It won’t do any good. At this point, who would believe them?
Look on the bright side: It only took six years to get from the Watergate wipeout to Reagan. What could go wrong?

Sounds pretty T.C. to me.
VolMagic on May 15, 2008 at 12:30 AM
I feel very strongly about defending the Republic, it is the focus of my life in-fact, after the defense of my family.
Squid Shark on May 15, 2008 at 12:30 AM
Squid Snark, I came up with a new cheer for you…
Obama sucks, he really really sucks!
Vote McCain because his name is not Hussein!
Yay!
I know, I know, you guys don’t like all that politics of personal destruction, but you have to admit, the rhyming of ‘McCain’ and ‘Hussein’ couldn’t be avoided forever. I mean, if I didn’t put it out there, somebody else would have. And you gotta face facts man. You’re lacking a bit in the creativity department. ‘Rush is stupid! Levin is stupid! Anyone who doesn’t vote for McCain is stupid!’ I mean, if you’re going to insult someone, at least of the common decency to do it with some panache. (that means, flamboyance) That’s why I do cheers for you guys…it amuses me, and it gives your substandard talking points a fresh coat of paint. No need to thank me. In the meantime, you could try coming up with better arguments in favor of your candidate…..then again, maybe not. All together now: Obama sucks…he’ll kill us all! Vote McCain or the Mullahs will take over the world!

Which is why you rabidly defend an open borders candidate. Yeah, ok. Right there with you pal. Barf.

You seem to disagree with their position, so you must have a definition of “true conservative” that you would gladly wear?
What is it?

The biggest con in the U.S. is that the illegals furnish cheap labor. Welfare, overflowing emergency rooms, high insurance rates, high school taxes {Bi-lingual teachers}, crowded schools, T.B. and other previously irradicated deseases, crime, traffic conjestion, identity theft, communcation problems, paying little or no taxes. And say it, both of my daughter in-laws are Mexicans here legally and they feel the same way that I feel about the problem only more so.
Johan Klaus on May 15, 2008 at 12:33 AM
Johan, it has penetrated your mind that I agree with you? Right?
thuja on May 15, 2008 at 12:34 AM
Mark Levin,
1) It’s idiotic to say McCain is Gerald Ford. McCain is much more conservative than Ford.
2) GOP candidates have been losing because the GOP-controlled Congress was too big-spending.
3) McCain is a crusader against big spending. Candidates should ride hide cost-cutting coattails to victory.
jgapinoy on May 15, 2008 at 12:35 AM
My brain is running at 1/2 capacity being that it is late. However I do not think that people who dont vote for McCain are stupid, any more than the folks who accuse me of being stupid for supporting him.
Squid Shark on May 15, 2008 at 12:35 AM
Being that I am a small government proponent, I dont see how I could vote for all those T.C.’s out there who you heard not a peep from as our budget got larger and larger.
Squid Shark on May 15, 2008 at 12:24 AM
NEWS flash there are not very many T>C as you call them in office and certainly none in the leadership positions. All that spending was done by moderates or those that left their ideals at the door because they thought they could buy our votes. no not many conservatives left in Washington. In fact I haven’t seen one in a long time possibly 20years. The people in office TALK a good game but they vote as moderates.
But the GWOT is my main issue given my occupation, so there in only one choice in November.
Yeah after 7 years the moderate/liberal Bush has not been able to pacify one little shithole country with the greatest army on earth because he is a moderate (don’t want to offend their culture or nothing you know, don’t want to make moral judgements you know, don’t want to place our beliefs in their government documents you know) Bush is the Rodeny King of warfare…can’t we all just get… along…
No I cant because it is just more hyperbole against those of us who dont fall into your little mold.
Point of order when trying to win people to your side insulting them is not a good debating tool. Soo..you want small government, less spending but your a moderate…how’s that working for you…9Trillion in debt from the moderates.
unseen on May 15, 2008 at 12:35 AM
I was not trying to insult anyone by calling them a moderate. A lot of people that I know are proud of being moderates.
However, whatever the label, I simply do not agree with many of the views of the people-who-are-not-as-conservative-as-I-am, and since they obviously control much of the Republican party (and have for years!) I have no reason to be a part of the party any more.
doubleplusundead,
If there are conservatives on the ticket that inspire me to vote, I will. If that happens, I just won’t vote for President.
Given my stance, if the candidates in my area took Levin’s advice, they would be much more likely to get my vote.
Jodella on May 15, 2008 at 12:36 AM
I do not defend an open borders position, and I do not think that McCain will be an open borders president…
My job is the defense of the Republic, so I will stick with my previous statement.
BTW, your stupid too (j/k) :)
Squid Shark on May 15, 2008 at 12:37 AM
Americans just need to figure out which candidate they would feel better about blaming for the next four years because neither has a snowballs chance in hell of any kind of national harmony.
Both has absolutely zero respect for international boundaries and opposite that alone is most of America.
Beyond that the massive imputes needed to create a successful new Conservative party is near nil and the RNC counts on our apathy to help slow down the liberal crocodile now taking them down one by one.
Expect the RNC to take the path of least resistance, like always.

Im not a moderate so……
Its not working out so good, since all the T.C.’s creamed their jeans over Bush in 2000, I assumed he was one back then when I sucked it up and voted for him.
The movement conservatives have had the luxury of armchair quaterbacking this whole time, so I aint buying your argument.
BTW, I have no intention of winning you over.

1. believe in states rights
2. Strict Constructionism
3. Responsible spending
4. Low taxes
5. Aggresive foreign policy
6. having the strongest military in the world
7. libertarian ideals about personal choices
Squid Shark on May 15, 2008 at 12:28 AM
So basically you think of TC as religious zealots? or racist xenophobes? Since most of what is above is the definition of conservative. and if you believe in strict constructism, states rights and aggresive forgien policy you have to by defintion believe in strong borders. The army was formed to protect the boarders without boarders there is no reason for an army.
unseen on May 15, 2008 at 12:42 AM
There ya go!
Squid Shark on May 15, 2008 at 12:42 AM
Depends on what you mean by “logical.”
It seems logical to me that massive defeat in 2008 will force the GOP to re-examine itself and see what went wrong. They will realize thier out of control spending, weak on soveriegnity, entitlement programing agenda will not allow them to continue in power. They will begin to field conservative candidates, and we will vote for them again in 2010 and 2012.
VolMagic on May 15, 2008 at 12:43 AM
I would think the Navy would be more concerned about boarders
But I do believe in strong borders, we didnt do it like we should after Reagans amnesty.
Squid Shark on May 15, 2008 at 12:44 AM
Yeah, except that the vaunted center doesn’t pay the bills and volunteer. McCain’s learning that the hard way.
Look at the difference, Obama has a large army of volunteers who would crawl over a mile of rusty nails and broken glass to sell their organs to harvesters if he needed the funds. McCain can’t get over 200 bloggers to join his friends list. Like it or not, organization and funding matter, and McCain is at a huge disadvantage because he’s pissed off all the people who would traditionallydo all that.
doubleplusundead on May 15, 2008 at 12:46 AM

This is idiotic. If Republicans want to start winning elections again then they need to do two things.
1 - Tell us what they intend to do to get back to their conservative roots
2 - Do it
Their current plan is
1 - Tell us anything they think will get them elected
2 - Become involved in a sex scandal

There are extenuating circumstances behind this phenomena. Its what we like to call “The great California Invasion”. Many western states, including mine, have been invaded by millions of Californians escaping the oppressive economy of the Peoples Democratic Republic of California. The funny yet tragic thing is; they move here and immediately begin turning the place into California lite. They vote in liberals and turn the whole community on its ear when they start insisting on socialist agendas. Best case in point. Rep. Salzaar. He was elected in historically a very conservative district. Why? The California invasion. Its for real and it sucks.

Not to mention set us back 20-25 years with liberal Judges(that would hurts us in who knows how many ways)
Higher taxes though the roof.. a demoralized and weaker military

So in the end, a few questions come up. I’m not talking about this election. This election has three choices, all equally bad. The only choice this election is which one you consider most survivable. I’m talking about next election, and those coming after.
The first has been asked. Has the party leadership (either one) changed to the point where their vision doesn’t fit with that of their constituents? I would say yes for both Rep & Dem.
The second is personal. Do you stick around and try to change from within, or do you attempt to find others of your vision and form a new party? I’m not talking about the Pauls or Perots of the world - basically shots in the dark. I mean something that actually resonates with the majority of Americans with common sense. Either path must be proceeded upon with the understanding that it may take years to form positive results. Additionally you must recognize when and if that path is not working and be prepared to try something else. Personally I feel that with few exceptions, changing the party from within has become a useless endeavour. Once again, everyone must decide that for themselves.
The last is simple and fits whichever way you answer the previous. Someone else said this much better than I could -
In the end, that will determine your success or failure.

6. having the strongest military in the world

Ban on same-sex marriage is unRepublican; leave it to states. (Nov 2006)
Voted NO on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. (Jun 2006)
Chakra Hammer on May 15, 2008 at 1:14 AM
So this is about same sex marriage? That’s what makes McCain have more “sense” than the “other” neoconservatives.
Anything else?
Saltysam on May 15, 2008 at 1:17 AM
It is simple; require the party to follow the constution. Ninty percent of what the government does is un-constitutional

“Ban on same-sex marriage is unRepublican; leave it to states.”

3. Responsible spending(If GWB IS a Neocon.. )
Chakra Hammer on May 15, 2008 at 1:29 AM
that is not needed at this time, also that is not the role of the govt. IMHO.
Chakra Hammer on May 15, 2008 at 1:33 AM
Chakra Hammer on May 15, 2008 at 1:29 AM
Congress is responsible for spending. But, no doubt, veto pen has a lot of dust on it.
I make no apologies for GWB, but it can be argued that Congress held the war hostage for pork barrel spending deals (but you won’t find me arguing it!:))
Anyway, philosophically, I don’t believe responsible spending is a distinction between “neoconservative” and “McCain’s better sense neoconservatism”.
Saltysam on May 15, 2008 at 1:36 AM
Chakra Hammer on May 15, 2008 at 1:33 AM
But it is not “un” Republican. And there are/were reasons to consider the ammendment process, considering the activism of the courts.

Chakra Hammer on May 15, 2008 at 3:11 AM
Sorry I’m late to this discussion…
But it doesn’t really matter, because it is the same old arguments from the same old people (plus a few names with which I am not familiar).
Nobody is going to change anyone’s mind about McCain; all the negative information about him has been presented, and ignored by his supporters…. Just like the negative stuff on Obama is ignored by his supporters.
Levin’s idea is nothing new either… we have been discussing much the same ideas here and at FR for a year or more…. ( and some of us since the ‘Dole-drums’ set in in 1996) ….
It just ‘ain’t a gonna happen’ because them thar Mediocrats™ are jest too skeered of Obamallary’ to think of the long term consequences of their choices.
They tell us that conservatism is dead, and that Mediocracy™ is the new Conservativism.
Well, they may be right; I doubt it, but I concede the possibility that America has finally been so dumbed-down that mediocracy is the best we can hope for forevermore.
But you know what? I wish there was a competent, viable political machine for us to go to; with leaders who can actually express conservative values, present them to the voters and GIVE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE A CHOICE. A choice that they no longer have with the leadership of the Republican party in general touting policies that the last half way decent Democrat President, JFK would have considered way too liberal for the survival of the country.
If indeed the electorate doesn’t want the things Conservatism brings, I could live with that decision….. But we will never know, because the ‘powers that be’ have decided that they will not support anything that reaches any higher than mediocrity.
Just a couple of days ago, I watched a movie : Harrison Bergeron. A Showtime movie adaptation of a Kurt Vonnegut short story. It was very thought provoking: Mediocrity was a legal requirement. Not as old as ‘Atlas Shrugged’; nonetheless, a very accurate dramatization of what is happening today. Very thought provoking, but so close to the truth that it was very depressing.
LegendHasIt on May 15, 2008 at 3:26 AM
Those of us who have been around for a while, those of us who have been paying attention for decades have tried that for 20-30 years.
And no doubt, fifty years ago the same advice was given to my elders who were disgruntled at the increasing drift of America into socialism and stupidity in general?
How many more
decadescenturies do you think it will take for the leftward drift (that has turned into a run) to slow down? Other than a couple of conservative ‘bumps in the road’ that managed to get elected DESPITE the efforts of the Mediocrat™ machine, the leftward drift has only gathered speed.Personally, I think that we are about 6 months away from the point of no return…. I can see the cliff up ahead, the brake lines have been cut, and the only hope is to throw a bootleggers turn and hope for the best.

we need another Reagan to step up. No he wasnt perfect but i dont believe he sacrificed core party principle to get elected or pandered to any one on the left or center in 1980. google his 1st inagural speech. how fitting it would be today to have someone stand up with the same charisma and conviction and tell the AMerican people the truth.

Saw Bob Barr on Glen Beck last night… I will be taking a long look at him this week. The libertarian party may be the most conservative now. Levin may be right. I don’t believe in supporting or giving money to people who don’t represent me or what’s best for this country. They are all corrupt. Basiclly McCains strategy is “B…B… B… but Obama’s much worse than me!” And you all have an orgasm and trip over yourselves to vote for him. Didn’t the Dems prove that you lose election by running against the other candidate rather than on what they, themselves stand for? So what does Mavrick stand for? (other than Mavrick?)
Exit question for the McCain Groupies? Any comment on why McCain got 1/3rd of the vote in WV (and he was the only one running!!!)? In fact Rudy finished .2 points outside the margin of error (29 pts to McCain’s 33). Voting’s a pain… there is a large number who are going out to the polls to register their “protest”. It will not be enough.
The RNC is NOT getting the message (or my money). Wine all you want about how I am “electing Obama”. I settled on voting for McCain after Fred/Rudy/Romney dropped out… BUT HE CONTINUED TO SPIT ON CONSERVATIVES! Global Warming, Polar Bears… LA RAZA! Sorry have to go clean up the blood that just shot out of my eyes.

You can ask the Naderites how they feel about their vote in 2000. During the last 20 years the presidency of Bush-Clinton-Bush has been center-right. A move left in the culture is outside the scope of the POTUS.
If you feel that the last 20 years the presidency has taken the country to the left, wait for the Obama team who really believe that their mission is to make the government work for you. Even Reagan couldn’t undo the government buildup by FDR and LBJ. There is no guarantee that a 2nd Reagan a decade or two hence could uproot the government expansion that Obama implements.

There are 300 million people in the country. 2 of them have a chance to be sworn in in Jan 09.
