“Good stuff,” Ace told me, urging me to clip. I’ve excised the stuff about polygamy, which Hawkins denies, and left you with the nutty nitty gritty. Entertaining, as Shep always is, but, er … why have this tool on in the first place? They knew what he was about; I assume Shep has enough cachet at Fox to spike a segment that offers too much free publicity to a shady character. Smells to me like a Banderas/Phelps ceremonial smiting o’ the bad guy, conceived less for its news value than for the opportunity it gives the anchor to heroically tell off a malfeasor to his face. Good TV, admittedly, but in context the get-out-of-my-sight indignance comes off as a tad, shall we say, O’Reilly-esque.
This wasn’t Hawkins’s only interview in the past 24 hours, either. He turned up last night for an hour-long smiting on — where else? — Nancy Grace. Exit question: What’s next, inviting on sex offenders and asking them when, precisely, they realized they were evil?

I’d rather watch bikinis and hot chicks on O’Reilly “The Cultural Warrior” and on Shep’s “The Fox Report” than seeing them yelling at people or booting them off their shows.
You don’t get ratings like that.
You have to play the “Sex Card.”
Bill O’Reilly knows best. With his expertise in phone sex, he surely can up his ratings.
Indy Conservative on May 21, 2008 at 7:17 PM
I don’t get Shep. Is he supposed to be a newsman, an opinion guy, journalist, what? He injects his personal thoughts into the weirdest parts of stories.
BadgerHawk on May 21, 2008 at 7:17 PM
Wow..
Chakra Hammer on May 21, 2008 at 7:19 PM
I always thought Shep just wanted to be fabulous.
Am I wrong?
Stephen M on May 21, 2008 at 7:21 PM
yea I guess that sounds about right.
BadgerHawk on May 21, 2008 at 7:22 PM
Sweeps controls all television networks
bnelson44 on May 21, 2008 at 7:23 PM
Well it is a load of crap.
Tommy Davis would have been more fun though.
Sammy316 on May 21, 2008 at 7:28 PM
This is all just a load of crap.
malan89 on May 21, 2008 at 7:30 PM
He is just Shep. Plain and simple.
malan89 on May 21, 2008 at 7:31 PM
Probably the worst interview I’ve ever seen.
Shep needs to go back to journalism school… he would not let the guy answer questions… he just continued on the Shep rant.
Its one thing to deride a religous group… another to take their beliefs out of context to make fun of them.
Anyone know Shep’s beliefs? As an Agnostic I’m sure I could come up with a way to make fun of them…
Journalists are NOT supposed to pass judgement, which Shep had weeks ago, but to elicit information… this is just part of the whole Press talking head mania… where either THEY are the story, or they create one out of whole cloth…
As to the Polygmy thing??? Isn’t it amazing that not ONE person in the Texas case has been indicted for anything? They just took the kids (using a false complaint to do it?)… this truly worries me as there does NOT appear to be due process in this case.
Romeo13 on May 21, 2008 at 7:32 PM
Oops, when i saw the headline i thought it was Al Gore.
Thankfully this guy is more reasonable.

It’s all about entertainment and getting higher ratings. News value. . ., not so much.
rbj on May 21, 2008 at 7:43 PM
Heh…”I don’t know where you got these lies Mr. ah SHEP
that was good stuff.
Topsecretk9 on May 21, 2008 at 7:44 PM
I’m probably like the only man in America who thought Bandaras and Phelps yelling at each was stupid TV. I don’t get why Ace thinks this is better/as good. Oh well.
Spirit of 1776 on May 21, 2008 at 7:45 PM
Shep is kind of a dork, isn’t he?
Asher on May 21, 2008 at 7:47 PM
Did he say that STDs are in the firmament? Talk about not knowing your ass from a hole in the ground…
ronsfi on May 21, 2008 at 7:47 PM
Who would you rather have teaching your children?
This guy or Charles Darwin?
ronsfi on May 21, 2008 at 7:49 PM
I haven’t watched much of Shep since Katrina.
The nutjob cultist was doing just fine knotting up his own rope. Shep, I believe, was more angry at his producer for getting this man a spot then at the man himself.
Romeo13…..yep….Texas taxpayers are going to be financing that church and it’s offspring for a long long time to come.
Limerick on May 21, 2008 at 7:49 PM
That Shep, he’s a weird one.
NTWR on May 21, 2008 at 7:49 PM
From the Wikipedia page, this made me laugh:

Can you hug a “Nukyuhler Baby” with Nuclear Arms?
ronsfi on May 21, 2008 at 7:51 PM
Anyone remember 88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Happen 1988? Good stuff.
But also… how can polygamy be considered bad (and illegal) if gay marriage is okay? It’s just another lifestyle.
29Victor on May 21, 2008 at 7:53 PM
Was Shep actually expecting a reasonable conversation instead of this disjointed lunatic sermon?
Nah.
hillbillyjim on May 21, 2008 at 7:53 PM
Dr. Phil and the Bum Fights guy.
OneGyT on May 21, 2008 at 7:53 PM
There is a perfect example of a living modern day prophet, put him in the cell with that other living prophet nut case in Texas…maybe they can make a little prophet. In fact lock anyone who claims to be a living prophet, so far there has not been a prophet in 2000 years.
There must be good money and power in being a prophet…hmmm, time for an INTERNET PROPHET…
right2bright on May 21, 2008 at 8:08 PM
What a nutcase.
Maxx on May 21, 2008 at 8:11 PM
Totally pointless.
surrounded on May 21, 2008 at 8:17 PM
Hmmmm, STDs causing global warming? Has anyone memoed AlGore about this? And yeah, I stopped watching Shep during Katrina too.
Buzzy on May 21, 2008 at 8:22 PM
AP, I hope you got whiny Dick Morris on O’Reilly today. His hostility toward Laura I. was palpable.
baldilocks on May 21, 2008 at 8:25 PM
Maybe the dingo ate your Nukular Baby.
fogw on May 21, 2008 at 8:31 PM
Weird. I thought the complete opposite. I was really glad when he said, hey you wanted me on the show, let me finish a sentence. Difference perspective, I guess.
Spirit of 1776 on May 21, 2008 at 8:32 PM
Your point would be sorta good except that in the case of poligamy there often seems to be an absence of choice.
surrounded on May 21, 2008 at 8:33 PM
I like Shep!!!!!!!!!
Winebabe on May 21, 2008 at 8:34 PM
“polygamy” though.
surrounded on May 21, 2008 at 8:35 PM
I thought he was threatening to leave. I didn’t take it as if she asked him to be there.
Could be wrong.
baldilocks on May 21, 2008 at 8:40 PM
I thought that was the key argument for gay marriage.
Spirit of 1776 on May 21, 2008 at 8:40 PM

Vntnrse on May 21, 2008 at 8:46 PM
Sexually transmitted diseases cause global warming. No, he’s got it backwards. Global warming cause STD’s, of course.
More seriously, Hawkins on the end of the world? How’s this much different from Algore’s climatological apocalypse?
petefrt on May 21, 2008 at 9:07 PM
Count me in on that POV. Good for the goose is good for gander. Let’s take it to USSC. Enough of allowing lefties to favor their own protected identity groups (voters) to the exclusion of the rest of America.
petefrt on May 21, 2008 at 9:15 PM
If a long dead corpse started teaching my kids I’d grab my shotgun & holy water and go undead hunting.
Darth Executor on May 21, 2008 at 9:23 PM
Too much makeup will make one moody…apparently.
SouthernGent on May 21, 2008 at 9:25 PM
Ditto. And the live stream they have in the “strategy room” during primary nights is better than the main coverage, in my opinion.
mikeyboss on May 21, 2008 at 9:28 PM
You’re right. The whole planet is becoming one big Spring Break.
mikeyboss on May 21, 2008 at 9:29 PM
Was that Ted Turner with a beard?
Claypigeon on May 21, 2008 at 9:33 PM
I watched the stream for the first time last night, and I totally agree.
Spirit of 1776 on May 21, 2008 at 9:34 PM
For crying out loud she wouldn’t let the man make his point, I love Laura but she was just downright rude tonight, she was talking to Dick Morris not Lanny Davis.
I hate when Cavuto, ORielly or Hannity does the same thing without cause, let the man finish his sentence then make your counter arguement.
Ciannaky on May 21, 2008 at 9:44 PM
My point is really good.
Forced polygamy is rare and only seems less so because it’s the only form that makes it onto the news. Forcing someone to marry is, of course, illegal and marrying underage kids (as these cults often do) is also illegal. But that wasn’t at all what I was talking about.
29Victor on May 21, 2008 at 9:47 PM
“Boomstick.” It’s called a “boomstick”.
Shop smart and aim for the head.
29Victor on May 21, 2008 at 9:59 PM
This guy is a nut but no more than those who are telling people that nuclear war is not a threat, that anal sex doesn’t spread STDs and that leaf blowers cause global warming. And that is all a load of crap too, Step!!
Dollayo on May 21, 2008 at 10:13 PM
My sentiments exactly… on the global warming part especially. Who is Shep to say anything is a “load of crap” as it pertains to a cause for (the myth of) “global warming”, when he’s such a dismissive prick when dealing with those of us who aren’t idiots and realize what a “load of crap” global warming is.
RightWinged on May 21, 2008 at 10:18 PM
He worships at the church of ALGORE.
Shep is a tool and a freak. I lost all respect for him after Katrina.
conservnut on May 21, 2008 at 10:52 PM
Yea Hawkins is a nutcase and Shep is playing almighty.
He’s one of the reasons I quit watching Fox. Reporting
is something they have a hard time doing without blabbing
as much as some of their nutty quests.
Texyank on May 21, 2008 at 11:12 PM
And whats with sevenload. . . I takes forever to load-up.
Texyank on May 21, 2008 at 11:16 PM
watching Shep kick him off reminds me of the ‘Simpsons’ episode where Bart works at the brothel and Principle Skinner tells his folks about it.. he defends himself by saying ‘I only stopped in to ask for a way out.’..
DaveC on May 21, 2008 at 11:49 PM
Of course STDs cause global warming, because most people who have sex with cars do so with the motor running.
Shy Guy on May 21, 2008 at 11:58 PM
ShepShlup is as shlup does. Shep’s never worth the time.T J Green on May 22, 2008 at 12:10 AM
tut, Nancy Grace.
I don’t expect much from Shep, but don’t go that low, mate.

So that’s why they call it Studio B
Kini on May 22, 2008 at 2:37 AM
What what that idiot saying? Everyone knows that the prophet Muhammad has told us that global warming was due to the stoking of the hell fire down below.
Annar on May 22, 2008 at 7:11 AM
That was great.
Shep did well.
It’s not like he was ‘injecting his personal thoughts’
Sheesh. Who doesn’t know that Global warming doesn’t cause STD’s? LoL What a loon that ysrea…what’s his name? It’s probably Bob.
Good Job Shep!
bridgetown on May 22, 2008 at 9:41 AM
Shep, the real cry me a river kind of guy, reminds me a lot of Lindsey Graham.
el Vaquero on May 22, 2008 at 10:08 AM
Fox … fair and balanced.
Monkei on May 22, 2008 at 10:20 AM
This is still sweeps month…. isn’t it? By the way Shep, what global warming are you talking about? Since global warming doesn’t exist in the first place, I’d say your guest’s idea that its caused by STD’s are just about as valid and on par with the broader view among enviro-wackos that its caused by CO2.
Maxx on May 22, 2008 at 10:26 AM
Yeah, I know it’s yesterday’s post, but I gotta say that Shep lost me during his Katrina hysteria and I haven’t watched him since.
HotJavaJack on May 22, 2008 at 1:25 PM
STDs causing global warming is not more ludicrous than man causing it.
- The Cat
P.S. STD transmitted through the air are no longer ST, I’d say.
