This “newspaper” began a VERY disturbing trend. Refusing to use sport’s teams nicknames in linescores. Why? Because of some of the Indian nicknames such as the Redskins in football, the Braves(owned by Red Ted Turner!), the Indians,
the Black Hawks in ice hockey. They found those names so awful, they stopped using the names. PLEASE! Most Indians do not care what a sports team name is. Yes, the Indian PC police does, but not the average Indian. Hence, regular people who try to read a newspaper for news, and sports news have to be treated to Keith Olbermann type garbage. And, they wonder why no one with a brain cell wants to read the Dinosaur, Drive-By, Mainstream Media?

The only time I use newspapers is when I run out of toilet paper. It’s cheaper but I have to soften them with water. They’re kinda rough on the skin in their raw condition.

The ink from a Nick Coleman column rubbing off in such a sensitive area just can’t be good for your health.

Either the Strib lied about Blackstone’s greed just a few months ago, or they don’t care any more about greed as long as they benefit from it.

Why one or the other? Why not both?

Classifieds, as traditionally done by newspapers, are dying a justified death. I can go to Craigslist and have pictures and more text, or I can spend $100+ to put 3 lines of text in the Strib. Which do you think I’ll do?

Their statement is deliberately misleading. Blackstone is not just “a private equity firm,” it has several businesses. In particular, it is one of the two leading advisors to debtors in corporate bankruptcies. The private equity side of the firm does not provide advisory services at all.

By the way, having worked in restructuring before, I can tell you with a pretty high degree of certainty that the hiring of Blackstone means something is going to happen. Private equity owners like Avista don’t hire restructuring advisors until they’ve run out of options completely, and as the economy and the newspaper industry continue to limp, a restructuring will only become more likely. My guess is that they will try to link the debt restructuring and the contract negotiation, and threaten bankruptcy to both the creditors and the unions in order to get what they want.

The Red Star and Tribune is in trouble? How can this possibly be? All editorials are run by the DFL for approval? Check! All news articles must make Republicans look bad? Check! At least two politically correct features in each edition? Check! Have we covered the Gay/Lesbian/Transgendered agenda? Check! Bush Lied, People Died? Check! An article about Saving the Planet? Check! It must be the readers…can we become a PBS or MPR like entity?
