Why I’m writing in Hillary this November

For realsies, dude. This is happening. Three reasons: 1) She’s full-blown nuts and I figure every extra write-in vote she gets helps a tiny bit in keeping her from running amok; 2) McCain’s amnesty jackassery has finally passed the point of acceptability, and given that Obama’s going to win NYS by 30 points, my vote won’t matter anyway; 3) I’m a sucker for the mom stuff. You had me at hello, Chelsea. Mom in 2008!

Exit question: You think I can wrangle a press pass?

Update: My new iPhone ringtone.

Hillary has said Amnest in the first 100days in a debate and Obama agreed.

Chakra Hammer on May 9, 2008 at 6:38 PM

I’m wit’ya, bro. Except I live in Pennsylvania, and us bitter small-town white folks might actually elect John McCain. So I think I am gonna have to hold my nose and vote for him. Hopefully Lou Barletta will get elected to Congress and keep his feet to the fire on illegal immigration.

Anyone who really wants to do something about this, go give Mr. Barletta some money and help him get elected.

Obama’s going to win NYS by 30 points

Why assume this? NY sometimes elects moderate Republicans to high office – Gov. Pataki, for instance – and McCain is a moderate Republican. NY was also the state hardest hit by 9-11, and Obama’s strange sympathy for terrorists is unlikely to play well there. Plus, Obama beat up NY’s junior senator. All in all, I think McCain has a good shot at carrying NY … and NJ … and PA … and NM … and an outside shot at CA, too. (Hey, CA elected Schwarzenegger as governor, and he and McCain are virtually identical on the issues. Not to mention that Obama remains deeply unpopular with Hispanics.)

I’m baffled by AP’s pessimism. I can only assume he doesn’t remember McGovern, Mondale, and Dukakis very well. Obama is just another in a long line of fa-left Dem nominees who will be trounced in November.

Don’t worry, be happy.

The mentality is nice, but I really don’t believe McCain stands a chance against the liberal Messiah, especially not in one of the bluest states in this country.

McCain has limited resources. Obama does not.

With that in mind, he can’t fight as hard for every state.

Hitting the Newcastle already AP?

I may take the DPUD route and write in Zombie Reagan. Just seeing the words “Hillary Clinton” in my own handwriting on a ballot would make me lose my lunch.

Besides, if McCain did well enough in MN (which hasn’t gone red in over 30 years) that my vote was important, he’d have it in the bag nationally. More likely though it’ll be Obama by such a wide margin here that a few less conservative votes won’t make a damn bit of difference.

I’m writing in Fred Thompson or maybe John Bolton here in Arizona. McCain will do exactly for the US as he has for AZ. Absolutely nothing except run as cover for the illegals.

Sorry, but St. John is a war hero that sucks.

AZCON on May 9, 2008 at 7:18 PM

On Monday, he lobbied for a broader approach that includes a temporary guest worker program and tamper-proof ID cards.

“We get in this kind of a circular firing squad on immigration reform in the Congress of the United States,” McCain said, “and the lesson I learned from it is we’ve got to have comprehensive immigration reform.”

I think his point is that a border security-only bill can’t make it through congress, not that border security isn’t a worthwhile goal. Any bill that doesn’t satisfy the agriculture lobby will fail, and the agriculture lobby isn’t going to accept an effective moratorium on cheap labor. “Secure the borders first” isn’t a viable option – it’s DOA in congress no matter which party has a majority.

Allahpundit on May 9, 2008 at 6:38 PM

Sure. The country could save some energy by just having the presidential contest in about a half dozen states. Money and influence cross state lines though. Hopefully, there will be enough of both flowing into the few battleground states to keep Obama out of the White House.

This is the same state that elected the troop-bashing, flip-flopping, surrender monkey Kerry by 20 points. And Gore by 25 points.

Kerry didn’t run as a left-winger. He ran as a war hero with three Purple Hearts. Gore ran as the successor to Clinton, a moderate Southern Democrat who passed welfare reform and NAFTA.

Obama is a different story. He is a hard-left, fringe candidate best known for hanging with Weather Underground terrorists and crazy anti-American preachers.

He will be crushed in November. Everywhere.

sauropod on May 9, 2008 at 7:32 PM

With Hillary as is, what have we learned?

It was really never the formidable “Clinton Machine” that we feared. If that machine were the Clinton’s, there would be no Obama. It isn’t the Obama Machine, either. It isn’t even just the DNC, it is the MSM. And those who own the MSM own Wall Street as well as both political parties, though flaunting the DNC for having succumbed to this politico-economic machine’s Progressive Party a century ago.

AP thoughtfully gives in to Hillary for mother’s day, passing on the progressive torch. Compared to Obama, Hillary earned her place in that machine. But since she does not serve the machine so compliantly as Obama, she’s out and he’s in. If AP wants Hillary’s appreciation, though, it ain’t gonna happen. And if AP wants to spite McCain, that’s one way.

But why roll over rather than put up a good fight?

RightOFLeft on May 9, 2008 at 7:44 PM

My last comment didn’t come off quite how I wanted. I don’t want to defend McCain-Kennedy: it was a dreadful bill that was justly trounced. We’ve got to be realistic about immigration reform, though. The all-or-nothing approach isn’t going to work. There are too many competing interests to build a viable political coalition. A lot of the really cynical bluster about securing the borders is coming from politicians who really have no stake in the issue. They see it as a safe way to drum up votes without having to worry about ever living up to their rhetoric.

Nobody’s criticizing them, though. At least McCain is talking about solutions we might actually see implemented in the real world.

Hello? Are you kidding? Obama lost in the Democratic primary. From this it does not follow that he will lose New York in a general election. New York is a deep blue state; McCain will not carry it.

As AP notes, it simply doesn’t matter how, or whether, he votes. Or at least it doesn’t with respect to the presidential election.

Why I’m writing in Hillary this November

Don’t jump the gun. You’ll get your chance in November 2012. She’s not finished destroying BHO’s chances yet.

My collie says:

And if we’re lucky, the Mayan calendar is correct, and the world will end on December 21st, 2012 — just a few days before that wicked witch will take the oath of office.

No, I live in New York. The result here is a foregone conclusion.

New York went for Reagan in 1984. And in ‘80 and ‘88, they only went Dem by 4% each time.

Not that this is the 80s. I know times have changed; I was just surprised to see those numbers.

Tanya on May 9, 2008 at 8:36 PM

Tell ya what, Chels. You run from here away from the public trough and, hopefully, into a very lucrative career in private enterprise. For that, you have my best wishes.

You can’t be serious.

The primary may hurt her cred with the Fightin’ Netroots ™, but with political tides coming and going, who knows where she’ll be in 4 years. If McCain beats Obama, she’d have another run at it.

The only thing that would accomplish is making her the most despised Democrat next to Lieberman. And even though she holds that title now, a 3rd party run would make it permanent.

Zorro on May 9, 2008 at 9:15 PM

Obama will implode long before November.

But the Dem Party will cling to him -like a scared monkey to a wire “mother”- in a sad behavioralism experiment.

McCain will then sweep even NY state as Obama and the Dems limp along in their losing “Let’s Not Alienate the Blacks” folly.

They are trapped in their Identity Politics.

It will destroy them this cycle.

And they know it.

profitsbeard on May 9, 2008 at 9:31 PM

So what? McCain will do amnesty in the first 100 days. Difference is, Obama isn’t representing my party, or expecting my vote. It would be nice if the GOP nominee actually would represent a few of the party planks. As it is, amnesty from a Dem president has a higher chance of being fought by a GOP minority in Congress than one from McCain. See rewarding a backstabber with a promotion is kind of an enticement for others in the party to exercise their middle fingers to the base as well. No, I’d rather take my chances with a Dem president.
Now where are the McCain scolds? The cheerleaders to tell the non McCain voters how stupid they are for not toeing the line. Chakra took a half hearted swipe but nothing like the good frothy anger you normally find in these threads. Then again, calling the moderator names isn’t a good long term strategy. We voting NY Repubs aren’t stupid. But. If juuusst enough Dems get cocky and stay home and juusst enough Repubs stop saying “foregone conclusion” then one of these election days it will tip enough and we’ll win the day. It only takes one day.

NOTHING will keep me from the polls on election day. You just don’t know for sure what will happen. Especially this year. Repubs too lazy to even try? New ringtone: “Shame on you, lazy voters!”

inviolet on May 10, 2008 at 10:19 AM

I thought more about it now and I’m still supporting McCain.

Immigration will continue to be a major controversy until Congress passes legislation that does something. I want to see a pure border enforcement bill. The only way that gets through Congress is a strong grassroots campaign.

McCain might prefer an amnesty bill, but he would sign a border enforcement bill. That’s better than Hillary or the Amazing Obama.

Chakra took a half hearted swipe but nothing like the good frothy anger you normally find in these threads. Then again, calling the moderator names isn’t a good long term strategy. Same goes for voters. Sad that McCain never figured that out.

McCain, has said secure the border first before any Amnesty, he has learned from the last time. Also he is the only one talking about bio-metric ID’s and better systems..

(I personally believe the VISA needs to be addressed and fixed, the way it is now, it is not secure, for guests, students, or “workers”)
