In regard to MrLynn’s post, it might be helpful to know who is Doctor Fred Singer, he was director of the National Weather Satellite Center (now part of NOAA) toward the beginning of his career. But that’s the modest part of his résumé, since then he’s earned a list of credentials longer than the average arm.

Where is the scientific equivalent of this man on the global warming scammer side? Please don’t say Al Gore, unless you just want to make me laugh.

But if Dr. Singer doesn’t have enough horsepower for you, perhaps someone on this list of nineteen-thousand two hundred physicists, geophysicists, climatologist, meteorologists, oceanographers, and environmental scientists will do the trick.

Remember the IPCC only claimed to have had 2,500, but of course many of them disagreed that global warming was any kind of threat. And the dissenters among those scientist had their comments removed from the final IPCC reports.

The Senator may think that, but in my view he’s dead wrong: the evidence is piling up that effectively refutes the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) hypothesis. Not only did that last warm period stop in 1998, but now predictions are that the Earth may cool for the next ten years. NASA’s new Aqua system indicates the ocean temperatures are cooling. And most damaging of all, the basic prediction made by the AGW models, that atmospheric temperatures in the tropics would heat up because of positive feedback from water vapor, has been falsified: just the opposite occurs. You would believe too if your paycheck depended on it. Look, we got thousands of “scientist” in the field that will lose their paychecks if they stop finding evidence of global warming. These people have mortgages and car payments and kids in school, it’s very hard for them not to just go along. Don’t believe me you say? Try this.

The real key to wind and solar is to move them both to space. Then the solar will work all the time bcs there is no “night”, and the wind can blow 24/7 since there are no trees to get in the way.

Why on earth is he campaigning on this issue in the first place?

I’m not so sure he’s actually on Earth, but assuming he is-

He thinks (and no one in his inner circle would dare say otherwise lest they be fired) that he needs to put some space btwn himself and Pres Bush.

The Dims have a basic two prong attack plan. His age and 4 more years of GWB. His position on MMGW is to show that he’s young enough to “get it” and provides a policy distinction from GWB.

Are conservatives tearing their hair out over this nonsense? Yes we are. Does that mean we are going to vote Paul or Barr? Some who are in that camp will remain there and they certainly aren’t going McC if he talks about being a MMGW believer. For the rest, the biggest concern for McC will be conservatives sitting it out.

For myself, while I think MMGW is a big ripoff scheme, I don’t view it as the biggest issue out there so I won’t base my vote on it. It will only cause some mild nausea, not a full on upchuck.

No, the bigger issues are the War on Terror and Supreme Court judges. On these, he seems to be on the right side of the issues. If I start hearing otherwise, then my lever pulling arm will go numb.

So McCain has chosen to work his way up to the steering wheel of this runaway bus called Global Warming, and steer the bus towards a more gradual path down the hill. Real key to Wind and Solar? They don’t work all the time.

Wind power does not work unless the wind is blowing… Solar does not work at night… so you HAVE to have more standard forms of power generation there for when those extras don’t function.

It increases the cost of ALL energy, because of the increased plant costs.

While usually indisposed to conspiracy theories, I’m becoming convinced that the movers and shakers behind Gorebull Warming intend it as an assault on capitalism and America’s economic strength.

I hate to be in the position of defending a theory that I personally don’t accept – and do not consider myself in a position meaningfully to accept or reject – but I do know what Global Warmists say they believe. BTW, some of the politically sophisticated ones started arguing against using the term long ago, not just recently, anticipating precisely the kind of misunderstandings that never cease to give mirth to self-assured conservative critics.

In a GW-ist’s view, local weather would be a small part of the larger super-mechanism that you call a “heat sink.” The scenarios that GW alarmists imagine do not rest on the idea that the weather overall will get uniformly hotter and hotter, causing, among other things, bikinis to become standard in the Twin Cities in December. They imagine increasing destabilization of climate patterns, eventually including disruption of major cycles and flows like the Gulf Stream, that may produce wide variations in local effects: heat waves and droughts here, cold snaps and floods there, on the surface where the human population resides.

The titles of the first two novels from Kim Stanley Robinson’s Global Warming Disaster Trilogy may give you an idea: 50 DEGREES BELOW and 40 SIGNS OF RAIN. I have no idea what the title 60 DAYS AND COUNTING in Book 3 refers to – but it’s probably not anything good. I did read 50 DEGREES BELOW, however, and in it Robinson imagines the ice caps almost totally melting away, even while Washington DC is plunged into near-Arctic winters. I’ll just add that Robinson has a reputation in SF circles as a writer of “hard SF” – that is, very well researched and grounded in science, and not always to good effect on readability.

My point, I repeat, is not to suggest that Robinson’s views are correct and rational, but rather to point out that, to a GW true believer, a skeptic going on and on about an extended winter in the US disproving the theory sounds like a Flat-Earther asserting that, if the world was round, we’d fall off.

IF carbon is causing global warming, as the theory goes, then as carbon goes up, the TOTAL amount of heat in the atmosphere/water would increase as well. Hoever, NASA and the UN says that the temperature has platued the last 10 years, and will go DOWN for the next 10… even with increasing carbon.

But more importantly, the debate is not simply about who is right and who is wrong. It is about whether or not the American people give government the power to SAVE THE PLANET by regulating, and thus controling, EVERY CONCEIVABLE THING ATTRIBUTED TO ANTHROPOLOGICAL GLOBAL WARMING. McLeod, this is not simply a paper vs. plastic debate. It is about a free people demanding that their “limited” government get off its AZZ and take as much power form us as it deems necessary to save the world.

So, just exactly what issue, what right, what life is more important than saving the planet? Upon feverishly saving the planet from certain destruction, what won’t get done that desperately needs doing?

Question: What gets pushed aside for the greater good? Answer: EVERYTHING and EVERYONE does, because saving the planet is the ultimate greater good.

Just like I dislike McCain/ Finegold, McCain /Kennedy, porous borders, lack of interrogation techniques, Gang of 14, shall I continue?

That’s the problem. There is a need to continue. I’m in total agreement with you, except for one little problem–Obama.

Unless/until I can find a way around that little conundrum, I see no way out. We are beating ourselves up because McCain shares much in common with Democrats, and for reasons which call into question his intelligence, and we thought a “Republican” was going to win in November. That’s not happening.
