Heart-ache: High-school student banned from prom for skimpy dress

The boss, being a good mom, is outrageously outraged by the choice of attire. Granted, it’s tacky, but certainly no more revealing than a bikini. Dare I say it, but if America’s daughters aren’t allowed to dress like prostitutes then the terrorists have already won. Exit question: What large percentage of the overwhelmingly male, anti-Islamist HA readership is with me?

Lawsuit and ACLU coming to defense in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1……..
Defector01 on May 13, 2008 at 5:26 PM
Umm…where’s the dress?
ronsfi on May 13, 2008 at 5:26 PM
thats a good color for window drapes….
SoCalInfidel on May 13, 2008 at 5:27 PM
Sorry Allah, not with you on this one. If it weren’t high school maybe I’d be with you but our teenagers are already out of control we don’t need to loosen up what little grasp on morality they already have.
b4itsover on May 13, 2008 at 5:27 PM
Schools can have dress codes. Beaches shouldn’t.
kirkill on May 13, 2008 at 5:27 PM
already went over this in the new Stuff Christians don’t like category …
corona on May 13, 2008 at 5:28 PM
Where in the hell is her parents.
KBird on May 13, 2008 at 5:28 PM
Did you catch that last part? Did I hear “because I didn’t have any underwear on”?
Vizzini on May 13, 2008 at 5:28 PM
It’s no more revealing than a bikini, and if the prom were held on the beach it might be considered appropriate. What is it with these girls and their unquenchable desire for attention? I shudder to think what her “mother” wears.
DrMagnolias on May 13, 2008 at 5:28 PM
Anything south of 85% and you’ve got problems, AP
Grantman on May 13, 2008 at 5:29 PM
I dont even think hookers on a street corner would like that dress…I say let her wear it, when everyone ignores her for how bad it looks she wont ever make that mistake again…
SoCalInfidel on May 13, 2008 at 5:29 PM
So where do you pin on the corsage?
Cicero43 on May 13, 2008 at 5:29 PM
Allah, I’m with you man.
Did she really say she couldn’t wrap the dress around because she didn’t have any underwear on? Or did I not hear that right?
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:29 PM
This is CNN.
Did she get her money back?
Valiant on May 13, 2008 at 5:30 PM
I wouldn’t let my daughter go to a prom where other girls are dressed like that. I’d go though. Looks to me like she needs a father.
JiangxiDad on May 13, 2008 at 5:30 PM
You can’t be serious? I’m afraid the last thing she will be is ignored. Perhaps other girls in the room will be ignored, but I sincerely doubt she will be.
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:31 PM
Sorry Allah, but as a parent of a high school senior and a 4th grader (both girls), that “dress” would never have seen the outside of my home, much less going into a public place. This has nothing to do with being PC, but just having Normal (by my standards) moors in society.
Lotsa skin on the beach - good
lotsa skin at a high school function = not so good.
Markvike on May 13, 2008 at 5:31 PM
I wouldn’t let my daughter dress like a slut on the beach, either. And that includes a bikini.
Blake on May 13, 2008 at 5:32 PM
Can someone please decipher/translate what that girl said. If the parents of that girl didn’t have the sense enough to not allow her to go to a school function in that, then at least the school employee had the sense to keep her from going into the function before she entered. Seems like a case of not following rules to me. I know here in our school system there are “dress codes” for the schools as well as the functions of the schools. If you don’t abide by them you don’t go. That simple. It’s called rules and instilling discipline. Do you folks not remember these things as part of raising children.
rayvet on May 13, 2008 at 5:33 PM
Thats what I thought I heard Vizzini. Had to listen to it a few times. Still finding it hard to believe my ears.
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:34 PM
she got the attention she so desperately desired. And that’s what matters, isn’t it?
lorien1973 on May 13, 2008 at 5:34 PM
Well, I guess it depends on taste…I personally think it makes her look horrible….then again im a 28 year old male and single with no kids so im kinda out of the loop. if she went to my high school prom wearing that she would totally be laughed at the whole time.
SoCalInfidel on May 13, 2008 at 5:34 PM
Did she graduate?
That may be the more serious error..
Chakra Hammer on May 13, 2008 at 5:34 PM
I think she said undergarments - meaning bra.
lorien1973 on May 13, 2008 at 5:34 PM
Indeed.
Cicero43 on May 13, 2008 at 5:35 PM
I think it’s sad that teenage girls feel the need to dress like hookers.
AZCoyote on May 13, 2008 at 5:35 PM
Wait some people think it’s ok she wore that bikini for a dress and with no panties? How did the sponsor know she wasn’t wearing undergarments anyway?
Schmidt on May 13, 2008 at 5:35 PM
Why even bother with a “dress” in this case? Why not just show up in pasties and a g-string? Would have been more appropriate.
rockmom on May 13, 2008 at 5:36 PM
fixed it for you
SoCalInfidel on May 13, 2008 at 5:36 PM
Our “progressive” society does what it WANTS to do, not what it OUGHT to do. And it’s all dismissed as “they’re going to do it anyway”, or “whatever”, or “why are you all Puritan?”
Prudence, it really shouldn’t be a bad word.
kirkill on May 13, 2008 at 5:36 PM
Winner of the thread.
freevillage on May 13, 2008 at 5:36 PM
Let’s face it: The end thing to do these days among celebrities is to flash your crotch. And the media is always there to snap a photo and publish it. Add to that the fiction that it is okay to have a kid out of wedlock and get a high paying job and apartment in NYC without breaking a sweat doesn’t help either.
Blake on May 13, 2008 at 5:36 PM
Haha. Yeah, I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that this crowd is slightly different from yours or my high school crowd.
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:37 PM
In her defense, she probably had to work late and went straight from the pole to the prom.
awake on May 13, 2008 at 5:38 PM
Just give it a few years. It will happen.
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:38 PM
I’ll bet some drag queens would kill for that dress.
Cicero43 on May 13, 2008 at 5:38 PM

but it would make for really good gossip for about 3 months
SoCalInfidel on May 13, 2008 at 5:39 PM
Looks like she’s been reading the book by famous SNL author Velvet Jones.
GoodBoy on May 13, 2008 at 5:39 PM
Just don’t be surprised if your date treats you as nothing more than a piece of ass.
CurtZHP on May 13, 2008 at 5:40 PM
Meh- a little over the top (or more accurately- not enough top) for a high-school function. Neither her wearing it or the school banning her even registers on my outrage-o-meter though.
Hollowpoint on May 13, 2008 at 5:41 PM
That’s the perfect dress for the very popular Rape Dat Ho dance all the kids are crazy about.
Stay classy Memphis.
Vote Sauron 08 on May 13, 2008 at 5:41 PM
I didnt even think of that…imagine if you were her date and you went to pick her up, she opened the door and you saw that…i gaurantee you would be thinking…cha cha ching….gettin laid for sure tonight :)
SoCalInfidel on May 13, 2008 at 5:41 PM
Could be but why would that make it difficult for her to wrap her dress around her bare tummy?
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:42 PM
ok, here’s the deal. Im actually a photographer and I do a LOT of proms as part of my work. I’ve already been to three this year and I have two next weekend. This looks to be a lot more revealing than any dress ive seen so far.. but its not like I haven’t seen stuff that doesn’t show off everything anyways. Why the hell would you ban her?
triple on May 13, 2008 at 5:42 PM
Sorry. I’m no prude, but NO WAY my daughter is going to prom in that! She really does look like a streetwalker. Whatever happened to wanting to look sophisticated and glamourous? Now it’s all about how much T&A you can show and our young people don’t know any different. Sad really.
kcd on May 13, 2008 at 5:42 PM
She’s burning hot and it’s great that she wants to display that. I’m real tired of prudes who think it’s still the 19th century and it’s somehow condemnable that someone would show their body in an adult setting.
Baphomet on May 13, 2008 at 5:42 PM
That it would SoCalInfidel. That it would.
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:43 PM
I think she was saying that her friends tried to wrap it around her, but the official said that wasn’t good enough because she didn’t have any undergarments on (bra I presume).
She’ll be going far in life, either way. I bet she already has one kid.
lorien1973 on May 13, 2008 at 5:46 PM
This is a HIGH SCHOOL prom, not a strip club. They are HARDLY adults.
kcd on May 13, 2008 at 5:46 PM
That is such an ugly dress that she should have been banned for that reason alone.
Esthier on May 13, 2008 at 5:46 PM
Schools have dress codes for a reason. I don’t give a crap about her dress. I condemn her defiance of legitimate authority.
RushBaby on May 13, 2008 at 5:47 PM
Send out your daughters!
JiangxiDad on May 13, 2008 at 5:47 PM
So I’m hearing that your teenage daughter goes on dates looking like that??
Cicero43 on May 13, 2008 at 5:48 PM
I wouldn’t trade my wife for six of em’.

I think the link may be bad.
I saw the bit with the hooker. Where was the highschooler?
29Victor on May 13, 2008 at 5:49 PM
Ahh gotcha. You’re probably right but I think I’m just going to pretend she said what I thought she said because its just so much more funny that way.
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:49 PM
The video doesn’t work, but based on MM’s photos…I don’t think it crossed the line. Don’t get me wrong, it straddled it, but I think being banned is going too far. I do understand asking her to cover up a bit, though.
malan89 on May 13, 2008 at 5:49 PM
Video worked before but has been taken down now.. or so it says
GoodBoy on May 13, 2008 at 5:51 PM
Baphomet on May 13, 2008 at 5:42 PM
Yeah Baphmet! Why draw the line there? Why cant they wear see through blouses, with no bras? Would that be ok too? How about guys wearing no pants, just a pair of chaps? Would that be cool?
Get real, they have to draw the line somewhere!
kcd on May 13, 2008 at 5:51 PM
I think it may be time for a “Free March Taylor” t-shirt.
Zetterson on May 13, 2008 at 5:53 PM
I am waiting until she turns 18 for the nudes.
Rode Werk on May 13, 2008 at 5:55 PM

Me, I like toothpicks.
Especially the minty ones.
profitsbeard on May 13, 2008 at 6:01 PM
Shut up. Now.
On an unrelated note, I think it’s time for a humpbot post….
malan89 on May 13, 2008 at 6:01 PM
I can’t understand why anyone would be outraged by someone else’s teenage daughter wearing revealing clothing. If you are, you really need an XBox or something.
Really, this is only an outrage to parents because it forces you to confront the fact that your precious little daughter will have really dirty hot sex some day. You can’t let them grow up can you? You want to imagine them frozen in time as toddlers, forever innocent, who would never want to do participate in anything so naughty and immoral as sexual intercourse.
This girl’s skimpy outfit serves as a horrible reminder that some day YOUR DAUGHTER is going to want to f*ck, and she’s going to be hurt by some guy who isn’t going to treat her right, and there’s NOTHING you can do about it. In fact, maybe your daughter will become friends with a girl who wears skimpy outfits, and that trampy girl is going to convince your daughter that sex is fun. And then your daughter’s innocence is FOREVER SHATTERED and if only you had been a better parent, your daughter wouldn’t have been interested in anything as tawdry as sex.
Am I close?
Enrique on May 13, 2008 at 6:02 PM
Maybe it had something to do with his support of lower taxes? His opposing nanny statism? His opposition to amnesty? His wanting to keep government small? His support for the war on terror?
No, man. He. Doesn’t. Think. The. Dress. Is. That. Bad. OMFG!!! Allah’s a CINO!
amerpundit on May 13, 2008 at 6:03 PM
C’mon, sex is almost always funny. :)
Enrique on May 13, 2008 at 6:03 PM
Who can know what to think before Fox’s sexpert chimes in on the issue?
Spirit of 1776 on May 13, 2008 at 6:04 PM
I really just think it’s that AP knows it’s as close to a girl that he’ll get today. :P
lorien1973 on May 13, 2008 at 6:04 PM
Totally. Humpbot has gone missing for far too long :(
lorien1973 on May 13, 2008 at 6:05 PM
Nope. In fact, conservative Christian women enjoy sex more than our trampy secular sisters do. We want our daughters to enjoy it as much as we do, which means reserving it for marriage. Don’t take my word for it, take the University of Chicago’s.
Laura on May 13, 2008 at 6:07 PM
What Enrique said. And don’t mess with Allah, he’s THE man.
A prom is by definition an adult setting. It’s the whole point of having a prom: high school is OVER. Besides, the girl is in control of herself. Let her be and mind your own business. That’s the part of conservatism that conservatives most often violate, these faux “moral” issues (they actually are not about morality).
Baphomet on May 13, 2008 at 6:07 PM
So, I am sitting at a parent conference with about 20 other parents (high school).
Some one brings up that they thought the “dance girls” were dressed to risque. One of the dance girl moms took offense and attacked that mom.
Me being one of the only men, happened to be sitting right behind this girls boyfriend’s (yes plural) during the dance. So I, in very exact and explicit language told that mom exactly what her boyfriends were going to do to her that night. And every time she bent over what they wanted to do to her, and what she was going to do to them (yes plural). Needless to say, it was very x-rated, and I would never say that in public, except the mom needed a dose of reality.
The mom left in tears, and the dad called me at home (we knew each other from other activities), and thanked me. It was embarrassing, but they got the point.
The uniforms and dance routine were changed. They are just kids, they have plenty of time to exercise their sexual fantasies after they have grown up.
right2bright on May 13, 2008 at 6:09 PM
Reserving it for marriage? Did you miss the 20th century? The idea that sex before marriage equals promiscuity is a paleoconservative, arcane belief.
Baphomet on May 13, 2008 at 6:09 PM
To think that we would have been expelled from school for waring nylons.
p.s. whoever referred to (dress) color - for a dark, or sunburned body, that color is perfect for a bikini.
Entelechy on May 13, 2008 at 6:09 PM
Geez Enrique…we all aren’t preoccupied with ‘gettin sum’ or worried about our daughters either. You’re way too hung up on conservative’s sexual habits.
Limerick on May 13, 2008 at 6:09 PM
Read the article, Baphomet.
Laura on May 13, 2008 at 6:11 PM
I have to go with the boss on this one. High school is juuuuuust a bit too young for that.
steveegg on May 13, 2008 at 6:12 PM
You obviously do not have a 17 year old daughter. They are not “in control” or adults, they are kids, still in school.
And, how about you paying for her sexual activities that she will be engaged in. How about you paying for kids out of wedlock, and the mom’s do not have an education to support. You think conservatives are only driven by moral values, how about practical values. Before becoming a sex object, how about becoming educated, mature, responsible. You are the one that is talking like a liberal, do your own thing, if it feels good do it, that is the mindset that creates anarchy.
right2bright on May 13, 2008 at 6:13 PM
It that what is meant by Hot Ghetto Mess?

You first.

The video is no longer available.
In the stillshot, though….um, don’t girls usually do their hair for the prom?
Hers looks like she combed it with an eggbeater.
Janna on May 13, 2008 at 6:17 PM
I’m talking like a Liberal as in classic liberal, before the term got corrupted and meant leftist.
Yeah, if it feels good do do it. Unless it harms another citizen’s rights, it’s the whole point behind the founding of the USA, man: liberty. Period. No conditions, no buts. It’s hard to understand for many people.
I agree with you, by the way, on the needs to do good parenting. But her skimpy dress does not in any way equal unprotected sex or even promiscuity. It’s just a dress.
What really bothers some people, and is behind this problem, is that their prude genes go haywire when they see in public something they personally dislike or feel intimidated about.
Baphomet on May 13, 2008 at 6:18 PM
Wow. It took some Malkins to wear that dress.
Rustyw on May 13, 2008 at 6:18 PM
AP, once you have a daughter your opinion will change instantly.
TexasDan on May 13, 2008 at 6:19 PM
Careful… You wouldn’t want to get the Imus treatment.
2Brave2Bscared on May 13, 2008 at 6:20 PM
It’s a tough call. I’ll put it in these terms:
As long as we have soldiers willing to fight and die for the right of our women to look pretty damn good back home, in the face of the Islamic Fascists threatening to take over the world, I have to agree with Allah. I know people here would be upset about their daughter dressing this way, but let’s face it, everyone has to be a little hypocritical in parenting. When the kids call us on it, we tell them because I said so, and life goes on. Your house, your rules. In the meantime, we need the United States to continue to stand for freedom.
MadisonConservative on May 13, 2008 at 6:23 PM
No, you’d be able to see’em.
TheSitRep on May 13, 2008 at 6:24 PM
Probably hard to understand because it’s not quite true. America was founded by groups of people who sought liberty from England, not from restraint altogether. Liberty, not anarchy. Manifested in every colonial charter, and even in things voluntarily entered in like the Mayflower Compact.
Communities of people have always established what they conceive are appropriate restrictions on behavior. Our experiment is to take the establishment of those voluntary restraints out of the hands of the central gov, not abolish them.
Spirit of 1776 on May 13, 2008 at 6:26 PM
Make that ordered freedom, MadCon.
RushBaby on May 13, 2008 at 6:27 PM
Yes, but those restrictions have changed over time based on circumstance. At one time, drugs were legal. Now they are not. Sometimes they become more restrictive. Now, women are being killed for not wearing cloth from head to toe in more and more countries. This is a case where our reaction should be defiant; hence, less restrictive.
MadisonConservative on May 13, 2008 at 6:28 PM
I predict a rash of skimpy dressed gutter mouthed prom girls now, looking for their 15 minutes, much like the rash of skimpy dressed gutter mouthed airline passengers a few months ago.
ctmom on May 13, 2008 at 6:28 PM
Video no longer available.
YouTube is the worse.
Texyank on May 13, 2008 at 6:30 PM
Spirit, we’re on the same line. Please note I said “unless it harms another citizen’s rights”. That’s the definition of anti-anarchy, because it sets boundaries on behavior to protect individual rights, both from others and from the government.
Dress codes hardly fall in that category, and even then it wouldn’t matter because this isn’t really about the government, even in a public school. My criticism was of people who otherwise defend freedom but raise a scandal when someone exercises their liberty in a way they don’t like in particular, even when it does no harm to others.
I guess that’s why they’re called conservatives after all, and it’s OK. It just strikes me as somewhat extreme at times, questioning someone’s garments on national television. You want the good stuff? Check out Argentinian television. The best in the whole world, along with the US.
Baphomet on May 13, 2008 at 6:33 PM
