Modern-day Murrow to Bush: “Shut the hell up!”

posted at 11:43 am on May 15, 2008 by Allahpundit

As delivered it’s more like, “Shut! The hell! Up!” but I thought that’d scan poorly in the headline. I’ve written so many posts about these grotesque little spectacles of his that I’m plum out of things to say, but I thought I owed you the clip so here you go. The money line is in the very last few seconds; if you’re willing to sit through all of it, be on the lookout early on for how, and I quote, “Terrorism inside Iraq is your creation, Mr. Bush!” (The exclamation point is in MSNBC’s official transcript. Angry!) One nice touch in this one is the drumbeat of indignant “sirs” in the second half, Olby’s polite, old-fashioned (dare I say Murrowesque?) way of expressing contempt for his opponent — until his true nature gets the better of him and he unleashes that ridiculous final line.

For further reading, here’s the Olby Watch recap in which Johnny Dollar wonders how angry Olby would have been if Bush hadn’t given up golf. And here’s Ace’s post from yesterday anticipating this sort of entirely predictable, tedious left-wing meltdown and wondering what it is, precisely, that Barack Obama and Harry Reid have given up to express solidarity with the troops in Afghanistan. (Iraq is the bad war so they can’t be expected to give up anything for the troops stationed there.)

I wouldn’t pi$$ on Olberman if he was on fire. Heck, I might break out the hot dogs…

It MUST be said:

Remember the good news. GE owns NBC/MSNBC etc. GE stock is doing terribly. Their uber-lib CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, is in the hot seat, and likely to lose his job. GE is about to sell it’s over 100 year old appliance line due to the need for $. Unlike the NYT, GE is a truly public company. Don’t expect this insanity to prevail there forever. I expect GE to bail on NBC/MSNBC after the Olympics.

JiangxiDad on May 15, 2008 at 11:58 AM

Here’s the link to email GE and tell them what you think. I wouldn’t bother emailing MSNBC because they’d think they have 15 viewers instead of 12.

Olberman has to know he is now practically preaching to the choir. Other than presenting this ridiculous rant of him here, I doubt if anyone else was actually his show live. The man has no audience, with the exception of maybe three people who have yet to get back on their medication.

It is amazing (and amusing) to see liberals act out what they accuse conservatives of doing. They have to lie to call Bush a liar. They claim the Republicans ‘stole’ 2000 when it was the Democrats doing everyting they could to cheat and steal the presidency.

It is all about projecting their own actions and morality on everyone else. They believe everyone else acts like them so they justify their bad behavior. When caught and cornered their final defense is “eveyone else does it”. Hillary defends her attacks on Obama by accusing the Republicans of using the same tactics – in the future.

When a liberal attacks, you know they are revealing themselves and who they are. They are always looking in a mirror.

Damn, overlooked that while skimming through the commentary. Is this some sort of a new policy on HA? You link to a story and then just randomly lie about what’s in it?

First off, he didn’t quit playing golf. Hence, you know, his picture with a golf club 2 months after he made that statement.

Secondly, imagine you’re eating a cake, and the news comes that your mother is dead. While it’s factually true that as soon as you heard the news, you put the cake away, saying it quite that way isn’t very appropriate. If it’s not clear to someone why that is, they need much more work than I could offer in a single post.

Where did this moron come from? What’s his journalistic background? I know, at PMSNBC it doesn’t matter, but my GOD!

Do his regular viewers really admire this guy?

Conservaboomer on May 15, 2008 at 3:51 PM

Day 135 from last time your dark, decrepit visage of a human being darkened my television screen. You Mr. Olbermann have become a senile, sick, delusional sycophant of the left. You have demonstrated time and again that not a single fiber in your pathetic, jingoistic spewing, hate filled body contains a fiber which could be identified as belonging to that of a journalist. Mr. Olbermann, you are a broken record whose only existence appears to be to emit the nightly siren-like shrill cries moans you inflict on the nation but increasingly only fall upon your equally delusional and diminishing audience. I must ask you sir, the nation is listening, when will you end your increasingly tiresome and monotonous diatribe and allow someone other than a committee of infants you call your staff to write your monotonous monologue? Your inability to change pitch or tune has left the nation with only two conclusions, sir. Either your servile network does not have to have the courage or will to tell the emperor that he is wearing no clothes or that they are incapable of recognizing that your broadcast have become a cruel, farcical joke. A joke that you have consciously, with malice and forethought played upon our great Republic. Mr. Olbermann, you owe it to the network, to those you’ve injured, your so-called profession and more importantly, you owe it to the nation. Sir, when will you stop this insanity?

moxie_neanderthal on May 15, 2008 at 3:55 PM

Do his regular viewers really admire this guy?

A little bit more than that, to be honest.

Like this, for instance, from the Kos site.

the delivery was as beautiful and passionate as Mozart’s music.

Rick on May 15, 2008 at 4:03 PM

Twelve minutes???

Good grief.

Yannow, if SNL writers were more on the ball, they’d already have written half a dozen skits about Olby.

I envision Darrell Hammond…screaming, beat-red face…chunks of spittle flying at the screen…slowly filling it until you see nothing more than a oozing, globby mess.

The Ugly American on May 15, 2008 at 4:07 PM

Alright… What I was trying to say is this. Olbermann obviously didn’t criticize the very fact that Bush had quit golf (which he hadn’t but that’s beside the point here). What he (and I) found obscene is bringing it up in the context of the question.

Hence my apparently unclear analogy. If your eat a cake and then learn of the death of your mother, you will obviously stop eating the cake. However, if someone later asks you: what was your reaction when you heard the news? “I put the cake away” will be a very, very wrong answer. Not because it’s factually false but because it shouldn’t be the first thing that comes to your mind.

Does your champion go after the Democratically controlled Congress, who took over 2 years ago and have done nothing since but let things go straight to hell, and happen to have worse poll numbers than the President? And most people here that are commenting, make jokes about Olby because his commentary is so factually flawed. As Allah pointed out above:

I’ve written so many posts about these grotesque little spectacles of his that I’m plum out of things to say, but I thought I owed you the clip so here you go.

If you really know the facts, all you can do is laugh at the reality that Olby is so consumed by hatred for Bush, a/k/a BDS. I mean, seriously, do you really think that Bush force fed intelligence to all the other countries that had the same intelligence we did? Not to mention everything else that was going on at that time as well. If you disagree with the fact that we went to war in the first place, that’s fine, but don’t distort the facts that led up to the war, and all that’s gone on since.

Rick on May 15, 2008 at 5:01 PM

My blood pressure did not appreciate that.

What the heck is he so mad about? All Bush did was answer questions. As biased as that douchebag is, not even the most brilliant answer would have satisfied him.

How come all those other countries that you claim had the same intel aren’t part of the coalition except for Great Briton? Could it be that the admin shared only part of the intel, and the other countries ran with it figuring there might be a chance the admin was right and didn’t want to be caught with there pants down? After all, the US probably spends on intel what all the other countries combined do. You also forget the Downing Street Memo that the intel was being fixed. And numerous ex-admin officials that say the admin had a hot nut for Iraq since 1/20/00. You also forgot about con-man Chalabi and his CIA supported INC, and his boy Curveball.

Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Iran were all against invading Iraq. These countries all border Iraq but they didn’t feel threatened. Why? Iran suffered SH’s WMD’s in the 80’s but was against the invasion. How do you explain that? They all have intel agencies that could slip agents into Iraq better then the US could.

Those that think SH was harboring terrorist in Iraq need to get a clue. You play up the story that Zarqawi received medical attention in Iraq as if SH knew about it. It would be very easy, and I’m sure it’s happened, for a narco terrorist to slip across the Mexican border to seek medical attention here in the US. Would that mean the US supports narco terrorist? The Iraqi document dump showed SH was concerned about Zarqawi
being in Iraq. And the United States deliberately turned down several opportunities to kill Zarqawi in the lead-up to the Iraq war. WHY? If there were terrorist in Iraq they were in the northern Kurdish region which was out of SH’s control because of the “no fly zones”.

Like I said earlier, there is a lot of Attention Deficit Disorder here, a lack of comprehension and common sense. Typical of BCS affliction.

Chimpy on May 15, 2008 at 8:23 PM

That BDS crap got old about 3 years ago. It was replaced by BCS here. Bush Cult Syndrome. If you still think BDS is appropriate then over ¾ of Americans are afflicted which makes you the lunatic fringe.

You mean the Muslim countries – gee, I wonder why they opposed it? Ya think that maybe, just maybe, they were cheering quietly? They sure didn’t object much at the time. In fact, your party (obviously, the Dems) were acting like a bunch of hawks themselves, yapping away about going after Saddam if he didn’t comply with the UN resolutions. The rest of your comments are just your opinions, which you have obviously, just like Olby, thrown out there with nothing to support them. Come back when you and your boy Olby have some hard facts, and not just ridiculous allegations.

Right! In 2002, no one knew the name Zarqawi. He hadn’t killed, spectacularly, a bunch of Americans and Muslims in the name of his god. He hadn’t insisted on the elimination of traitors and apostates in Iraq because he knew Saddam hadn’t any interest in him as a terrorist, other than giving him money and training. Zarqawi, in 2002, was pretty much a lower level Louie in al Qaeda. There were many dozens of higher priority than he was then.

So if I was President, why the Hell would I be bothering with operations to kill one unsubstantial terrorist in Iraq, when I was trying to find and kill bin Ladin and al Zawahiri?

Thanks for proving what an idiotic airhead you are, Chimpy. I’m sure the moniker fits you much better than it fits anyone named Bush.
