Open thread: Indiana and North Carolina; Update: Obama wins NC; Update: Hillary wins Indiana

The early exit polls are in: It’s the economy, stupid, not health care or Iraq. Detailed demographic data should start trickling in around 6 p.m. Trust it if you dare.

I still think she needs a blowout in Indiana to offset one in North Carolina but the Nation seems to think a win is a win. Mull this over while you wait, savoring the “nightmare scenario” we may very well find ourselves in three or four hours from now. One or both of us will be liveblogging; as always, comments are welcome. If you’re imbibing and need a drinking game to play, Mark Halperin has made things easy for you. Or, if that’s too complicated, just tune into MSNBC and take a swig every time Rachel Maddow smirks. You’ll be unconscious by nine.

Update: Drudge says Obama wins easily in NC per the early exits. That makes sense demographically. So all she can do at this point is hold serve, i.e. no big game-changer tonight.

Is it wrong to enjoy this red on red civil war?

Sorry about your son. A collapsed lung is common in tall people with Marfan Syndrome (some think Lincoln may have had it). If it’s very collapsed, a chest tube will usually get it back up. Best wishes.

Have about 5 years to retirement. Gotta go somewhere. Would like to move to the US.

JiangxiDad on May 6, 2008 at 10:39 PM

Time is getting close when you could be able to select a prime sliver and have it waiting for you.

SA huh? Absolutely going to check it out. Have been to Dallas, but that’s all of Texas I’ve seen. Time to do something about that.

Oh, it’s better than it used to be, at least in some places And I heard the other day that unemployment is down! Sheriff Joe is targeting the city I lived in, since the chief of police doesn’t want to do anything. Not there anymore so I don’t know where the rank-and-file stand, I remember the police in Phoenix looked the other way till one of their own was murdered by an illegal. I think it’s changing for the better, just not as quickly as I’d have liked.

The housing market is coming back here in Texas but it has a long way to go in AZ, you really can find some bargains there. Flagstaff is beautiful but somewhat more liberal than the rest of the state. Tucson is more liberal than Phoenix. But there’s been a big influx of liberals all over the state in the last 20 years.

Texas has the most polite people I’ve ever met - until they get behind the wheel.

SouthernGent on May 6, 2008 at 10:55 PM

Obama can’t win by losing… and he’s got some losses in his future.

Vizzini on May 6, 2008 at 10:56 PM

Very polite people in TX, we have guns!

atxcowgirl on May 6, 2008 at 10:58 PM

A very disappointing night - Barry Hussein has the momentum again - Clinton’s win not big enough in Indiana to keep the show on the road.

Hillary should wait until West Virginia and Kentucky give her landslides next week.

The least she can do is keep that a-hole Deano sweating a few more weeks.

She’s definately hired a speech coach. Her usual overly loud screech has all but vanished in the past week or so.

I’m sure it’s heard behind closed doors though.

JiangxiDad on May 6, 2008 at 10:50 PM

If you absolutely have to live in the city, yes, SA. Is your heart in the city? Does the country life hold no allure for you?

Ed is probably right that Obama is the weaker candidate in the general - the only states he brings for the Dems are small states like Iowa and possibly South Carolina, while opening up to the GOP the big players from Michigan to PA.

Hillary has the power in the states that matter: the rustbelt and Florida.

Compare their standings on this (admittedly Democratic biased) site:

Yeah, guns are popular in AZ too, one of the reasons I stayed so long. But people are still more friendly here.

Better legislators here too, overall. I definitely have a better Congressman than I had in AZ.

sloopy on May 6, 2008 at 11:05 PM

Ed - thanks for the Live Blog.

SC? No way…SC is deep, blood red. Don’t let the democrat primary fool ya! The only states Obama has won that might matter in the general election are Wisconsin and Missouri!

SouthernGent on May 6, 2008 at 11:07 PM

I look forward..
