a little humor which is typically safe territory for only a small group of professional comedians. Crash, burn then sincerely apologize. I’ll buy it. Notice that the word “if” was NOT in her apology. If one says “if” then chalk it up to “a non-apology apology.”

The left IS obsessed with death. Rush is right!
SouthernGent on May 26, 2008 at 1:51 PM
I’d like to see some of you go on cable tv and speak perfectly with no mistakes.. and when you do make a stupid mistake.. be sure to recover from it flawlessly while trying to regain your thoughts.
When did everyone become so stupid?

So you acknowledge that she made a gaffe?
Which she admits and has apologized for.
SteveMG on May 26, 2008 at 1:54 PM
She’s a complete nitwit to joke about it as a positive though. That’s the most tone deaf political analyst since Kerry reported for duty. Did she know she was on TV?
Beagle on May 26, 2008 at 1:54 PM
What? The real outrage is that she accidently called him Osama! At least his middle name was left out of the controversy.
Jay on May 26, 2008 at 1:56 PM
First of all, HRC ‘logic’ falls way short. If she dropped out (it would have to be over HER dead body) and then Obama was assassinated, she would immediately be the nominee. So, it goes back to the theory that she is incapable of dropping out.
As far as Trotta’s comment goes, it’s not as bad as what HRC said, but I don’t go as far as to agree that HRC really said that she wished that some gun-toting, knuckle-dragging, VRWConpirator take a shot at Obama, she just implied it–if you dig deeper, and there are plenty of deeper meanings in Her utterances, subconscious or not.
Trotta nailed Herself but wouldn’t an x-ray of a very dark soul be blinding to the eye? Yes, and it truly is. This is why I listen rather than look upon Her dark Cowntenance.
Christine on May 26, 2008 at 2:08 PM
You say tomayto, I say Osama…
sulla on May 26, 2008 at 2:13 PM
I am now waiting for Bubba Billy to come riding to Shillary’s rescue, saying the whole thing was just a joke!
Hey, did you hear the one about the Democratic Presidential candidate who was hoping her rival Democratic opponent would get knocked off sometime in June?
Notice there is no punchline?
Notice this isn’t funny?
Neither was what Shillary said.
pilamaye on May 26, 2008 at 2:38 PM
Hillary merely pointed out that RFK was assassinated in June 1968; Trotta said she hoped both Osama and Obama get whacked. Trotta’s remarks were far more offensive. But she isn’t running for president, and I’m certain she didn’t mean what she said. With Hillary, you never know.
When I remind my Liberal friends about, let’s say, Randi Rhodes “jokes” about Bush being killed, they come back with “she isn’t running for prez.” Well, neither is Trotta.
This election year is unique in so many ways; chief among them is that liberal hypocracy is being exposed on a daily basis.
infidel65 on May 26, 2008 at 2:42 PM
Anyone recall that Vincent Bugliosi quote where he said that he regularly (semi-regularly?) heard associates ask “Why doesn’t someone put a bullet in Bush’s head”?
Hmm….
SteveMG on May 26, 2008 at 2:49 PM
I am so weary. This is the year of the apology. Well, except for Obama - because he can make gaffes daily and can associate with unsavory people (racists and criminals) and never have to explain or apologize. We could put an end to unemployment by signing everyone up for the thought police.
HawaiiLwyr on May 26, 2008 at 2:50 PM
Obama, Osama or your mama?
The Race Card on May 26, 2008 at 3:02 PM
From Huffpo:
Every time one of you strident pr*cks feels the need to call a sitting US Senator by the name of our greatest named enemy, think about it.
But my words won’t make a dent. Because your struggle with race is more engaging than your regard for your party and ultimately your country.
I hope when Sen. Barack Hussein Obama becomes President Barack Hussein Obama, you have enough jokes to tide us all over til about 2016.
The Race Card on May 26, 2008 at 3:10 PM
“WELL.. BOTH IF WE COULD?”
Wow! She said:
“WELL.. BOTH IF WE COULD?”
TheSitRep on May 26, 2008 at 3:14 PM
Appropriate sobriquet, I’d say.
SteveMG on May 26, 2008 at 3:17 PM
Four comments in at HuffPo and we get:
Yeah, I don’t want them assassinated, I just want them to die. Yeesh.
VolMagic on May 26, 2008 at 3:17 PM
.
Right, because if Obama was white we wouldn’t be opposing him.
We don’t oppose him because of his naive belief that he will be able to personally persuade these tyrants that they’re wrong. Or because he’s an extreme liberal that will expand government far beyond its proper roles.
No, we oppose him because of his race.
Race card indeed.
SteveMG on May 26, 2008 at 3:30 PM
Who was this dumb broad?
Good god…Fox needs to crack down on who it brings on its network.

Chakra Hammer on May 26, 2008 at 3:56 PM
Yeah, that Ted Kennedy is a real pr*ck:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=APx2YJ-_jos
As well as CNN reporters:
http://hotair.com/archives/2007/12/17/video-cnn-anchor-calls-obama-osama/
VolMagic on May 26, 2008 at 3:56 PM
Yes, but those are mistakes.
When we do it (or someone on “our” side) it’s a deliberate attempt to connect Bin Laden with Senator Obama.
Remember, Rove ordered us to do this. I guess you missed the meeting?
SteveMG on May 26, 2008 at 4:07 PM
Tries to cover up a tired Obama-Osama flub with a shoot ‘em both super flub.
What a total a**hole.
Are we supposed to believe that people are so fu**ing stupid that they can’t keep their brain in order and say Obama when they’re talking about Obama? Are they actually thinking of Osama at that instant? It’s beyond stupid that this is still happening.
Dave Rywall on May 26, 2008 at 4:12 PM
Yeah, it conflicted with my Zionist-cabal meeting. Priorities, you know.
VolMagic on May 26, 2008 at 4:13 PM
So you think Ted Kennedy was smearing Obama with the Osama link?
SteveMG on May 26, 2008 at 4:17 PM
The BHO problem
1. Calling an African American adult by his first name is demeaning
2. Using his middle name is radioactive racism
3. Oboma/Osama is a easy mistake
Solution: Let’s call him Junior
tmitsss on May 26, 2008 at 4:35 PM
tmitmss - nobody uses anybody’s middle name.
The only reason people say Hussein for Obama is to make the stupid unwashed masses say HEY OH MY GOD HE’S ONE OF ‘EM! HE GOTS THE SAME NAME AS SADDAM!
It’s obnoxious, it’s unnecessary, it’s childish.
Next.
Dave Rywall on May 26, 2008 at 5:21 PM
She was the very first female reporter to go to Vietnam. She has 100 times more integrity than either Hillary or Obama combined.
She gets a pass in my book.

“It’s a very colorful political season…”
Gee, I wonder what she meant by THAT?
Tuning Spork on May 26, 2008 at 6:30 PM
LOL. Funny how Barry gets the black Dems and Repubs. Hell, he gets the whole AA vote. The Race Card indeed.
JiangxiDad on May 26, 2008 at 6:35 PM
Liz Trotta was reporting from the Jungles of Vietnam when
B. Insane Obama was in diapers. She’s an excellent
jornalist and commentator.
Liz is one of the few that makes me stop and listen.

Texyank on May 26, 2008 at 7:12 PM
I listened to the 1st video and it sounded to me like she was talking about Hillary, which was her point until she said Osama, then said “both”, referring back to what Hillary wanted, not her.
Sue on May 26, 2008 at 7:15 PM
Knock them both off if we could!
I honestly believe Liz Trotta, who I’ve never seen on
Fox as a contributor,was joking.And again a bad joke
tho.
Here’s the problem,as a Republican joking about Presidential
assasinations,it just doesn’t look good, but then on the
otherhand its Hillary who started this wild fire!
canopfor on May 26, 2008 at 7:30 PM
But isn’t amazing that they just won’t stop?
AprilOrit on May 26, 2008 at 7:34 PM
Talk aboput routinely being stuck on stupid.
And still being allowed to vote, it’s almost criminal.
AprilOrit on May 26, 2008 at 8:05 PM
Now that was an apology. Take note Hillary
Dpet on May 26, 2008 at 8:32 PM
We’re sorry. This video is no longer available.
pabarge on May 26, 2008 at 8:42 PM
Who out there isn’t hoping Osama gets killed!
oceansidecon on May 26, 2008 at 8:59 PM
The “Hussein” reference (which I agree is pretty stupid) is not a reference to race but a reference to Islam. Obama attended a madrassa in his youth. Your words won’t make a dent because its not a racial issue and you’re barking up the wrong tree.
aengus on May 26, 2008 at 9:20 PM
I like Liz Trotta. She’s a smart, savvy lady, and much wiser than most.
Connie on May 26, 2008 at 10:24 PM
Bob Barr is the only answer that will make Republicans pull up their panties. He will give Barack the margin he needs and Repubs will still sit around b*tt-thumbing each other.
We’re gonna lose and we need it. We need to recalibrate, refocus and retire some of the dead wood.
We have a good squad on deck. We just can’t let go of the old turds.

@ all idiots who can’t see past my screen name:
Blame me and my username for the coming shitstorm. Blame identity politics and the MSM for our future throttling. That’s swift…swift like Kerry in Christmas of 68. I don’t mind playing foil in your tragedy of errors.
Karl Rove won’t take the blame; I will.
I need to wash my hands, this post has been a bit scatty.
The Race Card on May 26, 2008 at 11:33 PM
FTFM.
That is to say that some of you are so damaged and stretched so thin over issues of race that you really can’t discuss anything rationally. One day the light bulb will come on and you’ll understand my username.
Until then, I will field your insults, parry, retort then relax ad infinitum.
The Race Card on May 26, 2008 at 11:56 PM
I question the timing!

You have an ego problem. Marginally and newly Republican, you came in to teach us a lesson. You are unwilling to consider that we could teach you one.
Connie on May 27, 2008 at 12:19 AM
I have an ego, ergo I have a problem. Blame Freud.
As far as you teaching me lessons, thanks. I’ve learned a lot. Your words and examples will prove invaluable down the road.
As far as me teaching you lessons…never. Impossible. I still get a kick out of the whiffs you guys take at my knuckleballs.
***
Marginally and newly Republican
You know nothing about me except that I refuse to regurgitate KoolAid partisan bilge.
What does marginally Republican mean? I would suggest that the current platform, spending habits and party pussification is marginally Republican. Our border fence is marginally Republican.
And newly Republican…I guess. I never cared about voting until I voted Republican. I could not tell you for whom I voted in the past until I voted for GWB. I’m pretty sure I’ve voted once in my life to impress a girl. So, I guess I’m guilty of whatever your insult implies.
Perhaps you could clarify so as to accentuate your superiority.
The Race Card on May 27, 2008 at 2:41 AM
As per Bush, T-shirts accompany Hollywood movie shows to promote the idea in the heads of goons WHILE HE’S IN OFFICE.
The hububb now is all just nasty talk. RFK was assassinated, that is a fact, though not as POTUS. Hillary did NOT bring up Obama’s name during the entire dialogue regarding her OWN campaign timing and duration. It is the MSM that promoted this entire mess, beginning with the early start to campaigns prior to Christmas, and now pushing the buttons to nip off Hillary’s end.
As per Hillary, she bated the onslaught that now plagues her. This is the vast left-wing conspiracy at work eating their momma.
Assassination + Hillary = TBA
maverick muse on May 27, 2008 at 7:37 AM
The Kennedy family has chosen to HEAVILY involve itself in this POTUS campaign, unlike any previous involvement on their part for anyone else to date. THAT, however, does not make Obama any more than Obama. In other words, Obama ain’t no Kennedy.
If anyone were actually aligning the assassination remark with Obama, then define how his situation parallels RFK’s experience the final June of life campaigning in CA? Who actually assassinated RFK, and on what grounds would one presume that the same political Islamic terrorist force would bring harm to Obama since Obama enjoys their endorsement?
The hullabaloo is all stupid. Blame it on global warming.
maverick muse on May 27, 2008 at 7:47 AM
.
I think she was humorously putting words in Hillary’s mouth, not suggesting that she herself wanted it.
Think_b4_speaking on May 27, 2008 at 9:05 AM
“Newly Republican” was how you described yourself months ago and you have done little else but lecture posters at Hot Air since you arrived. One of your original statements was that Republicans have a race problem and you implied that it is our fault. You offer no solutions to this “problem.” It’s very tiresome. What I would consider helpful would be for you to be working to convince blacks that conservative values make sense. I have absolutely no way of knowing if you are attempting to do that elsewhere in the blogosphere or in real life. You are in a unique position and you can be a bridge and an integral part of the solution or you can perpetuate the problem. Your choice.
Connie on May 27, 2008 at 9:57 AM
I watched the Libertarian Convention over the weekend and not all Libertarians are happy with an ex Neo Con as their candidate. I suppose they will all be writing in Ron Paul or Dr. Mary.
AprilOrit on May 27, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Are your delicate liberal sensibilities offended? Boo freakin hoo.
Believing that she was referring to anything other than in the political sense is absurd.
