Bubbaruption: Bill chews out Obama-supporting heckler

Some are claiming that this latest Bubbaruption shows the former president remains a big liability for Hillary Clinton, but in this case I think he’s on solid ground. Bill stumped for his wife in Fayetteville, West Virginia, but got interrupted at a rally by an Obama supporter, who charged that Hillary and Bill never did anything about health care. Bill got angry as he usually does when heckled, and called the allegation “crazy” (via TMV):
It’s hard to make out what the heckler said to enrage Clinton, but the mini-interview at the end provides the answer. The Obama supporter claims that Hillary “campaigned like hell” on health care during the 1992 election, but two weeks after the inauguration, she “disappeared” into the White House and never emerged. Regardless of how one feels about the Clinton effort on health care, Bill’s right about one thing: the heckler’s either crazy or an idiot. Hillary ran the Health Care Task Force for the better part of two years and emerged with a plan to nationalize health care. She and Bill staged an enormous public-relations campaign which definitely got results; the Democrats lost Congress in 1994, and Hillary went back to normal First Lady duties, such as dashing through Tuzla’s airfield.
The Obama supporter claims that her version is “fact”. That demonstrates the fantasy life in which many Obama supporters engage. Don’t crush their dreams by pointing out that Hillary did indeed work on health care (in dangerous ways), or that Barack Obama has done exactly nothing on the issue for the three years he’s been in the Senate. Hope and Change aren’t about facts, after all — they’re about feelings. And who cares if Obama supporters have no grasp of history or facts as long as they feel as though they do?

The headline from WJNO claims “Bill Clinton Screams at Voter”. I didn’t hear any screaming. I think he was right on this point.

That about sums most Obama supporters.

As I wrote in the headlines:
Meh. I wouldn’t refer to that as screaming at a voter. The lady was acting like a moron and he sternly defended Hillary against, of all charges, not working hard. If there is one thing about Hillary Clinton that I can never critisize her for that would be laziness. My god, the woman is relentless. She’s like the terminator charging forward one inevitable step at a time. The woman won’t die. Lazy? Hardly.

I’m no fan but he heckled the heckler. Good.

I would probably get mad too if I got interpreted and was throwing accusations that aren’t true. I think Hillary is the type of politician that follows whatever the political winds are leading her except on health care. I think we all know she is serious about universal health cre.

What’s more extreme these days?? The MSM in the tank for BHusseinObama.. OR the right wing blogs(talk radio) in the tank for Hillary??? This is a bizarre election cycle, but I am enjoying the hell out of it. Either way we are screwed.
One down, two to go .
redrock on May 9, 2008 at 12:14 PM
Where’s the screaming? The MSM is pathetic, but the saddest thing is that most voters still don’t know that. Every time McCain opens his mouth from August to November, expect the headline to be that he angrily screamed at somebody, even if he’s reading stories to little kids in a library.
And they will get cheered on by the MDS “True Conservatives” at every turn. Ridiculous.
funky chicken on May 9, 2008 at 12:14 PM
We can only hope that having to deal with crazy idiot Obama supporters as often has he has had to will convince the Clintons that Senate Majority Leader will be a hell of a lot better deal than a possible VP job.
funky chicken on May 9, 2008 at 12:16 PM
‘they promised and they didn’t deliver’
I wonder why they give Pelosi a pass on promising to end the war? Ole Barry O had better hope that the American people are resourceful enough to work its way out of this recession or people like this freak are going to heckle him about promising but not delivering.
One thing you can’t criticize Hillary for is health care. They modernized the VA system of keeping records, and they proposed a national health care card in the state of the union speech. I don’t know what more proof this person needs that Clinton worked on health care more than anyone before and anyone sense. Actually she is why there are so many privacy laws too. HIPPA (which I think is too much regulation when you can’t tell parents that a child is in the hospital) was a direct result of Hillary. As were rules on portability of coverage through pre-existing condition credit for new policies. Hillary did a lot concerning health care - even though that is not a role of the government.
ThackerAgency on May 9, 2008 at 12:17 PM
What is crazy is that tie he is wearing. Can’t a millionaire pick out better clothes?
As for the heckler, another 60’s retread. I can’t wait till that generation is too old to speak anymore!
ctmom on May 9, 2008 at 12:17 PM
What was Michelle Obama doing at a Clinton rally anyway?
I don’t think even Bill would do her.
Syd B. on May 9, 2008 at 12:17 PM
That whole Tuzla thing is just a big misunderstanding. At one point, Hillary was heading into Oklahoma for a rally. Obama was already there, having his own rally. When the folks at the Obama rally realized that Hillary was in an airplane heading their direction, they were up in arms. Hillary’s plane had to take evasive action and land at a nearby airport. It’s the easiest thing in the world to confuse what happened at Tuzla with what happened at Tulsa. ;-)
Buford Gooch on May 9, 2008 at 12:19 PM
If this is an indication of the Obama campaign in the general, McCain will be painted as a child-eating Klansman, because that’s how the Obamatrons feel about it.
michaelo on May 9, 2008 at 12:22 PM
This is going to be the most difficult thing McCain will face in the general election.

I cant stand Bill or Hillary BUT to say they campaigned on healthcare and disappeared into the WH and did nothing further is too ridiculous to contemplate. The only reason I can think of for this woman’s patently stupid statement is that there were no tv/radio/newspapers in West VA in the early 90’s…oh and no telephones or mail either.

I see nothing Bill did that was outrageous. It was the audience obammessiah supporter that was the jackass.
Warner Todd Huston on May 9, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Ed’s right. However, on a larger point, this points to an interesting opportunity if you’re from the pro-Obama camp. It is easy to wave red meat in front of Bill and get him going. He likes to aggressively respond any time he perceives he is challenged as is prone to use exagerations, lies and bullying to make his points.
If you’re a KOS-ling, it would be sooooo easy to get Bill talking and perhaps over react in front of the cameras. The downside for Obama is zilch, just a crazy person in the crowd. The potential upside, priceless.

Sorry, but being critical of McCain does not automatically equate to MDS. I suppose you think we are all supposed to just shut the f**k up and unquestioningly support cranky old bastard because he’s the nominee? Not bloody likely. I fully intend to voice opposition to amnesty, open borders, and all the other liberal crap that cranky old bastard insists makes him a “true conservative” and all the rest of us racist reactionaries.
highhopes on May 9, 2008 at 1:04 PM
heh!
bernzright777 on May 9, 2008 at 1:07 PM
I think the bigger story here is that it is May and Hillary Clinton is not the presumptive nominee nor is she the frontrunner. This time last year, it was conventional wisdom that the “rats” would quickly coronate Clinton and have all Spring to snipe at the GOP from their unified position. That just demostrates the value of conventional wisdom when it comes to politics!
That Clinton rallies are being heckled shows just how far the Clintons have fallen from grace.
highhopes on May 9, 2008 at 1:09 PM
Its that reason alone I think Hillary is less dangerous than Obama.
She couldn’t get it through with Democrat President and Congress. Obama is more politically savvy and seems to bring out the sheep/lemming in all his followers.
DavidM on May 9, 2008 at 1:11 PM
Highhopes,
As long as you vote for him, and don’t discourage others from doing the same, your arguments will make him more likely to be elected, so it’s all good. Makes him look more the centrist he is. Now please don’t equate me with McCain supporters overall. I don’t care for either McCain nor Bush, but the alternatives were so horrid I happily voted for each.
Buford Gooch on May 9, 2008 at 1:12 PM
The lady was like one these lefty self righteous prigs that you can see at various functions. Clinton was absolutely right to chew her out. Hillary Clinton is highly energetic. She worked tirelessly to force a government takeover of health care in which the bureaucrats would choose your doctor, your hospital and your level of care. In fact, the Clinton plan would have subjected people to arrest and imprisonment if they chose a doctor who did not belong to “the network” that the Clintons would choose for every American. Hillary wanted an Orwellian nightmare. But you can accuse her of not trying. She was tireless and fortunately the more people heard of Hillary and the plan, the more people rejected it.
But it was shameful for that priggish woman to interrupt a former president and start to lecture him. If it was me, I would have said alot more than Clinton did to her.
Larraby on May 9, 2008 at 1:13 PM
I don’t see where people get the idea that Obama is politically savvy. Please look at what little record we have of him, and the unforced errors he’s been making. He just happened to be standing in the right place at the right time (more than once).
Buford Gooch on May 9, 2008 at 1:15 PM
Obama supporters are just stupid. If Herself was lazy and never attempted to carry out any policy plans, the republicans would not have taken the House and Senate in 1994, and the right would not have spent the last 2-plus years trying to derail her presidential campaign.
Think_b4_speaking on May 9, 2008 at 1:15 PM

funky chicken on May 9, 2008 at 1:16 PM
I’m thinking … both. You can be an idiot before you go crazy, and it seems that we’re just seeing this one on the other side of the mountain.
As for Hillarycare, she sure as hell did the work and put in a solid effort. Americans were just decidedly opposed to the results, unlike this farking loon.
Jaibones on May 9, 2008 at 1:18 PM
I don’t blame the Clinton’s for being upset at losing to this empty suit. It pales in comparison to how I will feel if Obama is elected.
Y’all can lynch me out back for my next statement. I will wear my fingers and feet to a nub to defeat Obama, but not one ounce of sweat or one dollar to reelect a single congressman or senator. I am so disgusted with the way about 500 of our esteemed legislators have behaved that I want them all turned over. I can not believe that they have squandered the opportunity to be leaders and patriots in such an indefensible manner.
eaglesdontflock on May 9, 2008 at 1:33 PM
The lady is mostly wrong about Hillary’s health care efforts. Hill spent a lot of time formulating a plan. The plan was such a Byzantine mess that congress never seriously considered it. Her horror of a plan pretty much guaranteed that federal health care reform would not happen for many years and the Clintons never brought the issue up again. So, either Hillary was exceptionally incompetent or she reached what had alway been her true goal.

Between this angry video and the beet-red face Bill had on Tuesday while standing behind Hillary on the stage, it’s hard to believe some people still think the Clintons could be thisclose to getting out of the race. If anything, they’re planning to turn this into a blood feud and will take out everybody who gets in their way.

Bulletins at Obama’s Church Carry Own Controversy
In a column in the April 15, 2007 bulletin, the Rev. Reginald Williams, the associate pastor for social justice at Trinity United, said he was not surprised by the racially charged remarks that talk-radio host Don Imus made about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team because “the major networks are run by right-winged conservatives who still see black people as subhuman and portray black people as such.”

It was perfectly OK with him in the ‘92 race when he stacked the questioners against then President Bush 41. The Pony Tail guy comes to mind.
Now that Obama supporters are using the same tactic he’s upset.
roux on May 9, 2008 at 4:09 PM
Yes, indeed, please do GO BILL. Far, far away, fade ever so gently into the sunset. I have seen worse from him. He reminds me of Captain Queeg from the Caine Mutiny. Yes, indeedy, Hillary did work really hard on that mammoth POS she came up with for healthcare. Let’s give her kudos for working hard on that huge elephant of a monstrosity. But don’t mention all the money that cost and how she never consulted any outsiders who might have valuable insight. Or her absolute inexperience to even tackle such a project. Or the inept people she chose to assist her. She worked hard alright. Bill has a persecution complex and it comes out each and every time someone challenges him. The finger starts to wag, the brow starts to furrow, and his nose gets bigger and redder. Seriously. Happens every time.

MirCat on May 9, 2008 at 5:00 PM
This is a pretty good example of what is wrong with journalists.
The woman is a loon. Whether you agree or disagree with Hillary Clinton on health care, she did the work…in fact it provided Rush Limbaugh with about a year and a half of material. So, to deny that it occurred demonstrates a delusional frame of mind.
The journalist, if he was half informed on the subject, ought to have called her on it. To have simply allowed the lady to spout off her delusions, uncommented upon, would leave younger listeners with the idea that the issue was debatable..which it is not.
This is how through laziness, sloth and sheer lack of curiosity the journalists of today are misinforming their viewers/listeners and, thus, hurting democracy.
Blaise on May 9, 2008 at 6:56 PM
The lady interviewed at the end reminds me of another Obamamaniac my friend and I encountered in Concord New Hampshire on primary election day. It was late in the afternoon, so all politicking activity had pretty much come to an end.
She is not the same person we came across, but the similarities between the two are absolutely striking to me. Pretty, perhaps late 40s or early 50s, she had almost the exact same smile and expressions that this woman has. And she also had that same look of confidence and certainty on her face, obviously arising out of her personal sense of the situation, i.e., her feelings as opposed to the facts.
We were in the Barley House late in the afternoon (near the front door) and were talking with a couple of locals about the election, when Ron Paul walked in the door with a few of his hangers-on. He looked around and walked over to talk to us, and we politely chatted with him for a few minutes. None of us were supporters of his, so we challenging him on his views — especially when he began the stuff about the gold standard — but as I say, it was polite.
In the midst of the conversation, this lady walked over and interrupted in order to talk to Ron Paul. I think she had the impression that someone was taking a video of the whole thing. And she was featuring a prominent Obama sticker or two. Clearly, she thought she was on stage! She began by effusively thanking Ron for his participation in, and contribution to, the political process this year. She went on and on, but it was quite clear she was not really aware of his views, or in anything he had to say — it was theater to her, and she was , for that moment, in her starring role. The fact was that someone did have a light on, but there was no video being taken. I’m sure she’s still looking around for the video!

It is so good to see Bubba Billy still has a hard time learning from his past mistakes. Nothing like throwing yet another full blown grande mal hissy fit in front of the same people you are trying to rally behind your wife for votes. Now I AM wondering if he is either intentionally trying to kill any further chances of her getting the nomination, or he has just plain gone off the proverbial deep end.
pilamaye on May 9, 2008 at 7:10 PM
My family is from Fayetteville, WV and none of us turned out that way. In fact I don’t know anyone in WV who would act that way. She is definitely a loon!
atxcowgirl on May 9, 2008 at 10:02 PM
The operative words here are: “Hillary did indeed work on health care (in dangerous ways)”…and why didn’t the ‘heckler’ bring up the fact that Hillarycare failed miserably? …Because Barry Whosane Obamarama wants to create and sustain the socialist ‘healthcare’ nightmare, (that’s alive and well in say, S. Cal for the poor population).
I would have loved to have been the heckler and I wouldn’t have picked healthcare. I’m hoping that Billy bursts into flames during one of these Clintoon love-fests. Marshmellows and popcorn folks, this is gonna be good.
