While tragic that he felt so helpless and hopeless with no friends with whom to confide, I fail to have much sympathy for a man who takes his own life.

Was this during 1994 when Green Arrow was running around with idiots opposing the 2nd Amendment? I wonder if Kelley Puckett had anything to do with that story?

I did some digging and it was, indeed, ‘94 when that story was published. Kevin Dooley was the writer.

Newsflash: Comics have had left-wing content for decades. I can remember dropping all DC comic books at one point because they had Green Arrow running around with a bunch of anarchists blowing up gun manufacturers and preaching against the evils of the Second Amendment.

You’d like Frank Miller’s work then. His Batman is more about American independence and the government keeping its hands out of private citizens’ business. Batman does utilize the radical (far left-leaning) Green Arrow, but to his own purposes. He knows he can count on Oliver Queen to join in his fight against Superman (whom Batman sees as a stooge of the US government, doing its will and whim without any consideration of what is “right” or “wrong” and kowtowing to their desires after breaking up the JLA), even if Oliver is doing it strictly as a William Ayers type character. Batman will not bow before the government, and will uphold the laws of the land when the government proves it is unable (or unwilling). Yes, he’s a vigilante, but he is enforcing the laws of the land that a broken bureaucracy cannot or will not enforce. In the end, Miller’s Batman is about self dependence and keeping order in civilization by being responsible as an individual.

Gotta see this one! These new Batman movies are the way Batman is suppossed to be. A vigilante dressed in black who creeps around in the shadows beatin’ the crap outta bad guys … not that flamin’ flambouyant flimflam of the late 80s/early 90s.

This is the Batman of Frank Miller. Hence, the name “The Dark Knight”. After Miller’s masterpiece (yes, I called a graphic novel a masterpiece) “The Dark Knight Returns”, Miller wrote “Year One”, on which the first Dark Knight/Batman with Christian Bale was loosely based. Miller’s Batman was more interior dialogue, and saving a city of his upbringing from utter corruption and depravity. It also focused on the rise of James Gordan and how his relationship with Batman grew out of a corrupt police department (along with insights into his (extra)marital affairs). Most of that groundwork had never been done, there was the back story to how Batman came to be, but never any in depth details on the emergence of Batman as a vigilante and crusader that gained the trust of the police force.

Miller’s work is excellent, btw. And, he is a staunch conservative (just as an aside). He has something currently in the works about Batman vs. Islamic terrorists if I’m not mistaken.

I’m waiting for a movie with a good Mr. Freeze.

I did want to see Cillian Murphy come back as Scarecrow though. This will rock regardless.

Iron Man, Hulk, Batman, Indiana Jones, Prince Caspian, Hellboy, Wall-E

This may be the best movie summer in quite a while.

I didn’t find the revelation that Stark Industries had made the terrorists weapons to be too out of line with the revelation from Armor Wars that a lot of supervillains were using powered armor based on Stark’s technology. As left wing propaganda goes it wasn’t that bad.

My one complaint with Iron Man was that I didn’t care for Jeff Bridges’ characterization of Obadiah Stane but that’s just because he didn’t match my preconcieved notions of what Stane should be like. Bridges does a decent job and if you’re not familiar with Stane you shouldn’t have any problems with how he plays the character.

As for the next Batman movie, the trailers look good but I’m withholding judgement until I see some actual fight scenes. My big problem with Batman Begins was that the fight scenes all looked like crap.

And it turns out he didnt sell them at all. But of course, he has no moment of epiphany about that.

Really? I thought it was pretty clear that he knew someone was double dealing within his own organization.

We all walked out a couple hours later with what little hair we have blown straight back! The only movie I intend to see in the theatre this year.

And our dark heroes all seem to be Men made of sterner stuff than anyone here in the US of A, except the Real Men in Uniform we all know and love. God Bless the US Military, and the Superheroes who, in reality, salute them.

This is where I feel the need to make a point that darkness, depending on what your idea of it happens to be, is exactly what’s alienated me from a lot of the output from DC Comics today. Are you by any chance familiar with that screed they published called “Identity Crisis” in 2004, where the Justice League was made out to look bad, and where Elongated Man’s wife, and the Silver Age Atom’s former wife, were both spat upon? And, most importantly of all, are you by any chance familiar with what their main editor, Dan DiDio, told the left-wing Newsarama? Take a look at the following:

NRAMA: Where did the desire for a shift in tonality within the DCU come from?

DD: A lot of this actually came following September 11th. After everything that occurred in New York City, I was coming to work at DC, and going through the Port Authority. At that time, you would walk into the Port Authority, and you would have National Guardsmen standing there with machine guns. He’s standing there holding his machine gun, and is supposed to be making me feel better and more protected, but somehow, that gave me a greater sense of dread – it put me more on edge.

Yep, that’s what he told them 3 years ago, just one of a few clues what’s gone wrong with them since then. Trust me, you’ll thank me I tipped you to that line of DiDio’s someday.

As for the movie, I may be interested in this latest film of the Dark Knight, but that doesn’t mean I think that darkness should be the MO of all heroes in entertainment, or that “bright” ones don’t work as well. Nor do I read Marvel’s output solely for darkness and can’t understand why anyone would think that either. Believe me, I don’t think darkness is healthy for a conservative, and as one myself these days, that’s why I try to be careful what I wish for.
