Matthews on Operation Chaos: I hope you’re proud of yourselves

Via the ‘Busters, the Obama shill di tutti shills turns peevish at the thought of conservatives maximizing their political advantage through — horrors — voting. As Geraghty notes, the left is invested this morning for obvious reasons in the proposition that OC played a major role yesterday. Take it from Obama’s campaign manager: If it weren’t for that dastardly Rush Limbaugh, they would have won Indiana outright. Never mind that the margin made defeat practically as good as a victory.
Exit question via HuffPo: Why, Rush’s OC gambit isn’t much different from incitement to genocide, is it? Before you answer, mull this golden quote: “Michigan Democrats and independents who want to see the Republican battle royale continue should just take a few minutes on Tuesday, January 15th to cast a ballot for Mitt Romney in the Republican primary… If we can help push Mitt over the line, not only do we help keep their field fragmented, but we also pollute Romney’s victory. How ‘legitimate’ will the Mittster’s victory look if liberals provide the margin of victory? Think of the hilarity that will ensue. We’ll simply be adding fuel to their civil war, never a bad thing from our vantage point.”

Yes, it is so much nobler to vote for someone based solely on their race or in Matthews case, if they give him a stiffy.

Somehow, I don’t think that all the Americans who died defending our freedoms would think that voting in the Democratic primaries is what they were protecting…
Tool.
John_Locke on May 7, 2008 at 12:47 PM
It’s my vote and I will use it any way I want to…got that dude???!!!

Mathews is an idiot. Rush did this because the Dems and the MSM picked our candidate for us.
He’s just enjoying the fruits of the Democrat nomination process that is only a bunch of traditions. No rules really apply.
roux on May 7, 2008 at 12:49 PM
Matthews . . . what we don’t need is some draft dodging little political puke like you invoking the names of those that have died for their country.

Heh! Excellent point!
Dork B. on May 7, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Well, as I am sure you know, in every election many dead Americans do in fact vote for Democrat candidates. I’m sure some of these metabolically-challenged Americans did in fact serve overseas.

I wonder how Matthews felt about the vote-swapping going on between Nader and Gore supporters in 2000.

- Atticus, first comment at the HuffPo piece. Nice going, Atticus! I thought I would immortalize it here, since it probably won’t last long over there!
That Radio Rwanda comparison is such a reach, it’s comical. Leftist can dish it out, but they sure can’t take it.
RushBaby on May 7, 2008 at 12:55 PM
I never did like “operation chaos”, it seems just a way for Rush to motivate his listeners into listening to him more. It is all about Rush.
bnelson44 on May 7, 2008 at 12:56 PM
If the OC folks are the only ones that will play, ahem, hardball, then more power to them. McCain sure won’t.
How long before McCain publicly denounces/apologizes for OC? Ten bucks says within the next two weeks, or at least as long as it no longer helps him.

I’m pretty sure no one fought and died for the Democratic Party’s nomination process-certainly for the national right to vote, but not for a party’s internal decision-making.

Close the primaries.
Connie on May 7, 2008 at 12:59 PM
Kiss my ass, Matthews, you whiny little crybaby. The vote that people fought and died for is supposed to be for people to voice their opinions on how the country should be run, and that is what people are doing. They are also supposed to be able to refuse to vote without recriminations.
Useless f’ing idiot.
MadisonConservative on May 7, 2008 at 1:00 PM
I haven’t paid any attention to Matthews in years, and I have no interest in checking out his remarks in detail, but he happens to be right about this one.
Operation Chaos was amusing, if likely trivial in effect, but it’s a fundamentally dishonest and cynical way to use your “vote”: In a democratic system and culture, the citizen’s vote is a sacred vow (that’s the etymology of the term). It’s not just bad sportsmanship, it’s a failure of civic responsibility, to “trade” your vote for any purpose, even political tactics. The excuse that in some sense “they did it first” is obviously childish and irresponsible, and the ends-justifies-the-means argument that the system can and should be gamed is a step toward fascism.
Voting for the lesser of two evils is something entirely different. Such a vote still represents the voter’s honest preferences. It doesn’t represent a merely tactical distortion and de-legitimation of the political process.
As I suggested, I’m not persuaded that OC meant very much. It’s biggest effect was probably to make many on the left despise Limbaugh and his followers a little bit more, including the rest of us on the right by implication. It will make them feel even more justified the next time they choose to lie for their cause, not that they really seem to need much of the same.
CK MacLeod on May 7, 2008 at 1:01 PM
BTW, I think we should give the Democrats some credit for this particular primary.
I learned nothing new form the Republican primary (well besides the fact Ron Raul is nuttier then I thought).
But I learned alot about Barack Hussein Obama.
I thought early on that he was a pretty above board guy, even if a far leftwinger.
We got to see him proclaim that he would never renounce his spirtual mentor, no matter how what he said…up until Rev Wright challenged him and became a serious threat to his political aspirations. And then he too joined grandma under the bus.
Obama claims to not be just another cynical, self-serving, politican – and apparently that is true. He is perhaps the MOST cynical and self-serving politican in recent memory, and yes I remember Bill Clinton.

aaaaaaw, tingle leg man crush Matthews got his feelings hurt that people may have voted for Clinton. I hope you are proud of yourself Matthews for impugning the motives of people who voted for Clinton instead of Obama. We all don’t get a tingling sensation up our legs when Obama preaches his platitudes and panders. He says he’ll get out of Iraq, but everybody knows that we’ll be in Iraq even if he serves for 8 terms no matter what he says that might be sending tingles up your leg. Go back to sleep Matthews, maybe when you Rip Van Winkle and then wake up you’ll be relevant in 80 years. . . but I doubt it.

Where is it written that a person’s vote must be offensive rather than defensive?
In this case, people decided to vote for the candidate of their choice in an effort to defend their country.
Some people vote because a candidate is from their city or shares their religion or sex or skin color. How is that not a “waste” of a vote?
EJDolbow on May 7, 2008 at 1:08 PM
Maybe I’m crazy, but I only vote for the candidate that most closely reflects my political views. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else and wouldn’t be able to look myself in the mirror if I didn’t.
Just my 2 cents
PaulD on May 7, 2008 at 1:08 PM
Me too. I thought that perhaps beyond the blind fawning of the Hollywood types, maybe this guy could be a decent leader. But the more he talks, the more stuff comes out, the more I realize how utterly unprepared he is to be President. He has no policies, his judgement and character is questionable to say the least, and he’s just not what everyone thinks he is.
I’ve never been a blind follower of anyone and the fawning this guy is getting for accomplishing absolutely nothing is just annoying.
mjk on May 7, 2008 at 1:08 PM
Rush points out on his show today how hugely Un-Democratic the Democratic Primary is. What with them throwing out Florida, Michigan, and the Super Delegate idiocy.
The Democrats continue to show, they are like little kids, if they don’t like the rules, they change them so they can get the outcome they want.

Wrong Chrissy… our soldiers are dying so that the homeland can be invaded by another country, without any resistance from us, and to top it off, we reward the invaders by giving them FREEBIES. Lots of freebies, like, healthcare, education, college, food…
Silly. Ask a soldier – that’s why they put their life on the line.
stenwin77 on May 7, 2008 at 1:13 PM
If he keeps being bitter like this, he might start trying to cling to religion and guns, thus earning the scorn of his beloved Messiah.

Almost too funny; it’s like the fatal joke of Python fame.

I’ve wondered if a long-term goal of U.S. Op. Chaos, while getting ‘revenge’ for the Dem crossovers that gave us McCain, is to point out how insane the process is nowdays, and maybe force a serious change before the next round?

First of all, Limbaugh’s position was totally and laughably misrepresented. To employ the imagery of racist DEMOCRATS (Bull Connor et al)to make your point adds a note of irony to your schtik. Either Matthews is uninformed, is a dolt or is intentionally misrepresenting the facts. I suggest it is a combination of all of the above.
Note to Chris Matthews:
Real journalists, like Ernie Pyle, gave their lives in the service of journalism and reporting the truth. For you to put yourself in the service of a politician is a disgrace.

Teddy on May 7, 2008 at 1:58 PM
Democrats on their own disenfranchised Florida and Michigan voters. The Dems set up a system where it is still possible for the loser of popular votes gets the nomination by superdelegate support……..
A rabid propogandist for the Democrats like Matthews should be very careful in how much he accuses the right of influencing the “rat” primaries. Seems to me that this is a mess of their own making and had they adopted a sane primary system there would be no doubt as to who the nominee is at this point. As it is, Obama is likely to get the nomination but it isn’t going to come until after very bitter discussions about what to do with two very electoral vote rich states that, as of now, have had no say in the process.
highhopes on May 7, 2008 at 1:58 PM
this all a bunch of hubbub by the usual suspects to paint the right as evil, they are hipocrits as they advocated doing the same and so did Obama in Michigan.
besides, noone can prove OC had any effect, the crossover votes mostly split between Hillary and Obama
I hope the next republican on hardball rubs these facts in Mathews face

I wouldn’t take the HuffPo piece very seriously, given that the author used this phrase –
The right-wing pundit’s ‘orders’ to his Republican listeners have been clear: vote in the Democratic primaries as a coordinated tactic for sewing division in the opposition party. The goal of such ‘chaos,’ Limbaugh has stated explicitly, is to foment hatred between different parts of the Democratic Party leading, ultimately, to street riots during the Denver convention.
I’m not sure how “sewing division” would lead to street riots unless it was a quilting convention.

Primary elections are not the ones people have died to protect.
A primary is an internal party function. Parties are private social clubs dedicated to electing a slate of club members to office … they have no existence in the Constitution.
If you don’t like having outsiders effect internal party politics, then stop allowing them access to your delegate selection process. Take your convention private, like the minor parties do, and be done with it.
Retard.
