Video: “Pork and Beans”

posted at 3:10 pm on May 23, 2008 by Allahpundit

Never has a band contrived a stunt so shameless to get their new video to go viral. But it works, doesn’t it?

Minor disappointment: No “what, what, in the butt” guy.

Blowback

Internet people was better.

Minor disappointment:

Minor? It’s only the best video ever.

lorien1973 on May 23, 2008 at 3:18 PM

The Chawk-lit Rain guy bugs the crap out of me.

misterpeasea on May 23, 2008 at 3:18 PM

Win.

spmat on May 23, 2008 at 3:21 PM

It’s a shame to include the visage of Zonday but not the magnificent baritone rumble of the Zonday voice!

Blacklake on May 23, 2008 at 3:21 PM

Minor? It’s only the best video ever.

lorien1973 on May 23, 2008 at 3:18 PM

“Sabotage” still holds that title. And probably always will, since “good music video” is all-but an oxymoron.

Blacklake on May 23, 2008 at 3:23 PM

Needs more TECHNO VIKING!!

TBinSTL on May 23, 2008 at 3:24 PM

Blacklake on May 23, 2008 at 3:21 PM

Yeah, Zonday. Good voice, but crazier than a $hit-house rat.

misterpeasea on May 23, 2008 at 3:26 PM

I love Weezer… Good song. Better Video.

“It’s peanut butter jelly time!!”

Claypigeon on May 23, 2008 at 3:31 PM

Weezer’s cool. Just don’t post any Ween videos.

flipflop on May 23, 2008 at 3:33 PM

Nah, Keep Fishin’ featuring the Muppets was better.

As for best video ever…Foo Fighters, Learn To Fly.

HockeyTemper on May 23, 2008 at 3:34 PM

No Tron guy, FAIL!

Krydor on May 23, 2008 at 3:35 PM

No Tron guy, FAIL!

Krydor on May 23, 2008 at 3:35 PM

Leave Weezer ALONE!

BohicaTwentyTwo on May 23, 2008 at 3:36 PM

Oh, and the best music video of all time is “Hurt”, with Johnny Cash. I win the internets!

Krydor on May 23, 2008 at 3:37 PM

Weezer rocks!!

manfriend on May 23, 2008 at 3:44 PM

This song/video is great. Sounds like it should have come right after the Blue Album and Pinkerton.

warrenmr on May 23, 2008 at 3:45 PM

Awesome video! I love the band and saw them in concert at Roseland Ballroom in NYC. This is as much personality as I’ve seen from Rivers Cuomo.

jencab on May 23, 2008 at 3:45 PM

Goat Punishment!

Time to go pick up the album.

John on May 23, 2008 at 3:47 PM

Eventually repeated “in” references to the same Internet memes will get “played out.” In fact, I think it just did.

29Victor on May 23, 2008 at 3:52 PM

No it doesn’t work. It looks cheap and desperate and derivative.

MarkJudge on May 23, 2008 at 3:56 PM

Jesus. I hate the Internet.

Professor Blather on May 23, 2008 at 3:57 PM

Minor disappointment: No “what, what, in the butt” guy.

And no “Barats and Bereta on Mother’s Day.”

ScottMcC on May 23, 2008 at 3:59 PM

Better than I expected. Getting the actual people to reprise was a nice touch. Bout time that Crazy Internet Money came their way.

But…no lolcats?

sulla on May 23, 2008 at 4:04 PM

Man, the gopher in that video is gonna haunt me.

Rhinoboy on May 23, 2008 at 4:05 PM

Genius!

geckomon on May 23, 2008 at 4:33 PM

But where was Rick?

and by far the best evah . . .

2) Take on Me by aha

Jesus. I hate the Internet.

Professor Blather on May 23, 2008 at 3:57 PM

thomashton on May 23, 2008 at 4:36 PM

Professor Blather on May 23, 2008 at 3:57 PM

In other news: Jesus hates the Internet?

Rosmerta on May 23, 2008 at 4:42 PM

This is one of those songs/videos that is entertaining enough to watch but I don’t feel the need to ever see it again.

thomashton on May 23, 2008 at 4:36 PM

I’d agree inasmuch as “Sweep the Leg” is one of the few good videos, though it requires that one be familiar with “The Karate Kid” to make sense.

Don’t get me wrong, there are other videos I like (Beck’s “Devil’s Haircut” and Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” spring enthusiastically to mind). I just don’t think any of them work as well. “Sabotage” was entertaining, the imagery was both striking and clicked perfectly with the spirit of the music, and the song itself is extremely catchy and memorable. The whole production is a ton of fun, and was arguably even a media trend-setter. That’s a lot of things going for a music video.

Blacklake on May 23, 2008 at 5:48 PM

OMG Shoes!

/win!

Weezer= Fun!
Bob

Bobnormal on May 23, 2008 at 7:11 PM

Since I’ve become more educated and aware on
Hot Air,when I see the phrase”Peanut butter
and jelly time”,it now has a whole(I shudder)
different meaning,as a dark(eewww)activity
that seems to be enjoyed in prison by two
consenting adults(ick)!

So,this is a musical that’s going to debut at
the DNConvention in Denver,how fitting!

canopfor on May 23, 2008 at 7:49 PM

That was meme-tastik! :D

every video is better with Tay Zonday!

Weezer= Fun!

Impressive

- The Cat

P.S. Oh, they also forgot Chad Vader. But with that there could be a copywrite thing involved there.

MirCat on May 23, 2008 at 8:47 PM

I so very much love Weezer…pure genius, ever since ‘Buddy Holly’ and ‘Undone’.

TheGoblinKing on May 23, 2008 at 9:17 PM

Not bad. I was trying to catch the lyrics in case there was some deep meaning. If there was, I missed it.

Maxx on May 23, 2008 at 9:22 PM

What, no Obama Girl?

Chuck Schick on May 23, 2008 at 10:36 PM

What, no McCain Rain?

jgapinoy on May 23, 2008 at 11:01 PM

I probably didn’t get 1/2 of the video since I am obviously not watching enough viral videos – the song was ok, easy to dance to, I give it a 6.

HawaiiLwyr on May 24, 2008 at 12:50 AM

Wow…. I just cleaned my hash pipe,,,, how weird is that?
