Chris Matthews: Hillary’s sort of the “Al Sharpton of white people,” isn’t she?

posted at 9:23 pm on May 13, 2008 by Allahpundit

Good thing Fox fired that staffer who told McCain she was voting for him, huh? Finally, cable news is back to being bias-free. Exit question: Is a guy who once encouraged black candidates to run “unthreatening,” “child-like” ads so that they don’t scare white people really in a position to throw stones about racial demagoguery?

Blowback

How does that man still have a job?

Weight of Glory on May 13, 2008 at 9:26 PM

How does that man still have a job?

Because when a liberal says something its free speech, when a conservative says something its hate speech.

Simple really, when you know the proper protocol.

Bishop on May 13, 2008 at 9:30 PM

Chris Matthews is such an idiot. Someone off camera should spray him with a fire extinguisher the next time he pops off. Then his show would be more true to form, a comedy.

Zorro on May 13, 2008 at 9:30 PM

If I was CM, I wouldn’t be visiting any DC parks at night.

Hummer53 on May 13, 2008 at 9:32 PM

Or maybe she is like the Harold Stassen of women, just in a compressed time frame. For now.

Hillary’s sort of the “Al Sharpton of white people,” isn’t she?

Hilarious!

Didn’t he call Lieberman a “schmaltzy ethnic guy?”

fossten on May 13, 2008 at 9:37 PM

That is future Senator Matthews, PA. Have some respect dag-burnit!

Limerick on May 13, 2008 at 9:39 PM

Everytime he`s on, the graphic should read: Chris Matthews (D-MSNBC)

ThePrez on May 13, 2008 at 9:41 PM

Chris Matthews is in love with Obama, but he has a great political sense about him. He know exactly why he hated her speech. This woman is not going away, not until every single delegate has looked her in the eye, and voted for Obama anyway, not pledged, but actually voted at the convention. There they are not behind curtains.

Entelechy on May 13, 2008 at 9:42 PM

In fact, whenever Ed or Allah or anyone mentions him, use Chris Matthews (D-MSNBC). For the sake of accuracy.

ThePrez on May 13, 2008 at 9:43 PM

Vintage CM v. Zell: Do you know what a metaphor is?

That said, it’s obvious that NBC is in the tank for Dems no matter the cost, that’s the only logical explanation for them keeping CM on, given his money losing ratings.

ShoreMark on May 13, 2008 at 9:47 PM

As nearly as I can tell, the only thing Hillary Clinton and Al Sharpton have in common is wearing ugly pantsuits.

radjah shelduck on May 13, 2008 at 9:51 PM

Why is Chris Matthews allowed to say the “W” word?!

Bicyea on May 13, 2008 at 10:00 PM

Very interesting, when you have a political party that
claims their fighting for every cause A-Z,and every
ethnic group,it seems in their mindset its okay to
use white/black voters,men/women!

Maybe its only me,but this sounds awfuly racist
when every time a Liberal describes a voter and
is labelled, especially when they have to keep
bringing up the colour of said voter!

AZCON on May 13, 2008 at 10:05 PM

Did he just piss off the Al Sharpton AND the Clinton blocks of the Democrat party?

EJDolbow on May 13, 2008 at 10:19 PM

Didn’t he call Lieberman a “schmaltzy ethnic guy?”

fossten on May 13, 2008 at 9:37 PM

Did he? And if so, did he mean “greasy”?

Tzetzes on May 13, 2008 at 10:19 PM

Oh my. And to think there was a time when I actually sort of, well, maybe not ‘liked’ but at least ‘respected’ Chris Matthews.

Is this what we are in for until November? Am I just a worthless, racist, redneck cracker because I have serious reservations about who B. H. Obama really is, what he may or may not believe, and where he may or may not want to take this nation? None of which has anything to do with the shade of skin, BTW, and we really don’t honestly know the answers to EITHER of those questions.

Or, as is usually the case, will cooler heads prevail? If they do, and Barry and his merry band of Kossaks keep yelling ‘racist’ and ‘distraction’ at any mention of real substance, then things will look much much better for Senator McCain come November.

God help us!

The real scary part is 50 years from now someone’s going to make another insipid faux black andd white movie about how this guy elevated the political discourse in America

EricPWJohnson on May 13, 2008 at 10:23 PM

drjohn on May 13, 2008 at 11:13 PM

I have got to say, I was stunned when I heard this clip.
It is not often I get up out of my chair to find my wife and rant about an injustice (after all, they are so increasingly common). And I must also say that I do, and have for many years (that is to say, according the appropriate social constructs and with the necessary mitigating caveats) HATE Hillary Clinton. I have no problem accusing her of lying, graft, abuse of power and even murder!
Yet to condemn Hillary Clinton’s words, no matter how premeditated or nuanced, to extraordinary racism, when the phraseology she is using is exactly what DC pundits have been saying all year, and to equate her words to the rhetoric of a white Al Sharpton, who would actually be David Duke, is egregious.
I never thought I would ever defend a Clinton, but the abasing of US political discourse has brought me to it.

This person has to be the dumbest person on television. (Maybe its a tie between that fat black lady on The View) How the hell does he still have a job?

I think if BHO made a quick turn, he would break Chrissy’s nose.

Claypigeon on May 13, 2008 at 11:27 PM

Gee, I thought it was a pretty good analogy. Mocking African-American bigot who panders the race card while describing Hillary as the same – Female-Caucasian bigot who panders the race card.

So nice to have it spelled out for us by the democrats. They have the liberty to do that you know…….Republicans don’t.

Starlink on May 13, 2008 at 10:47 PM

I agree it’s actually a pretty funny line, though that’s mainly due to the irony of Bill and Hillary being branded as white race-baiters after years of using the support of the African-American community whenever either one of them got into political trouble.

Matthews lays out the second part, but my guess is he doesn’t see his or the rest of the big media’s culpability in letting them get away with playing the race card against Republicans on and off for 15 years, before going nuts for the past four months when the Clintons tried to turn the card over and play it on the other side.

Chris Matthews is sort of the “Chris Matthews of talking heads,” isn’t he?

how dare he belittle sharpton like that.

i have half a mind to go picket something.

if i ever get a whole mind, i’ll do just that.

TheCulturalist on May 14, 2008 at 1:13 AM

How do we get away from that, Chris? I get away from it by never watching you or your pathetic mini-network. Works for me.

Captain Scarlet on May 14, 2008 at 4:00 AM

I can’t figure something out. Whenever I see his ratings they are in the tank. I mean really bad. Don’t you media types think it’s about time to flush him.

tazmebro on May 14, 2008 at 4:29 AM

Chrissy is getting more unhinged every week. Is he in competition with Olbermann for something?

petefrt on May 14, 2008 at 5:57 AM

This been nowhere, done nothing little jerk makes me want to puke. He is the worst kind of political parasite with nothing to offer except a big mouth.

Wow, listen to Chris spin it! I really wonder how the Clintons must feel to have that media bias turned firmly against them?!

Crissy is a such a tool. Blithering Idiot comes to mind every time I see him, whether or not he’s got a ‘feeling’ crawling up his leg.

Gee, I dunno, Chris. Has she ever ginned up a rape story out of whole cloth?

mojo on May 14, 2008 at 10:59 AM

Matthews himself seems more similar to Sharpton.

Kralizec on May 14, 2008 at 11:40 AM

Chris Matthews = Typical liberal loudmouthed hypocrite.

Matthews was all over supporting Hillary early on in this selection process, but now that she is losing he is throwing her under the bus.

Does Matthews understand what an idiot he makes of himself?

Lawrence on May 14, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Suffice it to say, Sharpton and Clinton are both offended.

moxie_neanderthal on May 14, 2008 at 11:48 AM

Gee, I dunno, Chris. Has she ever ginned up a rape story out of whole cloth?

Not exactly, but she did gin up a record of accomplishments and experience out of whole cloth (as well as sniper fire).

Maybe those two should be talking….
