Video: Morons and their jeans

What the Internet was made for, a fact borne out by the traffic it’s getting — more than a million views in just 72 hours. How’d it catch fire so quickly? YouTube’s commenters suspect a viral marketing campaign by a jeans company to be named later. It does have a pleasant “United Colors of Benetton” vibe to it, and the guys with the mohawk and the ‘fro positively scream “quirky.” The user account is suspicious, too. Exit question: A few cheeky frat boys out for a lark on a sunny afternoon, or is the sinister corporate hand of Levi’s behind this?

Yeah, it’s got that “shot with pro cameras to look like amateur cameras” look.

Hannibal Smith on May 8, 2008 at 8:19 PM

Commercial.
At the stop sign “stunt” they’re entirely too “hip”.

SouthernDem on May 8, 2008 at 8:19 PM

The stop sign stunt also reveals that this was shot in West L.A. (judging by Google Maps), so it’s likely that either these guys want to break into the industry or they already have.

calbear on May 8, 2008 at 8:23 PM

Commercial crap. Mixed races/types. Missed the Asian though.

JiangxiDad on May 8, 2008 at 8:24 PM

That is so corporate

The white with the fake afro…please

Lance Murdock on May 8, 2008 at 8:25 PM

Pink boxers with black shorts underneath…

…I don’t get it.

Mo2Do on May 8, 2008 at 8:26 PM

Sadly, my own jeans are too tight.

SouthernGent on May 8, 2008 at 8:30 PM

Eeewww

I just imagined Rosie O’Donnell wearing a very tight jeans, her fart got stuck in there and had no way to go but from her mouth…

Indy Conservative on May 8, 2008 at 8:36 PM

You mean there’s a difference?

Lee on May 8, 2008 at 8:38 PM

Dude.

No way am I spending an afternoon helping my friends in their underwear find new ways to put on pants.

Indy Conservative on May 8, 2008 at 8:36 PM

Zetterson on May 8, 2008 at 8:37 PM

I don’t know why I thought about Rosie O’Donnell. Somehow she reminds me of a sow (female pig) I saw yesterday on the food channel, laying down on her belly in the oven.

Indy Conservative on May 8, 2008 at 8:45 PM

I wonder how many future stars of “Jack@ss” will become tenors trying to duplicate these stunts.

I think there’ll be a whole new category for Tom Bergeron to introduce on Sunday evenings now, too.

Captain Scarlet on May 8, 2008 at 8:50 PM

I want to see the out-take reel.

29Victor on May 8, 2008 at 8:55 PM

Well, I have noticed the teens at the HS where I work are wearing Levis in recent months, for whatever that’s worth. They’re baggy and rolled up at the hem, but they’re Levis.

Bob's Kid on May 8, 2008 at 8:57 PM

I want to see the out-take reel.

29Victor on May 8, 2008 at 8:55 PM

My thoughts exactly. I bet there were some pretty funny (and painful) bad jumps!

Eclectic on May 8, 2008 at 8:59 PM

Oh come on, no guts no glory!

How about a 1000 ft. bungy jump into the jeans!

NO!

Then lets up the ante, how about free-falling into them!

And are these jeans marketed for the male prostitute,
or are they designed to change your gender, without surgery!
jus sayin!

canopfor on May 8, 2008 at 8:59 PM

Is this the only proper way to enter these jeans,
there bound to be a lot of litigation with this company!

Some poor guy is going to buy these jeans, and after he
jumps into them, his wife or girlfriend is going to notice
that they might look good on him,but women will find out
that these jeans are DE-MANNING their men!

This company MUST be marketing these jeans for Liberals!

Liberal men are already DE-MANNED by the caring Femenazis
so whats the point, this is a GRAND LEFT WING CONSPIRACY
KABAL to go after the Republican men,to even the field and
allow Hillary to take over the world, marketing ploy,ya right!

canopfor on May 8, 2008 at 9:11 PM

Commercial crap. Mixed races/types. Missed the Asian though.

JiangxiDad on May 8, 2008 at 8:24 PM

It’s sad that it has come to this, but I was thinking the exact same thing.

Vigilante on May 8, 2008 at 9:17 PM

It’ll provoke some ijjits to break some leg(s) and heads, and that’s gotta be a good thing, right?

Too diverse to be real. You’ll never see a gang like that in any ‘Hood ‘cept H’wood, or an Obama rally– which means it might be real.

I rate it a 5 on the lame scale.

SJBill on May 8, 2008 at 9:24 PM

I don’t know. The logo wasn’t featured very prominently that I could see.

mikeyboss on May 8, 2008 at 9:31 PM

Dumb.

Me too. Plus, it’s just too gay. What kind of normal person makes a stunt into putting on their clothes?

Sydney Carton on May 8, 2008 at 9:35 PM

Hey, fellas, let’s help each other get dwessed!

jgapinoy on May 8, 2008 at 9:37 PM

Ya’ll need to lighten up.

“Me too. Plus, it’s just too gay. What kind of normal person makes a stunt into putting on their clothes?”

Douchebag .. obviously, normal people DON’T MAKES STUNTS OF PUTTING ON THEIR CLOTHES. Cluebat in effect.

Chest_Rockwell on May 8, 2008 at 9:48 PM

That should have a “do not try this at home” warning.

Levi commercials sold a lot of jeans. I remember back in the eighties seeing THE Levi commercial that caused the rebirth of Levi. The minute I saw the commercial I knew what to get my son for the school year. Levis are still my choice because they’re the only ones who still use the good denim.

I also made him a pair of pink and black shorts for his birthday, ripped off a Jams tag from some bag of hand-me-downs and sewed it onto the waistband. I told him the truth when the 10-year rule was up.

Connie on May 8, 2008 at 9:54 PM

How’d it catch fire so quickly?

Bu golly that’s it . . .They’re in training to be . . . .
“Fireman”

Texyank on May 8, 2008 at 10:13 PM

Thanks for throwing this stuff into the mix. I love seeing guys do goofy things. There’s some good fun from the soldiers I want to see more of again.

nemo239 on May 8, 2008 at 10:22 PM

No cussing, it’s commercial.

Afterthought: Why on earth would a commenter on Hot Air make a LINK to “cluebat”?

RushBaby on May 8, 2008 at 10:38 PM

not a funny as “youths” torching cars in parisian banileus

devadevadasa on May 8, 2008 at 11:04 PM

Someone is taking criticism of the obvious viral campaign just a little bit too personally.

Vigilante on May 8, 2008 at 9:17 PM

Sad indeed.

The too diverse to be real crap is either a lie or a wish. If this is West LA or anywhere on the westside of LA, then one would see many groups of guys just like this….probably acting as goofy. No big deal here about people not being totally insular. Whites and blacks actually do coexist and get along in some places.

That group of guys looks like any one of my groups of friends, a lot of who are conservative or Republican.

As for the rest of you, you sound like a bunch of crotchety old windbags. You talk about Obama being a snob…what about this bunch of larks in here? Some of you are too cool to laugh because you’re afraid you might accidentally enjoy a liberal.

Racial bigotry is desirable to the partisan flu bug you guys incubate in your black souls. The party needs to quarantine your type and let you die in peace…maybe give you 3/5 a vote or something.

A bunch of guys do something odd, somewhat amusing and get publicity so you guys whine about it? If it was a capitalist ad gimmick, it obviously worked and isn’t Capitalism a good thing…among the best things every?

Gay. Is that a slur for adults or fifth graders?

Aside from the stupidity and bigotry which is easily attributable to those who make statements like this, I just don’t get what you mean.

What is gay about it? And what is gayer? A youtube video stunt that entertains millions or a guy who watches the whole thing and can’t think of anything except homosexuality?

You guys don’t sound conservative, you sound repressed … and fat.

The Race Card on May 8, 2008 at 11:37 PM

Weird. All that and I just saw some guys jumping into pants.

Connie on May 8, 2008 at 11:58 PM

The Race Card

Living up to your username, you’re on the lookout for racism wherever it appears, even if it’s imaginary. Jiangxidad was obviously noting the perfect mixture of races that one might find in an ad. He wasn’t complaining about mixture of races. But I’m wasting my time trying to help you. You want to rant & rage.

Yes, I’m racist, too. My Filipina wife is just to help me hide my racism. Right?

jgapinoy on May 9, 2008 at 12:29 AM

That was “fly.”

Mojave Mark on May 9, 2008 at 12:44 AM

They are spiderman fans. Peter Parker could jump into his pants two legs at a time. Can’t remember if he did it in one of the movies, but in the comic books he did.

Other than that, some of those guys were quite good in their athletic abilities. I can always admire a well executed stunts.

PrettyD_Vicious on May 9, 2008 at 1:33 AM

Betcha their legs are greased.

Or are the jeans?

Shy Guy on May 9, 2008 at 2:13 AM

Yeah, it’s got that “shot with pro cameras to look like amateur cameras” look.

Hannibal Smith on May 8, 2008 at 8:19 PM

This, and the shots are far too carefully set up. The cameral moves are not at all what you’d expect from an amateur intending to film the “action.”

Gilda on May 9, 2008 at 2:24 AM

Just think where they could go if the put that energy into learning a job skill!

Golfer_75093 on May 9, 2008 at 8:34 AM

I guess this retires the old adage
“He puts his pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else.”

txsurveyor on May 9, 2008 at 8:44 AM

Levis are still my choice because they’re the only ones who still use the good denim.

Connie on May 8, 2008 at 9:54 PM

Carhartt jeans beat the ever loving snot out of Levis…just saying.

OldEnglish on May 9, 2008 at 10:10 AM

I wonder why they didn’t get any fat guys to do this?

scottjenn on May 9, 2008 at 10:22 AM

two words, shin splints.

srhoades on May 9, 2008 at 10:42 AM

It did have a ‘Benetton meets “people punched while eating”‘ vibe to it, but it was amusing enough.

There were some pretty darned good acrobatics involved.

Harmless goofy fun.

LimeyGeek on May 9, 2008 at 10:49 AM

Can I have my time back, please?

eforhan on May 9, 2008 at 11:39 AM

Can’t be real. Guys don’t act like that. Not once in the entire video did they hit each other. They were all way too supportive of each other. No trash talking or joking going on. I have boys. Those aren’t real boys.

sheesh on May 9, 2008 at 12:29 PM

I bet the bloopers reel is painful.

moxie_neanderthal on May 9, 2008 at 1:15 PM

sheesh on May 9, 2008 at 12:29 PM

They’re probably Maury Ballstein’s latest recruits. He trained them to jump into jeans rather than having gasoline pump fights.

LimeyGeek on May 9, 2008 at 1:16 PM

….I liked it.

Capitana on May 9, 2008 at 1:54 PM

jgapinoy on May 9, 2008 at 12:29 AM

I appreciate what you’re trying to do here, but I’m just not able to take you seriously. This talk about a “perfect mixture of races” is sickening.

I make no apologies for having a truly diverse group of lifelong friends. I feel sad that some people seem compelled to make the worst of things.

Also, offering up one’s associates, acquaintances or even loved ones does not preclude one from being biased against said persons’ identifying group. Loving one doesn’t mean you can’t hate the rest.

Follow me. I am prejudiced against bigots. But guess what, some of my best friends are….drum roll…bigots. Real life has texture. Got it?

***
As far as your wife being Filipina, I can only say this. There are two groups in America whose cultures genuinely excite me — filipinos and Jews. A filipino family gave me a home for a year and a half. I was welcomed into their family which was not uncrowded, four boys/four girls, with open arms and warmth. There was always lots of rice and lots of love.

Personally, I think we should make a bigger deal about cultural groups that do assimilate successfully.

I’m not fat! How dare you!?

OldEnglish on May 9, 2008 at 10:10 AM

Actually, you’re right. Fat people are totally and utterly disregarded in our society. I was being a d*ck by using weight as a denigrating characteristic. You just sound repressed…not fat. Sorry fat folks.

The Race Card on May 9, 2008 at 1:55 PM

Let me thoroughly preclude any chicanery by those who might suggest that my mention of rice is inappropriate. I mentioned it because it is my reality. Rice is good. It’s been a part of my daily life since living with the family of whom I previosly spoke.

I repeat, rice is good. Help me horde it.

Didn’t people notice that the jeans are overly large? Watch the dweebs button their pants and you will notice the free play of material that would soon have their pants about their ankles. … which might be the subliminal message here,

thegreatbeast on May 9, 2008 at 2:51 PM

Race Card,

Please do not intimate I’m racist — nothing could be further from the truth. I was an invited guest at a change of command ceremony for a African-American admiral yesterday. I did observe many African-Americans, and even drove one to the event with family.

Did I mention that not one guest — no admirals, no officers and no enlisted did the jump into their jeans thing during the entire event?

Maybe you should change the handle to “Race B8″, OK? Your apparent “coolness” duzznt cut it, Dude. Dig?

Late. Out.
