NARAL: Obama’s our candidate of choice; Update: Major endorsement tonight; Update: EMILY’s List rips NARAL

The perfect endorsement on a day when an image of the Messiah beneath the cross graces the top of the Drudge Report. Not to worry: Doug Kmiec’s already assured us that he’s going to listen hard to the pro-life side before he goes ahead and appoints pro-choice judges anyway. Any good “post-partisan” politician would do the same.

“Pro-choice Americans have been fortunate to have two strong pro-choice candidates in Senator Obama and Senator Clinton, both of whom have inspired millions of new voters to participate in this historic presidential race,” NARAL president Nancy Keenan said in a statement. “Today, we are proud to put our organization’s grass-roots and political support behind the pro-choice candidate whom we believe will secure the Democratic nomination and advance to the general election. That candidate is Senator Obama.”

Officials said NARAL’s political committee board was about evenly divided among Clinton and Obama supporters and that the decision to endorse was hard fought. Ultimately, the board voted unanimously to support the Illinois senator…

They said the board decided to back Obama over Clinton because he is overwhelmingly favored to win the nomination and to heal what the organization viewed as a growing rift between black voters and white female activists that the protracted Clinton-Obama contest may have caused.

Needless to say, I’m sure the timing of this was orchestrated by Team Barry as a little morning-after abortion of Her Majesty’s West Virginia buzz. (And the afternoon is still young…) Exit question: Which big subject-changing endorsement will be rolled out next week after she crushes him by 30 points in Kentucky? The Goracle’s? Code Pink’s? Place your bets.

Update: Marc Ambinder says the Obama’s camp going to roll out a big name tonight. Not hard to guess who.

Update: EMILY’s List unloads on NARAL. Chaos:

“I think it is tremendously disrespectful to Sen. Clinton - who held up the nomination of a FDA commissioner in order to force approval of Plan B and who spoke so eloquently during the Supreme Court nomination about the importance of protecting Roe vs. Wade - to not give her the courtesy to finish the final three weeks of the primary process. It certainly must be disconcerting for elected leaders who stand up for reproductive rights and expect the choice community will stand with them.”

I’m going with them, Atlas Shrugged. May Obama win, and may the Congress double its liberal size, house and senate. I wish it on every liberal and on every conservative.

“Pro-choice” … I just love euphemisms for “extermination of children in the womb.”

It’s so like the Nazi use of “final solution.”

I have a question for the Obamassiah.

Would he support Mary’s right to abort Jesus minutes before his birth? At any time?

EJDolbow on May 14, 2008 at 2:42 PM

In this one area, I’m pretty sure Obama knows of what he speaks. If I’m not mistaken, his wife is some kind of highly paid “community organizer” at a Chicago hospital. Surely, she could have arranged for her husband to see one of those partial birth/live birth abortions she and her husband so forcefully support.

JiangxiDad on May 14, 2008 at 2:42 PM

I keep looking for Senator Obama to move toward me, you know, in the spirit of Unity. (Or should that be Holy Spirit of Unity?) It ain’t there. I feel like a tool.

Bill: At my cousin Ruthie’s wedding, the groom’s brother was that guy Alakazam. You know who I’m talking about?

Stan: The magician with the ponytail?

Bill: Right. Well, he did his act, and every time he made something disappear, Vinny jumped on him. I mean, he nailed him! It was like, “it’s in his pocket”, or “he’s palming it”, you know? Or, “there’s a mirror under the table.” I mean, he was like, he was like, “wait a second, wait a second, it’s joined in the middle, and there’s a spring around it, it pops it open when it’s inside the tube.” It was like Alakazam’s worst nightmare.

Watch his video to Planned Parenthood on YouTube. :{

The Illinois senator said: “I’ve got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.

Chakra Hammer on May 14, 2008 at 2:44 PM

Make no mistake about it. Obama is not just pro-choice. He is radically pro-abortion.

I can’t believe I have been forced to give a $hit what a pseudointellectual left wing commie pinko thinks about abortion.

Thanks democtat party.

It’s already bad enough I have to endure Capt’n Amnesty as the best candidate the GOP can trowel up.

No, we can’t beat him on that issue. This goes to the heart of the problem facing the GOP. You can’t attack your opponent without offering solid alternatives that can be articulated. There is no republican brand except attacking the democrats plans and ideas without providing your own.

I can’t believe it, but it looks to me like obama is listing about 30 degrees. It’s beginning to smell like that dirt bag Hillary just might pull it off.

If Obama becomes tainted goods at the end of the primaries, and the super deligates are spooked, crazy things could happen at the convention.

I’ll bow to your opinion. Frankly, politics isn’t my strongest suit. And you’re quite right about the need for the Reps. to have a philosophy. I was thinking of those Dems. who might vote for McCain this year, but are pro-abortion. I thought it might help McCain to point out that Obama is an extremist on this issue.

Makes perfect sense, especially when you consider the “Christian” theology that is taught at Obama’s “church” — which states that if God isn’t on the black man’s side, then the faithful should kill God.

In 1997 Obama voted “present” on two bills aimed at banning so-called partial-birth abortion. In 2001 he voted “present” on three bills that fell under the rubric of “born-alive infant” legislation, and on a bill to require parental notification in cases when minors sought to have abortions.

Additionally, in 1997, Obama voted “present” on a proposal to drop the penalty for carrying a concealed gun from a felony to a misdemeanor.

On the narrower issue of “born alive” infants, Sutherland said, Planned Parenthood of Illinois worked last year with the anti-abortion group, the Illinois Federation of Right to Life, to pass legislation that protects infants that survive abortion procedures.

But Stanek said Obama was the only state senator to speak out on the legislation, and his actions there are “just one demonstration of how liberal he is.”

He had a 100 percent rating from the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council for his support of abortion rights, family planning services and health insurance coverage for female contraceptives.

Obama occasionally supported higher taxes, joining other Democrats in pushing to raise more than 300 taxes and fees on businesses in 2004 to help solve a budget deficit. The increases passed the Senate 30-28.

Obama’s state senate votes on some key issues:

BUDGET & TAXES=

# Voted to raise the minimum wage in Illinois from $5.15 an hour to $6.50 an hour over two years. (2003)
# Helped pass a 5 percent earned-income tax credit for low-income working families in 2000; made the credit permanent in 2003.
# Voted to end $300 million worth of tax breaks for businesses. (2004)
# Voted against making permanent the repeal of the state’s 5 percent sales tax on gasoline. (2000)

HEALTH CARE=

# Voted for having Illinois endorse embryonic stem cell research. (2004)
# Successfully sponsored the Health Care Justice Act, a study of ways to implement a universal health care system statewide. (2004)
# Voted against restrictions on public funding of abortion. (2000)
# Successfully co-sponsored a prescription drug discount buying club program for seniors and the disabled. (2003)

CRIME & GUN CONTROL

# Voted against letting people argue self-defense in court if charged with violating local weapons bans by using a gun in their home. (2004)
# Voted to let retired police and military police carry concealed weapons. (2004)
# Successfully sponsored requirement that law enforcement videotape interrogations of suspects in some serious crimes. (2003)
# Successfully sponsored law enforcement study of the race of people pulled over for traffic tickets. (2003)
# Helped pass an overhaul of the state’s troubled death penalty system. (2003)
# Unsuccessfully sponsored measure to expunge some criminal records and create an employment grant program for ex-criminals. (2002)
# Unsuccessfully sponsored limit of one handgun purchase per month. (2000)
# Voted against making gang members eligible for the death penalty if they kill someone to help their gang. (2001)

MISCELLANEOUS

# Unsuccessfully co-sponsored ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation. The measure became law after Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate. (2003)
# Successfully sponsored move to shield Illinois workers from federal rules that threatened overtime pay for some employees.
# Successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform called the Gift Ban Act. (1998)
# Voted against giving tax credits to parents who send their children to private school. (1999)

Sen. Clinton…held up the nomination of a FDA commissioner in order to force approval of Plan B and…spoke…during the Supreme Court nomination about the importance of protecting Roe vs. Wade

Think about those two actions for a moment.

1) Hillary held up the nomination of a FDA commissioner in order to force approval of Plan B.

2) Hillary promoted a Roe vs. Wade “litmus test” for a Supreme Court Justice.

If those actions are not just acceptable, but commendable in the eyes of liberals, then they have no grounds to complain if conservatives hold up nominations to get something they want and apply a Roe vs. Wade “litmus test” to a Supreme Court Justice nomination.

What is the next move in this pro-abortion cat fight?

Could we be so lucky as to have one of them claim to be responsible for more abortions in the black community than the other? They really are proud of what they do and I would not put it past them.
