This election ain’t just about the next four years. It’s about control of the Supreme Court.

Red Pill on May 12, 2008 at 11:30 AM

Supreme court judges will probably be a Non sequitur. The only reason libs need a activist judges is to bypass the legislative process because they presently can't pass the legislation that they want. Hence, appoint judges that will rule in their favor on socialist agendas even if the ruling does not conform to the written law or tramples on state's rights.

Conservative judges are known for following the rule of law despite their personal feeling and issue rulings conforming to the constitution and why the law was written.

If the election goes as predicted, the the United States will have a democratic congress and senate. Why on earth will they need to appoint activist judges when they can pass into law all their social agendas. I have no doubt that any of the three clowns running, Clinton, Obama, or McCain, will use their veto pen on these bills. Hence, the democrats can pass any legislation they want.

And now for the final irony. The conservative judges will have to uphold these laws, because they know that their job is to uphold the law as written by the legislative branch, not make law.

With this in mind, who do you vote for? McCain or Hillary/Obama. All three of these peanuts share the same pod.

I am not a Paulian, but I am not a McCainian either. The way I see it go Paul, cause the GOP needs to be shook up, it has lost its way big time. McCain is absolutely the worst possible candidate. I am looking to Bob Barr, or maybe I will write-in Fred Thompson this November. I have voted Republican since 1964 but this year there will be none on the ballot.

Oldnuke - would you like some free manners lessons? It is not whining to ask that we stop acting like namecalling schoolyard bullies, something we rail on liberals for doing.

MadisonConservative - Drop the drama and get your head on straight. Wanting an end to the venom and petty mocking of the Paulites is not the same thing as calling for censorship of truly important, deeply-held beliefs.

Hollowpoint - Perhaps for supporting a candidate that is better than the mainstream ones, alias "the Three Stooges"?

LevStrauss on May 12, 2008 at 6:31 PM

Interesting - and I suppose you think we had it coming on 9/11 too?

Let's see here:

The National Security Letter (NSL) has been around since 1978 - yes, when Jimbo was in office;

Habeas Corpus has historically been suspended or limited at times of war or following acts of terrorism committed against the U.S. (Civil War, WWII, Oklahoma bombing, and War on Terror).  Furthermore, the restrictions you seem so concerned about don't apply to U.S. Citizens (Hamdi v. Rumsfeld, 542 U.S. 507 (2004)); and, if you are so concerned about non U.S. citizens' rights who are deemed enemy combatants, this issue has been working its way through the legislative and judicial systems (Habeas Corpus Restoration Act and recent Supreme Court decisions agreeing to hear appeals of detainees regarding habeas corpus);

Emminent Domain - I agree that there is abuse here that needs to be addressed;

Warrants are passe and all oversight is done internally
- you need to be more specific, as that is a very broad and unsubstantiated allegation;

warrantless wiretapping program
- the NSA was authorized by executive order to monitor, without warrants, phone calls, e-mails, Internet activity, and text messaging, and other communication involving any party believed by the NSA to be outside the U.S., even if the other end of the communication lies within the U.S.  It applies when the government has a reasonable basis to conclude that one party to the communication is a member of al Qaeda, affiliated with al Qaeda, or a member of an organization affiliated with al Qaeda, or working in support of al Qaeda and that one party to the conversation is outside of the United States.  Also, Congress was notified (as required by law) - being that the administration fulfilled its notification obligations by briefing 13 key members of Congress (which included members from both parties) more than a dozen times.  Unfortunately, the Dems and their friends at the NY Times decided to politicize this as part of their culture of corruption claims - which apparently you agree with;

They say that they hope they don’t have to attack Iran but they are lying because they turned down any cooperation from Iran after 9/11 when they were helping against Al Qaeda.
- that is a half-truth. You sound like Michael Moore. Let's be realistic here. Iran has not been our friend since they opted to take our embassy by force and hold our people hostage. They have been trying to undermine us ever since. And to think that Iran's offer of cooperation after 9/11 was genuine is ridiculous - Iran did it for show. The fact that you are even considering buddying up with Iran, shows that you have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

As for the rest of your rants, I agree with some, but not all.
This country is going to hell and people like you, with either your cowardice to admit fault or ignorance to reality are part of the problem.
  That's just your opinion - I agree that we are headed for troubled times, but Ron Paul is far from being the solution. You can't ignore the problems going on outside this country - think about how the Cold War would have resulted had we done that then. Taking the Neville Chamberlain approach has shown to do more harm than good. And, taking the "Bushhitler"/America the Imperialist/no rights in America stance is counterproductive, to say the least.

Bob Barr has just announced his candidacy for President on the LIbertarian ticket.

...That war money for all these unnecessary ones are coming out of our children’s pockets and it will be on this new generation’s back and probably generations afterward if we are as ignorant and complacent as previous ones...We have some 400 Mormons displaced from a fake phone call and many of the kids might not be reunited with their family...

    Could I ask that the mods please close the comments? It’s obvious by now that almost nobody here is willing to do anything to Ron Paul supporters except mock them and call names like third graders.

New mayor says top priority is ridding Carrollton of illegal immigrants
    Look for the fight against illegal immigration to intensify in Dallas' northwest suburbs.
    Carrollton's next mayor, Ron Branson, said Sunday that he'll begin working immediately to rid the city of illegal immigrants.
    His come-from-behind election victory Saturday night coincided with the expected mayoral win in neighboring Farmers Branch by a better-known activist on the same issue: Tim O'Hare.
    "Illegal immigration has got to be at the top," Mr. Branson said. "Every place I went, people wanted to talk about that."
    He said he will create a citizens committee to come up with ideas for driving out illegal immigrants.
    And he plans to meet regularly with Mr. O'Hare, who has led Farmers Branch's efforts to ban property rentals to illegal immigrants.

    Carrollton’s next mayor, Ron Branson, said Sunday that he’ll begin working immediately to rid the city of illegal immigrants.
His come-from-behind election victory Saturday night coincided with the expected mayoral win in neighboring Farmers Branch by a better-known activist on the same issue: Tim O’Hare.
“Illegal immigration has got to be at the top,” Mr. Branson said. “Every place I went, people wanted to talk about that.”
He said he will create a citizens committee to come up with ideas for driving out illegal immigrants.
And he plans to meet regularly with Mr. O’Hare, who has led Farmers Branch’s efforts to ban property rentals to illegal immigrants.

Could I ask that the mods please close the comments? It’s obvious by now that almost nobody here is willing to do anything to Ron Paul supporters except mock them and call names like third graders.

We calls 'em like we sees 'em.

Besides, of what use are the Rontards and their cultish devotion to the Bircheresque Crank aside from being a target of mockery? Answer: None.

The people that <strike>agreed with Clinton </strike>on foreign policy and apparently warrants as well should not be making decisions for Republican administrations but they currently do.

err, do you mean Ronald Reagan...and all the way back to George Washington for that matter on "wiretaps"

Well lets see here genius. As it stands now the government can silence your freedom of speech with a "National Security Letter" which it has been found to abuse recently. Sneak and peak searches and no more habeas corpus. Eminent domain. Warrants are passe and all oversight is done internally, by the same kind of people who committed perjury and told us Saddam could attack us in 45 minutes. Of course with the warrantless wiretapping program they tried to seek congressional approval and were told that wouldn't fly, so they just said that they could do it anyway, read Alberto's first press conference on it for insight into that one. They say that they hope they don't have to attack Iran but they are lying because they turned down any cooperation from Iran after 9/11 when they were helping against Al Qaeda. That war money for all these unnecessary ones are coming out of our children's pockets and it will be on this new generation's back and probably generations afterward if we are as ignorant and complacent as previous ones, but that is understandable for them at least since they were educated on three TV channels and most people still get their information from a narrow range of sources, usually biased to their liking. Then you have quite possibly the Real ID being forced down our throats, surveillance cameras going up all over the place, small town USA getting tanks for "homeland security", which is code for pork. We have some 400 Mormons displaced from a fake phone call and many of the kids might not be reunited with their family. All of this is the complacency that I am talking about. People are too busy looking at the Dems, who are always useless anyway, instead of introspection as a party. The Dems didn't beat us in 2006, we were just that horrible, and continuing to make the same mistakes will yield similar results. The people that agreed with Clinton on foreign policy and apparently warrants as well should not be making decisions for Republican administrations but they currently do.

Let's also see what's coming down the pike. Deficit spending, plus bipartisan socialism, plus bipartisan over regulation, plus free trade, plus amnesty equals an economy, a job market, and a currency that will have plenty problems competing against other countries. This country is going to hell and people like you, with either your cowardice to admit fault or ignorance to reality are part of the problem. "But...but...Clinton" never worked on me these past eight years because I have always been a Conservative. Everyone who rationalized these criminals in the white house are to blame for the European Socialism that is to come, whether it comes from Republican or Democratic administration is becoming a coin flip.
