We may be headed for an eight-to-ten point blowout nationally, but goshdarnit, we’re winning Florida this year. Thanks, Raul!
The Prince of Peace evidently thinks this is fertile ground for an attack on McCain, although his reasoning is utterly lost on me. I can only assume he feels bound by his own moronic head-of-state principle and thus is forced to negotiate with Cuba, whatever the electoral consequences in Florida. Exit question, per John Bolton’s interview with National Journal: Why does Obama feel compelled to negotiate with scum like the Castro boys at the presidential level? Why isn’t a delegation of apparatchiks or a summit with the secretary of state good enough? It’s almost as though he’s eager to give away presidential prestige, presumably as part of his World Apology Tour ‘09. Rest easy, Barack. Europe is going to love you.

I knew where this election was headed- a debate over Cuba! Sprawling budget deficit, massive energy inflation and continued dependence on sheik oil, manpower shortages in fighting the enemy in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
But what will this election hinge on- the threat of negotiations with Cuba! I hope that we survive this grave danger…

Anybody see Susan Rice on Fox just now? Trying to defend the indefensible and obviously outraged that the anchor called bs. She was so angry and arrogant and bitter that she made Michelle O. seem downright cute and cuddly in comparison.

Bayam: here’s a simple solution for you. Cut spending and taxes; allow oil exploration in our own country, and tell the Dem’s in congress to up the manpower limits for the military THEY imposed. I.E. add about 4 more divisions….
There, problems solved. Simple, easy, and I’m sure you’d go into a coronary if the US actually, you know, stood up for itself.

You clearly haven’t read the WSJ or other sources recently to know the amount of oil that’s available in this country for drilling and how would it would impact the world’s growing demand for energy. If you think it would affect oil prices, then you are sadly uninformed.
Basically, you need several new Saudi Arabias just to keep up with world demand over the next 2 decades.
As for Iraq and the military, it’s interesting that you blame the party that only recently gained control of the Congress. Nice try though.

Bayam: dude, I LIVE in an oil field that’s got governmental regs preventing usage of it. There’s more oil in the rocky mountains than in the middle east. Try looking at “oil shale” and “oil sands” sometime. Bill Clinton put the worlds largest source of super clean coal under lock and key–the san rafael swell in Utah.
Anwar has oil. Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado have more. More than the middle east. If the Dem’s would get out of the way, but they won’t.
Clue time: oil doesn’t come just from drilling.

Dirty lil secret no Liberal will ever talk about; Martin Luther King was a registered REPUBLICAN, and the politicians he was fighting with over civil rights were DEMOCRATS.

JFK illegally wire tapped the MLK telephones; oh yes folks, these lil facts will never be reported on or even talked about behind closed doors. Black Americans have been dumbed down for so many decades now, most actually believe MLK was a life long Democrat fighting the righteous fight against the mean ol Republicans.
What’s my point, and how does this relate to this topic?
Obama is 99% pure bullshit, just as 99% of all Democrats. These critters will do anything, say anything, to get power. With the help of the media, Democrats have successfully held down an entire race of Americans with pure lies and reshaping of history. It’s amazing to watch this take place year after year, and these people continue to vote Democrat by a margin of 90%. Same scenario applies to American Jews; spoon fed pure bullshit as if they are incapable of comprehending historical data. Democrats have done nothing for Blacks and Jews except for to suppress these people while feeding their souls with hatred and feelings of victimization. Obama is simply another average Liberal/Democrat; race and gender mean nothing here, the guy is just another lying power hungry Liberal, willing to tell us what we must adhere to; reshaping history with every speech to shape the manner by which he wants us to think.

It’s not crude oil. People who live in those states will have to decide if they can accept the pollution that currently goes along with producing it or go with nuclear / wind / other energy that’s no more expensive to produce, since extracting and processing shale is much more expensive than crude.

Can’t put nuclear/wind/other energy sources into my truck; oil is necessary for the next generation minimum. I agree that we need to build many more nuclear plants specifically for the production of clean electricity; however, shipping, trucking, industry, personal travel needs (to & from work) rely upon oil products. We must put the blame where it belongs. Both Republicans and Democrats have let the people down with regards to our energy needs (both present and future), while bowing to environmental nutters. Much of the blame belongs to those on the left, but most certainly many on the right have guilt dripping from their empty suits.
While big brother is busy pointing the finger at big oil, they’re all unwilling to discuss their own taxes applied to oil products, as well as their own failure’s to create solutions for this problem in advance to the disaster. These people continue to “kick the can” down the road at the expense of the people. These people refuse to be held accountable for their behavior, and lack of producing solutions. These people have become nothing other than a typical addict, only in this case the addiction is to power and the life style that comes with it.
We, the people, will look at our law makers and problem solvers for accountability, or we will continue the slide we have been on for quite some time now. The politicians and the media will continue their best efforts to keep us fighting with each other in an effort to keep the focus off themselves. We look to them for solutions, but in truth, it looks like we are the ones who must solve our problems. The media has drifted as far away from it’s original intent as could be possible. Our politicians have drifted as far away from the original design as could be possible. We, the people must take matters into our own hands by simply saying NO MORE to the media and our politicians; hold them accountable and demand that they perform the job task as designed, or get out of the way and let people who will do the job take over. Produce solutions rather than hatred and division. Produce solutions rather than hiding behind lies and pointed fingers.

The people of Alaska decided they wanted less than 3,000 measly acres of ANWR developed for oil (and “pollution” was not a significant byproduct) but their wishes were not respected in the least - not by Bill Clinton who vetoed the Republican majority Congress’s legislation, not by John McCain who claims to be a “Federalist”, and not by the Socialist Dems.
Are you sure you care about what “the people” decide?

Don’t worry, raising taxes will solve the budget problem, taxing the oil companies will solve the energy shortages and conceding Afghanistan and Iraq to the jihadists will solve the manpower shortages. The Obaminator has all the solutions (if not he can always consult with Chuckie Schumer and Maxine Waters).

Nuclear + solar + wind can get this country off oil for the most part. It takes politicians with the guts to make it happen and massive investments in things like hydrogen cell tech. There’s no doubt that whoever’s elected as next President will finally take some real action. Ethanol has been a joke and a nightmare policy that’s nothing more than pork for farmers.

In part because there tends to be a popular misconception among the left that there are no bad people, just bad situations or misunderstandings from which actors respond.
Problems are structural and if we can only dialog and find out where people are coming from, we can negotiate anything and get along.

Agreed for the most part bayam… Ethanol has caused a world wide spike in food costs, which has hurt the poorest people the most. Disaster is an accurate term. First things first; we must shut down the opposition standing in the way of the advancement of our energy needs. This will never happen if we continue to allow the media (which owns the opposition) to divide us along religious & ideological lines. You and I have been communicating for several years now; as was the case with monkei, shipley, and several others who don’t share my ideology. Truth is, we are not so different as one might think while watching us argue talking points.
We need solutions, and we need them now. Solutions have not come our way very easily for the past couple of decades; with the situation getting remarkably worse since 9/11… Our social security system is in ruin, compliments of big brother. If we are not careful, big brother will take over our medical industry and ruin it as it ruins most everything it touches. We have black churches across the country teaching & preaching hatred; not only of other races, but of country. We have catholic priests committing horrible acts of crime against our children. We have a incomprehensible nightmare at our doorstep in the form of an energy crisis; a nightmare so huge it could shut down our economy. Our airline industry is in deep trouble with no real solution on the table. We have lost many of our largest industries to other countries due to over regulation by big brother. We have huge problems that need solutions NOW.
We must suck it up and get this stuff straightened out. Our children deserve the same country that was handed to us by our parents. We have been arguing over “who is the best and greatest American” for several years now. Truth is, we are both Americans who need to fight for solutions while demanding results. The war between Pubs & Dems is fun to an extent, but it brings us no results other than to take our focus off the real problem.
Keemo on May 23, 2008 at 8:13 PM
I agree with some of the statements from bayam, keemo, and Vanceone in regard to our energy problems and I have a couple of my own points to add.
First is the fact our nation has not built a new oil refinery on 30 years due to the environmental “nutters” as someone called them. This in of itself is a problem, you can pull all the oil out of the ground you want but currently most refineries are at or close to maximum capacity because as I stated earlier we haven’t built a new one in 30 years, so even if we had more oil we would be hard pressed to refine it. Which is ironic since the environmental nutters that are so concerned with protecting the environment keep fighting the building of new refineries yet a new refinery would be much more efficient and less polluting then one that is 30 years old.
Secondly, I agree our government has let us down in many ways and one of those is not being serious about energy independance especially after the oil embargos of the 70’s! It should have been obvious to our government after the embargo that it was in our best interest to fully support and significatly fund research into alternative energy, not just to avoid potential economic dangers but to also prevent dangers from nations that would use oil profits to against us, e.g., a good amount of money going to the middle east from oil profits that are being used to further the spread of Sharia Islam ideology, it’s schools of hate, terrorist organizations, etc. This is where our government and it’s special interest ties has really failed us.
Seriously where would the middle east be if it didn’t have oil money? If it didn’t have oil, what would they produce to have a viable economy? Answer, they wouldn’t have a viable economy, especially one robust enough to support its spread of Sharia and terrorism!
We need to have the same mind set toward finding alternative energy sources as we did when we were determined to put a man on the moon so we can once and for all tell the middle east to shove their oil up their arses and watch them wither on the vine and turn to dust!

Fidel Castro dies in 2009. Even if he is already dead, he dies in 2009. If he is as ill as reports say, it is doubtful he will live through 2009. If he is already dead, Raul wouldn’t dare let that be known as long as George W Bush is in office.
All Soviet projects in the United States from 1960 onwards were run through Cuba. This included payments to agents within the United States, funding of subversive activity, and other such nasty deeds for which nobody has been held accountable. Yet.
Cuba is very important this year, because the choice is clear: Either we have an Administration that will do everything within its power to ensure a free and democratic Cuba, which will happily share the DGI files with us and allow us to know who has been poisoning the political wells all these years.
Or we will have an Administration elected by and bound to those people within the United States who have secrets the Castros have been hiding all these years. In working to preserve the Presidents’ friends, the Cuban people will be sold down the river.

Obama just buried himself down here.
Cubans and other Latins won’t vote for him.
First of all he had a major strike against him even before he opened his mouth. His race (Cubans like other hispanics won’t pull the lever for a black). racist it may be but it is reality. No amount of smooth talking or ad buys is going to change that.
Although i encourage obama to spend the money here because it helps the local economy and ties up his resources he may be able to better use somewhere else.
Secondly, since there is no real track record of governance to look at we try to get a measure of the man by looking at his past and in Miami his Marxist associations and associates sell about as well as his Muslim associations and associates do with the Jewish vote in Boca.
Latinos know the consequences of Marxism.
then this pathetic cretin confirms everyone’s prejudices by opening his marxist mouth.

Brilliantly stated!
Here in my home state (Montana) an expansion (modernization) of an existing refinery has just been completed in a town near us. Net result: double the capacity. New refineries take years to build; which simply means “start now”! In the mean while, modernization of existing refineries must get under way immediately. Big Brother must remove restrictions and quit with the over regulation bullshit now.
How bout having our car makers stick their smartest minds into a room, giving them unlimited food and drink, and not let them out until they have designed an engine that gets 100 miles to the gallon (for starters)that can be used in any of their existing vehicles.
One things for sure, the people must unite for the cause. The preaching and teaching of hatred only serves to divide us, while making lil robots of us. We are not the problem; it is not us that is broken and has failed the country.

Isn’t there only so much energy you can get from a gallon of gas? Its not endless is it? Like getting 100 miles per gallon pushing the same weight as our cars are now.
