I believe that Quayle was given the improper spelling by the spelling bee officials (it was spelled incorrectly on the card he was given). Yet he will never live that one down. Wrong city? I can believe it on these crazy camapaign tours. Fifty seven states? That can not be attributed to anything other than not being smarter than a fifth grader.

Yes, but please bring on the video of Quayle @ Spelling Bee with his silent ‘E’ goof. My question, he was judging the event, so where was the card that he read from in the first place when announcing which word was to be spelled next? Reading a cue card and then making the error as the expert judge is pretty rich; you’ve got to admit it was worth a LOL even if undeserving a world record.
