Comedy gold: Eighth-grader lectures Conyers’s wife on manners

posted at 6:27 pm on April 30, 2008 by Allahpundit

I didn’t laugh out loud until she said, “You have to know your boundaries,” but it’s the line at the end that really brings down the house. Note to young Kierra, righteous in her irritation: Her grasp of boundaries isn’t Mrs. Conyers’s strong suit.

She’s married to the glaring gentleman that is John Conyers? Get the frick out!

amerpundit on April 30, 2008 at 6:33 PM

Arguing with a kid is about as low as you can go.

Good God.

BobH on April 30, 2008 at 6:33 PM

Madame Conyers is an arrogant POS.
Like Her Husband. Nothing new here.
After all they are ENTITLED!

old trooper on April 30, 2008 at 6:35 PM

From the mouths of babes. Even the kids see her for what she is.

Les in NC on April 30, 2008 at 6:37 PM

Haha, give the 8th grader her position!

Vigilante on April 30, 2008 at 6:38 PM

My God that’s fantastic.

ChipDWood on April 30, 2008 at 6:38 PM

OMG.. what did i just watch?

Chakra Hammer on April 30, 2008 at 6:38 PM

Oh no she Di-Int!

badpenguin on April 30, 2008 at 6:38 PM

That little girl is good.

Roebuck on April 30, 2008 at 6:40 PM

Wait. That woman is an adult, serving on a city council? My five-year-old has better manners than that, and I call my daughter an uncivilized heathen.

What trash.

the goddess anna on April 30, 2008 at 6:41 PM

You could not make this stuff up. That is truly astounding. She gets called out appropriately on her childish behavior by children. That is one of the most remarkable pieces of video I have ever seen. She should crawl in a hole and never come out. The woman is a complete idiot.

neuromancer on April 30, 2008 at 6:41 PM

BTW- It’s one thing to “argue with a kid”, which is pathetic enough- but to get pwned in said argument by a kid is rather different.

Bright young child = 1
Abusive lawmaker = 0

ChipDWood on April 30, 2008 at 6:41 PM

The citizens of Detroit would be well served by having that young lady replace Ms. Conyers on the City Council.

GreenBlade on April 30, 2008 at 6:42 PM

Heh…the young lady took Ms. Conyers to school.

flipflop on April 30, 2008 at 6:43 PM

They’d be just as well, if not better, to put little Kierra on the Council.

BobH on April 30, 2008 at 6:43 PM

“You are an ADULT, you have that choice” — priceless.

whtabtbill on April 30, 2008 at 6:43 PM

maybe there is hope for Detroit after all, in about 15 years or so!

Indeed, good point.

Chakra Hammer on April 30, 2008 at 6:45 PM

Sweet.

Maquis on April 30, 2008 at 6:45 PM

This last Saturday my 11 yr old was at a “talent show” at a high school with another friend. (I wasn’t there) They were sitting in the back and he tells me they were whispering, which they shouldn’t have been, but the woman in front of them turns around and says “If you whisper during my daughter’ performance, I will kill you.”

My son was just shocked that an adult would say such a thing. He says to her, “How old are you? Can you not ask us politely to be quiet?”

I think there are just too many people out there that have never learned any manners at all.

Rightwingsparkle on April 30, 2008 at 6:48 PM

after seeing this video and reading the other article, conclusion:
detroit in a whole world of hurt.

jimmer on April 30, 2008 at 6:50 PM

That young lady has a future. Mrs. Conyers doesn’t. Only in Detroit. Well, maybe only in San Fran, too. Well, maybe Chicago, too.

thatcher on April 30, 2008 at 6:50 PM

It’s like watching ferrets with a soccer ball.
Except ferrets are smarter.

TexasJew on April 30, 2008 at 6:50 PM

Definitely give the kid the seat! She bit.. slapped the spoiled brat Conyers into the next county and Conyers didn’t even get it.

Maybe kids like this one could strainghten this miserable city and state out.

But the kids way too cool to stay in that cesspool of a city. You go Girl. How bout sending a letter to Jerimiah Wright girl?

dhunter on April 30, 2008 at 6:50 PM

I absolutely love “And you’ve never said something like that in school…? So we’re all human, right?”

By the manifest evidence of this tape alone, she shouldn’t be a greeter at Wal-Mart, let alone a city council member.

emailnuevo on April 30, 2008 at 6:51 PM

I just looked up “combative” in the dictionary. And sure enough…

RushBaby on April 30, 2008 at 6:51 PM

Cool. She can be on the City Council at 18, a state senator at 21, Senator at 29, and presidential nominee at 31, but unlike Barry she wouldn’t sit through the rude sermons of a Rev. Wright, or sit on boards with out of control terrorists.

Buy Danish on April 30, 2008 at 6:54 PM

~speechless~

Pam on April 30, 2008 at 6:55 PM

Who would have thought that Shrek and Cruella DeVille would both be elected to the same council.

GreenBlade on April 30, 2008 at 6:57 PM

This 8th grader would probably do a better job than anyone in that council. Loved her combativeness against Conyers.

jencab on April 30, 2008 at 6:58 PM

I’ll bet Ms. Conyers sends some kids to beat that 8th grade girl down.

MikeZero on April 30, 2008 at 6:59 PM

How much do you want to bet young Kierra doesn’t go to a church pastored by a Jeremiah Wright style pastor?

Lily on April 30, 2008 at 7:00 PM

Whooa! That young lady Rocked! Kierra put Missus Conyers in her place, and slammed shut! that door.

localmalcontent on April 30, 2008 at 7:02 PM

That kid argues like a low-class tough.
But the eighth-grader, on the other hand, was spot on.

Tzetzes on April 30, 2008 at 7:06 PM

I’m wondering why Ms. Conyers agreed to this discussion, unless she was planning to apologize and make it a nice teaching point.

Theworldisnotenough on April 30, 2008 at 7:06 PM

God bless that little girl! Maybe Detroit has some hope.

RobCon on April 30, 2008 at 7:08 PM

It’s not just that she argued with the kid…it’s that she lost.

Blaise on April 30, 2008 at 7:11 PM

KIERRA IS ONE AMAZING LITTLE GIRL!
.
Perhaps if the city council and mayor would step down and let Kierra and other such children run the city, it wouldn’t be going down the drain so fast. That place is a mess. I was born in Detroit, but glad me and my tax dollars are far away.

USBB on April 30, 2008 at 7:11 PM

Unbelievably awesome. I wish I could send that little girl some money, or a scholarship or something.

macblanegirl on April 30, 2008 at 7:12 PM

Ms Conyers is third in line to be Mayor of Detroit?
Still?

Compared to what you have now?

When are you going to get a clue?

rockhauler on April 30, 2008 at 7:13 PM

That woman needs a lesson in treating OTHER people with respect before she worries about herself being treated in a respectful matter.

What a loser!

crosspatch on April 30, 2008 at 7:17 PM

I like how Mrs. C tries to come off all sage and when she gets called on it she gets all patronizing. Even the kids start laughing at her.
Too bad her husband could not get lectured as well.

RobCon on April 30, 2008 at 7:19 PM

Something tells me that that young girl’s house will have 27 feet of unmoved snow in front of it next winter.

Someone will just forget to shovel it.

(tongue in cheek; I think)

SteveMG on April 30, 2008 at 7:24 PM

I’ve been reading Detroit Free Press all day and was wondering what everyone was talking about. Good on, Kierra. Conyers tried to put on the “say something smart” tone that adults in the wrong usually have. What a loser.

Dubn8tr on April 30, 2008 at 7:26 PM

That was so full of win…

Best. Debate. Ever.

spmat on April 30, 2008 at 7:26 PM

Well, and it is on TV, too!

Class shows, babycakes…and Ms. Conyers just got owned by Kierra, and knows it, given that parting shot.

Harry Schell on April 30, 2008 at 7:27 PM

She’s truly ghetto.

Marc01 on April 30, 2008 at 7:39 PM

Kierra gives me hope that someday we’ll be outgrow our present ‘tolerance’ for the buffoonery of folks like Ms. Conyers.

petefrt on April 30, 2008 at 7:42 PM

GO KIERRA!!!

More of an adult than Mrs. Conyers.

baldilocks on April 30, 2008 at 7:44 PM

I was born in Detroit.
Grew up on the other side of 8 mile 4 blocks from the border.
Live about 4 miles now from the border.
This started shortly after 1967.

Except for a brief breath of fresh air that was called Dennis Archer, this has been going on since the Colman Young years.

That little lady said something that most of us in the suburbs have been wanting to say for to her and the rest of the council for along time. Act like adults.

Number one in depression, murder and high crime, 2nd in Obesity, 1st or 2nd in foreclosures, pantheon of poverty, 1st in burnt out shells of homes. A Mayor that is totally power driven. It’s still a war zone except for the areas around the new stadiums.

Totally forgotten for what it needs and totally deserving as to what the rest of you think about it.

And as someone who was born there. Very depressing and sad.

Scoreboard44 on April 30, 2008 at 7:45 PM

BOOM!

Get that little girl a scholarship now!

WisCon on April 30, 2008 at 7:46 PM

Scoreboard44 on April 30, 2008 at 7:47 PM

Fire Conyers, hire Kierra.

profitsbeard on April 30, 2008 at 7:50 PM

I hope when Kierra is an adult she runs for office in Detroit…they need good people with good sense and decomrum! I love what she did and said…

CCRWM on April 30, 2008 at 7:50 PM

That was a great smackdown of someone who has no respect for the rules of order.

Get that little girl a scholarship now!

My thoughts, exactly.

The Ugly American on April 30, 2008 at 7:54 PM

Man….I gonna have to watch that again, it’s just too good.

The Ugly American on April 30, 2008 at 7:55 PM

um…meant to write decorum…

CCRWM on April 30, 2008 at 7:56 PM

The sad thing is that, from the look on Conyers’ face, she truly does not understand what the problem is.

baldilocks on April 30, 2008 at 8:04 PM

Conyers is just a part of the freak show we have going on here in motown. Conyers is the wife of John Conyers of fake impeachment trial fame and third in line for the mayors office. “Shrek” is next in line. Here’s the mayor and his former chief of staff currently under indictment.

Sorry AP not attempting to hijack, but if you could cover this a bit, all of Motown wouuld be grateful.

Zorro on April 30, 2008 at 8:12 PM

Conyer’s is the only one on Detroit City council that is still defending Mayor Kwame’s lies and corruption, that seem 3rd worldish in their disregard for the rights and concerns of the people. Yet that young lady gives me hope for Detroit, a once great city.

Tobias2012 on April 30, 2008 at 8:12 PM

Oh.My.Lord. Why did that brainless, corrupt coke-whore put herself in a position where a bunch of children could take her out to the woodshed and beat her senseless like that?

She redefines clueless.

Jaibones on April 30, 2008 at 8:13 PM

Dissed and dismissed! ZING. I’m glad there were cameras in that room or there would have been an Amber Report for that little girl.

(Hey, Mrs. Conyers. What’s that clunking around in your trunk?)

Mormon Doc on April 30, 2008 at 8:16 PM

Some people should never be given any kind of power because the just dont know their limits

William Amos on April 30, 2008 at 8:21 PM

People of Detroit would be much better served with Kierra on the city council.

Topsecretk9 on April 30, 2008 at 8:28 PM

A black friend and close associate of mine in the Air Force who grew up in Chicago’s deepest ghetto and managed to escape by way of the military and sheer self-determination had a name for the type of person that Conyers seems to be. This man is now a Lt Col in the Air Force and still uses this term when he tells me stories of his youth in the ghetto…that term being “ig-n!g” (just as it sounds; not an abbreviation) to describe those that refuse to wise up and join society as a civilized human being. Sounds like the kids have far exceeded Conyers concept of civilized society. Good on them.

Big John on April 30, 2008 at 8:35 PM

Put Mrs. Conyers in a burkha and send her to a misogynist Islamic nation which employs draconian laws upon women and turn her loose.

I am certain that she would be happier than a pig in mud!

The camera stopped taping right before Monica Conyers bobbed her head and told her to “talk to the hand”.

Bill Brasky on April 30, 2008 at 8:47 PM

Yeah, that young lady gives hope, hehe. Conyers is a disgusting disgrace, good grief.

Midas on April 30, 2008 at 8:52 PM

Please let me clarify that I am in no way a racist. This man I quoted has been a close personal friend of mine for more than twenty years and the words quoted were his own. My point in using his term was to show that not all black Americans are haters of their country and can see for themselves that some people just don’t get it. My apologies if I may have offended anyone with my comment.

Big John on April 30, 2008 at 8:56 PM

I’d LOVE to meet Kierra’s parents. These are the kind of people that should be raising kids, not the weak, softie, “but I can’t SPANK my children?!” whimps. This girl was raised right.

malan89 on April 30, 2008 at 9:03 PM

Uber Pwnage of one of the most embarrassingly stupid, mean and ignorant elected officials in Christendom. This woman would be a superstar in the California legislature.

when you get your head handed to you by a grade-school kid about basic fundamental manners, you need to rethink your reason for being.

Testify, l’il sister!

Mike D. on April 30, 2008 at 9:05 PM

Thank God. When I saw the original clip I felt embarrassed watching the City Council(?) acting like children. But if the actual children are smarter than them then the next generation can sort it out just fine.

Put in her place by an *th grader. I would’ve loved to have seen the look on her face as she was b*tch-slapped. The whole thing was great; she got away with calling her a nut, got her down to her level, and won in a verbal cat-fight. That kid is going places.

Don Carne on April 30, 2008 at 9:26 PM

WOW – what a great clip to use for the non existent Detroit Office of Tourism!

aikidoka on April 30, 2008 at 10:07 PM

What else was surprising was how Ms. Conyers turned on an accent for the city counsel and promptly turned it off in front of the kids (and TV cameras).
