Video: Life after rigor mortis
posted at 5:00 pm on May 22, 2008 by Allahpundit
“Her skin had already started hardening, her hands and toes were curling up, they were already drawn,” says her son, which means there can be but two explanations: (1) a miraculous resurrection ordained by providence, (2) a miscalculation on his part, since she obviously wasn’t dead. The big A’s verdict: Lucky number two. Click the image to watch.

She wasn’t dead. She was only resting.

17 1/2 hours with NO brain waves. I’ll go with #1.

“I’m not dead, I’m getting better”
Asher on May 22, 2008 at 5:09 PM
The miraculous part wasn’t the son’s observation, but the doctor’s observation that she had no brain waves for nearly 18 hours.
joewm315 on May 22, 2008 at 5:13 PM
I’m happy for her, but it sounds a little bit REANIMATOR meets COCCOON.
sulla on May 22, 2008 at 5:14 PM
Miraculous!

Same thing happened to me, but mine was alcohol induced after the Rockies lost the world series last year. They revived me by making me shower with a toaster that was plugged in.

Or, what we like to call a typical day for Obama supporters.
fogw on May 22, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Was Obama near?

In a related diciplinary report: “EEG leads found not connected to EEG monitor…”

When she woke up, her first word was “Braaaiiiinnnnnssss!”

jinx
abinitioadinfinitum on May 22, 2008 at 5:19 PM
If she had stiffening after 10 or 12 hours, then that would be rigor.
Jimmy the Dhimmi on May 22, 2008 at 5:21 PM
Nuance.
wise_man on May 22, 2008 at 5:22 PM
She was just pining for the fjords!
apollyonbob on May 22, 2008 at 5:22 PM
To paraphrase from The Princess Bride; “oh well, so now yer an expert huh, well as it turns out she was only mostly dead…which is completely different from being all dead!”
Liberty or Death on May 22, 2008 at 5:24 PM
Somehow I believe this.

There’s the goof in your logic. Step 1: rule out the supernatural. Step 2: pick whatever remaining option suits you best.
TexasDan on May 22, 2008 at 5:29 PM
She was only mostly dead and mostly dead is slightly alive.
F15Mech on May 22, 2008 at 5:08 PM
Dang, I didn’t see this post before I posted mine!
Sorry F15, didn’t meant to try and steal your thunder.

I think we have McCain’s running mate. Both gave the big middle finger to the grim reaper.

If this dame survived, why was mostly-healthy Terry Schaivo deliberately starved to death?
jgapinoy on May 22, 2008 at 5:55 PM
Does she have anything to say about the afterlife?
Near death experiences?
Any recollection of the past 18 hours with no brain function?
thomashton on May 22, 2008 at 6:04 PM
I have heard many credible testimonies of miracles like this.
JellyToast on May 22, 2008 at 6:10 PM
This is why McCain’s age is no big deal.
right2bright on May 22, 2008 at 6:14 PM
I don’t understand what the big deal is. Harry Reid’s been like that for the last 8 years??!??
Catseye on May 22, 2008 at 6:48 PM
“(2) a miscalculation on his part, since she obviously wasn’t dead. The big A’s verdict: Lucky number two.”
People say seeing is believing AP, so apparently you weren’t watching the same video as me. The answer must be 1, because she WAS dead. Seriously, 17 and a half hours without a brain wave?
j_ehman on May 22, 2008 at 6:55 PM
I enjoyed them both.
JiangxiDad on May 22, 2008 at 6:55 PM
How about other possible exlplanations? How do we know that the EEG was working and that the leads were properly placed and connected.
snaggletoothie on May 22, 2008 at 7:06 PM
According to who? The doctor who barely had enough neurological activity himself to use the word neurological in a sentence?
Watcher on May 22, 2008 at 7:06 PM
Brainwaves do not life make. As it says at the start of the video, paramedics re-started her heart after about 15 minutes. So 15 minutes is the relevant time period.
Blacklake on May 22, 2008 at 7:06 PM
I’m not dead yet! I feel happy!
I think I’ll go for a walk!

No kidding. That is a shining example of how Atheism is as much of a religion as, well, religion.

Finally, a reason to become an organ donator.

P.S. I think McCain just denounced her.

I think that McCain’s great granddaughter… :D
Chakra Hammer on May 23, 2008 at 2:48 AM
Pardon my medical ignorance but if she was on life support all that time, why would rigor mortis occur?
