Video: Maxine Waters threatens to nationalize America’s oil industry

posted at 9:26 pm on May 22, 2008 by Allahpundit

Befitting the catastrophic stupidity of this idea, she doesn’t even know what the proper term for it is. I’m sitting here telling myself that Shep and the Foxies must have taken this out of context somehow since it would seem rather newsworthy and yet there’s not a single article about it on the wires that I can find. Go figure. But here you go, one of the most alarming collectivist ad libs by a mainstream American politician since the last creepy thing Hillary said, whatever that may be. Viva Chavez!

Socializing….basically…taking over. That’s the answer to everything, isn’t it?

Spirit of 1776 on May 22, 2008 at 9:32 PM

Yes, many Democrats really were working for the Reds back in the day, despite the media mythology about it.

blue13326 on May 22, 2008 at 9:32 PM

Watch the vid again you can clearly see smirks on the bald guy and the woman behind Comrade Maxine.

This shouldve been the top story on the evening news!!!!!

Kevin43 on May 22, 2008 at 9:34 PM

Good old Maxine Waters. Always up to something nutty.

SoulGlo on May 22, 2008 at 9:34 PM

I think we are seeing the resurgence of communism in our own congress. We must never let this happen and must fight it at all costs. This poor Republic is in deep trouble.

rplat on May 22, 2008 at 9:36 PM

My God, these people are stupid. First of all they spend money like drunken sailors, and then they want to nationalize major industries. next thing you know, they will be sending us off to collectives.

Socializing….basically…taking over. That’s the answer to everything, isn’t it?
Spirit of 1776 on May 22, 2008 at 9:32 PM

Yup.

Taking over. That’s the answer to all of this pesky capitalism. And record profits. And the next president may ‘want to take those profits from the oil companies.’ Wait. That’s Hillary, not Obama.

But since so many people are not going to lower themselves to vote for McCain, whoever the democrat president with the democrats in the house and senate might just anyway.

Maybe they can invite Chavez to have a guest speaking role at the first state of the union, share his thoughts and strategy for nationalizing the oil industry, sleep overnight in the Lincoln bedroom as an honored guest.

It’s going to be so awesome for the next 4 to 8 years, huh?? Yeah!!!

wise_man on May 22, 2008 at 9:37 PM

That wasn’t a slip when she socializing. It’s the buzzword when behind closed doors.

swami on May 22, 2008 at 9:38 PM

Maxine Waters couldn’t nationalize the baby oil industry, much less the petroleum industry. She’s a ranting, moronic nut with the clout of a moldy coffee cup.

Hollowpoint on May 22, 2008 at 9:39 PM

Dim. Very dim. Very, very dim.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on May 22, 2008 at 9:39 PM

Wasn’t she the genius that asked, on a tour of NASA, “Where’s the stuff the astronauts brought back from Mars?”
Am I remembering that right?

Janna on May 22, 2008 at 9:40 PM

Instead, maybe they should take the handcuffs off the oil industry and just let them do their jobs.

RBMN on May 22, 2008 at 9:41 PM

swami on May 22, 2008 at 9:38 PM

They learned their lesson with Hillary’s attempted takeover of health care system – the word “socializing.”

Of course the say that behind closed doors, and when out in public, the word they are searching for is “Nationalizing.” Since Maxine Waters is not the sharpest spoon in the drawer, she couldn’t pull off the usual deal while the microphone was on.

But yup, she meant, Socializing.

Feedie on May 22, 2008 at 9:53 PM

Actually, as long as they don’t confiscate private property or renege on contracts, they can drill new oil under the land that the American people collectively own ( government land ) and do what is necessary through price fixing or whatever to drive down the price of oil on the global market.

This would profit the American people in the form of cheaper gas at the pump. It would be like a modern day homestead act, not socialist.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on May 22, 2008 at 9:57 PM

Since the congressional inquisitions began, I’ve been waiting for someone to suggest it. Just have government take over the oil industry and all our problems would be solved.

Then I saw the clip on Fox. Wasn’t really paying attention, and Hume and the panel of experts seemed to find it amusing.

I’m wondering if Waters knew what she wanted to do, but didn’t know how to say it. Or knew how to say it, but wasn’t sure she was ready to go that far. Or she was trying to remember the words that had been whispered in her ear by her ‘handlers’.

RETARD How in the hell does she keep getting elected?

TroubledMonkey on May 22, 2008 at 9:48 PM

Here’s how.

35th Congressional District

Median Income $32,156 (California Median Income $55,000)

Demographics: 10.4% White, 34.1% Black, 5.6% Asian, 47.4% Hispanic, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% other

2004 Election: John Kerry 79%, George W. Bush 20%

She wants to nationalize oil so she can take a cut from the profits.

Here’s something interesting.

Waters was named in 2005 and 2006 as one of the “most corrupt” members of congress by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. They said, “Her ethics issues arise from her exercise of this power to financially benefit her daughter, husband and son.” They said that Waters’ daughter Karen charges other politicians to appear on mailers sent to constituents in Los Angeles showing her mother’s support for the politician. Karen has received $450,000 in fees from this endeavor and Waters’ son Edward has received $115,000. Waters’ husband Sidney benefited from his wife’s connections with his hiring as a political consultant by a firm, Siebert, Brandford, & Shank, seeking government investment. Sidney Williams earned $500,000 from this consulting, which consisted of introducing Siebert to politicians his wife had supported. Sidney and Edward Williams also benefitted when they won a contract to run a Los Angeles golf course, with the decision made by a county supervisor who had won a close race after Waters’ endorsement and from which they made financial gain of between $140,000 and $400,000. Citizens for Ethics says this violates House ethics rules for family members’ financial gains.

Yeah… just entertaining her premise here… because nationalizing oil will make it cheaper, cost effective, and faster like every other government bureaucracy that exists now? Oh, this time it’s going to be different?

It would be most hilarious and instructional to Rep Waters if a bunch of us send her audio tracks (any popular format is fine) of just people laughing. With the laugh track is a picture of the oil companies with the word “Nationalized”.
