Modern-day Murrow to Bush: “Shut the hell up!”

posted at 11:43 am on May 15, 2008 by Allahpundit
Send to a Friend | printer-friendly

As delivered it’s more like, “Shut! The hell! Up!” but I thought that’d scan poorly in the headline. I’ve written so many posts about these grotesque little spectacles of his that I’m plum out of things to say, but I thought I owed you the clip so here you go. The money line is in the very last few seconds; if you’re willing to sit through all of it, be on the lookout early on for how, and I quote, “Terrorism inside Iraq is your creation, Mr. Bush!” (The exclamation point is in MSNBC’s official transcript. Angry!) One nice touch in this one is the drumbeat of indignant “sirs” in the second half, Olby’s polite, old-fashioned (dare I say Murrowesque?) way of expressing contempt for his opponent — until his true nature gets the better of him and he unleashes that ridiculous final line.

For further reading, here’s the Olby Watch recap in which Johnny Dollar wonders how angry Olby would have been if Bush hadn’t given up golf. And here’s Ace’s post from yesterday anticipating this sort of entirely predictable, tedious left-wing meltdown and wondering what it is, precisely, that Barack Obama and Harry Reid have given up to express solidarity with the troops in Afghanistan. (Iraq is the bad war so they can’t be expected to give up anything for the troops stationed there.)

Whip em up Olby, yell and curse and scream…that is what your viewers respond to…yeah, Olby you are the man…

right2bright on May 15, 2008 at 11:47 AM

This demonstrates the ultimate in disrespect for the Presidency. The man is completely unhinged.

His constant “Mister Bush” and “sir” are particularly loathsome.

fossten on May 15, 2008 at 11:48 AM

I sure wish Olberman would shut the hell up. What a douchebag.

kirkill on May 15, 2008 at 11:48 AM

Unforgivable. Yep, that’s Olbermann. Unforgivable.

HotJavaJack on May 15, 2008 at 11:48 AM

It’s one thing to disagree, to protest, or to argue. It’s quite another to spend 12 minutes virtually cursing out the President Of The United States Of America on television. I don’t care if Olby wants to bitch, piss and moan about policy etc, but he’s really crossing over a line of common decency here that MSNBC really shouldn’t ignore.

Tim Zank on May 15, 2008 at 11:49 AM

When Hank Jr. sang, “I’d like to spit some Beech-nut in that dude’s eye and shoot him with my old .45…”, he must have had someone like KO in mind.

Al-Ozarka on May 15, 2008 at 11:49 AM

Sounds like Olby’s rating are slipping again.

I haven’t watched this yet, but I will, because the special comments are beyond parody. They’re hilarious.

Similarly pathetic but not quite as funny, former Senator Gary Hart called neocons Nazis in his HuffPo column today.

He makes me sick. How can he continue to spew his venom and hate. MSNBC has no credibility as long as they continue to employ such a fool.

Weebork on May 15, 2008 at 11:52 AM

Yeah, ok, he’s an idiot, a hack, and a mostly empty suit. Still, you have to admit that, unlike most of the MSM, he doesn’t seem to pretend to any kind of objectivity or neutrality. He’s sort of like the NY Times without the fig leaf.

I like the way the play button looks like a big piece of tape across his mouth, which is exactly what he needs. And if he were worthy of being listened to, (which he isn’t) pushing that start button would be like giving him a virtual punch in the face.

That is as annoying as his little squealing drug-addled diatribes.

Remember the good news. GE owns NBC/MSNBC etc. GE stock is doing terribly. Their uber-lib CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, is in the hot seat, and likely to lose his job. GE is about to sell it’s over 100 year old appliance line due to the need for $. Unlike the NYT, GE is a truly public company. Don’t expect this insanity to prevail there forever. I expect GE to bail on NBC/MSNBC after the Olympics.

Journalism Have you seen MSNBC’s recent home page?

“BUSH INVOKES HITLER ON ATTACK ON OBAMA” right next to the video of O’Reilly and a caption of “When anchors (bleep) up”

The country is now, officially, out of control and the lunatics are in charge.

God help us all.

And YOU Mr. Olberman are the hero of Al Qaida and Al Jazeera. Your words embolden all of our enemies and disgust Americans.

Other countries at least respect the office of the leadership. You can disagree if you would like, but I would appreciate if you understood that everyone isn’t free. America is free. But in Iraq, if you said this stuff about Hussein - well you wouldn’t because you’d be dead early. That is freedom. It isn’t a word, and everyone around the world doesn’t have it. Iraq has it now because of our military. You won’t recognize that, you won’t appreciate that, you despise American victory and the spread of freedom worldwide.

I can’t listen to it. It isn’t informative.

He exemplifies the spitting mad, irrational, emotional liberal that so obviously thinks he is smarter than everyone else.

Olbermann was only useful/entertaining when he called Greg Gutfeld the worser person in the world. Then Gutfeld, his Mom, and Levy mocked him mercilessly. I have noticed that Gut hasn’t been called the worst person in the world yet. I’m sure that he’s quite disappointed by that.

Otherwise, Olbermann is of no use to the real world.

mjk on May 15, 2008 at 12:33 PM

Even for Olby, this is over the top. But I’m starting to wonder if this isn’t more about fame and notoriety than it is about the political views he’s espousing. I mean, this guy has become a GOD amongst the nutroots community. Everyone needs a pathway to fame and Olby was merely remembered as “that guy who used to be on Sportscenter” before he seized upon the Bush bashing. Maybe he just recognized that it was his quickest ticket to stardom and folk hero status, so he took it.

I like that he snuck “reality-based” in there….

Since the Olbys actually believe their cue cards, they truly can’t see past the MSM script. It is their reality. Altered state though it be, they WILL force it upon the world to accept.

Stunting MSM satellite data by boycotting their programs is reason enough to deny Olberman into our home. But our reason to refuse him televised entry is that he has no place in our abode other than snarking him online.

Beyond actively countering their banter with vital statistics, the MSM rationale neglecting to report thorough research or balanced perspectives can on the other hand be trumped by the audience neglect to watch and choice to ignore the MSM.

Then they wonder why the country is divided — you have a left wing loon ranting and granting others like him the ability to voice themselves in anger, not in dialogue.

And YOU Mr. Olberman are the hero of Al Qaida and Al Jazeera. Your words embolden all of our enemies and disgust Americans.

What do you mean?

General consensus among bad guys..

Before 9-11: US army is invincible
After 9-11: US army can get bogged down for 7 to 10 years in a war without a clear victory. Leader of bad guys can get away with it.

In the weeks following the invasion of Iraq, when signs of the insurgency began to emerge in the destruction of Iraqi government infrastructure and widespread looting, the prevailing belief on the Arab street was that the US had a specific plan to allow those events to occur, to intentionally destroy Iraq. After the first Gulf War, America was seen as both smart and deadly effective.

Before 9-11, gas was cheap and joining a terrorist network was akin to joining a lost cause against an unbeatable enemy. Post 9-11, the bad guys have hope and actually believe that they are on the road to victory. If that isn’t an incredible recruiting tool, then what is? And who’s the real hero of al Qaeda?

Read the transcript on NB earlier today. He is beyond unhinged and just a nasty person. I think TMZ has more credibility than this guy and MSLSD.

I wish someone would have a teleprompter malfunction during one of these rants, so he can get the Charles Barkley treatment.

So far, this guy owns 1-9 in the top 10 moments of TV Douchebaggery.

# 10 is a tie between Cronkite, Rather, Matthews, Williams and Gregory.

Ok, I have two questions for you:

a) what have you been smoking, and
b) where can I get some?

That’s a rather…ummm…what’s the word? rosy, yeah, rosy recap. How’s al Qaeda in Iraq doing these days? and al Sadr’s Mahdi “army”?

Join the Jihad! The Few, The Proud, The Dead! yeah, great recruiting slogan you got there…

Whip em up Olby, yell and curse and scream…that is what your viewers respond to…

What viewers?

Good point. I think the handful of Newsbusters staff keeping an eye on him more than doubles his viewership.
