Are conclusions this foregone liveblogworthy? No. Threadworthy? Sure! There’s bound to be something tasty in the exit polls, and think what fun we’ll have dissecting the media’s angst if Her Majesty manages to hang another 40-point blowout around the presumptive nominee’s neck. He’s going to clinch a majority of pledged delegates too, which adds some intrigue to their victory speeches later on. Will Hillary hint that the end is near? Or will she continue to rock on, perhaps punctuating her defiant address with a sassy, “See you in Puerto Rico, sucka”?
Back soon with data. While you wait, enjoy incompetent former Clinton campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle rubbing salt in the wounds she inflicted on Hillary; dissension in the ranks between Hillary aides who think it’s time to defect to Obama and diehards who have imbibed the proverbial Kool-Aid; and Richard Cohen with an uncharacteristically trenchant piece on why Hillary fights on. It’s all about the grittiness — in which case, er, what’s with the sudden whining about sexism?
Update: See what I mean?
According to CBS News early exit polling, in Kentucky, eight in ten Clinton voters said they would be dissatisfied if Obama was the Democratic nominee. Obama voters were about evenly split on whether they would be satisfied if Clinton got the nomination.
In Kentucky, just 33 percent of Clinton voters said they would back Obama in the general election if he is the Democratic nominee - 41 percent said they will vote for McCain, and another 23 percent say they won’t vote.
Update: The evening’s first foregone conclusion is in the books as the nets call Kentucky for Hillary. Here’s the full exit poll; based on the gender breakdown, she’s looking at roughly a 66/34 win with a 40-point spread among women. Interesting tidbit: Of the 42% of Democrats who say Obama shouldn’t pick Hillary as VP, fully half of them voted today for Hillary. I’m not sure how to interpret that. This is fun, too:

Racial polarization? Obama wins blacks 88/7, Hillary wins whites 72/22, with 21% of voters saying race was important (among whites who said so, Hillary won 86%). To put that in perspective for you, it’s a bigger margin among whites than she had in Mississippi. I wonder if this has anything to do with that:

Update: Here are the exits for Oregon. Gender breakdown says Obama should win by 10 points or so. Obama wins across almost all demographics, including white Democrats (whites made up 85% of all voters) and loses among white women by a single point. Only 12% say they’ll vote for McCain over Obama and only 10% say race was important to them — and of those, 51% voted for Obama.

We order ours on the net from Hawaii (mmmm… Kona). Costs only a tiny bit more than Folgers or something at the local grocery store, but smells and tastes SO much better. And they bring it right to the door.

You’re not old; you’re “mellow.” Anyway, that what the step uncle uses as his baby boomer euphemism for getting old {yep, he’s a lib}
The sad thing is not that coffee used to be 25 cents but that most college degrees are only worth about 25 cents in the real world.
Getting cranky - where are those “hopiates” from before - could use some, or stop posting….

Pass the popcorn, guys.
BTW, if anyone wants to join me for a nice day of cod fish fries, some arepas and a few other fried stuff with plenty of soda and fun in the sun while waiting for the Puerto Rican primary results, let me know. I’ll get the fryer ready! ;-)

By all means, do it! FYI for others, although I’m sure techno_barbarian already knows - the official Obama Campaign fonts are Gotham (sans serif) and Requiem (serif).
Interstate Bold and Trade Gothic Bold No. 2 could be semi-credible substitutes for Gotham, if they’re all you’ve got.
Looking forward to it. Excellent!

I agree that there’d be a bigger rift in the Democrat party, Sharpton et al would take to the streets, probably a riot or two. But she’d have a shot at winning the general against McCain. I just have a bad feeling about her.

KY final:

An arepa is a flour cake, that tastes like a tortilla if added the right combination of flour and lard or oil. It’s usually fried and served with cod fish or some other vegetable, like a yautia - all of it local food.

I think it’s supposed to be a sun rising above a corn field. Probably one of the Iowa panders from earlier in the campaign.

HRC 459,145 65%

I’ve been mulling it over and in my mind’s eye I see something in the (obviously) soviet-red background behind his head, which will take up most of the space (vertically oriented propaganda poster sized rect… it’s indistinct, but symbolically something to mimic the soviet sickle and hammer. When I go to my dark conspiracy theory corner I wonder if this whole thing was not orchestrated by Hillary to make her acceptable to Republicans. You know, Barack Obama does not really exist, Michelle Obama is an actress from Canada, etc.
This political landscape looks nothing like we thought it would just a few months ago (Dec 2007). I suspect it will really be different again after the conventions.

Mitt Romney 9,151 4.63%
Rudy Giuliani 3,126 1.58%
Observations:
1) McCain only got 5% more of the Republican Primary vote (72%) than Hillary got of Democrat Primary vote (67%).
2) Huckabee’s impromptu joke at the NRA may have cost him getting into double digits, but once again, Mike Huckabee beat the rest of the pack (Ron Paul, Uncommitted, Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani)

Ahh, I see that all the Obama brand-development focus-grouping has been somehow lost on you. What are you, some kind of rugged individual or something?
My professional take on it, from long years of experience:
Obama’s logo is perfectly positioned for, and deliberately evocative of, the personal care sector.
Personal care includes toothpastes, lotions, shavers, soaps, hair care, skin treatments and so on. My initial, and still, impression of the Obama logo is that it says, in essence, creamy shampoo. Good for you, and safe. Soothing, spa-like. Nice perfumed scent.
Those unfamiliar with the branding and advertising business may dismiss this take as ridiculous but those who’ve been in it will know exactly what I mean.
Those familiar with the cosmetics and personal care industries know that the differentiating factors are not the ingredients or the results, but just the marketing and packaging. The Obama camp is using this approach to a presidential campaign. I’m shocked anyone would fall for it, but they are.

I just learned a secrete about my grocery store. Every 4 to 6 weeks they put this coffee on sale Buy one get one Free. Sometime in between those sales they have one of those shelf coupon racks with $1.00, $1.50 or $2.00 coupons. The idea is for you to use the coupons when it is full price.
I take several coupons and hold them until the coffee goes back on Buy One Get One Free.
My goal is to get the Supermarket to pay me after totalling my groceries!

It is hard to believe the man could get beat like this in several states and still be the nominee. I know the Republicans are down about this year, but it seems to me the Democrats might have some real problems of their own to deal with. I think most Dems will get behind their nominee in the end, but some of them will vote for McCain and some of them just might not vote at all.

To many men, especially those beyond college age with accomplishments and families and experience of their own, certainly.
But to others, following the well-researched paths of personal care sector design, Obama’s logo and whole visual approach says:
- Self-enhancing
- Self-indulgent
- Status-enhancing
- Mass Luxury (anyone can have what the privileged elite/celebrities have - this is a HUGE component of Obama’s appeal)
- Soft (note the overuse of gradients and blurred edges)
- Comforting
- Good/Beneficial for you
- Safe
None of this is an accident. Anybody thinking “wolf in sheep’s clothing” has the right idea.

techno_barbarian on May 20, 2008 at 11:07 PM
That means Mike Huckabee is the supreme loser. He lost and he lost in KENTUCKY!! Kentucky is Huckabee country.
Let’s let look a few states Huckabee not only lost, but lost UGLY during the early part of the primary and at the height of Huckamania in the press.
California– 12% (500,000, yes One Half million votes behind Romney)
Colorado — 13%
Connecticut –7%
Maine –6%
Massachusetts –4%
Montana 15% — He finished BEHIND Ron Paul
Nevada 8% — Behind Ron Paul
New Hampshire — 11%
New Jersey –8%
New York — 11%
North Dakota — 20% Behind Ron Paul
Utah –2% Behind Ron Paul
Mike Huckabee came in BEHIND Ron Paul in 4 states. No other so-called “top tier candidate” was so soundly defeated in any state, much less in more than he won.
Let me explain this to you in very plain terms. A majority of Republicans do not like Mike Huckabee. This is why he did not get the nomination.
Huckabee took an extreme right turn from his record as Governor of Arkansas during the primaries. In so doing he decreased his popularity with folks in the middle and on the left. In order to win the general you have to have MOST of the Republicans and a good deal of independents and Democrats.
This is why Huckabee would never win a General Election.
You can fantasize about it all you want but Mike Huckabee will never be the president of The United States for another very simple reason, the more people see of him the less they like him.
