The early exit polls are in: It’s the economy, stupid, not health care or Iraq. Detailed demographic data should start trickling in around 6 p.m. Trust it if you dare.
I still think she needs a blowout in Indiana to offset one in North Carolina but the Nation seems to think a win is a win. Mull this over while you wait, savoring the “nightmare scenario” we may very well find ourselves in three or four hours from now. One or both of us will be liveblogging; as always, comments are welcome. If you’re imbibing and need a drinking game to play, Mark Halperin has made things easy for you. Or, if that’s too complicated, just tune into MSNBC and take a swig every time Rachel Maddow smirks. You’ll be unconscious by nine.
Update: Drudge says Obama wins easily in NC per the early exits. That makes sense demographically. So all she can do at this point is hold serve, i.e. no big game-changer tonight.

Safe to say most of the NC votes tallies are early votes that were cast before today. Obama has hit his ceiling since most of the urban areas are also reporting today’s results along with early votes….now the quesion is the margin.

Green Mile and Seven Mile need to throw down. Two largest liberal tribes right there. I want to these two tear up the Denver Convention. Maybe a dis off or whatever these idiots call it.

You just lost another big go round,
The upstart pretender to your throne again put you down,
Oh how a fool and her lust for power soon go separate ways,
For you can only find so many fools lyin in a daze,
Ha ha woman what you gonna do,
You destroyed all of what little virtue that the Lord gave you,
Its so good that youre not getting any gain,
So you better get yourself on board your very last smear train.

I am ever curious why the MSM looks at two nearly identical Dem liberal candidates, and sees Obambi get 93% of the black vote, and never raises the point that a large majority of black voters might be voting by skin color.
Is it simply too obvious to bother, or is the MSM somehow … ahem … reluctant to address the issue?

For the same reason they won’t speculate on why many older whites and poor whites are voting for Hillary overwhelmingly…
Could it be the race code that has been thrown into the mix? Or has it always been there and most have juts been to blind to see that we haven’t really moved so far…

This is all proof that the bar for electrifying speechifying has gone way the hell down in the last half century.
Save for a brief one-man interlude sometime around the 80’s.

Mark V. on May 6, 2008 at 9:36 PM
Obama seems to have found his stride again. But somehow, now that he’s been reduced from Messiah to your normal Chicago politician, his speeches are starting to seem stylized, tedious, even trite. How much more tedious, how unconvincing will he become, saying the same stuff over and over again in the months from now to November, after the recent revelations of his opportunism?
I don’t think the shelf life on this stuff is all that long.

Yeah, I wondered about that too. A US flag??
“Yes we can” - always reminds me of the “si se puede” chants heard all over the country two years ago.

You heard those chants on what day? May 1st…Communist May Day.
Whether it be “Yes we can” or “si se puede”, the common goal is Communist Revolution, USA.
I ain’t kidding. There is a reason they want the “si se puede” chanters to be voting citizens, and the “Yes we can” is a pandering connection with them.

OK, fair enough. Show me a bloc of white voters — any election, any party, any cross-section — voting 92 - 6, as in Bill Amos’s chart above.
Which election are you talking about?
Jaibones on May 6, 2008 at 9:53 PM
Holy cow! No votes from Gary have been counted, and Hillary is only ahead by about 33,000.
She might lose Indiana outright.

SouthernGent on May 6, 2008 at 9:59 PM
You’re kidding, right? He played every poor old pathetic thing that rolled off his trusty teleprompters for all it was worth. Everything’s always been just so damned unfair, and hard hasn’t it? And then at the end he whipped them into a frenzy telling them that he and they were gonna make it all better.
He doesn’t ever say exactly how (other than extorting big oil and running away from the Middle East as fast as he possibly can), but the truth? With your and my hard-earned money.
No. I have no enthusiasm for his marxist desires for this country. I’m not rich, but I’m doing my best to live the American Dream. Which is pretty hard to do when so many people have their hands in my pocket. And he’s going to demand I pay even more.
People like me and you are going to bear the brunt of his ‘change’. We’re not only going to shoulder our own load, we’re going to be forced to shoulder the load of the hopelessly stupid, the lazy, the undisciplined, and the terminally unwise.
He’s going to ruin prosperity in this country.
Yay.

Texans have a unique pride. Austin has been taken over by the hippies but the countryside, and there’s plenty of it, is all about independence. Independence for individuals most of all. We still have a pretty respectable state government and tax cuts that mean our economy is still fine. Even the mortgage crisis had minimal effects here. There’s lots of room - I hope I can talk you into claiming your sliver!

techno_barbarian on May 6, 2008 at 10:08 PM
I wonder what this student is talking about? South Bend “demographic” seems to mean percentage of black voters, and I guess South Bend is 36% black, while the whole state is only 9% black.
As for “latte sipping elites”, let’s profile Notre Dame a little closer. It’s 85% Catholic, and one of the hardest schools to get into in the midwest. The legacy types are no latte drinkers; they’re shot and beer Irish soccer and football players. Every college has a bunch of mush-brained liberal kids, but ND is much more restrained in that area.

If you get a choice, I recommend San Antonio. It’s a marvelously fun, family-friendly and historic town. Even in heavy traffic, motorists tend to leave a car’s distance between each other. Its people are warm; its location is close to Hill Country recreation, rivers and lakes. And it’s politics, labarynthine as any city politics, are not nutsy-lefty. Plus, you would be a short drive away from the RB Household, and your official Welcoming Committee/Tour Guides, hee.

It pissed me off the whole time he shamelessly used our Military to evoke strong emotional sympathy to spout his insane ‘anti-war’ propaganda.
Because he thinks the war should’ve never been fought, he thinks the best idea is to just leave right at the moment we’re in the strongest position yet? Unwise in the extreme.
We can not run away from this fight. We have to finish it. Hell, we’ve never been close to finishing it. Talk about squandering an historic moment in time!
That’s not the kind of change this American is in favor of.

AZ had a huge illegal alien problem when I left. The city I lived in is still having problems. But you can get a great deal on a house there because sub-prime loaners especially targeted illegals.
I’m in a smaller town in Texas now and it’s doing a great job of ignoring the problem - just like AZ did for so long - and giving excuses why local law enforcement can’t help with the problem “that really isn’t that bad anyway.” I haven’t heard what criteria would make it a problem here. But I guarantee that by ignoring it, there will be one.
Was it Houston with the Obama office that had a poster of Che? Si se puede indeed.

Thought the AZ governor had taken major steps to remedy that situation, with increased border protection and tough employer verification. On the TV news from Phoenix, there was a story about a local elementary school on the verge of shutting down because the illegals had left.
Sorry to hear I’m mistaken. Really liked Tucson and Flagstaff. Took my two kids 4 miles down into Grand Canyon. Was magnificent. btw, I’m in NY.
