Hillary: White people dig me

Hitchens called it. Yesterday on Hewitt’s show:

What I’m thinking is that in a little while, people will be marveling over who well she’s done in West Virginia and Kentucky. And by that time, the vote will have become thoroughly racialized, if you don’t mind that rather disgusting expression. And people will be speaking about Barack Obama as having won the black vote, as if there was such a thing as if people vote with their epidermis, which they’re already saying about North Carolina. And she will be implicitly, or sometimes explicitly, and with the help of her husband, well, that’s not all there is to it. Look at how many white people want to vote for me. So what’s all this about a post-racial election? And the Democrats will be made to feel nervous on this point, and I think they’ll take it all the way to Denver.

And now Her Majesty today:

“I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on,” she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article “that found how Sen. Obama’s support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me.”…

Larry Sabato, head of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, said Clinton’s comment was a “poorly worded” variation on the way analysts have been “slicing and dicing the vote in racial terms.”

However, he said her primary support doesn’t prove she’s more electable. Either Democrat will get “the vast majority” of the other’s primary election votes in a general election, he said.

Sabato’s right, and if you look at the crosstabs from Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Ohio broken down by race and party ID, you’ll find that he does almost as well as her among white independents: Her margins in the three states, respectively, are four, four, and eight points. He also beat her straight up among white men on Super Tuesday in, of all places, Georgia. Having said that, are we to pretend that some people aren’t, in fact, voting “with their epidermis,” as Hitch puts it? The whole punchline to this nomination process is that they’re running on essentially identical platforms — and yet, she crushed him among white Democrats in the aforementioned three states, with upwards of 20% of all voters in Texas and Ohio admitting that race was an “important factor” in their vote (the majority in each case broke for her). It’s not just policy preferences that are giving Obama 90% of the black vote either. So what’s so shocking about what she said? That it’s horribly inaccurate, or that it’s horribly candid in acknowledging that race might affect electability even among the virtuous, transcendent left — a point the superdelegates are already keenly aware of thanks to the endless media speculation about what black voters will do if they hand her the nomination?

Ah well. As the ship goes down, we’re bound to hear a few last desperate screams like this. And make no mistake, down it’s a-goin’: “Despite the public bluster in a conference call with reporters Wednesday, some Clinton advisers were resigned to their candidate’s likely loss. They have turned in favor of her bowing out for party unity, according to several who asked not to be named. Only a few are said to be urging her to fight on, even to the Aug. 25-28 convention in Denver. Among these voices, the loudest belongs to her husband, former President Clinton, according to one longtime Democratic Party insider and Clinton supporter.” Exit question: Which group is most responsible for Hillary’s collapse? Men? Blacks? Or her own moronic campaign staff? Read number two on this list and cherish the allegations about Mark Penn’s idiocy forever.

Update: Hmmm.

The nuclear option, reparations. Conyers is busily scrubbing his site. I happened to have seen Conyers in a walk down the hall interview with a FNC reporter and he said Obama had promised him it would be high on his list of first things to do.

Is getting 95% of the black vote racist? What if a white candidate got 95% of the white vote, is that racist? What would the media say in both cases?

If we see no problem with blacks “voting with their epidermis” then we shouldn’t see a problem with whites doing the same.

But we do, so she isn’t allowed to bring that up.

Conyers touts own agenda while promoting Obama

By Don Worthington
Staff writer
The danger a presidential candidate faces when he has a congressman stump for him is that the congressman sometimes has his own agenda.

That was evident in Fayetteville on Monday, when Rep. John Conyers was at Fayetteville State University promoting Sen. Barack Obama’s candidacy.

Conyers, a Michigan Democrat, also discussed one of his legislative passions, a controversial bill to create a commission to study reparations programs for the descendants of slaves. It is not a bill that Obama endorses.

The bill calls upon the federal government to acknowledge the “fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery” in America between 1619 and 1865 and make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies for this treatment.

The bill does not specifically call for reparations, which some say could cost the federal government trillions. The bill requests $8 million to study the issue.

among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again

This would be a career-ending line for any GOP’er. Is she not yet being tarred for equating “hard-working” with “white”?

He also beat her straight up among white men on Super Tuesday in, of all places, Georgia.

I object to this statement. What is wrong with white men in Georgia?

They have turned in favor of her bowing out for party unity, according to several who asked not to be named.

Boy, I thought she was ruthless, but blatant racial attacks on your own party opponent made by the candidate…..surrogate Begala wasn’t enough?

So much for party unity or VP slot they shamelessly put Stephanopolis up to mention…..

What a shallow, racist, bigoted party…..and relative silence on it except for Drudge and blogs. ……And if a Republican had said this……..nuclear.

Hillary wouldn’t turn out nearly as many Dem voters as Obama would. Black people won’t vote for Hillary if she gets the nomination over Obama (which won’t happen anyway.)

All the libs would step in line for Obama.

…and Conyers is still an idiot

The Race Card on May 8, 2008 at 2:13 PM

This is what she is saying, minus the PC:
Obama cannot win, even with 95% of the black vote.
People will be turned off by the constant black rhetoric of “he’s one of us, that’s good enough”.
There are not enough whites with “black guilt” to help.
For every black there will 2 whites voting against.
This will be a black vs. white referendum, and the blacks (liberal which is 95%) do not have enough power.
Hispanics will not vote “black”.
The states needed to be swayed will not vote for someone just because they are a certain color.
Being black does not give you any more privileges then any other race.
Affirmative action now officially sucks.
Obama can only run on the fact that he is black, that is all he has.
Hillary’s negatives are not as crippling as Obama’s shallowness.
The DNC stage does not have enough room for; Obama, Wright, Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakahn, everyone who ever “walked” with MLK, and all the other black media whores.
And last, Hillary will not give up her lifelong dream so easy (and that is probably the only thing I understand about her).
*
and as a personal note: It is sad that some of the great captains of industry, heroes, have been black, and the liberals and black leaders have gone out of their way to destroy or bury some of these great men and women. And this is what they end up with, a shallow man of little respect, honor, intelligence, or accomplishments, whose major alliances (and relationships) are ultra liberal American haters.

right2bright on May 8, 2008 at 2:23 PM

African-Americans have only themselves to blame for the love affair that they had with the Clintons for so many years. The Clintons bragged about all their African-American appointments but it was always to irrelevant positions like HUD or HHS. It was never to real positions of power like State or NSC. When Bush appointed Powell and Rice, African-Americans would not give him any credit. They did not see that as far as the Clintons were concerned issues like public housing and out of wedlock babies were “Black issues”. Unlike President Bush, the Clintons never viewed Black folks as capable of running the State Department or the NSC. And when Hillary Clinton made Togo West tag along her and stand there and lie for her about Bosnia, African-Americans did not even see that the Clintons were humiliating a decent African-American man and using him as if he was nothing but a butler for the Clintons. The Clinton played a con game on African-Americans and sadly most African-Americans fell for it hook, line and sinker.

We’re assuming that Bill is loving this, that he wants to be the only President Clinton in the history books. He daren’t push her to give up, unless he wants to face a marital typhoon
such as beat up Myanmar. So he’s letting her continue a doomed race, and loving every moment of her downfall. He may even be podcasting Rush Limbaugh so that Hillary can hear his “Operation Chaos” efforts to keep her in the race.
You know what would be a classy farewell? For Hillary to call in to Rush’s show and announce her withdrawal from the race.
Rush has worked harder for her than Bill.

Doug on May 8, 2008 at 2:53 PM

Hitchens called what? The man is an imbecile if he seriously thinks black Democrats don’t “vote with their epidermis”.

Hitchens said just that. The Democratic election will increasingly splinter along racial lines and that Hillary will be drawing upon the divide as part of her campain rhetoric. The fact of the matter is, Obama vs McCain results in the hollowing out of the Democratic base who will not vote for Obama for a whole host of reasons, Wright and Ayers being two.

I live in the midwest and have spoken with a number of labor Democrats who I think are pretty representative of the mainstream of their party. Frequently they have been factory workers or general labor voters. While they may differ from Republicans on some policy issues and the general role of the government, they tend to hold similar cultural values.

In each instance my acquantences are moderately patriotic, and have either served in the military, have family who served or know someone who has served. In each instance they have independently pointed to Obama’s relationship with Wright as a major sticking point. One mentioned Obama’s relationship with Ayers. A few pointed to his lack of experience. Antecdotal? Absolutely. But listening to the tone and tenor of their comments makes me believe that their views are hardly isolated and that Obama has an insurmountable task if he wishes to carry large segments of fly-over country and the lion’s share of the labor Democratic vote.

moxie_neanderthal on May 8, 2008 at 2:56 PM

working, hard-working Americans, white Americans,

She better pray there’s no clear audio of that statement. That’s cringeworthy.

DrSteve on May 8, 2008 at 3:19 PM

There are real policy differences between Obama and Hillary domestically.

Domestically, Hillary is the classic Clintonian middle-working class “pander” that Tsongas in 1991 derided. Well, “pander bear” works. Because voters want “stuff” for them.

The Gas Tax holiday immediately puts money back in pockets, so that’s a huge difference. Affirmative Action, reparations, release of Black Criminals, soft on crime generally, guns (Hillary has “forgotten” Gun Control, it’s a huge issue for Obama’s Black supporters), and more are direct issues for the white middle/working class Hillary supporters.

These are real, direct, immediate policy differences. Hillary doesn’t talk about them directly, but believe me they exist. Crime in particular is a huge issue. Homeowners, the elderly, middle aged people, working/middle class people are very sensitive to crime. While Blacks out of ethnic solidarity hate any measures to reduce Crime (look at NYC, how White voters flocked to Rudy out of desperation, and Blacks consistently voted against him and any crime control measures).

If you believe City Journal’s Heather Mac Donald’s article, nationally Blacks commit about 50% of violent crime despite being only 11% of the population. Lowering Violent Crime means imprisoning large amounts of Blacks.

There is no way to do this without politically, engendering a reaction among Blacks. See Al Sharpton, Wright, Obama etc. Creating an impasse: White Voters want lower Crime and Black Voters refuse the measures to lower it.

Crime is one “hidden” policy difference that Hillary is addressing. Rest assured that if McCain does not cover it, the 527s will, in the general election.

However, he said her primary support doesn’t prove she’s more electable. Either Democrat will get “the vast majority” of the other’s primary election votes in a general election, he said.

And, it will still not be enough to win. Therein lies the dilemma of the superdelegates.

Dancing around the race theme is the most interesting this year. That Obama will do more to damage race relations, than anyone, is the most interesting. That the liberals do this to themselves, out of identity politics, is the greated spectacle of them all. Karl Rove summed it up to perfection in the WSJ article.

Lots of head-scratching at the beginning of Nov. At MSNBC, a different kind of head…

The Democratic Party has become the South African formula. Obama the Arab is the answer for all of those folks that the Dems have been saying are underprivileged due to their skin. Why compete in the workplace and miss the soaps? Vote Dem, stay home, collect a check and remain second class.

Am I the only one seeing parallels between Obama and Scott Thomas Beauchamp?

* both are liberal jerks
* both are on a battlefield they are not familiar with, and both lied their pathway to it
* once there they served contradictory tales and exaggerated like there’s no tomorrow
* once busted both either blamed sinister forces that allegedly try to silence them, or just refused to answer questions
* both came clear about minor issues when busted, and tried to gain moral high ground by redemption, which was fake in both instances
* in both cases there was a woman pulling the strings and urging them to soldier on because they were oh-so proud of them for speaking truth to power

Oh, and Beauchamp is no real killer just like Obama is no real African-American who ever had to face a single uphill battle.

I am a typical white person and do not feel Obombem is not qualified for the position he seeks because he lacks experience. His political rhetoric show he feels entitled to the position.

Obobmem needs to have a life changing experience before he can say he speaks for the common person.

Hitlery is on the other side of the spectrum she is experienced in bilking the public out of their money and needs to understand what it is like to actually have to pay a mortgage, go to the store and draw a cup of coffee from a simple machine.
