The good: It’s supposedly standalone monster-of-the-week fare, not the tedious, convoluted “mythology” nonsense. The bad: They’re keeping the plot secret, thus relegating the trailer to the sort of paint-by-numbers thriller tropes you see here. The ugly: Scully with long hair? If she doesn’t end up with that ice-queen bob then the terrorists have already won.
Can’t say that this is going to get me off the couch and down to the multiplex, honestly.

I’ll probably go out of curiosity. I loved X-Files.
Agreed about the hair though!
Bring back the thinking man’s babe Scully do!
Sarjex on May 14, 2008 at 2:08 PM
Yeah I’ll go. Probably. I mean X-Files, you gotta go right?
Dash on May 14, 2008 at 2:11 PM
X-Files was awesome until they brought in T-1000 to replace Mulder.
But I have to agree with Allah, Scully looked a lot hotter with short hair.
But Gillian Anderson is still hot and by the looks of it didn’t age a day either. Hmmm…

“I Want to Believe”
It’s what liberals chant over and over in their heads before they watch MSM propoganda.

The truth is out there.
My collie says:
How would you know? You’re a dog, remember?
Hmmm. Mulder might be interested to know that I have a talking dog.

Looks like global cooling is killing mankind, one at a time.
I liked the long hair.
AZCON on May 14, 2008 at 2:19 PM
Saw the trailer last night. Hope it’s better than the first craptastic movie. Maybe Moulder meets up with an octogenarian Indiana Jones in this one to do battle with a super-human Richard Dryfuss who wants to destroy an ancient Aboriginal artifact after returning to earth with those big-headed aliens from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
robblefarian on May 14, 2008 at 2:19 PM
Yum! I loves me some David Duchovny!!!!
Nolamom67 on May 14, 2008 at 2:22 PM
X-Files? Ugh!
Too much angst, multiple levels of cover-up miasma.
Of course, it makes the current Battlestar Galactica look good.
SeniorD on May 14, 2008 at 2:22 PM
Mehhh.
The creepiest episode ever was the 3 inbred brothers living the in the farm house with their “torso” mother on a sliding cart under the bed. They took turns romancing her.
Best. Evah.
natesnake on May 14, 2008 at 2:23 PM
I like T-1000 in the X-Files. The problem was instead of standalone episodes with T-1000 and Scully, every week dealt with Mulder, mentioned Mulder, longed for Mulder. I don’t really recall how the series ended which is probably best.
Canadian Infidel on May 14, 2008 at 2:23 PM
The movie wasn’t bad per se. What made the movie mediocre was that it was a 2 hr episode.
Lance Murdock on May 14, 2008 at 2:24 PM
I’ve lost all interest in the X-Files over the years. Considering the fact that I’ve got Millennium Season Three sitting in my stack of DVD’s to watch, my standards have not risen too high. Even when all 9 seasons dropped to about $160 on sale a few months ago, I had zero interest in buying.
rw on May 14, 2008 at 2:24 PM
Best. Evah.
natesnake on May 14, 2008 at 2:23 PM
Agreed. And it was banned for a while from Fox after some vocal disgust but I did eventually see it in reruns.
Canadian Infidel on May 14, 2008 at 2:25 PM
I Want to Believe that this movie isn’t going to suck.
I suspect I will be disappointed.
natesnake on May 14, 2008 at 2:26 PM
I want to believe, too! Don’t go to movies often, but I’ll be there for this one.

natesnake on May 14, 2008 at 2:23 PM
Agreed, I believe the episode was called “Home” and was ranked very high on the list of best X-Files shows.
Bishop on May 14, 2008 at 2:27 PM
That’s what they did the whole time after Mulder left the show. Thank G-d I stop watching then. But if you like it that way, okay then.
Lance Murdock on May 14, 2008 at 2:27 PM
Sorry . It had to be done for:
;)
Pilgrim on May 14, 2008 at 2:27 PM
Personally, I always like the stand alone episodes that had nothing to do with the overall conspiracy.
Lance Murdock on May 14, 2008 at 2:30 PM
Oh and Gillian with the long hair….oh yes, me likey lots the womens with the long hair.

Too funny! :>)

Who’s the guy with the long white hair? Is it that Lone Gunmen guy? I thought he was dead. Is it Brent Spiner reprising his mad scientist role in Independence Day? I thought he was dead too. Is it Snake Pliskin? I thought he was dead.
ncc770 on May 14, 2008 at 2:35 PM
Meh. I dug the first three seasons of Xfiles, but then they got way too deep into covering up a coverup that covered up a coverup that covered up a conspiracy within the government. I basically sighed, said “enough” and moved onto something else.
crazy_legs on May 14, 2008 at 2:35 PM
Good trailer, but I am really looking forward to “Hancock,” the anti-super hero.

Ok, sooooo, aren’t they unearthing this a little late?
I smell a gigantic turd.

Scully is hot in the long hair. How did you capture the subliminal 42 nanosecond image for the front page?
Valiant on May 14, 2008 at 2:47 PM
I’m not too worried about Scully’s hair.
X-Files! w00t! =D
loganthompson on May 14, 2008 at 2:49 PM
That’s exactly what I said when I heard that they were doing a second movie.
I love Dana Scully. She’s smart, tough and a former physics major. What’s not to like. Gillian though, is an enormous flake. But I’ve still got the hots for her. It’s just sad.
I’ll be there opening night because I am a complete and total dork. Also, I want to get the awful taste of seasons 8 & 9 out of mouth.
Physics Geek on May 14, 2008 at 2:53 PM
The stand-alone episodes with Robert Patrick (T-1000) were pretty good. My favorite episode was “Field Trip”.
Krychek on May 14, 2008 at 2:55 PM
.
I’m with you - I only know of the show from friends, as I switched off network tv for good in the 80’s, and never saw a single episode
Think_b4_speaking on May 14, 2008 at 2:56 PM
I’ll likely see it second or third week on a Sunday afternoon.
I won’t pay full ticket price for that clip.
natesnake on May 14, 2008 at 3:02 PM
A little agent Reyes (Anabeth Gish) would’ve helped that trailer out.
Krychek on May 14, 2008 at 3:10 PM
ncc770? Is that you? I thought you were dead.

It looks like Billy Connely.

Ugh, Billy Connelly. Definitely NOT going to see this now or ever. Is he ever going to get a haircut?

The creepiest episode ever was the 3 inbred brothers…
Where do you think Obama got his impression of rural people?
drunyan8315 on May 14, 2008 at 3:17 PM
I loved the “mythology” episodes and hated “monster-of-the-week”.
pseudonominus on May 14, 2008 at 3:21 PM
That collie is one of the most consistently clever commenters here. Hmmm.
ncc770 on May 14, 2008 at 3:27 PM
Anybody check out the spread of Dana Scully in Maxim magazine last month? Wow. I’ll be seeing this for sure as my wife is a huge X-Files fan.
saltydogg14 on May 14, 2008 at 3:28 PM
The title is terrible, but the trailer actually looks better than I would’ve expected, and the long hair works. If they take the tact of telling an actual story (”The Wrath of Khan”) rather than that of simply getting the cast back together for old times’ sake (”The Undiscovered Country”), maybe it’ll even be good.
Blacklake on May 14, 2008 at 3:33 PM
No. Noooo!!!
Will Smith and his best freind, CGI.
pseudonominus on May 14, 2008 at 3:33 PM
Hey, just when I had completely suppressed that episode from my memory, you bring it up again. That’s another good night’s sleep I’m never gonna get back.
I wanna know what the collie thinks.
manwithblackhat on May 14, 2008 at 3:37 PM
Ok, I’m a lot more bothered by Mulder’s mop than Scully’s long hair. Trailer was kinda..lame. I think the knock off fake drama trailer on you tube of When Harry Met Sally was actually scarier.
Monster of the week epidsodes kicked the mythlogy’s a**. My favorite was the vampire colony that moved around in mobile homes. Luke Wilson played a sherriff in that episode. It was hysterical.
The commenter with the collie; I hope you gave a hat tip to Jonah Goldberg at some point; he was using his couch and his dog Cosmo in a similar capacity some years ago when he was writing G-files for National Review Online shortly after they started up. It’s a good bit but it’s been done before. Look for an interview Cosmo did with Pervez Musharraf and Kim Jong Il.

I loved watching the X-Files back in the 1990’s. It was a really creative and interesting show to watch. The problem is the effect it had on any weak-minded, conspiracy theorist type since it stop airing long ago. Star Wars had it groupies, Star Trek had it’s Trekkies. Unfortunately, I think X-Files had a profound effect on every paranoid (Code Pink, Bush-haters), conspiracy driven (9/11 truthers), irrational & egocentric Fox Mulder wannabe out there who the showed inspired to be even more crazier than they already were. I’m not a “trust the government” guy, but the extend that show emboldened and empowered is off the chart.
Planet Boulder on May 14, 2008 at 3:48 PM
I’m the opposite. I was deep into the show, bordering on obsessive, but it got too scattered and I stopped caring, especially after Mulder left.
SouthernDem on May 14, 2008 at 3:53 PM
Is that “Leoben” from Battlestar Galactica?
I figured out the plot. A remake of Battlestar 1980. How the Cylons colonize the Earth with 6 billion new humans to play with.
Agrippa2k on May 14, 2008 at 3:55 PM
I liked both the mythology and monster episodes, although I think they bumped off “Deep Throat” too early. Two scenes come to mind from the monster of the week genre.
One episode concerned an army of little robot cockroaches. At one point, just at random, they ran a little cockroach accross the screen, so it looked like you actually had a roach in your house and on your TV. My wife jumped out of her skin.
In another episode, Mulder and Scully are investigating deaths near a carnival side/freak show. It’s early in the morning and Scully, dressed only in a robe, bumps into a guy, also dressed only in a robe. The robes loosen slightly, exposing his little brother (an actual sibling, not a euphemism) growing out of his chest, and the side of her breast. They both just stand there, riveted, and staring at the other’s exposed body.
ncc770 on May 14, 2008 at 3:59 PM
I believe that episode was Humbug….one of their best.
Sarjex on May 14, 2008 at 4:14 PM
Long Red Hair — Thumbs Up
tommylotto on May 14, 2008 at 4:18 PM
You can’t top the Lone Gunmen episodes … except with the Cher-loving mutant ep, the baseball-loving alien ep, and the Mulder-goes-back-in-time-to-WWII ep. Oh, and Charles Nelson Reilly in “Jose Chung’s ‘From Outer Space’” - hilarious!
Rosmerta on May 14, 2008 at 4:22 PM
Wasn’t there already an X-Files movie? Yawn. Hollywood is so unoriginal anymore. Everything is a remake of an old movie or a TV show
Hunt035 on May 14, 2008 at 4:27 PM
I always thought X-Files was what Twin Peaks should have been.
kiakjones on May 14, 2008 at 4:40 PM
I also liked the episode where the lake monster (actually a large alligator) eats Scully’s dog. The scene in that episode where they sink their boat and end up stranded on a rock is absolutely classic.
trigon on May 14, 2008 at 4:58 PM
Man, that was a LONG 90 seconds.
I want my money back.
logis on May 14, 2008 at 5:24 PM
My wife still has nightmares about that one. Seriously.
tlynch001 on May 14, 2008 at 5:30 PM
Me too. Like the one with the genie who granted wishes to stupid people, but always with a sadistic twist. Mulder eventually wishes that she get her wish, which is to spend the rest of her life people-watching and sipping coffee. Or something. That was cool.
Or the fantastic episode about the blind girl (played by the awesome Lili Taylor) who “saw” her criminal dad’s crimes and eventually killed him. But got sick of the conspiracy thingy taking over the series so I stopped watching.
inviolet on May 14, 2008 at 5:34 PM
Ok, explain me this mystery. Gillian Anderson = Not Hot, but Dana Scully = Hot. Why is this?
Maybe there is something to this personality and brains thing. . . or is it the gun?
- The Cat
P.S. Billy Connelly?
MirCat on May 14, 2008 at 6:09 PM
BILLY CONNELLY! The first X-files thing I ever pay attention to? Probably not, but that makes it a tad better. I wonder if one of the Patrick brothers (yes, can’t remember his first name) will be in it too
Scully still looks hawt.
..
BILLY CONNELLY!

Can’t wait to see this. I saw GA, DD and CC at WonderCon in SanFran and I’m really jazzed.

I was a huge X Files fan and will definitely go watch this one, even though the trailer isn’t particularly enticing.
Hey Allah, btw. Scully is the ultimate beta male ass-tap.

Oh, I’m so there. I’m an X-Files tragic from the beginning and I’ve just started watching Season 8 on DVD which I’m beginning to warm to. According to the back cover blurb of the movie novelization the film plot is as follows:
– Nora
The Thin Man Returns on May 14, 2008 at 11:15 PM
Um, he did. In 2006. For his role as an undead zombie manservant in “Fido,” a role he could have resurrected for an X-Files movie.
