Video: The obligatory “O’Reilly goes berserk” flashback post

posted at 11:23 am on May 12, 2008 by Allahpundit

Proof positive that he’s actually mellowed in his old age, if you can believe it. Admit it, though: If he ever went off like this on Geraldo (which he nearly once did), you’d love him for it.

Exit question: What’s worse, the temper — or the hair? Content warning.

Update: Papa Bear takes it in good humor: “That video was just me practicing for my conversations with Geraldo.”

I’ve had days like that too, when the “machines” weren’t working. Kinda makes O’Reilly seem more human.

glad I dont watch TV, I dont have to care about stuff like this

hanzblinx on May 12, 2008 at 11:28 AM

Too bad he can’t stand up to Geraldo with the same energy…

The video stops at the 2 second mark.

SoulGlo on May 12, 2008 at 11:28 AM

Classic.

Thought at first they were setting him up for a Ron Burgundy moment.

JammieWearingFool on May 12, 2008 at 11:28 AM

DUDE!!! I would love to see him go off on Geraldo or one of those left wing wackos like that!!!

I can only imagine, at least he wasn’t leaving a phone message for his 12 year old daughter ;)

terryannonline on May 12, 2008 at 11:31 AM

What the hell? Why was this linked? Because Huffington post has this on their front page and we have to give out more hate to O’Reilly?

*Checks huffingtonpost.com*

Yup.

I’m so glad that we also pile on O’Reilly like all the other liberal blogs.

And defend Obama against negative internet ads on youtube.

No, really.

… no,

really.

What’s worse, the temper — or the hair?

Leave the hair alone! My hair looks just like that – TODAY!

If his show was like this everyday, I just might watch it more.

freakagriep on May 12, 2008 at 11:35 AM

That was funny. He pulled off the live ending without a hitch. No wonder he was so pissed at the teleprompter, he could do it much better live.

txsurveyor on May 12, 2008 at 11:38 AM

I was thinking that he looked a lot like Conan O’Brian in that clip.

SoulGlo on May 12, 2008 at 11:45 AM

Though I’m a O’Reilly fan this video is really funny. Seeing how he lashed out, I assume there was a lot more going on that day then just the teleprompter problems.

faraway on May 12, 2008 at 11:48 AM

What a pro. Over the top enraged one second and performing the stinger semi-pleasantly then next. Then back to enraged as he tears the jacket off.

What’s funny is that the Bill O haters hear him like this every night, even though he is much more mellow on a relative scale.

I was waiting for him to scream, “They were who we thought they were!!”

Mallard T. Drake on May 12, 2008 at 11:49 AM

I’m impressed he can go from cursing like a sailor and very agitated to a calm professional broadcaster in less than a second.

There is no way I could read off a prompter.

Typhonsentra on May 12, 2008 at 11:59 AM

I’ve never been an O’Reilly fan. Until now.

I disagree with him on I think half of his positions (he is sorta moderate, after all) but I agree with most people here, that instant “#%!%@%#@%@ – That’s it for us tonight” was amazing. Wonder what goes on behind the scenes at the Factor.

“And now for the back of the Cook seg – ah, %#!%!@$!@$%! Who wrote that! This sucks!”

Spirit of 1776 on May 12, 2008 at 12:23 PM

Funny clip.

Not the worst thing O’Reilly’s ever done, though. That would be writing Those who Trespass, a truly awful piece of fiction.

Allahpundit on May 12, 2008 at 11:35 AM

I completely agree, but I guess having a little more context might have been helpful. E.g., “Huffington is reporting that..” or whatever. With the way the post is presently constructed, I think you may unintentionally be conveying some schadenfreude.

On a related subject, when are we going to see The Boss on Fox primetime? I never get to see her when she’s on daytime rotation.

terryannonline on May 12, 2008 at 11:31 AM

Or the ego.

Myself, I quit watching O’Reilly long ago, once it became apparent that he’s a solipsistic buffoon.

paul006 on May 12, 2008 at 12:31 PM

So, O’Reilly doesn’t take enough unfair hits from liberal bloggers, he now has to take crap from a conservative blogger as well? This was a moment of personal frustration with support staff who had given him something to say that was foreign to him, and that never was going to be public, but you felt it necessary to publicize it because of some personal grudge against the guy. I have said much worse than that on the job, and I’m a successful professional.

Be ashamed, AllahPundit, or whatever your idiot stage name is.

neuromancer on May 12, 2008 at 12:32 PM

Geez. Lighten up guys. Only the Huffpos could twist this into some far fetched BOR lunacy meme.

Hell. I think it’s funny.

BacaDog on May 12, 2008 at 12:36 PM

Never had much use for O’Reilly as a “newsman”, but he’s definitely a showman. When he’s right, he’s right, and when he’s wrong, he’s positively abysmal.

But this video makes me appreciate him quite a bit as a human being.

AND as a professional, as has been already pointed out. Damn, but that was slick. From cast iron bitch to professional, smiling presenter in a second and then, at the end, ad libbing a perfect, friendly ramp straight off the cuff right after having gone ballistic.

I still think that a lot of his opinions are downright idiotic, but there is now no doubt in my mind that he’s good at what he does. That, and his delivery of cuss is great. I wish he’d do it more often.

Misha I on May 12, 2008 at 12:43 PM

I wonder if he still loses his temper off camera. So many talking heads on TV have these things come out every now and then…you think they’d be more careful…the camera’s always recording. And if ya piss-off the wrong person, they’ll get the tape out.

JetBoy on May 12, 2008 at 12:45 PM

Something for NBC to think about a decade or so from now, since Conan’s set to take over the Tonight Show from Jay Leno next year (though in that case, at least they’ll never have to worry about Al Franken or Alec Baldwin going on the show).

Bill’O is a blowhard? Stop the Presses!!

The obscenity aside, this is no big deal. Personally, I don’t care about it at all. Is it really news that people get frustrated from time to time. There are much more egregious problems with Bill’O about which to get irritated (like his corp-bashing silliness). I basically find him unwatchable, but this is hardly inflammatory–or out of character.

Bill’O needs to lighten up about trying to protect his “image” and YouTube needs to be shut down for caring not one whit for people’s right to express themselves (by reminding the world what a blowhard this alleged news man is).

Dude, that sort of viewpoint is just plain scary. Not only should Allah not be ashamed – he is demonstrating with this post the REASON this blog has value. It is because, unlike places populated with unthinking Kool-Aid guzzlers like you, free thought is allowed here.

In case you haven’t noticed, unlike what you seem to support, this place routinely goes after conservatives when they fail to live up to expected standards.

That is WHY we are different from liberals. That is WHY opinions here are interesting.

And if you don’t like what’s posted here, go plug yourself into Rush or Hannity and tune out your brain. You’ll feel better.

Since when is listening to Rush “turning off” one’s brain? He voices precisely what we conservatives have always believed and held true. Identifying with Rush and his message is certainly nowhere near the same as being a mind-numbed liberal who has had his or her brain washed, rinsed and filled with the ignorant hubris of leftist professors and media acolytes.

Do I smell yet another Republican elitist amongst us here? Stay in the McCain camp where you belong. :P

Jockolantern on May 12, 2008 at 11:14 PM

As for the O’Reilly vid… who cares? A lot of us have had our own tempers flair on occassion. Just because O’Reilly’s Irish rage sparked up on camera all those years ago doesn’t somehow make him worse than any of us just because we’re not hosting Inside Edition. :P Gimme’ a break, people.

If McCain has a temper like this, call me crazy but I’d love to see it show up somewhere along the line. Maybe if/when McCain and Ahmandenijad have a little “heart-to-heart,” McCain can show us a little bit of that fire that the liberal/media hypocrites prod him for. Might actually remind us of the days when our country’s leaders were peppy and temperamental, particularly on the set of the House and Senate.

Besides, O’Reilly’s hair back then is far more offensive than anything that came out of his mouth.
