Video: Time for another disturbing Onion parody
posted at 7:50 pm on May 19, 2008 by Allahpundit
The disturbance is usually thematic; this time they did it with casting. Good lord, who is this woman and how did her arms get that spindly? I’m hoping against hope it was involuntary, possibly the result of her being in the hospital and on an IV for awhile and now recently released and convalescing. Otherwise … this is the comic equivalent of “Freaks,” isn’t it?
Incidentally, the (almost) no food diet? It works.

WTF? Freaks is a good one to bring up. It’s exploitation. And not very funny.
ivybelle1 on May 19, 2008 at 7:54 PM
Double dude.
She’s not healthy; but I guess she has a great sense of humor.
Still: dude.
SteveMG on May 19, 2008 at 7:54 PM
lol @ the chart. Bowling ball has 21 grams of fat! Haha.
At least this woman’s carbon footprint is small enough for BO.

Maybe she’s sick and just wants to have a good attitude about it.
Suddenly I don’t feel so bad about my extra pounds.
baldilocks on May 19, 2008 at 7:57 PM
That’s…painful.
Pent. on May 19, 2008 at 7:57 PM
Beer is food, AP.
lorien1973 on May 19, 2008 at 7:57 PM
Jeez, she looks like skeletor.
peski on May 19, 2008 at 7:59 PM
I hope she’s a recovering anorexic.
terryannonline on May 19, 2008 at 8:01 PM
If Michelle and Berry Obama have their way we will all look like her, if we are lucky. We all have to give up our piece of the pie you know, so somebody else can have it.

Do they have the fake media folks pegged or what???!? I love The Onion!
SouthernGent on May 19, 2008 at 8:02 PM
very, very, disturbing.
RMC1618 on May 19, 2008 at 8:04 PM
Looks like a meth addict to me. Brown teeth. Bones.
AZCON on May 19, 2008 at 8:05 PM
This is pretty horrible and not at all funny.

I like the bit about China at the beginning: you can bet that the Left (and the Onion, bless their hearts, is left) would not be mocking China if Bush were opposing them. Once upon a time, comedians on the Left could laugh at Iran, but if Bush calls them part of the Axis of Evil, then the Left will refuse to engage in any serious criticism of them. Bush engages with China (some rare Realpolitik from him) and suddenly leftist comedians (as those who make Little Bush) turn into Little John Derbyshires on the issue. (“Whatever he’s for, I’m against; and whatever he’s against, I’m for.”)
Tzetzes on May 19, 2008 at 8:14 PM
Could it be computer generated? I ask, hopefully.
But hey, if we follow Barry to Utopia, we too can look like that!
Buy Danish on May 19, 2008 at 8:16 PM
I’ll concede that it is very dark and sorta straddles the line, but I still laughed a little bit. I think the line about the Chinese Acrobats making you forget about their oppressive gov’t back home was the funniest part of the whole video.

The Darfur look is in?
mred on May 19, 2008 at 8:18 PM
Very, very disturbing.

Remember that Daily Kos article “I have a little crush Amadenijad”
terryannonline on May 19, 2008 at 8:23 PM
She’s probably just extremely skinny. I had a friend in college that was the ultimate “hard-gainer”. She couldn’t break 100 pounds and she was 5 foot 7.
Oh, and here’s a random link that’s only slightly on topic

Bulimics get discolored teeth, too. It’s, um, the effect of stomach acid on tooth enamel. I tried to find a less gross way to make the point, but I don’t think it can be done.

I wonder if Ace would “hit it”?
Seven Percent Solution on May 19, 2008 at 9:00 PM
“Freaks” is a terribly distressing movie. Not so much for the exploitation, but more for the “Gooble-gobble, gooble-gobble” business. And the chicken lady. I find even the “Kids In the Hall” chicken lady sketches disturbing, thanks to that movie.
flip on May 19, 2008 at 9:10 PM
Grotesque and unapologetic, I like it.
I don’t know, I seem to remember during the days of Clinton that Tibet and China’s human rights issues were fairly large issues for liberals.
SouthernDem on May 19, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Awesome.
Vizzini on May 19, 2008 at 9:49 PM
What is wrong with those people at the Onion? That was disturbing.

I had trouble getting past the Bank of America blurb before the move started. “Bank of America, Bank of Opportunity.” My family calls it the Bank of Illegals. Not only do they offer credit to illegals, they go out of their way to avoid asking for photo ID. I had to take out a cash advance last weekend and the BoA teller may have thought I was Hispanic. “We need to see a credit card and any other form of ID, it doesn’t have to be a license or any picture ID.” I offered my license and she was almost, dare I say, reluctant to take it. She again said, “It doesn’t have to be a picture ID.”
So, I guess if I found a wallet and wanted to take out a cash advance, as long as I had two different credit cards with the same name on them they would have been fine with that form of ‘identification’ ? Screw the BofA.
As to the video, I really hope this woman is in the recovery phase. I think she is, since she is fine with appearing in a video. Best of luck to her.
The Onion ROCKS!
cannonball on May 19, 2008 at 9:53 PM
Clarification: It was the weekend, my bank only has one branch across town and I needed the cash sooner than later. I do NOT have an account with that pos organization.
cannonball on May 19, 2008 at 9:55 PM
maybe she has cancer and got a fee to help her pay the bills…anyway, it is disturbing
Ropera on May 19, 2008 at 10:02 PM
Watched this earlier at the Onion, and thought ‘how can this poor woman be funny?’. Still the Onion can be very, very funny.
Tobias2012 on May 19, 2008 at 10:11 PM
Imagine how gaunt she must be in the flesh if a camera supposedly puts one weight.
onlineanalyst on May 19, 2008 at 10:17 PM
I’m not a doctor but most likely she suffers from Marfan Syndrome which has among its symptoms long spindly extremities.
mattshu on May 19, 2008 at 10:18 PM
Wow. i guess I have odd taste when it comes to humor…I didn’t even crack a smile during this video.
TheBlueSite on May 19, 2008 at 10:34 PM
quick throw her a Twinkie..
to second what someone said earlier, where did they find her?..
DaveC on May 19, 2008 at 10:35 PM
Gawd what a porker!
ronsfi on May 19, 2008 at 10:49 PM
She undoubtedly has a medical condition that causes her extreme skinniness (a malabsorption disease maybe) and was probably happy to get to use it to be funny. She probably hears about her weight where ever she goes, so it’s good to have a sense of humor about it.
Bad Penny on May 19, 2008 at 10:49 PM
Yes, it was then, as it is now, “safe” for them to do so. That is, they could/can criticize China without looking like they’re supporting a Republican.
Tzetzes on May 19, 2008 at 11:17 PM
I sometimes start chewing on my empty beer cans when I run out.
Is that so wrong?
gzelmiami on May 19, 2008 at 11:22 PM
This is simply wrong AP. Thanks.

I blame the chews.
Shy Guy on May 19, 2008 at 11:54 PM
That’s exactly what I thought after she said her very first line, because it was immediately obvious she had a great sense of humor about her condition, whatever the cause – and I laughed my ass off the whole video.
Fishoutofwater on May 20, 2008 at 1:58 AM
This must be some kind of therapy for this woman. Its got to be helping her realize how ridiculous it is.
Bladerunner1701 on May 20, 2008 at 4:39 AM
Kinda funny, but more for the dig at the self-righteous skinny chick on Fox News who generates tons of hate mail for telling people not to be accepting of overweight people.
James on May 20, 2008 at 5:13 AM
I don’t get it. Not funny at all.
ctmom on May 20, 2008 at 7:23 AM
We can’t all eat all we want and drive our SUV’s and keep our homes at 72 degrees and…my God, this is what the democrats what all of us to look like! Barry…Barry…Barry! You need to get a goofy looking sweater so that you can tell us all that a malaise as settled upon the country. Then we will run your ass out of town in 4 years and hopefully there will be a conservative in the wings ready to hoist the banner ala Reagan!

This woman is underweight certainly, but I’d diagnose facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy based on her upper arm wasting and facial profile.

I enjoy satire as much as the next person, however, I was more disturbed than entertained.
southsideironworks on May 20, 2008 at 10:00 AM
Was this woman forced to do this parody?
csdeven on May 20, 2008 at 1:21 PM
That is some funny SH** !
tx2654 on May 20, 2008 at 1:54 PM
Where did they find this sicko which does not make the parody work. She is eating herself from the inside out.
