You know. It really p*sses me off that the Iraqis seem not to care about their country. We can’t keep playing wet nurse to them, and I’m very tired of their lack of understanding that Iraq is their nation, not ours. Their responsibility, not ours. Their financial burden, not ours.

I guess you haven't met the Iraqis I have then...

I watch them fight for their country every day. I see their casualties too.

As for the money - Look up "FMS" or "Foreign Military Sales". The Iraqis are doing more of this on their dime now. They are buying equipment, repair parts, ammo and such instead of having it handed to them. And they are buying it, primarily, from us. And they sure have the means, with oil over $120 a barrel!

As for the once again announcement of a capture by the IG...I dunno if it is deception or not - I doubt it, but then again, I am an advisor to the Iraqi Army, not a spy or intel guy.

Most likely what happened is the Iraqi Politico's in their self motiivated effort to look good (hey, that's what politicians do) jumped the gun and made the claim before the criminalist at any of the 6 crime labs there could finish running the prints or DNA. (It ain't like CSI and Gets resualts between commercial breaks ya know.)

"After further investigation it was revealed that the suspect was not al-Masri, the purported leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, but rather a teenager lighting a bag of dogshit on a neighbor's porch. The Iraqi government regrets its error."

Reminds me of the 2006 Lebanon/Israel war when the "daring Israeli commando raid" successfully captured Nasrallah. But it wasn't the Nasrallah the Israelis were hoping for, but was actually Hasan Dib Nasrallah, an old Lebanese grocer. I guess it was an honest mistake, since Dib Nasrallah looks so much like the Hezbollah leader.
The story would have been hilarious if the Israeli incompetance had not led to the deaths of two Lebanese citizens. Maybe those two dead people have relatives or friends that joined Hezbollah as a result of the pathetic incident. Of course, those people would now be "terrorists."

Perhaps this was deliberate misinformation by the Coalition to expose parts of the AQI network.

That's how we captured Tariq Azziz. Remember that guy?

After invading Kuwait in 1990 and facing the U.S. and the Allies in 1991: "My country does not want, uh, how you say? ... How you say? Uh, uh, war."

Minor Heartbreak.

There is no more tenuous "job" in the world than leading insurgents in Iraq. It's only a matter of time before this guy is trussed up and paraded before the cameras, or (more likely) scattered hither and yon, his identity confirmed using tidbits of flesh in a test tube.

The bright side if you're a jihadi? Lots of opportunity for advancement.

I know what we are doing is noble. But like here at home with welfare cheats, if you don't cut off the aid, there is no incentive to go about it alone and gain confidence.
