I just came back from a three-day washout in Saugatuck, Michigan, artsy community on Lake Michigan in the Riviera of the Midwest. “Wash-Out” because from Wednesday to this morning, it never got above 55 degrees, and this morning, my car had frost on it.

Tried to watch the sunset Thursday night at Oval Beach, and had to bail out. A jacket, a blanket, my bride of 25 years, and a decent Pinot Noir couldn’t keep me warm enough to stay on that frigid beach.

Anecdotal, I know. Tell my flourishing lilacs…

Or. Arizona just had mountain snows in late May! Latest on record for Mt. Lemmon (near Tucson). Maybe we are going to be OK after all. Never mind.

When will the Jupiterians understand they must join Kyoto?…

If there were zero growth sure. However, as long as east coast liberals continue to move to Colorado there will be a need to tap “new” water resources. Ironically the influx of “liberal” elites has created the problems they all to frequently protest about. It is quite pathetic to see the majority of the obama signs and bumper stickers parked in the yards and driveways of the newly built mcmansions in my hometown. We had a fantastic free-market recycling program until the east-coast libs demanded a government solution.

And the headline in today’s Colorado Springs Gazette is about how the citizens have conserved so much water that the water Co. has to jack up rates significantly! Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Kind of like voting for McCain.

I thought that would be a good story, but when I went looking for it, all I came up with was an expected >100% increase to pay for a new pipeline, the Southern Delivery System (SDS). Apparently CS has water rights in the Pueblo Reservoir, but no access at this time.
If they had really conserved so much, would the pipeline even be necessary right now?

…This has led some people, not necessarily scientists, to wonder if Mars and Jupiter, non signatories to the Kyoto Treaty, are actually inhabited by alien SUV-driving industrialists who run their air-conditioning at 60 degrees and refuse to recycle.

Actually, that all depends. If you add global warming controls to trade agreements and force India and China to play along, then it will actually push manufacturing costs up more in those countries than at home. The US is more expensive because of our higher standards, not just because of higher labor costs.

What I am curious about is simply this. Where are the trees that are supposed to be being planted by the folks who are selling the carbon credits?

When I was in the conservation corp back in 91 we planted a crap load of trees. We would take seedlings that had been grown by the evil lumber corporate capitalist pigs to reforest the ares they had stripped, so in 50 years they could come back and harvest that crop and then reforest it all again.

But where are the planting grounds that are needed to plant all the tress that are being purchased by the folks atoning for their sins of exhaling C02?

Except for a single very powerful radio emission aimed at Jupiter, the four-million year old black monolith has remained completely inert. Its origin and purpose, still a total mystery…….
