“… if we won the Congressional elections, we could stop the war. Now anybody was a good student of Government would know that wasn’t true.”
Man, I remember debating with my Lib friends and telling them exactly this, and they just refused to believe it.

I hope I’m wrong but I contend that this will make absolutely no difference to democrats. Their supporters will still provide money and will continue to support them if for no other reason than to keep the much bigger evil (Republicans) out of power.

Quoted form the article:
Apparently no one on the left can seem to outsmart the President and yet they still call him a buffoon. So who are the real buffoons here? Because if one is to accept that the President is a buffoon (and I certainly don’t myself), then how much of a bigger buffoon must one be to be unable to outsmart a buffoon and to elect people who can not apparently outsmart a buffoon?
NotCoach on May 22, 2008 at 11:10 PM
I agree with Mormon Doc. Dollars to doughnuts this guy wins his next election by an even bigger margin than his last.
tomk59 on May 22, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Our wacko Dem friend, Mike Gravel, did exactly the same thing in 1969 when he told a group of students how he won his Senate seat in Alaska, by running to the right of his opponent while all the time planning on legislating to the left. He thought he was showing these students how smart he was while giving a lesson on how to win elections. It was a safe audience, students in 1969 being moonbats and all.
Security told me to leave the room after I told Gravel what I thought of his tactics and character.
Gravel went on to turn traitor to his country, betray national secrets to the press corps, and coddle the SDS.
Anything to get their lefty agenda through. Lie, cheat, steal aint the half of it. The Dems will never get my vote, for any reason, on any issue.

If you believe the following statement, you may qualify to teach in an inner-city public school: “We can leave Iraq immediately, and the main problem with inner-city public schools is that we don’t spend enough money.”
RBMN on May 22, 2008 at 11:26 PM
Well they won their necessary seats in ’06. So a few thousand civilians and soldiers had to die or be wounded because of their rhetoric, at least they won the election and that is all they seem to care about.
You still want to wait for the perfect Republican to land on your doorstep and give all the keys to these democrats in November?
Bishop on May 22, 2008 at 11:28 PM
I guess that proves it, I’m insane.
But I’m not buying it. This looks like a classic ‘trial baloon’. Have an obscure party loyalist with enough time built up to be eligible for retirement make the inital announcement, and watch how the party fanatics, and the news media react.
Since it appears that Iraq is beginning to stablize, or appears to be trending in that direction, the democrats have to prepare their fall back position.

Tony Blair? Dude, Israel came this close to kicking your azz.

BadgerHawk on May 22, 2008 at 11:36 PM
And you really think a narrative of “We lied our way to a majority” is really going to play well? If this is a trial balloon the guy making the balloons needs to be fired.
NotCoach on May 22, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Can you download clips from YouTube?
BadgerHawk on May 22, 2008 at 11:39 PM
I can relate.
I am new to a job with some (African-American) Obama supporters. Before our state primary, one of them made the comment we need someone who will bring our troops home. When I said that wasn’t gonna happen, she looked shocked and asked why not. I hope I gave her a decent answer as to why we need to win this war and not claim defeat and retreat.
atxcowgirl on May 22, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Done.
amerpundit on May 22, 2008 at 11:45 PM
The trial baloon is not that they lied then. The trial baloon is telling the party fanatics that the troops will not be withdrawn. The loyalists don’t care that their guys lied, remember 8 years of clinton?
The lie is now. They were serious then about bringing the troops home, and abandoning the fight.
rockhauler on May 22, 2008 at 11:47 PM
RE: The guy should be fired.
That’s why I pointed out that he is eligible for retirement with 25 years of service. If the reaction is a lynch mob, the guy just retires.
classic sacrifical lamb, mea culpa, trial baloon.

Texyank on May 22, 2008 at 11:55 PM
This is bugging me.
If democrats were lieing when they said they would withdraw the troops then, and knew they were lieing then, why confess your sins now?
If Obama is stillsaying now that he’ll immediately (within 100 days) withdrawn, how does he walk back from that position in October with a peacefull Iraq?
rockhauler on May 22, 2008 at 11:58 PM
Will everyone here e-mail Rush and send a message to Drudge via his message box on the lower right of his page to try to get the word out about this? I already have but a little re-enforcement couldn’t hurt.

Touche’! :-)
Did ya see the Marshall/Stann fight? It’s on YouTube if ya missed it.
Tony737 on May 23, 2008 at 12:04 AM
Obama said he would start withdrawing troops within 100 days of being elected and have them all out in 18 months, I think. If things keep going the way they are now, that is very doable. However, I don’t think the Iraqi army will be able to function without our Air Force and MiTT teams with them. But he did account for that force and the force protection that would have to be there to support them. So it is possible. *If* everything keeps going the way it has the last 4 weeks.

Isn’t Rush a Hillary supporter now?

I downloaded the clip to my blog. But doesn’t that go dead if YouTube pulls the clip? I doubt that this is the kind of thing that YT is going to give much aid and comfort to. Unless this is the beginning of the Dems trying to take credit for the war.

Gobbling the gibberish like gullible geese.
profitsbeard on May 23, 2008 at 2:11 AM
Well, duh! This is a no brainer. They knew they couldn’t end the war so long as there is a sitting President who supports it. Their plan is to use that in an attempt to leverage undecideds towards voting Democrat in the Presidential election, and keeping control of the Legislature. Then they’ll have rubber-stamping powers to end the war…
And bring about a new level of socialism in America. But pay no attention to the second part. It’s all about ending the war! Honestly. Not abot consolidating maximum power in Washington to control your lives and paychecks. Why would you ever think that?

No one should be surprised seeing that this all comes from the party that uses a jackass as its symbol. Come to think of it, “herds of jackass” defines Obamaphobes pretty well too.

ROTFLMAO……………… ROVE you magnificent Ba$tard…………!!!!!!!!!
doriangrey on May 23, 2008 at 8:23 AM
I hope that gets used every year..
even after Rove is gone to the hereafter, the GOP better plant rumors that he left diaries and playbooks, scores of them, for each state and any democrat defeat ends up with, “Rove, you magnificent Bastard”
DaveC on May 23, 2008 at 9:07 AM
I think Rod meant Obamaphiles (those who love Obama).
An Obamaphobe would be someone who FEARS Obama. After listening to Obama’s blundering foreign policy proposals, I am an Obamaphobe, and there are probably lots of other Obamaphobes on this blog.

I love how people say, “Well it’s out of context.” And yet when you study more closely what the person said or hear all the audio in front and back he still said the same damn thing. I suppose that seven minute version is sort of like Jeremiah Wright putting a whole lot of context on his views in front of the National Press Club, right?
No one has to watch the long version to know he admits that the Democrats lied in the last election to try and get elected. It is just a long winded version of the same admission.
NotCoach on May 23, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Right. And we should understand that if we try to understand the batty liberals, then we become as batty as the moon-bat liberals…understand? See what I mean : )
kcd on May 23, 2008 at 12:01 PM
This doesn’t make any difference. From what I read about the 2006 elections the Democrats who took Republican seats moved to the right of the Republicn candidates on the war.
