Dodd: America can’t afford six more years of George Bush

Via the New Editor, let’s compromise: How about four more years, Chris? Or were you thinking we were going to try to elect him senator?

I’m willing to give the Lamb a pass on his 57-state nuance on account of exhaustion, but good lord. Let’s tighten it up with the numbers, boys.

Nuance.

Brain dead.

Maxx on May 13, 2008 at 4:37 PM

This obviously raises questions about Dodd’s advanced age and his ability to execute the duties of his office. I think Dodd should immediately resign from the Senate for the good of Delaware, or Rhode Island, or whatever the hell state he represents.

Enrique on May 13, 2008 at 4:38 PM

but good lord. Let’s tighten it up with the numbers, boys.

I needed a good belly laugh. Thanks AP.

Maybe McCain should get him to apologize.

Let’s forget about six versus four or eight, when will these guys get the message that GW Bush isn’t running!!!!! However, after what I’ve heard from McCain the past few days, I wish he were running!

Someone talk me out of Ron Paul, quick!!!!

Oink on May 13, 2008 at 4:39 PM

Let’s face it, Libs aren’t good with numbers…unless they are hand rolled. Heh.

brtex on May 13, 2008 at 4:39 PM

I don’t care what 230 economists say, I don’t want another six years of George Bush!

Seixon on May 13, 2008 at 4:42 PM

Hey, Dodd and his buddy, Captain Oldsmobile, use the same math when they’re hitting on waitresses at the La Brasserie.

Hey, Honey, guess what I have for you.

there it is on May 13, 2008 at 4:42 PM

Dodd is just a stupid, stupid little man.

Warner Todd Huston on May 13, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Nah, its because if Barraka is elected, he will stop the sun in the Heavens, and serve for SIX years in his term…

Romeo13 on May 13, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Hey! This is ageism. He thinks McCain will be re-elected in 2012 and die in office.

Buford Gooch on May 13, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Maybe McCain should get him to apologize.

Angry Dumbo on May 13, 2008 at 4:38 PM

More likely McCain will try to get a Republican to apologize.

Chuck Schick on May 13, 2008 at 4:45 PM

I’d like to ask Chris…”when you and Kennedy were making a sandwich of that waitress, did your d–ks ever rub together?”

Can you imagine what that must have looked like?

3 polar bears rollin’ around ’cause I’ll betcha she was pretty hot(sarcasm).

LtE126 on May 13, 2008 at 4:45 PM

Dodd was probably thinking of himself.
This country can’t take six more years of tools like him.

Maybe after 2 years of Communist rule, the “people” will be begging for real conservative republicans.

I fear there is no country left. We’re going to have to “leave the union”… somehow.

Dem Cenators aint two brite.

EJDolbow on May 13, 2008 at 4:52 PM

You don’t get it. Mr. Dodd thinks that since Nov. 2006 Mr. Bush is no longer in charge. Doddless!

I don’t give the Messiah a brake on the 57 states. Unpardonable for a common citizen, not to speak for someone who runs for president, no matter how tired. There are 100 senators for a reason.

Entelechy on May 13, 2008 at 4:52 PM

In the 53rd state, West Connecticut–the “Living Constitution State”–they recognize one year per 8 months (and British Greenwich Mean Time on Fridays,) so Sen. Dodd would be technically correct if speaking from the State of West Connecticut. A Presidential term amounts to six West Connecticut years, or 48 months. The 8 month year was the idea of West Connecticut’s first Governor, Tony Danza, because he likes the idea of looking younger than his age in years.

Frankly, I could do without six more years of Chris Dodd.

CP on May 13, 2008 at 4:57 PM

I’d rather have a third Dubya term than a second Carter term.

O-Dub on May 13, 2008 at 4:58 PM

Chris Dodd can rest easy as George W. Bush isn’t eligible for another 1 year…much less 6 more years.

Perhaps he’s worried about George Bush the elder though….if he were to be McCain’s VP and McCain died in office, leaving him in charge and he were to run for reelection, he might be able to pull off another (roughly) six years.

As for Obama and 57 states, I can forgive the slip of the tongue from being tired…however, when normal people have a slip of the tongue, they catch and correct themselves almost immediately. The fact that he didn’t makes it highly suspect.

JadeNYU on May 13, 2008 at 4:58 PM

Wouldn’t it be great if we could hold an election and vote these morons out of office? That would rule! Those were the good old days.

ronsfi on May 13, 2008 at 5:03 PM

OMFG, he misrepresented McCain’s last name. He isn’t Bush.

The “typical” mistake is saying “52″ (Alaska and Hawaii). Never heard anyone say “57″, except maybe the haughty Mr. John Theresa Heinz Kerry.
So what was Barry thinking of?

JiangxiDad on May 13, 2008 at 5:22 PM

It’s just Senatorial rhetoric. He’s used to griping about his opponents in six year increments instead of two or four years.

Note to Dodd: BUSH ISN’T ON THE BALLOT!

cannonball on May 13, 2008 at 5:30 PM

Well, the president of the Mexicans does serve a 6 year term.

Mark1971 on May 13, 2008 at 5:33 PM

I know this is an attempt to tie McCain to Bush, but I wonder if all this Bush bashing will backfire since the electorate knows Bush isn’t running.

There are three kinds of people – those who can count, and those who can’t. Now we know which both Obama and Dodd are.

Chris Dodd hit the microphone right after happy hour at Ted Kennedy’s office.

Doesn’t it make you wonder how McCain feels about those Dems in the Senate, his best buddies, are trashing him? I guess that all of that bipartisan kumbayah only takes a politician so far.

Dodd: America can’t afford six more years of George Bush

Dodd must not have received the memo that says when you want to make the other guy the story it is usually not a good idea to make yourself the story.

Dodd the dud.

In all fairness nobody expects McCain to live for more than 6 years.

Nonfactor on May 13, 2008 at 7:15 PM

Go easy on Mr. Dodd. He’s from Connecticut, one of the original 21 colonies…

Do you think the ketchup lobby had anything to do with Obama’s “57″ boo-boo, or has Michelle Obama just been spending too much time around her new best pal, the thwarted first lady of 2004?

Captain Scarlet on May 13, 2008 at 8:48 PM

In all fairness nobody expects McCain to live for more than 6 years.

Nonfactor on May 13, 2008 at 7:15 PM

Read this, Nonfactor.

“I just got my passport renewed, and it’s good for 10 years,” said Mrs. McCain, who will turn 96 in February. “That’s what I call optimism.”

Entelechy on May 13, 2008 at 8:56 PM

One more thing, Nonfactor. Liberals respect the elderly. Just remember that president Bill Clinton removed the “must retire at 65″ limitations, and made the law “work until death”, yes, really. Google it.

Entelechy on May 13, 2008 at 8:58 PM

My God we have fools like this running our congress and senate. Thank God for the past 8 years of George Bush the only thing that has spared this once great country from the Islamic terrorists and another great depression.

I am depressed about our and my kids future with idiots like this in charge.

Term limits for Gods sake! It may be time for the citizenry to exercise their second amendment rights and take their country back.

Steve Z on May 14, 2008 at 9:45 AM

You all did not know that the Constitution is being amended. The Senate and House are going to increase the term of the President from 4 to 6 years. It improves the timing to be more favorable for them to have a logical progression plan to allow them to climb the political career ladder without interfereing with their important work.

Want to buy a bridge to the White House?

MSGTAS on May 14, 2008 at 9:57 AM

The “typical” mistake is saying “52″ (Alaska and Hawaii). Never heard anyone say “57″, except maybe the haughty Mr. John Theresa Heinz Kerry.
So what was Barry thinking of?

JiangxiDad on May 13, 2008 at 5:22 PM

Probably something along the lines of thinking “fifty”, and then realizing he had a few that hadn’t been visited… there was a big pause between the “fifty” and the “seven”, as if he were trying to correct fifty to forty seven, plus one to go and he wanted to go to Alaska and Hawaii, but was shot down.

Something along the lines of: (unspoken thoughts in parentheses) “We’ve visited fifty… (no, wait, I have to subtract the few didn’t get to, so that’s forty plus…) seven, one to go, and we wanted to go to Alaska and Hawaii”, etc.

Should have been forty seven plus one plus two (which equals fifty), but instead of first saying forty his mouth got ahead of his mental math and he said fifty, and didn’t correct the first part of the sentence while doing the mental subtraction.

So if you’re going to “hold him to account” for getting the number wrong, you should be saying that he thought there were sixty states: fifty seven visited so far, one to go, and couldn’t get to Alaska and Hawaii. Sixty total.

Blah. There are a billion better reasons to ding the guy than not catching and instantly correcting something like this. It’s a petty bit of harping that would actually qualify for his overused “this is simply a distraction” excuse.

He’d be a nightmare if elected, but not because he might make trivial misstatements like this.
