Chosen, I should add, by a celebrity panel including Eddie Vedder, Oliver Stone, and, um … Markos Moulitsas. Here’s the winning spot; brimming with Absolute Moral Authority and devoid of any coherent reason for voting for Obama aside from the bare assertion that he’ll represent the left and right — a fact completely belied by his voting record — it is, I hope you’ll agree, the perfect pick. Coming soon to a battleground state near you.
Be sure to follow the link to the finalists’ page and watch “They Said He Was Unprepared…”, too. The higher the expectations get, the harder the letdown’s going to be.

What’s with the weird electronic snare drum?
marykatharine on May 12, 2008 at 4:58 PM
Don’t you actually have to be a celebrity to be part of a celebrity panel? Ben Affleck and Oliver Stone might make it to Surreal Life or Celebrity Fit Club but the rest of them aren’t even B listers!

Almost everyone who says they are a lifelong republican, you can bet votes democrat, that horse has been trotted around the course too often.
I will bet that he also walked with MLK, has a black friend, thinks the Joooos are great people,

Took you advice, followed the link, watched all of them. Puked. Thanks a lot…
Longhorn Six on May 12, 2008 at 5:00 PM
They’re all just gag-inducing.
“cartoon obama will take the pen and draw a ramp…vote for cartoon obama.”
jdpaz on May 12, 2008 at 5:00 PM
OH NO! Not another, “I’m a lifelong Republican….but now I’m voting for a Democrat who’s further left than most…” ..and gee not one issue mentioned. Eh, who cares about the issues, anyway.
jjjen on May 12, 2008 at 5:01 PM
I would have thought a cartoon character would be the best bet for Obama but they got close enough.
Even worse it has the same empty nonsence that the entire Obama campaign is based on.
William Amos on May 12, 2008 at 5:02 PM
I heard another “lifelong Republican” who called into C-SPAN the other day. When asked who he voted for in 2004 and 2000, he said Kerry and Gore. Yeah.
I would say, “I’m a life long Democrat, and I’m voting for John McCain,” but that is just not as outlandish as a true life long Republican voting for Obama.
VolMagic on May 12, 2008 at 5:04 PM
What they all are is exactly what their maker’s see in Obama.
Some of them kind of even touching in their naive little hope-filled way. But of course none of them, like the messiah himself, ever say one single damned thing about how the Wizard of Obs is going to do all the wonderful things he’s going to do.
Lincoln my ass.
Typhoon on May 12, 2008 at 5:04 PM
Shocking - comments are disabled.
The ‘ad’ was much like Obama - devoid of any content.
alilianstrom on May 12, 2008 at 5:04 PM
I’m retired Navy. 24 years.
It always boggled my mind how anyone in uniform could consider voting for a leftie.
So I’m wondering about this guy; and particularly question his cognitive skills.
Corky on May 12, 2008 at 5:05 PM
You got to be $hitting me. Boy are there a lot of really stupid Americans. This guy couldn’t pour pi$$ out of a boot with instructions on the heel.
What a rediculous mess we find ourselves in.
Capt’n Amnesty vs Malcomb X. What a country.
saiga on May 12, 2008 at 5:06 PM
Surprising to see this coming from THE MOST PARTISAN, DIVISIVE group in the nation. I doubt many people will be fooled, outside of the really moronic…who are already voting for Obama anyways.
malan89 on May 12, 2008 at 5:07 PM
A life-long Republican veteran is making an ad for a group that calls our generals traitor? Lovely.
Yeah, I’ve heard that storyline, too. Notice our Mr. Weiler doesn’t mention who he voted for, only who he served under. Lieberman was a Democrat until late, but how many libs considered him one? Lincoln Chaffee was a Republican, too.
amerpundit on May 12, 2008 at 5:08 PM
I’m stealin’ that.
Typhoon on May 12, 2008 at 5:08 PM
Evidently I didn’t receive the DNC email…every commentary in the local paper starts out: “I am a life long republican but will be voting for a democrat in this election”. Good god how could anyone believe such a statement. Why not “I used to be for liberty and freedom but now I want total government control and regulation”.

rico101 on May 12, 2008 at 5:09 PM
OK, SSG. Weiler, you still utterly failed to answer “why” you’re voting for the Messiah. How will he unite left-right? What qualities does he have that would allow him to take over as Leader of the Free World?
I proclaim, this ad is shite.
Badger in KC on May 12, 2008 at 5:09 PM
lifelong Republican = lifelong in the closet leftist
Richard Romano on May 12, 2008 at 5:10 PM
They tried Messiah, it fell apart. They tried JFK, it didn’t stick. Now a Lincoln comparison? heh heh, it’s just getting funny now.
Try crotch shots for the win, MoveOn.

Behold life-long Republican Lincoln Chafee: Anti-war, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, anti-ANWR, anti-death penalty, pro-tax raising, pro-embryonic stem cell research, anti-Bolton.
amerpundit on May 12, 2008 at 5:12 PM
I’m a life long democrat and I’m voting for John McCain.
See how east that was? Anyone can say anything.

Oops … should be “easy”.
Maybe it wasn’t so easy afterall.

I wonder who he voted for in the last two elections.

Love the one, “A man from Illinois was running for president, his opponents ridiculed him as inexperienced and woefully unprepared… ”
Ring ring! Hello Dhimms, it’s the clue phone ringing and it’s for you! His opponents are not ridiculing him, they’re pointing out an obvious fact…! LOL!!

Assuming he really is what he claims to be; what the hell do I care who this ass is voting for. Actually, I suspect he is some disgruntled GI willing to sell his soul for 15 minuets of fame. . . people like him are a dime a dozen.

Heh. I tell a lot of my younger liberal friends that they are conservatives, they just don’t know it. When they start paying taxes, I’m sure their viewpoint will change a little.
VolMagic on May 12, 2008 at 5:17 PM
The person featured in the ad is named John Weiler, Former Staff Sgt., US Air Force. Served during Reagan and Bush I administrations.
There are a few John Weilers who have made political contributions in the last few years. Any way of pinpointing this guy’s state of residence? That might shed some light on the “lifelong Republican” claim.
Gilda on May 12, 2008 at 5:17 PM
These are the dangerous ones. They just vote for who their parents voted for and don’t consider WHY, that’s when you get numskulls like this guy that switch sides just because somebody can “talk all nice”.
malan89 on May 12, 2008 at 5:18 PM
Obama = Lincoln
Heh.
nailinmyeye on May 12, 2008 at 5:21 PM
I looked him up in the FEC contribution database. The ad says it was created by two people in Monrovia, California. The only John Weiler that’s donated in California was in Beverly Hills, CA in 1983 to a Democrat. No job description.
amerpundit on May 12, 2008 at 5:21 PM
He must have been in the branch of the military that had the real good chow.

kirkill on May 12, 2008 at 5:26 PM
Interesting, thanks.
Maybe someone with access to military databases can provide some additional background.
Not that this guy is necessarily dishonest, it’s just that extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

Obama the most extreme candidate the MOST Liberal senator in the Senate..
Obama has never worked with the other side, has never shown that he can do compromises..
A vote for Obama is a Vote against Checks & Balances.
The House and Senate are controlled by Democrats, IF Obama is in the White House Democrats would control everything with no Checks on power..
Power Corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Chakra Hammer on May 12, 2008 at 5:39 PM
Exactly, how could a lifelong Republican vote for a socialist tax raiser, abortionist, socialist health care etc.
Chakra Hammer on May 12, 2008 at 5:41 PM
Obama owned by Moveon(dot)org same old politics..
Corrupts politicians sold out to special interests groups.
Chakra Hammer on May 12, 2008 at 5:42 PM
Let’s examine the ribbon rack, using http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforcemedals/l/blafmedals.htm as a guide.
Bottom row, left to right: Short Overseas Tour, Marksmanship, and Training.
Middle row, left to right: Outstanding Unit (AFOUA), NCO PME Graduate, Longevity.
Whoops - hold it right there. The Longevity Ribbon is LOWER in precedence then the Overseas Short Tour ribbon. The NCO PME Graduate Ribbon is lower in precedence than both the Overseas short tour and the longevity ribbon. And this guy was supposedly a Staff Sgt?!?!? I’m sorry. As a 22 year Air Force Veteran, I’ve known Officers to screw up their ribbons, but never NCOs. Totally inexcusable…
Now the top row, left to right: Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal.
Again, WTF? The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award is higher in precedence than the Good Conduct Medal. So, the correct order for his ribbons from highest to lowest is: Achievement medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Short Tour, Longevity, NCO PME Graduate, Marksmanship, and the Training Ribbon. I call Bullsh*t on this joker.
rbb on May 12, 2008 at 5:48 PM
Lifelong Republican to a Liberal means they once thought of voting for a Republican. Funny that you need to show your medals to be taken serious.
Hening on May 12, 2008 at 5:50 PM
I should note that someone needs to save the original ad because, moveon may try to cover their tracks and delete the ribbons…

Michelle Obama quote, “BO’s mother wanted to make something of herself, even though she came from a small town in Kansas.”
This guy hasn’t heard where these elitists come from.
kirkill on May 12, 2008 at 5:51 PM
As I pointed out earlier, if they are trying to impress somebody with the ribbons., the least they could do would be to get them right…

I was in the army during Reagan’s and Bush’s terms. Then Clinton came along with his peace dividend and took all the fun out of the military.
As for who to vote for…errrr…this is a tough one…
tlynch001 on May 12, 2008 at 6:02 PM
Not necessarily. Many kids in Lincoln’s time were reading the classics. Today, kids are, like, reading graphic novels, dude. Good chance they won’t notice the difference.
eeyore on May 12, 2008 at 6:03 PM
Nobody…NOBODY…who served in the military under the first Clinton admin could possibly vote for a Dem. I don’t get it.

Sekhmet on May 12, 2008 at 6:23 PM
There’s a John Weiler in Burleson, Texas whose occupation is listed as “Retired”, which would make sense for a vet. He’s donated to three times to Political causes. Once to the “Campaign for Working Families”. And twice to a Texas Republican Congressman….guess who. Keep in mind that there are about 5 other John Weilers in the US, but he was one of the few who has donated to Reps and the only one with an occupation that made sense for a vet. You can go to Newsmeat and look at the other John Weilers yourselves.
malan89 on May 12, 2008 at 6:23 PM
You know the best part of clicking on the MoveOn page to see the ads and the judges? A comprehensive glance at a bnunch of Hollywood @sshats whom I shall no longer have to patronize. (A little bummed about Steve Buscemi, frankly; and Julia Stiles: well, I can still look at her with the sound down if I had to.)
Loved the playground politics ad (he typed, facetiously). How long did it take before they found the right African-American boy with the right skin tone to play the peacemaker (and in a blue shirt - didja notice?)? (”OK, kid - so you’re not going to be Obama, you’re just going to represent His essence. Aaaand: ACTION!”)
Poll some kids on a playground. Ask them if they’d have more fun playing Red Rover or standing in a circle holding hands. I’ll wait…
Captain Scarlet on May 12, 2008 at 6:24 PM
No, no, no. You have it wrong. Clinton was starving the military to save up a “peace dividend”…see it was peaceful… Probably why we ignored OBL when he was running around the Middle East yapping some baloney about “death to America”.

malan89 on May 12, 2008 at 6:45 PM
Forget what I said earlier. The John Weiler from the ad is a SoCal police detective. The only John Weiler in SoCal (actually, in all of CA) has only one political donation (according to Newsmeat’s FEC filing search engine) and it’s not exactly one a “lifelong Republican” would make. It’s to Alan Cranston, a true blue liberal Democrat, who actually called for the US to join a “world government”. Oh, yeah….lifelong Republican my ass.
malan89 on May 12, 2008 at 6:52 PM

malan89 on May 12, 2008 at 6:59 PM
As Uncle Jeremiah might say, that be white people drums, as opposed to “black” drums.
Seixon on May 12, 2008 at 7:08 PM
Yep, and those are all bullshit ribbons.
There was a Lcpl in my platoon and he had a real salad bowl going. One day during inspection the CO, an old battle hardened Colonel with a big rack of medals joking said to this old E-3 that they had the same number of ribbons. The Enlisted man shot back “oh, Sir, I don’t wear my bullshit ribbons”.
Or so the story goes.
TheSitRep on May 12, 2008 at 7:12 PM
I certainly hope that fellow is a DNC plant. If he’s really a Republican, then he’s absolutely the Poster Boy for the word “tool.”
The only way a person could possibly imagine Barack Obama represents all Americans, right or left, Democrat or Republican, is if his only source of information is Obama campaign ads. Please excuse my elitism, but in a fair world, there would be a test for voters that weeds out the ones who base their decision solely on campaign ads. I can’t imagine anything more discouraging to informed voters than to know that our vote counts the same as the vote from somebody like that.
‘Scuse me while I spit…

The Ugly American on May 12, 2008 at 7:29 PM
Seeing the other ads, it doesn’t look like this guy’s was the best. I wonder if he was really the choice of the judges. Did someone high up in MoveOn think that the shiny medals would cause veterns to vote for Obama?
snaggletoothie on May 12, 2008 at 7:43 PM
Yeah the whole “uber republican from birth” smells. Why is he selling it so hard? No republican wants his president to represent the left. I can’t wait to find out how many donks he’s worked to elect.

“They said he was unprepared” was far superior to the actual winner.

Yawn.
Who is this puke? He must have been in the Navy or Air Force (hehe). But seriously, if this is the best they can do…give me a break. Why not get a guy who is a member of the local VFW, with a chest full of medals, looks strack, served in combat arms… Ranger/Special ops whatever and delivers a serious message. Answer, because the people making the commercial can’t tell the difference.
No offense to the guy, but he doesn’t really encapsulate what most people think of when they think of a Vet.
Note to John: Crank out a similar type ad piece but with a meat eater and focus on who the guy is, his background and then hit the message. Unlike the moveon crowd, Vets know the difference.
moxie_neanderthal on May 12, 2008 at 11:28 PM
Something has to be done about George Soros. He is using his money to destroy this country from within. Unfortunatley, there is no one on the right to counter-balance him.
I sincerely believe that he has arranged this whole election. He managed to manipulate the system to get McCain as the Republican nominee, that way if one of his liberal Democrats (Hillary or Obama) lost and McCain were elected he would still have a liberal in the White House.
This whole election has got to be investigated.
