I wouldn’t call what he did to himself a tracheotomy. I’d call it stabbing yourself in the throat and living to talk about it in a raspy voice.

Of course it helps to know HOW to cryc someone never mind yourself. The crychoid cartilage can be kind of squirrelly when you are operating on someone else (in the field under adverse conditions) just imagine what it would be like to do it to yourself.

These are called moments of clarity.

We are taught that those who survive are those who have the will to survive.

And that ladies and gentleman is no bullshit.

I wonder why they spelled God “god” in the printed text of what he was saying. With a story like this, you would think a capital G would be warranted. I’ll bet he thinks so. Oh, and Him too.

Could be worse. Just read about a guy in the UK whose house was broken into by guys with axes. He barricaded himself,his wife, and children in an upstairs bedroom and called the police who took 2 hours to arrive. Gun ownership is restriced and you are not allowed to shoot a burglar even if you have one. The burglars cleaned them out while the family was forced to listen.

911 is fine, but it’s no substitute for taking action when you should be.

I was on the phone with 911 one night, crouched down in my kitchen with a 9 shot in my hand watching a guy trying to break in my back door after he had just cut off the power. I told the dispatcher that if he came in, he was toast. He took off after detecting that someone was still home. It was at least 10 minutes before a squad car showed up.
