Open thread: O’Reilly vs. Hillary; Update: Chummy video added! Update: Shock poll — Hillary 44, Obama 42 in NC

posted at 7:47 pm on April 30, 2008 by Allahpundit

8 p.m. ET on Fox, of course. Weak fare for an open thread, admittedly, but the freak show aspect of two egos large enough to have their own gravitational fields colliding makes it must-watch. We’re bound to have some sort of video later, too, so might as well toss up a post now. And the Hammer’s on tonight, so stay tuned in if you want to watch Bill tut-tut her over those Miley Cyrus peekaboo photos circulating on the Net, all of which will be duly displayed onscreen while the two banter.

How is FNC promoting the segment, you ask? Why, with body language analysis, of course. Poor Martha.

Update: No killer soundbites, although Her Majesty did defend her socialist plan to take oil companies’ windfall profits just because they’re way too much in her considered judgment. The most striking thing about the interview, though, was how well she and O’R got along. God help me, she almost seemed charming at times. This may be her first Factor interview but doubtless it won’t be her last. Second look at — gasp — Hillary?

Link: sevenload.com

Update: Good lord — Hillary leads in North Carolina? She was down 15 points in the same poll two weeks ago.

Why, with body language analysis, of course.

O’Reilly and Hillary writhing around on stage? That’s an image!

lorien1973 on April 30, 2008 at 7:51 PM

Hillary is a chameleon, and a shameless one at that. She’ll just reinvent herself again…for fifteen minutes.

RBMN on April 30, 2008 at 7:53 PM

I wish I wasn’t at work- otherwise one could make a decent drinking game out of this.

Hillary says “Now, Bill / well, Bill” in a condescending tone- one drink

Bill interrupts Hillary mid-sentence- one drink

Hillary coughs or laughs inappropriately after being asked a question- two drinks

Bill pimps his book and/or Fox News during the interview- two drinks

Hollowpoint on April 30, 2008 at 7:55 PM

outstanding 30 min between Shepard Smith and O’Reilly; best interview on TV I’ve seen in many years.

It was also a perfect teaser for O’Reilly’s interview with Hillary.

It’s Hillary’s chance to appeal to the political center, and McCain had better be taking notes.

with body language analysis

Which doesn’t always work. And the fact that Hillary sounds like she 1. has a cold or 2. is losing her voice. And if anyone talks with a nasty scratchy thoat, you lift your chin to talk. Look it up… it’s true.

OMG did I just defend Hillary.. :O

Facts, schmacts – he makes her seem human, and she makes him seem reasonable – the two of them are great together. Hillary should have become a regular years ago.

We all better hope that Barack stops the bleeding soon, because she’s looking formidable.

CK MacLeod on April 30, 2008 at 8:12 PM

So far, so good. Hillary is rocking & rolling along. Very professional.

I wouldn’t trust her with a turd on a string, but she is doing very well. Certainly one-ups Obama’s Wallace interview.

LimeyGeek on April 30, 2008 at 8:38 PM

The thing to remember here is that by not going hard on her, O’Reilly enrages the netroots even more both in their anger against Fox News and Hillary, who in their eyes is by now ideologically somewhere between Joe Libermann and Dick Cheney. A hardball session by Bill O against Hill C would have actually caused her stock to rise a little in the eyes of the far left in the Democratic Party.

Oh, I’m quite certain that she’s being truthful when she says she wants to raise taxes on domestic oil producers.

I’m still waiting for an explanation from one of the Dems how refusing to let us drill in ANWR or offshore, raising taxes on energy producers when prices are high, taxing carbon emissions, blocking the construction of new refineries and nuclear plants have the effect of lowering gas prices.

And no- “It’s Bush’s fault!” isn’t an explanation.

I have always liked Hillary Rodham Clinton.
And her personal demons notwithstanding, she is still, well, standing.
She is Margaret Thatcher in a liberal pant-suit.
But a 60s-Redux liberal political and economic agenda is anathema to American interests. Fool me twice, shame on you. We cannot allow liberal Democrat control of Congress to extend to the WH. Her day may be coming, but not this year I hope.

A shameless liar to be sure. But you gotta give her credit for going into a interview where she knew she wasn’t going to be tossed any softball questions. Last time Obama was thrown a couple of fastball questions he walked away from the podium.

I wish O’Reilly pressed her on the energy votes she has cast as a Senator.

Hog Wild on April 30, 2008 at 10:10 PM

I think that Hillary going on O’Reilly is awesome. I don’t care if it was a softball interview, I just want to see the lefties squirm in hatred.

You CAN’T say that O’Reilly gave her a “softball” interview: he was as OBNOXIOUS with her as he is with ANYONE, and SHE handled it well……she showed a damn good backhand……maybe years with the “other” Bill equipped her with that…..

As much as I hate to admit it – my respect for her rose during the interview……

grtflmark on April 30, 2008 at 10:25 PM

A twofer. She upstaged Obama on the courage issue, rolled Bill O’ like a roll of quarters, peed down the leg of the Soros clan, and shows a two point lead in NC. Guess that’s more than a twofer. I thought she did well in the interview, although BO let her off the hook on energy.

Another reason to hope for her as the nominee. If McCain loses it’ll suck, but it won’t be the end of the world. She won’t be great for the country, but she won’t be anywhere near as bad as Obama.

amerpundit on April 30, 2008 at 10:53 PM

My worry is not that she’d be weak on defense, but rather that what she did to our country concurrently via her socialist designs would render that defense moot.

ggoofer on April 30, 2008 at 10:58 PM

Living in NC, I would be interested to see the regional breakdown from within NC they got those numbers. I did see in the crosstabs that Mrs. Clinton is running away with the “unaffiliated” voters who can vote in either the Democrat or Republican primary. If Operation Chaos is legitimate, it’ll definitely show in NC. On election night, the areas to watch are Buncombe County (Asheville…uber liberal, but I think Obama is just too much for even our mountain friends. If she can keep it close there it’s hers to take), the Charlotte area counties, and the southeastern counties of Brunswick, New Hanover, and Onslow (Jacksonville…huge military presence there), and Wake County (Raleigh…lots of transplanted Yankees). I wouldn’t be totally stunned if she won, but I think he’ll win by single digits.
